    Stalls

I'm in the same boat right now. Just a little over 5 months out and I am completely stuck. I've only lost 3 pounds in the past 5 weeks. I know I'm doing everything right so it is really frustrating. I'm not supposed to see my surgeon until 9 mos out, but I think I may go see him at 6 months if things don't change. I'm not going to hit my 6 month goal he set at this rate, so I think it is justified. It is really depressing me. I'm at a weight that I have not been able to get past for the past 30 years. I'm going to be really disappointed if this surgery was for nothing and I'm still where I always have been able to get on my own.
  2. I had a similar pain for the first two weeks post surgery I had back pain if I stood too long. It was under my shoulder blade and I could not stand comfortably. I kept fidgeting trying to get the feeling to stop. Then i read somewhere about a nerve in the area of the chest near the band site that can get irritated after surgery. It was in a post about "things I wish I knew pre-surgery. " I have tried to find the post again, but I don't even remember the exact site I was visiting when I read this post. Maybe someone else can fill in what i do not know. And, then again, maybe I have the details wrong. But, I can tell you that my pain gradually lessened and went away. I hope yours does too.
  3. Best answered and addressed by your surgeon. You should have been provided......before surgery.....with a diet to follow and the timeline it unfolds when post-op. In that first month it is a matter of safety......your safety. Please confer with your surgeon and nutritionist and get the facts from them. I found that what I though was hunger in those early days was simply my nerves recovering in my healing stomach. Ten months out and I don't have hunger. Agree with everyone saying to consult your surgeon. I would BET that you will be eating soft seafood by week three or four max but the seeds are a while off, or at least they were for me. You won't want anything small and sharp getting wedged into your suture line. I wasn't allowed to eat ANYTHING like sunflower seeds, strawberries, blackberries, popcorn (hulls), chia seeds, etc. until about 3 or 4 months out. It's OK to be tired of being tired and hungry, but this will pass and it WILL be worth it.

    Fill Center COSTS

When I talked to them a few weeks ago it was around $350. Go to their website and ask the price. You don't have to sign up for a package deal, I was just going to go for one fill because my practice was making me wait too long. I didn't end up going to the FCU because my surgeon finally agreed to see me. Mimi
  5. I agree with both of the above. First...i would definitly talk to someone about this. It's alot harder going it alone. I have cut out carbs, cold turkey! It was the only way I could break my habit. It has worked amazingly well. Now, one day a week I allow them, since my cravings are gone. I have noticed 6 days a week I am not hardly hungry anymore but, the 1 day I wake up eating carbs in the morning I end up hungry all day. Cut the carbs but don't deprive yourself, there are plenty of delicious foods & drinks out there. Flavored waters are sweet and best of all guilt-free.
  6. I am 4 weeks post op and Water makes me gag. I make a plunger of lemon and ginger with some sweetener ( or not ) I find I can drink that hot or cold. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I think about surgery day. It's weird, but I worry more about surviving the surgery itself than the actual complications you can have from it....I feel guilty sometimes, like I could leave my kids motherless because I want to be thin again...but my nut told me I deserve this and death is rare...I have decided to believe her. I don't even want to worry about it. I push it to the back of my mind most days. Sometimes it comes creeping up though.... Also, I am worried about what I will be like coming out of anesthesia. Like, I guess we get either super chatty, tired, or cry...when I had my wisdom teeth out years ago I was told I cried...I hope I follow suit again lol....because I don't remember....I think it would be less embarassing to cry. I watch too many youtube videos lol....I cheated on my diet yesterday! I ate three Andes mint chocolates oh my and one today...I fed the rest to mykids so wouldnt be tempted...I have three kids so they each got like three a piece..... I was doing so well smh. I think it liquifies too and will be out of my system and not cause my liver to enlarge lol.....man I miss real food....but getting on the scale this morning and seeing 200.4 made me tear up. I am almost afraid to get on the scale tomorrow. Onederland is a huge milestone and to be under 200 is significant for me...I never imagined in a million years I would be over 200lbs.... or eat a whole box of mac and cheese in one sitting either but here I am lol....striving to be a better me
  8. You should be able to have meat by week 7 depending on your surgeons guidelines. Right now just focus on making these 6 weeks count. Focus on getting in your fluids and Protein, your Vitamins and if you do,exercise i don't think you will be all that concerned about when you can eat fish and shrimp. There will be plenty of time for that.
  9. You haven't mentioned if your doc gave you a fill at surgery. Being stuck is not pleasant but it shouldn't happen often. I agree that if you are still losing in 2 weeks and are not getting too hungry, it would be OK to reschedule your appt. Keep posting and let us know how you do. Mimi

    Help breaking a stall

The usual jibber-jabber - remember if you are losing weight, even if at a slower/reduced rate, that isn't a stall. And are you hitting your water intake with no problems? Still taking vitamins every day? When I hit my first road block it helped me to actually bump my calories up a bit. Obviously at 2 months out that isn't easy to do. I did little things like adding a spoonful of Greek yogurt to my protein drinks. Just getting it up by an extra 100-200 calories seemed to help. I did tweak my carbs a bit to try and get them a bit lower where I could. Don't get too bothered with it. It's frustrating but things will kick back into gear before you know it.
  11. Very normal. It took me until the third week to just start feeling normal. I also realized the not satisfied feeling had more to do with flavor and all the sweet or fake sweet of the early part of the diet.
  12. The big issue here is clotting, especially in the legs. I did travel 2.5 weeks post op, but I would be very cautious. This is how embolisms are formed.
  13. Does it feel closer to normal than 1 week out?
  14. I'm just over 2 months out and I've been stalled for almost 3 weeks. I think this is a pretty normal thing so don't let it get into your head. Up your protein and water, take your vitamins, and soon you should see the scale move. Like others have mentioned, my clothes are still getting looser and I can see my face slimming down. Also - get off that scale! Best thing I ever did...I weighed every day for a month and a half and the stress of a stalled scale was really affecting me.
  15. Hi everyone Been stalled for A little while and need some suggestions to move past it. I'm 2 months Post OP and can still only eat about 700cal , 70g protein daily, less than 50g carbs. I completely understand the dynamics and have embraced my stall, but it's time to move on. Please only helpful comments from people who have experienced it and what worked. Many thanks HW 250 SW 238 CW 210

    Possible Flipped Port/Frustrated

Wow and I thought I was having some issues! I don't really have much advise but I am having some similar frustrations. Was banded 7/25 - Had no issues until October when had some swelling and leakage from the port site. I was told it was nothing to worry about by the covering doctor (regular was on vacation). When I saw my regular doctor he told me I was infected and it had to come out. So back to the hospital, port comes out. I get felt with huge whole in my stomach so it can heal on its own. On 1/9 I have port put back in. I go back to the doctor on 1/25 and have a huge hematoma - again nothing to worry about. A couple of weeks later I am in extreme pain - I go see the doctor and he is convinced that it is headed to infection. So I get put on antibiotics daily which requires a daily trip to the hospital which is 1.5 hours away every day. We are headed to the second week of this fun!!!! On the plus side I have lost about 100 pounds, put I would like to move on with my life already. I think that is what has me so pissed. Anyway - no words of wisdom, other then the Band does work and is well worth all the efforts. Just wanted you to know you are not alone.

    surgery and work...

I agree with the others, you need to talk to your doctor before attempting to go back to work. Most doctors won't allow baths (being submerged in water) until the incisions are fully healed because of the infection risk. This can take a good 4-8 weeks. There is also usually lifting restrictions for the first 4-6 weeks post surgery. Between the two, there would be no way you could do your job without putting both your own health and others' lives at stake.
  18. Today is Day 12 - Post op... I've heard of stalls happening at weeks 3 & 4 but not week 2. I lost 14 pounds the first week after surgery and only 1 pound during week 2. The good news is that I haven't gained any. Has anybody had this happen before? The stall began when I started the full liquids (yogurt, pudding, soups). Related? The other thing that concerns me is that it's been 9 days since I've had a BM. Normal for post - op?

Reflux & Gerd reason for surgery

I never had a lap band. But I did have acid reflux quite often before surgery. I had high blood pressure and diabetes for several years before surgery along with several other problems. I had bariatric surgery (Roux-En-Y) 11 months ago. I was completely off my blood sugar medicine when I left the hospital two days after surgery. I was completely off my blood pressure medicine three weeks after surgery. I lost 20 pounds pre-op and 80 pounds post-op and now weigh 160 pounds.

    Iam I Doing Something Wrong

How many calories are you getting in? Your weight loss looks about like mine did at 2 months out (see the bottom of my signature). Stalls are pretty normal. If you are getting your fluids and protein and avoiding bad carbs plus exercising I am sure it's just a normal stall!
  22. Hello! I have never written a blog before but am anxious to get started. I have made the decision to have lapband surgery...maybe in September. My insurance requires a three month supervised diet before approval. I am in my last month and have lost 32 pounds. I am struggling right now...right on target with my past history! I saw a different doctor than the one who recommended this, in the practice, and he tried to talk me out of the surgery since I was doing so well! This really messed me up. I tried to explain to him that I have lost 20-40 lbs MANY times and then gain it back, plus 20! He actually said, "IF YOU WERE MY MOTHER, I'D TELL YOU NOT TO DO AND JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING"!! I don't know why this is bothering me so much, but I totally allowed it to sabotage me last night. I've done better today but am afraid I will start slipping backwards. Any suggestions out there! Also, I am really curious about life after lapband...both the immediate and the long term.

My eyes are bigger than my band!

Can you have protein shakes. You need some protein to take away the hunger. It sure helped fill me up. If I had to stay on clear liquids I think I would have been hungry too. I was allowed liquids for 2 weeks then mushies.
  24. For the past three years I have readied myself with holiday cheer and a half-ass attempt at mapping out the 'perfect' plan for losing weight in the new year. By March I would feel defeated and begin to fear the coming of Spring, which would then lead to Summer … my least favorite time of year (even as a teacher!) because of my weight. This year … right now … today … I am smiling! Yes, I am nearly 100 pounds over weight, but 2013 will prove to be THE year … The year I buy a size 10 jeans. The year I embrace Spring with bright colors in my wardrobe! The year I am eager for summer to arrive so I can wear SHORTS! The year I go to the beach with my children and don't feel as if I need to hide under a black 'cover-up'! The year I leave the lights on … if you know what I mean! My approval letter arrived last week and I am scheduled for banding on the 18th of December … pre-op diet starts on Monday … it's not going to be easy … but neither is lugging 100 pounds around for another year. Bring it on 2013 … !!!!!
