what about yogurt, cream of wheat, oatmeal, and most of all protein shakes. You probably are getting enough protein if you drink 1 and 1/2 isopures a day

I don't cook. Eat lots of sliced low sodium chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese, apple sauce, quest bars, nuts, etc.

What To Eat And What Not To Eat That Is The Question?
scarlet333 replied to natalie_christin's topic in Food and Nutrition
My doctor did not give me any specifics on grams of carbs, just to stay in the 800 calories per day range. Before the sleeve I have oatmeal almost every morning. Since after the surgery we really have to stress Protein I usually have the high protein (I think its about 10 grams of protein) instant quaker oats maybe 1 per week only (because its so high in carbs). On other mornings I have either a scrambled egg or 1/2 cup of 1% friendship cottage cheese with a few blueberries or a non fat plain greek yogurt sweetened with stevia. All of these are high protein options. -

SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
boardlady@netptc.net replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Frustr8, had RnY on August. No prediet required. One day ahead of surgery all liquid diet. I’m 65 years young. 8 days out of surgery and doing great. Transitioned to puréed soup and yogurt yesterday. So far so good. Good Luck to you. -
I have tried it and use it occasionally. The problem with adding it to things is the temperature. YOu cannot cook well with it because it clumps above 140 degree f. Adding to a drink would be kind of weird, but possible. I have added small amounts to yogurt, but no the full amount because it would dry it up pretty badly.

Hmmm this is interesting. I was having a conversation with another co worker who is a workout freak and he was telling me that his regimen before working out/lifting is oats with either some fruit or organic raw honey. I thought that meal sounded really heavy before working out but didn't think of eating it earlier. I usually do half an apple with nut butter or I might do greek yogurt with some home made granola in it.

Cheating on day 6 post op
Shaydi.Laine replied to DebraM04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, first off the hunger is probably real. Mine was. I was hungry right after surgery and didn't stop being hungry ALL THE TIME until about 2 weeks post op, then things got better. This is different for some people, the lucky ones are never hungry, the unlucky have to deal with hunger. That said, I get so frustrated reading posts from people who cheat early after surgery. This is a hint at epic failure down the road. If you cannot control yourself while healing from having your *stomach cut out*, you are going to be hard pressed to control yourself once the hard healing is over. Seek professional help instead of cheating. There are plenty of ways to alleviate hunger without making stupid (sorry but crackers, chips, crunchy anything, hard to digest meats, things with seeds, popcorn etc are really freekin' stupid) choices. I can't believe some of the things people decide to shovel down their throats while their bellies are healing!! STOP IT ALL OF YOU!!! I thrived on yogurt, pudding, and cream Soups. I made it through, so can anyone. Really, if you feel you must cheat, see your team psychologist. If you don't have one, find one. This is possibly the single most important thing you can do in terms of getting a handle on long term success NOW. -
50 lbs!!!!!
juliansmom2003 replied to juliansmom2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually was quite frustrated over the past 3-4 weeks. I was going from 185 to 182 back and forth. SOOOO maddening! I read about the 5-day pouch test and started it last week (click Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test if you'd like info on it). Yesterday was my last day and I feel so much better. Before it was like this scale isn't moving and I'm busting my a$$ following the rules, what gives? Now I'm not even hungry. For the first time this morning, I felt restriction on the way to work, not eating or drinking anything if that makes sense. That "chest fullness" everyone talks about. I don't know how this will effect my portion sizes yet now that I'm back on my normal routine, but I will post and let everyone know. I think this is what I needed to hold me until my next fill in two weeks! :cursing: Sample menu--hmm, here are some ideas for you: Breakfast- 1/2 cup Special K Blueberry w/ skim and 1 hard boiled egg OR I'll do a yogurt and low fat cheese stick. (If I'm home, I'll do some egg beaters with melted low fat cheese with some fruit) lunch- Canned chicken breast with lighy mayo, chopped onion & celery w/ tomato slice on arnold wheat thin and a very small salad w/ iceberg, tomato, green pepper w/ Kraft Free Catalina dressing Afternoon Snack (lots of times I don't need this during the day, since I have breakfast so late and I just run out of time LOL)-- Low fast cheese stick OR fat free yogurt OR hard boiled egg Dinner- Crock pot chicken, side of green Beans or steamfresh mixed veggies Evening snack (I will treat myself sometimes)- Skinny Cow mint ice cream sandwich or pumpkin cheesecake (180 cals, 19g of protein!) or other low fat, bad friendly dessert I hope this helps you! Hang in there. I know it can be very frustrating, but it's important to stay with it, ride out the rough Patches and our hard work will pay off. Keep me posted!!! -
I eat so slow that I pretty much eat throughout the day. It's not like grazing because I pack my lunch in a little bento box. I have 2 oz of cottage cheese, 3 oz of meat and/or cheese, sunflower seed crackers, 2 oz of fruit and maybe a Greek yogurt dip. It seems to keep me busy at work until it's time to go home. On the weekends I'm so busy that I usually have to remind myself to eat and then grab a quick meal. Is eating through the day unhealthy in the long run?

April 2011 Bandits
Jae2011bandster replied to Robin3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi millypili congratulations on being banded. I was banded on the 22nd. I didn't experience the shoulder pain like you are but I did have discomfort with the gas in my chest making it hard to take deep breaths. The best thing that I would recommend would be a heating pad and keep walking the gas will eventually go away. The liquid diet stinks but is needed to heal. I survived this week with my Protein shakes (Bariatric advantage) crystal light, Water, hot decaf tea and jello. I'm on the pureed stage now and that's been the hardest for me. I mainly have creamy Soups along with the Protein Shakes, yogurt and water. Things will start to improve as the days go by. Good luck to you on your journey! -
I've found that I really like my chicken either grilled or boiled with a little Water and some spices. I also am a fan of salad dressings now in a way that I never was before! I keep some ranch, vidalia onion, and italian dressing in the fridge at all times. The italian dressing is great to use instead of oil to cook chicken. Egg Face says that the key to eating meat after WLS is moisture, and she's right. She makes tons of different sauces/dips for her meat and that inspired me to keep the dressings on hand. I also like yogurt (unflavored greek right now) because I can mix in seasonings if I want something "italian" or "mexican" flavoried. There are tons of pre-seasoned meats for sale in the freezer section, but I usually will read the ingredients to see how something is prepared and then try to re-create that item at home. I also buy frozen wings, legs and thighs and will cook one or two at a time because I find the serving sizes on most prepared frozen dinners are too big for me now. THAT's a huge change from pre-op when I felt like they were way too small! Oh, and I really love Beans now. They weren't my favorite before surgery, but now I'll throw some beans in the crockpot and eat them alone or with a small piece of meat for lunch or dinner. Yummy!! Each of us learns what works for us by trial and error, so don't be afraid to experiment.

Frozen Yogurt Anyone?
Pookeyism replied to comfortably numb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it regular frozen yogurt I would have to say nay, I would be afraid it would mess up my tummy... Have you tried Skinny Cow? Not frozen yogurt but good. Comes in a much more proportionate size. Try mushing up some Jello, and a frozen fruit bar - kinda chunky, and you can do it with popcicles too. Put it into a freezer bag, push the air out, and let it freeze...and then dump it into a blender and pulse it for about 30 seconds...chop some ice in the blender first and let it sit, and toss that (it tempers your blender so your creation does not melt immediately - pour into an also tempered glass mug or such...it make a kinda gelatto thingy, very nice in my opinion. -
Mert - I am right there with you - today was the worst day yet as far as wanting to eat. I started my nursing classes today and they surprised us with a catered lunch for us to say Congrats on our scholarship - and it was awful to have it right under my nose and given to me as a gift kind of and not only want it - but also feel obligated to eat it. It was so hard not to gobble the whole grilled chicken salad down. I just played with it a bit and took a couple of bites of the cheese and chewed them for what seemed like 5 minutes each. I actually had to put some over in my friends dish so that it looked like I ate my meal. As soon as I had a break I ran to the car and had my smooth and creamy yogurt that I had packed. Then I accidently swallowed a piece of Trident gum and was so scared it would stick that all I did was drink Water for hours it seemed. I have been down about it all day. The sad thing is that this was a meal good for me and in just a few weeks I will be able to eat it (or at least a fraction of it). I just keep thinking this phase is not forever - it will pass - LOL. You give me a kick in the butt and I will give you a kick too... YOU CAN DO IT - and I CAN TOO!!! Off to have some Soup. Bye for now.

I stick to very simple things, I’d have stuck to shakes for breakfast but because of dysphasia thinner liquids aren’t going off too well for me but I still do the occasional Koia RTD and I my evening coffee so I’m trying to figure things out. I like to do PEScience protein powder in TwoGood yogurt. I don’t need big variety. But change a few things up as I can get them or are available to me. and keep them handy either shelf stable or freezer. I’m a creature of habit. Not much food appeals to me. I keep it simple. Some days it’s small meals some days it’s just protein powder and yogurt and maybe some juice flavor protein. I did start to add 2.5 oz veggie burger and BariatricPal has protein mashed potato that pair well with it. I haven’t ordered it again yet. So I made a 2.5 oz veggie burger with a egg on top. just to add some veg. I just track my protein calories and weight each day and what I eat. I think we need to learn what works for our bodies and do it on a timeline that works for us. Slow is better than going too fast and rushing into “normal food” my nutritionist and surgeon were like why aren’t you eating normal food yet. Well A. I have medical issues and B, I’m not ready and C. I’ll do what I feel comfortable with. we all need to keep In sight why we went into this and not fall into habits that got us here. And slowly learn the new way of life for our bodies. Also I find it weird that some guidelines allow for a lot more carbs and sugar and moving faster into “normal foods” which can easily lead to failure ... my relationship with food is tenuous at best with having lost my proper ability to taste food years ago, weird food allergies, now dysphasia, issues with my damn sensitive esophagus so I have to eat foods that are easy to chew soft and I have very little energy to chew. I’ve been totally turned off by meat especially chicken. But salmon sashimi with wasabi was actually pretty good. I’ve always had issue with nausea ... I like vegetables but my body doesn’t seem to. I guess I will shut myself up. When we go on this weight loss journey we take a good hard look at our selves and we can’t just climb right back into our old way of doing things. Food is not everything.mits not the be all end all of existence. We eat to live not live to eat and it’s a hard lesson to learn. But yes we can allow our selves little things here and there. Like I put a little sf land o lakes whip on my yogurt ... but there’s no need to rush to “normal” rather, learn what your new normal is. And sometimes that changes moment to moment and day by day. -

I can't speak for people in weight loss mode, but I know a ton of people in maintenance who eat protein pancakes. They use protein powder instead of flour, artificial sweetener (if any sweetener at all, that is), eggs, baking powder, unsweetened almond milk - sometimes cottage cheese or yogurt - and put sugar free syrup on them. I make them sometimes and top them with Greek yogurt, too, for extra protein. Nothing in those that is particularly bad. I suppose if they make you crave the real thing, then yea, but.... (of course the calories might be too high for those in weight loss mode, but not if you're in maintenance, unless you're making gigantic ones or eating a ton of them or something.. -
I don't normally like Greek yogurt (too sour creamy to me) but I know it's packed with lots o Protein so I've tried to like it. Just about 5 days ago, I bought 6 different brands/flavors to give them all a fair shake. The best so far? Trader Joes Vanilla strawberry Open Nature Honey I HATE Chobani, Oikos, and Yoplait. Fage is good, just not fantastic. I also bought a Dannon Light and Fit (cappucino flavor) just haven't tried it yet. It's got the smallest amt of calories. I think it's 80. I don't really look at the carbs - just calories and protein. The TJ's has hefty calories (180) for a tub of yogurt (it's 8 oz vs the normal 6). Good luck in finding a good one. I Luv luv luv the 90 cal Fat Free Yoplait fruit blends but there's barely any protein in them. Still fairly healthy in my mind. Better than a Snickers bar! I consider anything healthy thats better than a Snickers bar! Sad, I know...

I'm a fan of Unjury, but I don't think I'd try to put it in Crystal Light. I tried the jello recipe on the Unjury site and it's tolerable, but I don't think I'd stand in line for it. Unflavored Unjury is best when mixed with milk-based products. I put a tablespoon or so in my greek yogurt to get an extra protein kick. If you're looking for something clear, Premier Protein makes clear protein supplement drinks. I haven't tried them, but others on this site speak highly of them. I bought the Isopure from GNC but they leave a weird dry-feeling in my mouth that I just can't tolerate. For me, if I'm tired of milk based protein supplements, I keep Unjury Chicken flavored on hand. I like it because it's a nice change from the sweetness of most protein shakes and it is warm/soothing. Warning: it is high in sodium.

you don't want to do that. It will hurt! Your stomach needs time to properly heal. Puree is not as bad as it sounds. Be creative. I ate egg salad, pureed chicken and gravy, ff/plain greek yogurt with splenda and chocolate, extracts or baby fruit (stage 1) FF Ricotta seasoned italian style and heated, then topped with sauce, I have a cannoli cream recipe too, if you are interested. Egg beaters, etc.......
-
I mixed unflavored Protein powder with every kind if cream soup I could find... Lobster bisque, tomato, potato leek, Cream of shrimp, asparagus, chicken, mushroom, celery... Some of them had little chunks in them so I diluted them with milk or Water and strained them first. I Never worried about the fat content. In fact, my surgeon's dietician laughed when I questioned the fat content of the drinkable yogurt she recommended. You can't possibly eat enough at this point for the fat calories to matter. Besides, you need fat in your diet for cellular functions and absorption of Vitamins. Avocados were a fav when I got to mushies...still are, along with nuts, real 1/2 and 1/2 for my coffee and regular 4% cottage cheese. Check the labels...."low fat". Usually has higher carbs.

Can I have some yogurt now ?!
Melanie89 replied to natarshassleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great time to learn to be able to do things that we think we can't take. You have made a huge decision to change your lifestyle and your postop diet is part of it. At least call your surgeons office and ask if you can add yogurt. You really don't need strangers approval to do what you want to do. I know for me, it was important to be able to meet my Protein and liquid goals and follow my plan. I found each stage to get tiresome because I wanted what was coming next. It is a very small sacrifice in the big scheme. And that first scrambled egg was the best ever! You will get there. This!Omg you are sooo dramatic that's what I hate about this site alot of the Americans act like your gonna die if you eat something. She hasn't asked for a McDonald's or KFC or pizza hut it's a yogurt for gods sake. I'm not telling her to eat anything I told her of my experience and what I did. I did eat a yogurt before I was suppose to both happened my nurse said it's a slider food so nothing with happen or get stuck. You need to realise everyone's experiences are different and accept that!!! Sent from my SM-G901F using the BariatricPal App -
October 17Th'ers.. Where Are Ya?
Kmasden replied to imlosingit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope you are okay jhumphries, that isn't near enough calories and I am wondering if you need to get in sooner so you don't dehydrate (if you aren't getting even clear Fluid down). On a side note, i did a no no today. My diet has been super conservative with still being on thicker liquids and another almost two weeks to hit purees, so i've been feeling a tad bit jealous of those of you having a little more "real" sustenance. Plus my weight loss seems to be stalling. Boo. Even though i know it can't last forever. I did eat a couple bites of a very finely chopped chicken salad and it went down fine, but the no no was i decided to have an itty bitty pinkberry. I didn't have toppings except for a little nutella. A couple things i noticed was that wow, i was full very fast...was hard to finish and i shouldn't have. I ended up soooo sick. I didn't throw up because i was driving, but felt like it and was sweaty and sick and felt like i would have a bridesmaids episode if i could. I'm not sure if it was overstuffing as the frozen yogurt is thicker than what i've been having, or if it was the richness of that little spoon of nutella. Either way, while it was delish for all of 10 minutes eating it while melting in the hot california sun, but it was horrid for a good half an hour afterwards at least. Came home and went straight to bed, feeling better now. Could that be "dumping" even though i'm sleeved and not bypassed, or was this a typical, i overdid it. It was super small (comparitively) but still a good 1/4 cup or slightly more. Guess the good thing is, the type of sick i felt is something i don't want to revisit. Also, the full part, it wasn't so much that i felt full like old days where you have to unbuckle, but full like i did not want another bite...more satisfied full. Unfortunately the brain running my mouth had a hard time giving it up without eating the rest. Big mistake!! Hope you all are doing okay. It's a rollercoaster that's for sure! -
I made some rookie mistakes yesterday when I added fruit and vegetables to my protein shake. I put so much in that there wasn't room for hardly any ice. By the end of the drink, it just tasted like lukewarm beet juice. Today's is much better! 1 scoop of market pantry chocolate protein 3 tablespoons of organic fat free vanilla yogurt 1/2 large organic cucumber 1 handful of organic blueberries lots of ice This is a much smoother taste. And according to the interwebs, cucumber is a natural anti-inflammatory!
