What are the first foods to try in week 4
ShelterDog64 replied to CVanPelt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your week 4 purees or soft foods? Every plan is different, I was on full food by the end of week 4. Good soft foods: refried Beans with cheese, ricotta with sauce, cottage cheese with pureed fruit, soft scrambled eggs (for most people, not for me), yogurt, softer cheeses. I mixed unflavored Protein into most everything I ate. Like @@amandastearns said, shakes are a good option still at that point, especially if the food choices are complicated and you don't have a lot of time to spend worrying about food. -
What are the first foods to try in week 4
amandastearns replied to CVanPelt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would honestly prepare to be mostly drinking protein shakes at that point. I was allowed to eat at 3 weeks post op (soft foods) but for the first two months shakes felt the best in my new stomach. I really liked eggs (scrambled or deviled), canned chicken with light mayo, yogurt with flavorless protein. -
I always have Protein before I go to bed. It helps me sleep and also helps keep my blood sugar level during the night. I agree with the shakes, and sometimes I will have an egg or yogurt. (BTW, NEVER chew gum! If you swallow it, you can do some damage they tell me, but also it creates air in your stomach/pouch) I also will drink herbal tea with unflavored Protein Powder in it. I have one of those frothers that helps it dissolve and it makes it so smooth and creamy, And helps me sleep as well.

Hello Out There August 2016 Sleevers!
renewyou replied to Sc7272's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 8/15 too. I have no trouble getting my Protein in but still struggle with Water. I'm slowly coming out of a 2 week Stall. I'm almost done with pureed food ( hallelujah) and to be honest I only pureed to baby food consistency once. I could barely get it down so I went with minced foods. My daily in take went like this, hope it helps Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt 12 g. Protein 1/2c cottage cheese (9-12 grams) 1 protein shake. 30 grams 1/2- 1c chicken tortilla Soup ( Costco) 5-10 grams 1/2c Trader Joes guilt free Chicken salad or good eats chicken salad from costco 14 grams Also, I've baked turkey meat balls and added Swedish meatball sauce or masala sauce. The baked meatball is more tender and easier to brake up with my fork. It goes down pretty well if I eat slowly. Like I said, this is how I get my protein in but I'm not a fast loser. That's always a plus! If you want yogurt- try the Oikos Greek Triple zero. I use the Danon Light and Fit- post op bypass here And you don't need a whole container of you're eating with other things. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
4 days post op and I'm worried
rhaya sunshine posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe this sounds insane, but I'm worried because I'm having too easy of a time. I'm meeting my protein and water goals with no struggle. Im getting my pills down i can drink all of my shakes. Am i going to over eat because of this? Im drinking 8oz shakes but my "meals" aka yogurt and soup are both 4oz because I'm scared to go above. Everyone i know has struggled and I'm happy I'm not but it makes me feel abnormal, like I'm doing something wrong or something is wrong or maybe my sleeve is too big. opinions? similar experiences -
Clumping and burning - ISOPURE non-flavored Protein
Omieliz replied to Omieliz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said I could use nonfat plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese during this phase (because they turn to a liquid). I've been using them now for abbot 3 days. I mix a scoop of the Isopure powder in with a quarter cup of either, blend it really good, and take tiny little bites. If I start to hurt, I stop and put it away. It takes me about an hour to get through it, but it's not the nasty sweet stuff :-). It's also not very tasty, but tasty can get me in trouble so I'm okay with it. I spent a lot of time shopping and reading labels before and after surgery. I made a notebook of food ideas/recipes. Pinterest is great for Bariatric surgery recipes. I still buy low fat low sugar yogurt and cottage cheese, tuna, smoked salmon for my husband. I opt for low fat chicken broth to cook with. I still choose the low fat soups for emergency. I love the ease of rotisserie chicken for chicken salad, etc. Three years post op I am now drinking protein shakes once a day to jumpstart some weight loss. The best advice I have is to just choose foods which are healthy for you, and I am now on a journey to leave processed food out of our diet. I think of the years I got fat eating Lean Cuisine and WW meals daily. Never again. Good luck!

Pre-Op Gastric Bypass
sandeeb replied to Saria Fleming's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am always surprised to hear about other pre op diets. Mine is restrictive but not liquid at all. I can have 800 calories and 80 or more of Protien. They gave me a menu sample and lots of yogurts lean meats etc .i know I will miss caffeine the most and my glass of wine with dinner! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Fairlife Milk. I have been lactose intolerant for 30 years! After WLS switched from lactaid milk to fairlife. More protein and calcium and less sugar! Taste more like regular milk. Lactaid has a sweet taste. It made me sick after surgery which is why I switched. I eat yogurt and cheese and cottage cheese with lactaid pills. Did this before and after surgery. Good luck and enjoy your dairy!

I pre-op by almost a couple of weeks.. I need suggestions for the best tasting Lactose free dairy items? Yogurt, cottage cheese etc. Thanks in advance!

Foods My Pouch Can Tolerate
HanSolo1977 replied to mrsocheltree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've been eating Elli Quark... which is a german-style cheese a lot like greek yogurt. It has a higher protein-to-carb ratio, it's slightly lower calorie, and lemme tell you, 4 tablespoons of it almost over fills me. It also tastes less sour to me than greek yogurt. They have lots of great flavors, including those without chunks for us puree eaters... -
Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey, refried beans, and t soft fish were and are pretty much staples for me.

For the Re-Gainers who have LOST, please share HOW you lost it again
Bandista replied to mi75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got down to 175 briefly and wanted to lose another 10-20 (still not sure what will be ideal weight for me). Instead I promptly gained 12 or so pounds, which meant I needed to lose 25. That felt like "same old, same old" and I definitely wanted to nip that in the bud. I love my collar bones and hips -- and my size ten jeans, etc.! Friends (non-WLS) and spouse went on Whole30 program which is basically Protein and veggies, a little whole fruit, some nuts, etc. but easy on all that -- basically meat, fish, chicken and veg. It's how I need to be eating anyway and I have been able to get back on track for myself that way. Feels good. With a band it's really important to chew, chew, chew and to avoid slider foods. Of course it's easy to come to rely on those yummy things like yogurts, fancy cheeses, etc. Oh, and alcohol apparently does me no favors as far as the scale is concerned. Avoiding the constant wine & cheese party mode is very helpful. I am back in the jeans I had before and hopefully on my way to the next pair that are waiting. -
I am four months out from RNY surgery and doing really well. I recently had my Vitamin levels checked, and several measures of my Iron were low. Normal range for a woman, I believe, is 10-150. Mine was 5. My surgeon was not overly concerned about this--will monitor and see how I am doing at my 6 month blood work, possibly supplement with an iron pill. I currently take 36 mg iron in my chewable Multivitamin. I am okay with waiting, except for the fact that my hair is falling out like crazy. (Not all the fault of low iron, I know....but I believe it is contributing to it.) In the meantime, my primary care doctor has encouraged me to try to increase the amount of iron I am getting in my diet. She agrees that I will probably need a larger supplement than what I am currently taking, but feels that it would be good to try and see if I can raise my iron level through diet before my 6 month blood test. Iron fortified Cereal seems to be the best source of iron that I can eat. My current plan is adding a quarter cup of bran flakes to my greek yogurt--gives it a nice little crunch and gives me 6 mg of iron in just a quarter cup. (To compare, ground beef has about half a mg per ounce.) Wondering what everyone else is doing for iron. DId you have problems with iron being low right after surgery? Do you supplement with a pill, injections, other??

Low carb not working
elvis3734 replied to elvis3734's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am using a yogurt dressing on the salad. Bolthouse. Only 2 tablespoons. Will quit the chili. Have to think of something else for lunch though. Thank you. But, I am curious about people losing weight after surgery. Don't they eat only around 800 cal a day and drop a ton of weight? Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App -
Low carb not working
OutsideMatchInside replied to elvis3734's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That doesn't seem like enough calories to lose weight. Also like @@Rebecca66 said, you aren't really low carbing. The yogurt and the chili alone are blowing all your carbs for the day. Also, make sure you are weighing all your food and getting all the proper portions, if you don't weigh your food and get the portions right it is very easy to over or under eat. -
Low carb not working
Armygalbonnie replied to elvis3734's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does seem like you are getting a lot of carolies My pre-surgery diet directed by my NUT, consisted of the following: - Protein shake for breakfast - morning snack - lunch = 3 to 4 oz lean protein, 1 c non-starchy veggies - afternoon snack - dinner = 3 to 4 oz lean protein, 1 c non-starchy veggies Snack options: - unflavored protein power + sugar free drink mix - Protein bat (15+ g protein/less than 15g carbs - 1 oz low-fat cheese and small piece fruit/veggies - 6 oz low-sugar, low-fat yogurt (Greek preferred) - 1/2 c low-fat cottage cheese @ 1/2 c fruit - 1-2 oz lean protein + 1/2 fruit or veggies 1 to 2 whole grain carbs can be added a month. By following this mealplan with a few 1/2 bananas added in, I lost 17 lbs in one month. Good luck! -

Wish I knew ahead of time what my tummy likes - wasting food and money
MissKay replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
@@Valentina gave the best advice, try something again in a few weeks if you find you can't tolerate it right now. I could NOT do scrambled or hard boiled eggs. The food was soft enough, but it caused a lot of pain in my stomach, cramping/gas like. It hurt so much I was scared to try them again. But 4 weeks later and I was mixing eggs in with some hashbrowns, meat, and veggies. I have never been able to stand greek yogurt. The one and new exception is the Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt. It's actually really good.
