    Advice and encouragement

It is so, so important to remember that stalls are a completely normal, expected part of WLS. Nobody loses weight at a set pace the ENITRE time and then magically just stop when they reach goal. Weight loss is not linear - it is an up and down, start and stop, stall and restart process. So you need to make peace with the fact that you will not lose weight every week, when you do lose weight it will be variable, and that all of this is normal and healthy. That being said, a true stall is usually considered 3+ weeks, although this definition varies amongst doctors/dietitians. Regardless, a week or two with no movement, or even a slight gain, is NOT a stall. Most people's weight fluctuates 5ish pounds day over day - meaning you may weight 2lbs more today than you did yesterday and in reality, didn't actually gain any weight. I would suggest not weighing everyday. Its not helpful or healthy and can actually lead to some really unhealthy habits. Pick a set day each week to weigh - I weight on Tuesdays because I had surgery on a Tuesday so I'm tracking week over week from my surgery day. Also, take measurements and pictures. While you may (often) not see the scale move, your body WILL be changing. Keeping tangible data helps remind you that there is still progress and gives your brain concrete evidence. Lastly, you just need to give it time and trust the process. WLS is not magic, it takes time and consistency. This isn't just another diet we can give up on, this is the rest of our lives. Hang in there, you are exactly where you are meant to be.

    Elite sweet doughnuts.

I haven't tried those. I have to be careful because a lot of the zero sugar things are made with stevia and it tastes terrible if not mixed with other sweeteners. Also, I only like red/purple/blue flavors, so I would probably waste half the bag, not like that would be a bad thing! I tried the SmartSweets Swedish Fish and I didn't care for them, but I might try other flavors of those. I know I got the Welch's at LAX, and I'll be there in a few weeks, so hopefully I can stock up LOL.
  5. Hi, I need some encouragement please. I am into my 2nd stall since WLS. First one came less than two weeks from my surgery date and lasted a week, now I am in this second one but this one is much longer (going on three weeks). To make matters worse I am a slow loser. This is starting to get discouraging and darn annoying. I'm left wondering if I made a big mistake getting WLS and am I going to stay at this weight. Was this it? I'm trying to stay positive about but the bad is starting to outweigh the good. Please tell me it gets better.
  6. Omg TWELVE months pregnant…that would be a sight to behold 😂 Yay on the stall breaking and boo about the hair…but like u said, its all par for the course, so hang in there. P.S. Keep an eye on the fish oil intake it may cause lower blood pressure (among other things in high doses) and with the already lowered blood pressure due to surgery and weight loss, you may get woozy. Good Luck! ❤️
  7. Don’t be nervous about missing a day, as lizonaplane said it takes a while to create a deficiency. Think about it, we get stomach flus and don’t eat right for a week and we are fine. And some people can’t take their vitamins for a couple weeks post surgery and they are fine. I agree with taking something if you can’t but don’t get too stressed about it.
  8. If it's only going to be a few weeks it really won't matter which vitamin you take - it really takes a while for any deficiencies to be an issue. Also, not sure what you mean by vitamins being "prescription". You can order pro-care health, celebrate, etc just online... you don't need a prescription! Maybe if you want insurance to pay for them you need a scrip? Pro-Care Health is cheaper if you order directly from them than Amazon. I also use Celebrate (smell less bad) and the generic one-a-day women's with iron, because the bariatric ones make me very nauseous and sometimes I throw up.

    Bowel Movement after Sleeve

it can take a week to have the first BM. And it's often a doozy! A lot of us take stool softeners to ease the "passage"... just so you know, chronic constipation is a common issue after weight loss surgery (but usually not as bad as that first post-surgery one). Many of us take a capful of Miralax or stool softeners to stay on top of it.
  10. Hi People, I had a gastric sleeve done exactly a week ago and I still haven’t pooped! 😳 I’m not sure there is anything to poop as I spent the first 5 days vomiting a lot. I was in hospital till yesterday and they tried a Microlax on me but we only got bubbles. 🫧 How long did it take you to get your bowel moving again? Any suggestions that won’t make me feel nauseous again?

    Surgery today

Welcome to the club and good luck! First few days/week can be a bit of an adjustment but you'll make it.
  12. A lot of sleevers have episodes of the foamies. It usually occurs if you eat too fast or too much or something that is too dry/coarse. Dumping is less common with sleeves than bypass. (Dumping occurs if you eat too much sugar or fat.) Both side effects can be managed simply by being careful about how & what you eat. I’m three years out & I had a bout two days ago. I ate too quickly because I wasn’t eating mindfully (I was having a ‘discussion’ with my mother 😉) & cough, spit & up came that last bite. I know you said your reflux developed as a complication with your band & once it was removed the gerd stopped, but I’m wondering if this may make you more likely to develop gerd post sleeve. I don’t know but it may be worth asking your surgeon if bypass might be a better option. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Any July buddies?

Hi everyone... Newbie here. Just joined this evening. Please be nice. My surgery is set for July 6th. I stated the journey last year in August 2021. I took my time with the process and making sure my mind was ready. Been on LSD for 2 1/2 weeks... still got a week to go. I've lost around 16 pounds on the LSD. First week was the hardest. I can eat 1 meal a day - protein and 2 non-starchy vegetables. I can have 2 snacks - 1 protein and 1 non-starchy vegetable. I finally figured out heading into week 2 of LSD that I can eat 3 oz of protein as a snack instead of a cheese stick or 1 egg. So I'm getting 2 good servings of protein per day with 3 non-starchy vegetables. Hoping to learn a lot from everyone.

    Day 14 ESG

Seems like you’re going well. Yay!! But watch the heavy weights. We’re usually advised to not lift anything over a few kilograms to begin so you don’t pull the stitches & staples holding your tummy together. Check with your medical team to be sure. I love green tea & am so glad I had no issues drinking it post surgery. Wondering if you maybe drank a little too much too quickly. Or maybe it got too strong & bitter & upset your sensitive tummy as it seems to keep brewing even without the tea bag or leaves. Don’t give up on it though. Try it again next week.

    Sore shoulder?

How long ago was your surgery? If in the last few days remember you haven’t eaten much in the last few weeks if you were on a liver shrinking diet & you aren’t eating solid right now so it may take a few days to have a BM. When a person has surgery they are given meds to make every muscle in their body relax! It takes a few days to come out of that. Doctors usually tell patients to take something like Colace to help with having a BM post surgery. Don’t try too hard, it will happen when it happens. I know it feels like you should go but don’t strain over it. The pain in your left shoulder is caused by the gas the surgeon uses to blow your abdomen up so they have more room to work. Some surgeons are better at removing the gas then others. Some people are more susceptible to the pain then others. Mine always takes about 3 weeks to go away. That is way longer then most peoples. They say that walking helps with that. But pain meds & muscle relaxers won’t help with that because it is your Vegus Nerve that is screaming it & causing the pain. Hope your pain goes away soon & you aren’t is so much agony.

    Any July buddies?

I'm meant to be on 20th July for a Roux NY and a hiatal hernia repair. Fingers crossed! as it's been postponed three times already lol Best of luck to everyone waiting for their surgeries 🙏👍
  17. Its the small things that count! I don't look like I'm 12 months pregnant anymore. Good news the stall out that was happening, is finally over after 5 weeks! Finally dropped 3 more pounds, I'll take it. My hair is falling out like there is no tomorrow. Like a handful every time I brush. I know this is normal, I expect after the first 6 months it will lighten up. I'm at 4 months. Take all my vitamins. Even take a fish oil supplement because it works so good for my dogs fur, thought I'd try people fish oil. The jurys still out.

    Any July buddies?

Hi everyone! I’m having the sleeve on July 21. My two-week liquid diet starts a week from tomorrow.
  19. See that's what is kind of throwing me for a loop, according to the booklet I received I am able to have additionals aside from liquids. I have my final group nutrition class in a few weeks so I'll get more information then. Just surprised I could have more than liquids. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Congrats on your wl, you are doing great. I’m 7 months post bariatric revision and have lost 79lbs to date. I’m officially stalling been 180-181 for almost 3 weeks now. This is longest stall I’ve had and starting to wonder if I’m done losing?? Got a couple more months to go to reach a year and my projected wl is 100lbs.. I hope this stall breaks this week!!!
  21. My surgery is scheduled for August 8th. The doc office I'm going through has a program where you come in and weigh 3 weeks before your surgery. If you are within 5 pounds of your pre-op goal then you only have to do the liquid diet for one week before surgery. If not, you have to do two weeks of liquid diet. On their liquid diet you can only have clear, sugar-free liquids and 4 shakes per day made with the protein powder they sell at their office mixed with milk or Mootopia (protein milk substitute). That's it. Needless to say, I'm really aiming to be in that range where I only have to do one week of the liquid diet! Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any July buddies?

I started my pre-op diet today! My surgery is scheduled for next week July 6th. I am so beyond pumped!
  23. I today ran out of my vitamin starter pack from my Dr. I plan on ordering a package plan around the 5th of July (waiting for payday). I am not sure why or how I waited so long to get more. 🙄 So my problem is I need to get something that I can take for a week or two until my bariatric vitamins come in. Does anyone know how I might can find something? Thank You, Tracy (RNY gastric bypass 5/23/22)

    Any July buddies?

My surgery is on July 8th and I started my pre op diet on 06/24 and for me I’m on my 6th day and I don’t even like the liquids anymore I am tired of them already, when I first started they were really good like I could chug them lol however at this point I’m forcing myself to drink the protein drinks cause I don’t even get hungry to drink those anymore but my surgery is about a week away so I’m almost there and know I can do it, I know you will be able to as well!! Good luck!

    What can I eat?

What about soups? I'm 6 weeks out and can pretty much eat anything right now but for some reason tomato soup is my go to (aside from varying the flavor of the protein shake I'm drinking). But definitely talk with your team, seems pretty restrictive to me. I wish you lots of luck!
