    Yogurt...

I love yogurt and have tried close to every brand out there. My favorite is Two Good yogurt. They are only 80 calories per cup, 2 grams of sugar, and 12 grams of protein so they are very filling. They are not as sweet as Chobani and not as bitter as plain non-fat Greek yogurt. Its a nice in-between. I highly recommend you check it out. https://www.twogoodyogurt.com/lower-sugar-yogurt/

    Need help-support-advice on my diet

-My fluid intake is ok. Not getting 64-probably close, around 40-50. Not vomiting, but the other end was acting up I didn't think of that-maybe? It sure feels like I am in stage one or two. I absolutely hate Liquid Protein shakes, however, have not tried the GNC one you mentioned. I will look at those today and see where my GNC is. I have bodylogix currently, and they dissolve awful. I have to whir it in the blender with a banana then let it settle because the air upset s my stomach. I was doing one every other day, but if I had a better product, I would use it more often. Good point! I made a huge pot of turkey broth with veg last night. I was able to drink a cup of broth and no issues. I seem to be very sensitive to any sort of fat, salt, garlic-especially!! and onions. I need very bland food. Is that normal? Thanks! I use MFP as well I guess I need to slow down and go back t othe basics and give myself more time to heal. Thanks for your advice! So it sounds like I am just pushing it too much, which is probably true. I take a multi-Vitamin and was taking B vitamin, however, cannot tolerate it right now. I love greek yogurt but even that feels like it gets stuck-I have had to water it down. But going back to the soft sounds like a great idea and start, and reminding myself that I need to heal and sickness probably made it worse...thanks for the help!
  3. Thanks girls! Yes I'm on Stage 1 All liquid diet. But I don't see anything bedsides Jello and popsicles. But it says: If you have reached your 480z. (Which I have). Then you can move to Almond milk, 1% milk, Kefir drinkable yogurt or blenderized low fat soups(chicken noodle/puréed). Yes. I'll call my surgeons office 2morrow morning for sure regarding the pudding.
  4. I've tried everything and it's all making me sick! Protein shakes, protein gels, Greek yogurt, milk, peanut butter, eggs???? it's all so nasty! I don't know how I'm going to do this!
  5. Here are some food ideas I've been enjoying this summer, along with some tips to make the prep super fast. I call these "recipes" (in quotes) because they don't include measurements (except the last one). They're more meant to serve as inspiration. My first tip is that, I've been buying pre-cooked quinoa and brown rice recently and keeping it in the freezer until I'm ready to use it. Brown rice (or your favorite grain, farro would be lovely) can be swapped for quinoa in any of these "recipes", though quinoa has the least carbs and highest Protein of the bunch (since it's a seed, not a grain). Quinoa is really easy to cook, and if you make a big batch you can portion and freeze the left overs. But the pre-cooked version is great when you're too tired to even boil Water. Cheesy Quinoa: - Mix prepared quinoa with skim milk, or fat free yogurt, and your favorite sharp melting cheese. Pop in the microwave and stir regularly. I like to add some veg for Fiber and Vitamins too. Chopped tomato, broccoli, or zucchini are my favs. For an extra boost of vegetarian protein throw in some canned black Beans. -- I like to keep frozen veg on hand for times like this, and I buy pre-shredded extra sharp cheddar (a small grating of fresh, real, Parmesan cheese adds a nice nutty saltiness too) Summer Caprese - Fill your (small) plate with really good fresh mozzarella cheese (tear it from the ball, don't slice, for a rustic feel), the best summer tomatoes you can find, and fresh summer corn. Top with olive oil, course salt, fresh ground pepper, and your favorite fresh herbs if you have them on hand. You'll get protein from the cheese, healthy fat from the olive oil, and fiber and nutrition from the veg. Yum! - I love to have fresh corn in the summer - I throw them in the oven with husks still on right on the oven grates, then store in the fridge in gallon size bags. Frozen, defrosted corn would work fine too though Quinoa Kale Pesto with Shrimp - Some time many months ago I was feeling ambitious and made a kale pesto, and froze the left overs in an ice cube tray, that now sit in a baggie in my freezer (to be inspired, the "recipe" included kale, bacon fat, pecans and Parmesan cheese). Recently I broke out a few cubes, mixed with pre-cooked quinoa, pre-cooked frozen/defrosted shrimp, and some pieces of frozen kale. You can sub a store-bought or fresh pesto of your choosing. I heated it up (microwave) with some anchovy slices for an extra Omega hit and salty kick. I was able to split one small bowl between Breakfast and lunch because it filled me up so much Quinoa Chickpea Sardine salad - in this case I'm using salad as in "tuna salad" or "egg salad", not as in lettuce salad - This one packs a macro-nutrient punch, though it doesn't have any veg the way I made it (celery, or tomato would be good though) - Mix canned chickpeas with quinoa, and a tin of sardines (I used the kind packed in olive oil, but don't pour all the oil in). I then mixed well with some all-natural mayo, and seasoned with salt, pepper, celery seed, and dried thyme. I'm trying to work seafood into my diet more, so this was a great way to get some in. The quinoa, sardines and chickpeas all have protein, and the sardines, oil, and chickpeas have healthy fat. And the mayo, in moderation, is just there because it tastes good! (The brand I bought actually has 25% DV of Vitamin E per serving - so that is slightly redeeming) And finally, last but not least, one of my favorite things I ever learned how to cook: Cheese Sauce. It comes out so creamy and delicious I promise skim milk works great. This sauce is amazing mixed with spaghetti squash which...you can cook whole in the microwave (just be sure to pierce it with a knife to avoid explosion)! Yum. I swear you will not miss the pasta! It goes great on anything you want cheesy. Cheese Sauce (this is an actual recipe - scale up or down using the proportions below) - Ingredients: 1 tbsp olive oil or butter, 1 tbsp flour, 1 cup skim milk, 1 oz grated sharp melting cheese, salt to taste - Heat the oil/butter in a pot, and add the flour and cook slightly until the flour is fully incorporated and a light caramel color. - Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring the flour mixture dissolves - Keep whisking over med-low heat until the mixture becomes thick and creamy (this is a bechamel!) - Add your cheese until it melts and salt to taste - This recipe take some actual work unlike the others, but it's so tasty it's hard to pass up I hope these ideas can serve as inspiration! Meal prep doesn't have to be hard. The freezer and microwave can be your friend, without reaching for processed meals.

    August Post Ops

I use vita-vim chewable vitamins, they might be jamieson brand. I got to see a dr today. He gave me a prescription for a different antacid that I'll try tomorrow. Also got a scrip for anti nausea, tried it 15min ago and its staying down alright. I was getting to the point where water was even making me nauseous. In the past 4 days I had 2 bites of banana, 2 tbsp yogurt, half cup soup and maybe 5 cups of water. Was drinking some g2 Gatorade trying to get electrolytes.

    Cheated need HELP!

EXACTLY, like what the heck was I thinking.. Well I do know WHY, but its not an excuse. Prior to surgery was always going out with the girls for drinks. bingo, lunches etc. as I am a social butterfly Post-op I've just been hanging in the house getting used to the new rules etc and I think I was just really ready to get out and see some old familiar faces and places and made the decision to have 2 drinks!!!!! Thoug I'm not an introvert AT ALL, I'm going to have to resume my introverted activities if I can't go out and not drink. Doc told me I could have wine starting Feb 3rd. That's around the corner... I could have just waited!!!!!!! UGH I know the purpose of eating slow as I have always been a slow eater... this is just excessively SLOWWWWWWWW... Lol but yes much smaller plates is a wonderful idea. I usually only put 2/3 oz anyway because I can never do 4 oz in one sitting unless it's Soup or yogurt.... weird I guess. Thanks for the advice

    What did you eat

I did not like baby food. I pureed: Soup, chicken salad, egg salad, Wendy's chili. I also had yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, hummus. I still drank 1 Protein shake a day to help make sure I got in my Protein.

    January Sleevers ❄️

So close to onederland! Weighed in at 200# on the dot. Was stalled for 3 weeks then dropped 5 lbs in a weekend. Surgery was 1/7. I just upped my walking time from 30 min to an hour+ a day. I can eat anything I want. Usually 3-4 meals a day, protein shakes in between. I try to think of meat/protein rich sources first. I've got a college diet. Yogurt, tacos, chicken nuggets, etc. Cafeteria food = fast food. I try for a portion of protein and some carbs. Probably up to 900 Cal a day. I weight train maybe 2-3 days/week. No issues with hair or skin yet. Knock on wood. Good with liquids, bad with vitamins. Either they're horse pills or taste like hay.
  10. Yogurt is a great vehicle for crushed pills!
  11. I will definitely call my surgeon and pharmacist and see what the deal is. My largest pill is generic Neurontin, gabapentin. It has a half score on it. But wouldn't the sharp edges from the cut pill(s) be a potential harm to the stapled pouch? If not, then why are we straining things like plain yogurt? I'm on full liquids upon arriving home. I still hate to crush. I also take bupropion, which seems like it's coated. But I'm not understanding how we/some can take pills when the pouch is so "sensitive" that we go on special diet protocols to avoid hurting it. I like your ideas on how to take crushed pills, and like even better that some people swallow whole pills. Again, I do what my surgeon says!

    3 days post op......

I had mine done on the 24th as well - no pain medicine for the last 2 days and overall feeling good! Already tired of this liquid diet and craving yogurt and applesauce. I had a yogurt smoothie today and did pretty well with it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. @Groovymommy... You're doing GREAT! I'm so impressed with your high losses. How many grams of protein and water would you say you honestly get a day? The faintness and dizzy spells are a concern. Maybe now that the pepcid is helping your stomach you'll be able to eat and drink more. Crossing my fingers for you. And congrats on the new underwear! I look forward to that. I'm moving along. At my slow pace. My hair has started falling out. That's new and unwelcomed since I already thinned out when the early menopause hit. But I suppose it was expected. I'll also expect it to stop around month 8 like many say it will. And try and be clever with my hair styles until then. At least we're all mostly stuck at home right now. I'm 4.5 months post and I've lost 37 since surgery and 42 since the pre-op diet. I'm between 180-181 and Just past my halfway goal to 150. On average I eat about 1000 cals a day with 65-70 protein and about the same in carbs. I get 48 ounces of water a day. No more no less. It seems to be sustaining me. I don'T have dizzy spells or weakness. But I struggle to poop and have a LOT of headaches/migraines. I've started taking motrin now and again always with a prilosec. And started a steroid for a few days sue to several mirgaines in a row. A little worried about how they will affect my stomach but so far so good minus the constant constipation. Not a great deal else to share. No new clothes yet but I'd gained weight fairly quickly the last year so I was still wearing a couple different sizes regularly. Clothes are definitely looser and people are starting to comment on my losses now and the which is nice. I'm eager to hit 179 as that's what I weighed on a vacation we took 4 years ago where I enjoy the pictures I'm in. So it feels like a weight I can start acknowledging that I'm looking better despite having that common resistance to actually SEEING my progress in the mirror. The weather has turned cold here in the midwest so the daily long walks are over for a while. It's onto the treadmill which I don't love. But netflix makes it easier. Whatcha guys eating? I still rarely get fruits and veggies in. Maybe one serving a day. Hope my vitamin covers the rest. But I'm always hitting my protein goal so I'm feeling pretty accomplished. This is a typical day... I have my 23 gram smoothie in the morning which is greek yogurt, banana almond milk and PB2. Just had 2 oz of strip steak for lunch at 17 grams pro and two bites of my daughter's apple. The snack I just finished is coffee with chocolate fairlife milk and 1/4 cottage cheese for 13 grams pro. So I'm at 53 grams. Dinner will probably Chinese stirfry. I'll have 2 oz chicken and a few snowpeas. For another 12 grams protein. Then I'll have a treat... like a square of dark chocolate or a few bites of my husband's dessert. That's a typical day. Plus 48oz water and at least 30 minutes cardio/power walking. Hope everyone else is seeing success. Feel free to share their typical day. ONWARD!
  15. How’s everyone feeling today? We’ve got some newly post ops and a couple about to go. @Groovymommy I’m getting excited for you! Today is decidedly better for me. Less soreness. Less queasy. I had some fat free Greek yogurt with a little unsweetened applesauce ( about 3 tablespoons) and my protein broth. My family is currently eating burgers with all the fixings including guacamole and fried eggs, seasoned curly fries and chocolate cake. So I am hiding out in the bedroom. I am determined to not let my choice to do this surgery make them feel guilty for indulging. Those fries smell amazing. But frankly I’m just relieved I think so cuz that is the opposite of nausea. Check in Bypassers! ONWARD!

    Chicken Gyros?

I would ask if they make the sauce (if not ask if they will tell you the calories listed on the container). If they do make it ask whether it's made with low fat yogurt. Full fat Greek Yogurt has has much fat calories as ice cream. Trader Joe's was giving samples of their full fat French vanilla Greek yogurt. I said to myself this tastes like melted ice cream. Well when I read the container it had the same calories! Also often the meat in the Gyros are a mixture of ground up meats. May not really be that healthy. Most Greek places will have chicken Kabobs, I would probably say that would be a MUCH better option.
  17. It gets better. Try shrimp. My sleeve loves shrimp. Tuna salad, seafood salad, chicken salad all made "wet". Scrambled eggs with cheese. Ricotta with 1 or 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce with a layer of shredded mozzarella warmed in the microwave. Cottage cheese with salad dressing Hummus Cheese sticks. Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt. Ham and cheese roll ups. Keep trying new things. I eat something protein every 3 to 4 hours. Not much but enough for fuel. I eat to live not live to eat. Good luck.
  18. Hey Groove, I bought the giant pills accidently and have put off taking them until now. I know I need to be more vigilant in taking my vitamins because I have not taken them since surgery, which was on 3/1/11. I took them today by breaking them in half. They did go down, but not as easy as I would like. So I plan on crushing them and adding them to my drink or some yogurt or maybe breaking them into more than 2 pieces. Give it a try, I think it would be better than taking the carbonate.

    August sleevers up dates. ..?

Surgery was 8/28. Down 17 pounds so far. Having awful time with nausea and heartburn can't eat or drink anything with a water base needs to be milk so only creamy soups puddings and yogurts
  20. I grew rather fond of a couple oz. yogurt with just a bit of peanut butter stirred in, as a little protein upgrade, as I was not getting my protein load at the time.

Two years out, completely off track....

I'm getting ready to walk in Making Strides cancer 5k in about 30 min! Burn those calories and I had 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast about 7 am and I just finish this Apple Pie Greek yogurt snack that has 12g protein, 9g carbs, and 80 calories! Pretty decent and I might add a touch of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice if I was at home but this is a great portable snack for me! Taking a bottle of water and heading out soon.

    January Sleevers ❄️

I was sleeved 1/5 and had my first follow up with surgeon on 1/21. I am down 22 lbs! I don't have a scale at home so will not weigh again until I see him next month. I will be starting soft/puree foods, Monday ,when I will be three weeks out. I am so looking forward to anything other than the mashed potato, cream based Soup and yogurt that I am currently eating along with my Protein shake. Still not meeting my protein/fluid requirements but it's getting easier everyday.

    January Sleevers ❄️

I was wondering the same thing. Even the preop diet some doctors allowed you to have some calories, I was on all liquid for 12 days. But I only had to do two days of liquid after surgery. Now I can have cream of wheat, yogurt, and creamy soup and protein shake. Maybe it does depend on the individual person.

    November 2015 Sleevers?

Thanks, @@bsilva! I definitely feel much better. I have a good distance left to go, but everything is already so much easier. Being 500+ lbs involves a lot of planning! It isn't much fun worry about things like can I park close enough to where I need to go?, how early do I have to leave for a meeting so as to not arrive sweaty and out of breath? I count Protein, carbs, fat, and calories using an iPhone app (mynetdiary). I am sufficiently nerdy that I like generating the charts of the nutrients that I take in and the pounds that I lose. I initially had trouble getting enough protein and staying within the calorie bounds. That is the place where using shakes as a supplement has been helpful for me. I start the day with one and then follow with a fat-free Greek yogurt a little bit later. That gets me to 42 g of protein pretty early in the day. From there, I try to eat something that gets me 20 g of protein for each of lunch and dinner. A second shake or a high-protein snack gets me close to 100 g protein goal. Honestly, I don't make it every day, but I never fall below 80 g of protein.

    Beans & salad

I really just put them in at around 300 degrees and then just stir them around a few times until they seem dry. I am not a good cook so I guess I havent paid attention to the time! I bought an edamame dip the other day that I really liked and will prob try making myself (beans in the food processor and some greek yogurt and spices?)I really dont use mayo anymore and I have never liked the reduced fat or cal versions of mayo so I just use the yog! I bet you could bake the edamame beans the same way...hmmmm Oh I also use hummus to mix into canned tuna instead of mayo...I really like the red pepper flavor!
