Soft food suggestions for work
Daisee68 replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to the above, I ate a lot of fat free refried Beans with a little cheese melted on top (and a little spice added). I also ate hummus (yes just with a spoon) and pimiento cheese. Oh and I also ate Laughing Cow cheese wedges. Also at that stage, I was still having at least 2 shakes per day (Premier Protein ready to drink shakes were super easy to carry). Oh and another thing - I would eat 1/2 a container of greek yogurt (Danon Light & Fit Greek Key Lime or strawberry Cheesecake were and still are my favorites) and mix it with 1/2 scoop of vanilla Protein powder to get higher protein. I would also do a container of sugar free fat free dark chocolate pudding snack with 1/2 scoop of chocolate protein powder. The protein powder I use is Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate it tastes great! -

That's always a plus! If you want yogurt- try the Oikos Greek Triple zero. ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1473558455.382744.jpg I use the Danon Light and Fit- post op bypass here ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1473558622.248461.jpg And you don't need a whole container of you're eating with other things. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'll try that, thank you Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App -
Soft food suggestions for work
Valentina replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember that anything you can crockpot, you can eat during the soft stage. Take left overs to work the next day. Sometimes you should strain the crockpot creation if it's too "lumpy" for your eating stage. How about tuna salad in a tomato---if you can have the tomato. Every plan is different... cottage cheese Soups greek yogurt pack of hot cereal---once again, if allowed egg salad/egg drop soup pate' I always thought that the soft stage was "fun" because it lets us use our imagination. Let it go! Think outside the box! Go for it!!!! Happy exploring. -
Soft food suggestions for work
Inner Surfer Girl replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't working during my soft food stage, but I ate a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, turkey, etc. You could also take things that you had during your liquid phases: soup, protein shakes, etc. -
I get very hungry unless I continually graze on protein foods--cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese strings, etc.
-
They reloaded the snack machine at my office, with THREE ROWS of jumbo honey buns. Am *SO* grateful for my sleeve and the loss of the cravings for that stuff. Part of my brain still responds, but the other part doesn't think that sounds as good as my key lime greek yogurt. LOL
-
I'm not a big fan of pumpkin spice, actually. LOL I'm waiting for Starbucks to put the Christmas menu out because I'm all about the peppermint mocha - though I'll have to see if they can make that skinny now. LOL.
-
HA! I am not a fan of pumpkin spice either. But I do love my yoga pants. And I hate honey buns. My youngest works at Panera after school and brings home pastries a few times a week. If I was a sweets lover, I'd change the locks.
Starbucks has a new Mexican hot chocolate with or without espresso that I can't wait to try.

1.5 years post op-- weight loss stopped
Kiba replied to Kiba's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do have to supplement with Protein Bars. The rest of my protein comes from meat, cheese, nuts, and yogurt. Back in my weight loss phase, my daily intake looked something like this: Breakfast: Protein Bar (~20 grams) Morning Snack: String Cheese (~8 grams) Lunch: Meat of some sort, usually leftovers (~16-20 grams) Afternoon Snack: Greek Yogurt (~12 grams) Dinner: Meat (~16-20 grams) Evening Snack: Protein Bar (~20 grams) For the "meat" mentioned above, it was always the protein portion of whatever my husband made for dinner (I was married back then). So if he made meatloaf and mashed potatoes, I just had meatloaf. Shrimp and Pasta, I had the shrimp. chicken and rice, I had the chicken. You get the idea. Awesome information, thanks JamieLogical! -

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share my story with you. I just turned 31 years old, have been big since my teens. Have a lot of weight and body image issues (thanks Mom) ????. At my heaviest, I was about 104kg or 229 lbs. I'm 5'5, have knee problems and polycystic ovaries, depression - the works. Managed to lose some weight by going to the gym and watching what I ate but I was yo-yo-ing between 97-95kg I was at 97kg (213 lbs) when I decided I didn't want to be big anymore. I did the Spatz gastric balloon first which didn't really work out for me, so 6 months with the balloon and I decided to go for a more permanent option. I was sleeved August 30, 2016, a month after removing the balloon, my weight at 92kg (202 lbs) I lost 2 kg after the balloon was removed which was pretty ironic ???? then I gained it back a week before surgery because my doctor told me I didn't need to do a pre-diet so I ate everything I thought I wasn't going to be able to eat post vsg. The first week was horrible because Soup and liquids are boring, but I wasn't throwing up like with the balloon, for which I was really grateful. It's my 2nd week today, my doctor gave me the go ahead last week to start eating soft food. Yogurts, soft cheeses, gradually moving on to steamed fish and chicken. I'm able to eat almost normal food now, but I stay away from red meat, carbs and sugar. I'm 86.6kg (190 lbs) now and I'm feeling quite happy. Although there are times when I kinda feel sad because I have to choose between Proteins and a donut, overall I think I made the right choice for my health and well being, not to mention my self-esteem. Thanks for reading, and I'll post progress pics once I find a pre-surgery full body of myself (I forgot to take one before the procedure)

A weight plateau after 3 weeks?
JlainottawaSleeve posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my sleeve surgery done on August 22nd. I feel great but I haven't lost one pound in the last 12 days! I eat fat free Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken mixed with hummus in my food processor and I walk 45 minutes everyday. How is it possible that I've not lost any weight at all in 12 days? What's going on? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Halfway through pre-op liquid diet-some thoughts.
Butch Luce posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is the 7th day of my pre-op liquid diet. Maybe my thoughts may help others. First, I'm proud to say I did not cheat. I was tempted a few times when I was around prepared food such as at a meeting I attended. Fortunately the meal was at the end of the meeting so I made an excuse and went home. Also, I did not go to Lions Club which has a buffet meal during the meeting. I followed my Drs. guidelines religiously. Generally I would have a Protein shake with almond milk or skim milk for Breakfast, then a half cup of Greek yogurt for a mid morning snack, then a premier Protein Shake and another half cup of yogurt at lunch, then drink an Isopure in the afternoon, 32 oz of cold Water in the late afternoon and early evening, then broth for supper. Supper was what I looked forward to all day because it was hot-my hot meal for the day. I alternated among chicken, vegetable, beef broth and then a couple of times had canned tomato Soup with powdered protein added. I usually did not add protein to the broths. I kept track of my "meals and snacks" and ranged from a low of 83 gr. Protein to a high of 164 gr. For calories I ranged from a low of 445 to a high of 978. I tried to hit 60-80gr. Protein and 700-900 calories/ day. I highly recommend keeping track of everything so you can compare meals/days. It has worked for me. As everyone says, the first 2-3 days are the toughest then I sort of got used to it and fell into a routine. Finally, I am retired so it is much easier for me to control things-I know it would be much more difficult if I were still working. Feel free to ask questions. Good luck! leese1978 replied to yasminesyz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post surgery and I am on a "full liquid" diet. So, all of the things in the clear liquid diet (broth, sugar free jello/Popsicles, Water, etc) but I am also allowed to add low sugar yogurt, strained fat free cream soups, applesauce... Hope this helps! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
If I didn't know better I would of think this was my post. I going through the exact same things. Surgery is tomorrow, one week liquid diet, 5 shakes, (but I can sub one shake for yogurt, pudding, creamy soap) I have been wanting a chicken SOOO bad this past week. Then I started craving things I don't like. Now it's Clear Liquids only I'm stuck eating or drinking I should say is only water and green jello. ( dr doesn't want me eating reds or purples) and I don't want broth because too much salt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

3rd day after surgery :) hello
Tami_Lynn replied to yasminesyz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning @@yasminesyz You should not have the apple juice as its loaded with sugar. They told me to stay away from dairy for at least two weeks after surgery and then slowly add it back to see how I tolerate it. The main thing you want to consume right now is your Protein drinks and your Water. You can also have sugar free Popsicle's, broth, and sugar free Jello. I was told to be on liquid for 7 days after surgery. Then added in low sugar greek yogurt... I am 5 weeks now and am still on soft foods. Hope this helps -
Bananas are NOT a low carb food
Clementine Sky replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've actually used bananas as a replacement for Desserts I ate in the past (rarely ever Oreos, but occasionally), but have them sparingly. For me the biggest benefit is that bananas are more filling and satisfying, whereas I could graze on processed Snacks and not reach the point of being full. For those who do like bananas, this "ice cream" is surprisingly good and simple to make: http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-creamy-ice-cream-with-just-one-ingredient-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-93414 During my active weight loss phase I had either Trader Joe's or Dole's chocolate covered bananas almost every night as my treat. If memory serves they have around 15 carbs per serving. It's not really low carb, but it's not outrageously high in carbs, either. It was just sweet enough to keep me from obsessively craving a brownie or some other indulgence that has thrice the carbs and calories. I think the list the OP provided of lower-carb fruits is definitely good to reference. I love, love, love carbs, and lower-carb fruit smoothies (made with high Protein Greek yogurt) have helped me to have a moderate amount so I'm happy with what I'm eating and happy with the number on the scale. Weight loss on a lower-carb but not strictly low carb diet has been much more sustainable for me. -
Slower weight loss second time around?
hbrhonda replied to PaulStephens1975's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
breakfast: one scrambled egg or 1/2 greek yogurt snack: low fat string cheese or protien granola bar lunch: 2 slices of lunch meat or 3 oz chicken breast or 3 oz fish snack: 1/2 apple or cheese or 5 grapes or Protein granola bar dinner: 3 oz fish or 3 oz steak or what ever I eat till I am full. Never more than 1/2 cup Also I drink 1 to 1 1/2 Premier Protein shakes through out the day, plus 40 oz of Water I walk 1 mile on the treadmill and do about 10 minutes of various weight machines at the gym daily. -
I'm not a vegetarian, but a huge portion of my Protein comes from non-meat sources, and I can barely tolerate eggs post-sleeve so they're not a consideration. I eat a lot of Beans, regular cheese, cottage and ricotta cheese, yogurt, quinoa and whey-based protein supplements. You'll be great at it!

Beans! So many assortments of Beans split pea is my favorite. You can have Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese too right? I talked to my dietician about all the beans I'd rather eat than meats. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just went shopping. I live alone and don't love to cook so I've been on the lookout for a lot of healthy, clean looking pre-cooked lean Proteins. The easier it is to grab something, portion it out and eat it the less likely I am to make stupid choices. And at 9 weeks out stupid choices more than likely means not eating anything for an entire day or only eating cheese. So here's the lazy single persons list for ya: Fage yogurt Pre cooked Applegate farms grilled chicken breast, plain and fajita flavor Atkins ranch frozen lamb patties (only ingredient is ground lamb, salt and pepper) BratHans chicken burgers (these are quickly becoming a favorite...microwave them for 1 minute) Individually packed 4% Cottage cheese Cold brew coffee Cabot seriously sharp cheese Snacks Babybel cheese Fairlife milk (has extra protein) Electrolyte enhanced Water Saucy Fish Co lime & cilantro pre cooked salmon fillets Turkey perky Jerky And some brie cheese because I'm a sucker for it All of that will last me over 2 weeks pretty much. I also got some pineapple and strawberry today because I want to try and work small amounts of fruit into my daily diet. Total cost today was like $113.

Is a protein bar safe 2.5 months out?
KristenLe replied to fsulady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just need to be careful with certain protein bars - many have added sugars. How about cheese, greek yogurt, adding protein powder to liquids or food, etc. -
I have the same surgery date! My grocery shopping issue is that my tastes keep changing, it's hard to keep up with it! But for now I've been buying lots of greek yogurt, slivered almonds (to put in the yogurt), cheese sticks. make it a great day

Greek yogurt! Protein bar! Decaf iced coffee Protein shake make it a great day -
As said above don't get caught up on the #'s because it is phenomenal that you've lost so quickly. I had my surgery 6/30 and am down 37 lbs. in that short time I've gone down 3 sizes and can wear clothes I haven't fit into in years. I'm running down my stairs, and can hop out of bed. I'm off all meds except thyroid meds. My joints don't grind, and I know it can only get better from here. food wise, you soon will be cleared to eat whatever you can tolerate. After my doctor said those words I realized he said it for a reason. I asked him if I could eat salads again. He said; yes if you can tolerate it. So far when I go out to eat I order things I love, and eat the Protein first. And find Some things I always enjoyed are flat. Or make me nauseous. No fun it because you eat so little. New things give me my ahh moments. I can't handle ice cream. So I make mini parfait's with yogurt and berries and diced banana. I've spent my whole life fighting obesity. 50 years on this ride is too long. And now I know this is going to work for me. A very small price to pay for these results. Proud of myself for doing this, not in the least bit sorry! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
