    Food ideas?!

I'm 4 months post op but I can only eat about 42-56 grams of meat or fish protein before I feel too full. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt because it's easier for me to get down.

    REGRETS

Surgeon keeps saying that its normal and will pass as time moves on. He is really not helpful at all.. im so lost Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App I also had my surgery in August and haven't had the experience that you have had with not being able to eat for a prolonged period but recently I did have a day that started with me vomiting all morning and resulted in my developing an aversion to Protein shakes, Protein powder, and a certain type of multi-Vitamin. I wound up buying a variety of different high protein Greek yogurts and some protein water and just made myself eat what I could. I have found that if I don't eat enough protein, I get weak quickly. At one point, the Greek yogurt seemed too much, so I got some drinkable yogurt. If you are having difficulty eating due to pain caused by eating, your surgeon should address that because you could have a stricture. I sometimes have pain when I eat but it is usually when I have tried something new that takes up more space in my stomach than I thought it would. Have you had success with any foods since surgery?

    Nervous about upcoming surgery

@@Asm0108 I wasn't allowed fruits and veggies for a pretty significant amount of time after surgery, so my fiber early on came from things like beans and lentils as well as fiber powder and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. Since you have issues with diverticulitis, you may want to discuss your specific needs with your bariatric team so you can come up with a good plan to deal with it.

    Protein shots?

I have used them, I am not picky about flavor. I mean it is a shot, just do it. They are called new whey I believe. They are a mix of three types of protein, collogen as mentioned, whey, and I cannot remember the third. You know that your body cannot take in more than 30grams of protein at once, so no matter how much protein is in the shots, you 't all of it. Good news is they make another one that is a 28 gram shot and cheaper. They are strangely thick if you refrigerate them, which might make some dislike them. Search the internet you can find a case of 12 of them for under $24 I believe vitashoppe of something like that, then search the sites name and coupon, most of the time you will find free shipping, or 10 percent off for most sites. My doctor says they are ok in a pinch but certainly there are better sources of protein. He. question how much you might be able to use of the protein in them, he said figure about 18grams for a shot. They have 180 calories. I make a gallon of Walmart apple drink (2 bucks for 6 packets, 2 to a gallon) then I add Nector apple protein, 4 scoops, fill 4 empty G2 bottles, place in frig. I sip all day on them, 2 is 64 ozs of water, check, and 50 grams of protein. Have some greek yogurt, cottage cheese and you are there! I flavorless protein, add it to cottage cheese, or decaf coffee iced
  5. I just got approved for yogurt. I found Stiggi's Icelandic skyr at my local Giant Eagle. 0% milk fat, 11g sugar, 16g Protein, at 120 cal. It's good. Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App

    Grocery List Suggestions?

Half of the contents of my refrigerator is cheese or yogurt. About 1/4 is leftovers and the rest is condiments and pickles.
  9. When I was three months out, I was still on soft foods (have to be able to cut easily with a fork), and ate according to the directions from my bariatric team: --3 small meals per day --no grains, starchy veggies, sweets, tropical fruits, or liquid calories other than Protein shakes --minimum of 75 grams of protein per day --no Snacks other than Protein Shakes So that basically meant lots of: meat, fish (especially tuna, salmon, sardine, shrimp, scallops, mackerel), eggs (every day!), avocado, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, lentils, small amounts of nut butters. Those were the mainstays of my diet. After six months I was allowed regular texture foods and added in green veggies such as asparagus, green beans, and broccoli, as well as some fruit like apples and strawberries. I still had the same dietary restrictions in terms of no grains, starchy veggies, sweets, liquid calories etc. until I completed weight loss phase. I stuck with the program and finished up 200 lbs lighter and at goal, so I think the plan my team gave me worked well for me

    Hi, just sleeved!

Yay congrats! I had surgery on Monday, too! Like everyone said, plans differ but I have tried Greek yogurt, ricotta cheese, pudding, Italian ice..just make sure you have everything low/nonfat and no sugar. It is pretty scary that you go home not knowing what to eat. A nurse and the nutritionist from my program called today to see how I'm doing and what I'm eating/drinking. Almost 1 Year Surgiversary

Congratulations on you success! Great job! Don't know if this will help, but this past week I discovered something that helped me. I ran out of yogurt and have just been eating the other foods I normally eat which don't contain sugar and are very low carb. Even though I was loosing a pound or two every week or two, I lost 3 lbs between Monday and Friday! My hunger was definitely less. I believe that just a small amount of sugar makes a difference for me and I'm guessing others are as sensitive also. Also, given your current exercise routine, you might make sure you are getting enough calories spread out throughout the day. I also know dense Protein fills me up for longer a longer period. So I keep snack size baggies in the freezer of cooked ground chicken/turkey with a little veggies and Beans mixed in. I make it every 2 or 3 weeks, then take for lunch and add a little cheese. Best of luck to you

4 days post op and I'm worried

Same here. Two weeks out. No issues w getting everything in - protein, yogurt, soup. Started feeling like surgeon messed up and made my pouch too big! Everyone says liquids go right through and that nerves are healing, so sense of fullness isn't there. I was (am) worried about drinking shakes too fast, so I decided to try to take 45 min to drink it and measure out everything else. I wish they covered these possibilities in pre surgery classes. Preparing

I loaded up thinking I would be housebound and recuperating when I was out of the house driving to the store two days later. I threw away so much, the protein powders that expired. What I now realize is that you should keep the basics, shakes, puddings, jello, yogurts, bouillon, FF creamed soups, crystal Light, SF Torani syrups, Cream of Wheat. I wasted so much money. I bought the Unjury soups that clumped when hot and they went in the trash. They are only good lukewarm. I think my homemade chili was the most wonderful soft food I ever tasted when I reached that stage.

    Hi, just sleeved!

My surgery was 9/2 and yogurts were fine as long as they had 7 grams of sugar or less. Chobani simply 100 is a good one or Oikos zeros. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Hi, just sleeved!

You need to ask your Team about what you can/can't have. On my plan - yogurt would not be allowed at only 4 days post-op. Protein shakes and Clear liquids only. Everyone's plan is different though - so check to see what you are allowed.

    Hi, just sleeved!

    When did you start purée?

Purees and other soft type proteins (eggs, yogurt, etc.) in the hospital and beyond for the first month. I ignored the pureed lettuce (ewwww..) they served there.
  24. NPR, Don't give up! I am 8 days post surgery and I am just now feeling better. Remember to keep hydrated. I used a medicine cup to keep sipping Water. My stomach pain was worsened by takingmedicine. Try a few tablespoon on applesauce or yogurt before you take your medicine. You may need to take a daily acid reducer, as well. I used a heating pad constantly and slept on my side. My doctor also prescribed an anxiety pill (Lorazepram) for me. It helped me to sleep. I also took hot baths to relax. I think you will feel better when you eat more. That made my weakness and back pain subside. Best of luck! kate3boys

    Now What?

Hayley, It really has been surprisingly easy for me. I don't know that I am the best to ask for eating advice, but I'll give you all the help I can. First off, I really have no idea what the size of my band is and how much I have in it. I can't remember if they've ever told me. So here is a typical day for me. I almost always have a Protein shake for Breakfast. Occasionally I will have an egg or greek yogurt. lunch is usually protein and maybe some fruit/veggies. I eat tuna and chicken salad a lot. Just about a 1/2 cup and then a little bit of fruit or veggies with that. If I get hungry I will snack on almonds or a Protein Bar. dinner is usually my biggest meal and I try to eat the same as my family, except smaller portions and I usually leave out the carb side dishes. However, I can eat a small portion, if I feel like it. It also depends on the day, as far as how much I eat and what I can eat without problems. There are some days I can eat a cup or more without any problems. Other days I get "stuck" after just a few bites. I try to eat slow and listen to my body when it's full. Does that help? I also exercise 3-4 days a week. Both moderate intensity cardio and resistance training. That helps!
