Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
Frustr8 replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hiya folks. It has been a week and 10 hours. since my RnY bypass and things are not rosy in bypass-ville anymore than in sleeve-town. I have had some, nice advances as well,as some not so good.Rather a mixed bag, but then isn't Life Always? Let's,start with better ones Visited my surgeon yesterday He removed my steri strips, although I had thought since,i was, doing so magnificently good he had just traced the lines on my skin to fool me, there is at least I suture down in each one. I have,6 different incisions/ trocar wounds. A small one between my,breasts , at,the bottom of my sternum. One the right we have a medium and a slightly larger one, on the left 2 medium and one at the top inner surface of my navel . Now I know why, they, told me to scrub my navel very well. Aside of my stomach, muscles feeling very very tired, no pain, really truly. He used the top of my navel, I think, because I have a tubal ligation scar in the bottom. And I do not feel the mental revulsion toward myself after my bypass I did then. if you want the back story,on that sometime, just ask, okay? I was advanced at 6 days to Stage 3, he said my healing et al justified it , so Hurray for ME, although the calorie count does not raise signifantly the diversity, will be nice. Now the bad things if I may I now have pain, especially in Right biggest. I am not sure if the removal of the steri strips and the swoosh of air hitting them? I cannot blame my Dr Needlman, he has very gentle hands and I know he would not, willingly, cause me pain. The reason in was there early? Well I rather expected,a little bruising around the 6 air vents, what i did not expect was what happened. Sunday afternoon while peacefully baseball watching I noticed an amount of bruising under the left, subcostal area. Hmmn Odd I said to myself, but by that evening like a purple veil bruising was marching across my abdomen. I am not,the late Prince, I do not require everything purple, and although it was not really painful , it to me looked distended, every stretch Mark on that side looked swollen and almost back-up. I have a lot of stretch marks, 3 9 and over babies, none of which, laid in my uterus the same directions. Individuals even prenatally. To,me, it looked swollen and warm to the touch, my regular temp was still,ok, blood pressure fine, I have my own, electronic cuff . I laid on my bed or on the couch and watched the progression. Oddly around each of the 6 incisions was a white border,of normality. Joann , the aftercare nursing coordinator called to check on me, they do that at least 3 times your post-surg week after. Isn't that cool of OSU? When I told her about that , she said that is not usual, bruising yes, weird progress no. Let me talk with the resident on duty, and I'll get back to,you in the morning. 10-15 minutes later she called back and said Dr Needleman wants,to see,you in his office at 1 pm Tuesday, can you make it? Remember I live 48 miles from there ,not like I can catch a cross-town 🚌 bus. Luckily I did find transport. In the meantime do not administer your 8pm or 8am Lovenox in case it could be worsening the condition. Over and back would have, been fine but we had to be picked up early because of another person. Her appointment was in Reynoldsburg, east, almost to the next county'-line, mine was on the near north side of Columbus proper so a lot more automobile bouncing than I was planning on.. Well Dr Needleman gently palpate and prodded my left side, I was a good girl, I resisted the urge to knee him in the groin although that knee did twitch a little. He admitted he never had one like that before, hey I know I'm wonderful and I'm special but no one wants to be that special! I can Now go back to my Lovenox shots, which I have a real facility for. Hmmn an Retirement New Business? Card could read. Frustr8---Lovenox Injector---Extraordine Grade. I am to watch for a renewed wave of purple across the old TumTum, otherwise he thinks I'll be fine The bottom bad line-- that 3rd day sorrowful,OmG why Did I do This waited until today to raise its ugly hydra-headed self. Today I have the pain I should had post and 1st day, especially in the largest right side wound, I know, sleevers left side one is largest because that's where the remnant stomach is pulled out, maybe ours is one the right because that's where the big business guns go in? But,sh** it do hurt. And with the other stressors in my life, it felt like Hector my itty bitty, gastric ulcer was waking up from his chemical slumber. See,they downgraded me from Dexilant which worked to Prilosec which really, don't. Their rational, you can open up Prilosec and sprinkle it on your foods, Dexilant capsules don't come apart, NBT I'd be willing to cut them open instead. My landlord has turned malevolent, his wife wants to sell the house out from under,me. and I do,not have the funds necessary for purchase, he wants to take me to court,on the 24th And try to evict,me. And he scheduled it all for now knowing of my surgery date, told him the exact date as soon as I knew. I was about throw something against the wall, find some soft warm slider food Like a batch of mashed potaies, stick my spoon in until Precious Pouch rebelled and I barfed. See,i can talk the talk but today I was having much trouble walking the walk! Then Joann called, almost, like she was psychic, because I was descending to an emotional low point. We had a good chat and we,may have, uncovered a problem. # One has been okay but #2 has been non-existent. I might have had 1 late the 3rd or early the 4th, but nothing since. Well I did pass 1 walnut fece during a bathroom trip,to expell ⛽gas. And I have been faithfully downing a Miralax packet in my fluids, usually Propel or another no cal water daily. NADA So today 2 packets of Miralax, and if no results My Cherry MOM at,bedtime. I said maybe its because I really haven't been eating solids? Nope, if I didn't have hard formed stool,i should be passing smooth squishy ones. Why did I not tell her on Monday? IDK I just figured it was NBD. And her highly trained Nurse Practitioner Assesment, I am full of something and it ain't Sunshine and Starlight. So we shall see, what "passes" both literally and figuratively. And on Friday she hopes to hear good updates, said it also could explain some of my,left side distended state.Oh💩 fairy ---Where Are You? -
Thanks ❤️ I am just real, real tired of being judged, being a fat person in a society that hates fat people, I guess. I fight fat stigma where I can--though I mostly don't bother here on bariatric surgery boards, for obvious reasons. But it's exhausting, so I pick my battles. I often avoid behaviors that'll draw attention to myself, unless I'm ready for a fight. At six months, I should be down ~60% of my excess weight (on average, or so my surgeon's PA tells me), and I know from (distant past) experience that I'm super comfortable living in the world at that weight--I don't feel like I'm at risk of being judged all the time. So, I mean, it's an arbitrary date, nothing written in stone. I'm honestly pretty comfortable at 30 pounds above that weight, so it may not even be that long? I guess there's also the whole "hey, I will probably have built some good habits and also learned how my new stomach works" thing, right? I have this vague idea that maybe I'll be drawn to healthier menu items after six months of semi-scrupulous healthy eating--or at least that I'll have further strengthened my "choose the healthy thing" muscles. And also I don't ever want to throw up in a restaurant if it can be avoided. So I'll do all the error testing at home. 😁 Which might mean we get Indian delivered, as a test run, and/or we get take-out from the sushi place nearby. I'm not planning a life of hardship, I promise. 😉

We're excited to announce that we now carry Premium Abdominal Binders for Bariatric and Plastic Surgery at the BariatricPal Store. This tummy support has numerous features that make it both a great and affordable option to buy after a bariatric surgery. Comfortable and lightweight design This tummy tuck binder is a premium latex-free knit elastic band, with super soft lining for extended wear and comfort. Making it extremely comfortable to wear against your skin. The medical binder for weight loss is also low-profile, allowing you to wear it discreetly beneath or over your shirt and clothes, depending on your preference. It has three (9”) individual panels designed for best patient fit. It also comes in a neutral white color. Designed specifically for those considered suffering from obesity This plus size abdominal belt comes in sizes ranging from Small all the way up to XXL, fitting body circumferences from 30" to 94". This size variety helps individuals find the best fit for their body shape and size! The many different options also make it easy to order a smaller size once you’ve lost the extra weight in your stomach after your surgery. Easy application To secure the brace, you simply attach the Velcro closures in front of your abdomen to your desired compression level. For those suffering from arthritis, these straps are easy to grab and apply. Stitching on the back prevents rolling The stitching located on the back of the brace helps prevent it from rolling over or bunching up. Great after a wide variety of surgeries This tummy binder for bariatric and plastic surgery procedures can be worn after liposuction, gastric bypass surgery, gastric sleeve surgery, lap band surgery, and many other weight loss procedures. You can also wear this binder for abdominal strains or lower back pain related to obesity. How Does This Abdominal Binder After Weight Loss Surgery Help Me Recover From… Gastric Bypass Surgery? Gastric bypass today remains a very popular surgical option for weight loss. Gastric bypass surgery basically shrinks and slims down the size of your stomach, which in turn helps control the amount of food you intake daily. It also helps bypass part of your digestive tract, lowering the absorption of food. Wearing a stomach binder after gastric bypass surgery has many benefits such as improving circulation in your abdominal region, hold your sagging skin and tissues in place, and promote good posture, limiting the stress placed on your stomach. Gastric Sleeve Surgery? Gastric sleeve surgery involves removing part of your stomach, leaving only a portion of the top of your stomach. An abdominal girdle after gastric sleeve surgery is beneficial as it helps reduce edema (or swelling) while also helping the scar tissue form properly. Compression garments after gastric sleeve support your stomach muscles while you are recovering and trying to get back to normal. A Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty Recovery? Receiving a tummy tuck, otherwise known as abdominoplasty surgery helps remove the extra fat and skin you’re carrying around. This surgical procedure also helps smooth out your muscles, making them tougher and stronger. There are many individuals that receive this procedure, for example, women who have had a baby or after birth, those who have lost an extreme amount of weight causing your stomach to sag or hang after being obese, or after a hysterectomy. Wearing a woman tummy tuck binder is a great tool to help your recovery process! Applying compression to your abdomen will help promote healing and reduce the swelling that you’ll experience after your surgery. This tummy tuck compression garment will also help prevent fluid from accumulating in your incision site, reducing the chance of infection. Liposuction Recovery? (Love Handle Removal) Liposuction is another common procedure to help obese men and women lose weight. This procedure removes excess fat using a suction mechanism. Your doctor will suction around your stomach in the regions that have the fattest deposits and get rid of them. Liposuction helps reshape your body and help those problem areas. A liposuction bandage assists an individual throughout the recovery and healing process. Applying a liposuction binder post procedure helps with the swelling, discomfort, and bruising that occurs. Typically, you should wear this compression bandage for a few weeks after your procedure, depending on your condition and how your body responded to liposuction. Frequently Asked Questions What conditions does this abdominal belt treat? This abdominal wrap can be worn to help support your abdomen after liposuction, gastric bypass, abdominoplasty, panniculectomy, tummy tuck, love handle removal, lap band surgery, belly lifts, gastric sleeve, and other obesity-related waist surgeries. How do I know which size to get? Using a fabric tape measure, measure the circumference around the widest part of your body where you plan to wear this binder. This extra-wide binder fits body circumference of 32” up to 100”. Refer to the sizing chart. How do I put on the brace? Unfold the binder and lay it flat to identify the top and bottom of the brace, the bottom side is slightly wider. Position the binder behind your body, making sure the Velcro strip is facing inward. Fold in the side without Velcro. Wrap the other side of the corset around your body and secure the Velcro closure. Re-adjust as needed for comfort. What is the height of the belt? This binder is 9” tall. Can I wash the brace? Yes, hand wash the belt in warm water with mild soap. Do not bleach. Lay flat to air-dry. Do not use high temperatures to wash or dry. -
Yes, my surgeon did the stitch that is supposed to minimize the risk of bile reflux after MGB. I had bariatric surgery in April 2017 and started experiencing bile reflux in December 2017, which was confirmed with an EGD endoscopy.

I have been combating hair loss for about six months. Even contemplating baldness or wig if I could not put the brakes on the hair loss. Lucky for me I started with thick hair that needed thinning out once in a while. I have been using Sanar Naturals Collagen Wrinkle Formula, biotin pill, biotin shampoo and biotin conditioner. I take all my bariatric vitamins and drink plenty of water and eat more protein whenever I can. My hairloss is slowing down as I close in on my goal. I would not look half as good as you do with my misshapen head. Congratulations!

I weigh myselff naked first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom. I always follow this routine so my scale results aren’t skewed by other factors such as weight of clothes, time of day, or how much I eat or drink before getting on the scale. I also find that if I don’t have a bowel movement or have been constipated for a day or more that the scale may go up or not move. I find walking everyday helps keep me regular, which helps my weight on the scale. Remember: post-bariatric surgery weight loss is a marathon not a sprint. Good luck and keep the faith.

Last night my Bariatric group had an award ceremony to honor all the patients, families and the team. We listened to the stories of a lot of people, cried a ton and even my mild manned meek surgeon spoke (rare, very rare) I was too nervous to get up and speak this year, my first event, but next year I will. So I'll leave my story of appreciation here. Please leave yours also. Jan '17 started having A LOT of vision issues, basically going blind, big problem for an artist/photographer/human. Went to Opthalmologist and she saw extreme swelling on optic nerve, sent me to ER, confirmed somewhat rare neurological condition that would require meds , 3 neurosurgeries and weight loss. Couldn't believe it I was healthy obese lol, vegan etc. Just lost 30lbs on my own, Fooling myself... At my wits end and after 3 different neurosurgeon consults I was not confident I would be any better after brain surgery. I cried alot & I decided weight loss because what's the since in still risking developing more issues later, but they stressed that it had to be alot and fast. Lightbulb. Same day, same day went to info session for my surgeon. Decided that day to do it. Dr. Mehul Trivedi. Told him my story, he told me his, said it could be done, did it before. He was right. I'm not totally fine, probably will never be, my fault, staying so heavy for so long, cautionary tale, but I don't think I'll get worse. I'm so thankful to the Creator for the advancements in modern medicine and those who can execute it properly. This practice won a 2018 Women's choice award, they make you feel like family, you'll see the PA, Tyler (increadibly amazing) and NUT, Beth (absolutely amazing) more than the surgeon but that's because he's Always in surgery. I'm cool with that. The first time I saw the Mona Lisa it was on a "farewell to my sight tour" the last time it was "I'll see you again". Grateful.

Food Before and After Photos

Went to awards dinner for my bariatric group, very cool, and they prepared a dinner. This is cold leftovers because it was so good I had to take it home. Sweet and sour chicken, curried cauliflower, roasted brussel sprouts, there was more but I can't remember lol. The best part is that the surgeon, dietician, nutritionist and hospital chef planned the menu for bariatric patients, that mean I didn't have to worry about ANYTHING... sigh. No wonder why the won a women's choice award this year. My pic does it no justice, I will eat this for the next two days, idc. -
Large-capacity pouch 6 weeks post op
FluffyChix replied to gr8ful1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh, I also read somewhere about a study that found almost no correlation between pouch size and weight loss success after bariatric surgery. So consider your bigger pouch a gift! :-) Yes, I believe the study showed no correlation up to being able to eat 9oz maybe? I can't remember if that's by volume or weight? I can eat 9oz of volume. LOL. I can eat probably 12oz by volume. :crap: -

gr8ful1 replied to gr8ful1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well, the dietary instructions from the bariatric practice say that, after 7 weeks, bypass patients should be eating around 1/2 cup per meal while sleeve patients should be eating around 2/3 cup per meal. I assumed that meant that sleeves generally have more capacity than pouches. -

So I can eat much more than the "around a half-cup of solid food" that I was told I could at this point in my post-op journey. Not that I try to each and every time, but I noticed that I was not cognizant of any signs of fullness after eating the obligatory half cup of food per meal. I wanted to have an idea of the real capacity of my "egg-sized" pouch, as well as get an idea of my body's signs of fullness and how to recognize them. I was able to eat a full cup of meat sauce (mostly meat which was ground beef). I didn't feel any fuller at one cup that I feel at a half cup. For my next meal, I could eat an entire 500-calorie slice of lasagna. Again, no sensation of discomfort, fullness, hiccups, sneezing, flushing, or any of the other commonly-mentioned "bariatric fullness" signs. I did *not* test the capacity of my pouch. I stopped at a cup. But I expected to find my limit at somewhere between 1/2 and one cup. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't doubt that my surgery is working well for me, and I am satisfied with half a cup of food, but I'm a bit concerned that I can eat much larger meals than I was led to believe I would be able to eat. I wonder if the surgeon sleeved me instead of bypassing me. I also have some acid reflux again now. He assured me that I received the bypass, however. Please note that this question regards RNY gastric bypass only. I am looking for feedback from gastric bypass patients, not gastric sleeve patients. Thanks!

How old were you when?
ellie123 replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a Bariatric trilogy: Band at 29 years, did not loose much and regained. Sleeve at 37year, lost 70 and over 3 years regained it all. 3 weeks ago at 40 I revised to RNY. Very hopeful this will be forever. -
Interesting. I was told I needed / should be on vitamins for at least 6 months post surgery. I currently use from the BP store, Bariatric Multivitamins chewable citrus and orange calcium. I was told I could now go to traditional vitamins but would need to take at least 2 a day. I prefer 1-a day hence I'll stick out the chewable kind.

I didn't tell anyone that I was having surgery or even thinking about it. I live in Canada so our process is different. We can't just walk into a surgeons office and say I want such a d such surgery how much is it. All of our surgeries (unless cosmetic) are covered by our healthcare/government. So you need to be referred ect. Anyway, when I started the process I didn't tell anyone. I knew what i wanted and didn't want to deal with the drama and people thinking they could talk me out of doing it. So I asked my doctor to refer me to my local bariatric clinic. It took 18 months to get into the program. But was so worth the wait. Not only would they be doing the surgery but I had unlimited access to a psychologist, dietician, nurse, doctor, surgeon and other specialists. They taught me a lot, how to maintain weight, the healthy way of eating. What to expect before and after surgery...and so much more. It was 9 months after joining the clinic that I met with my surgeon and signed my consent forms for surgery. 2 months after that I started my epic long liquid diet. Just before I started my liquid diet is when I told close friends and family. As I would have to explain why I wasn't eating and only drinking shakes anyway. By then I think they thought it was to late to talk me out of it anyway as I had RNY bypass 4.5 months later. Now, however I tell people. If someone asks me how I've lost weight I tell them from portion and calorie control as well as having surgery to help me. Most are genuinely curious about the surgery. So I look at it as a chance to educate and squash so many of the misconceptions about having weight loss surgery. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

sassysleever76 replied to rs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m almost five weeks out and I’m having the first ‘down’ moments. I made a bariatric recipe for dinner and had the smallest portion and yet I puked it right up 🤮 I’m tired of not eating. I’m tired of chest pain. I’m tired of throwing up. I want coffee ☕️ I’m tired of not being able to chug water for heavens sake‼️ agh .... I think I’m pushing myself and just need to go back to the basics. I just want to be on the other side of this, but I know I have to do the work. 😭😭😭
