    How late is too late?

First, you are not a flunkie! Good job on maintaining your weight loss. But, it is NOT too late! As you know, your band is just a tool, and the hard work is up to you. You choose what you eat. You choose how much you exercise. You choose whether or not to get fills. All you have to do is make a choice! Choose to be healthier and continue down your weight loss journey with your band! I know I'm making it seem very simple, but ultimately, it really is. Find a doctor in your new area and schedule an appointment to get a fill. If you aren't already tracking your calories and exercise, start doing that (check out www.thedailyplate.com). Take some small steps so it doesn't seem so overwhelming all at once. Congratulations on your life changes...they sound like some good ones.

    How late is too late?

My name is Angela and I'm a Lap-Band flunkie. I got my band a little more than a year ago and started off well. However a lot of life changes happened very quickly (marriage, moving, career shifts etc) and I haven't made time for any adjustments! Now living in VA I have to find a dr and have a consultation about my first adjustment. I have been able to sustain about 30lbs of weight loss, but is it too late for me? Any advice / support would be appreciated.:cursing:
  3. Had my first fill June 17th and I could tell very little difference from before I got my fill. Could I be ready for another fill already? I haven't lost any weight since my fill. Also, what exactly does restriction feel like or will I just know? I can eat more than 4oz but try to limit myself to no more than 8oz per meal.

    Jan 20

I was also banded on march 20th. I haven't gotten a fill and don't want one at this time. I have good restriction... I eat 4oz of food at a time and stay full for between 3-4 hours. I don;t eliminate any food that I like, but have mostly stayed low carb. I have had pizza, and i don't feel guilty for anything i eat. I also am one of the lucky ones who doesn't have any problem with any foods (knock on wood). I think if u are hungry often and can eat bigger portions a fill will probably be the answer. my best friend got the band, and it took him two years to find his sweet spot. everyone is different. I think u really have to listen to what your body is telling u. how has the weight loss been for u all since surg?? at firat I was losing like crazy and now im down to about 1-3lbs a week. Love to hear from u all! amy

Sweet Cravings - What do you do?

If I have a craving and it won't go away after a day or two, I indulge it....but cautiously. I've found that if I don't, I eat too much of everything....rather than feed the craving and I'm fine. Weight Watchers makes great frozen Desserts and popsicle makes these sugar free fudge bar pops. But sometimes when I want crunch, I have those rice cakes that have caramel coating or cheese coating. If I just have to have it...I eat whatever. I had nachos and cheese dip last weekend- the real stuff.

    Something is Wrong

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on November 14, 2016. On my day of surgery, I weighed 334 and have lost a lot of weight. In February, I was rushed to the ER with a perforated intestine (hole) caused by a Marginal Ulcer near where my Roux limb attaches to my stomach pouch. I survived that ordeal, staying in the hospital for 5 days after nearly dying from sepsis. In mid-April, something changed...my "intestinal motility" slowed way down and my (sorry) poop practically turned to clay. I wound up back in the hospital during the 3rd week of April with a diagnosis of "Prostatitis" but my CT scans revealed my entire pelvis was inflamed. I was on strong antibiotics (liquid Bactrim) for six weeks and took probiotics to combat diarrhea. I had completed my course of antibiotics during the first week of June. Several weeks later, I still struggle with very slow intestines and my weight loss has plateaued for 3 months now. I am "hovering" between 251 and 247 and my size or shape hasn't changed in months. I am seeing my surgeon in a couple of days for a follow up, but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Has anyone else experienced such a long plateau? It is disheartening to think this could be the end of my weight loss. I feel like I could lose another 100 pounds...I know...that may not be realistic, but I feel like I haven't lost enough and my BMI is at just under 36...I started out with a BMI of 52. I feel like my stall is related to the slow down in my intestines...almost like my body decided it was going to try to absorb more from the food I was eating and hang on to more, preventing me from losing more weight. I am starting to feel helpless and depressed just writing about it. Ugh. I know that's not the intention of these forums, but I guess writing about it made me really express how I was feeling. Does anyone have any answers? Has anyone else been through this? I feel like I can't travel without stool softeners and Senna tea to try and keep me going.

    Starting my Journey

It was a while ago, so it's hard to remember everything. I saw the PA first who weighed me, took my history, and showed me a short video about the procedure. Then I met with the surgeon who told me how the procedure is done, how the band works, and what I can expect weight loss wise. After that I sat down with the surgical coordinator who gave me a list of pre testing that I had to do.
  8. Hi everyone. Just went for my 2 week post op appointment today and got my staples taken out. I had lapband surgery oct 3. i was so surprised to hear I have lost 28 lbs from 4 weeks of liquids. I now get to go to the mushies stage. I am afraid to try mushies as I dont want to gain anything back. Any ideas for me? I have my first fill on Nov13. I would love to hear from other oct bandsters!:clap2:

    Medications Post-Op?

I'm new to this forum but find it so very helpful reading so much about what I'm about experience. I am currently taking Lexapro for depression and Ativan for anxiety. I just wanted to see if anyone out there is also on anti-depressants/anxiety. These are pills need to be taken daily and I'm not sure how to deal with that while in the hospital and post-op. I would love to be able to get off of these as I truly think the weight is the cause of all my depression. So I'm hoping with WLS, I'll be in a better place mentally and will be able to get weaned off of them over time.

  12. My weight loss should start improving .. My incisions are finally healed and that means I can get in the pool. I will be waterwalking 2 nights a week. I would love to do more- but on the other nights the pool is just to crowded for Water walking. I have arthritis and have had a knee replaced , so I W.W. because it is so low impact. I am diabetic and it took extra long for incisions to heal.

    Water Walking

Hello Cruzlady, I've never heard of Water walking. Sounds like fun. Can't wait till my pool is warm again so I can add that to my exercise regimen. Maybe you can get yourself a couple of 5 lb weights and do some arm exercises as well. Best of luck to you, Donna
  14. Started journey beginning of last year at 235 in feb...May 20th surgery 205------then Sept 20th- I was 163 and have been there ever since- I can't lose any more weight- I really don't even feel like I was sleeved....I talked to my doctor pa and talked to nut and they both didn't seem like it was a problem......I told them I have to stop eating myself and that sometimes I can eat 6-8oz of chicken breast without a problem.....I only want to get to 135--- i am 5.3 but I have been bouncing back from 160-165 since sept usually at 163---I usually eat 1200 a day although I could eat more.....when I eat 800 or less I feel so fatigued.....I started drinking my protein shakes a day again usually one in am....so still getting 60 grams of protein a day...I still log all my food online and still haven't drank any soda since the beginning of the year or anything with sugar for that matter..........Not sure what my options are or if anyone has had this same problem...I almost lost as much weight before my surgery as I have after so kinda disapointed although I am thankful for this journey...Just trying to get pass this speed bump.....any advice is appreciated...thanks so much!

    1st fill but no result

Hi Fleur i have been banded for 6 months now and still not sure if i have hit that sweet spot as yet. It can take up to 4 or 5 fills for you to actually start feeling restriction. You will notice a difference once u get your next fill hopefully. Hang in there, be patient and dont get to disheartened as you are only on the beginning of your new journey. If your worried about gaining weight call your surgeon to book in for another fill. Goodluck and keep us posted:)

    I'm back....

Welcome to the Banded Gentry Rae! Great work on the weight loss, wow! Oh my gawd, I have to laugh because I don't think Tacoma has many trees at all! I remember what it was like around here when I was a little girl and feel like there are hardly any trees left! Heh, I spend 9 months a year in exile in your neck of the woods Rae, and I have to laugh and laugh. My DH and I took a drive through the Carriboo National Forest in SE ID and we were confused because we couldn't find a forest....

Anyone Bandsters who are also into CrossFit?

I just wondered if you're still here and if you're still CrossFitting... I have been doing CrossFit for about a year now - and when I eat the Paleo diet I lose some but since it's so restrictive I haven't been able to do it month after month. I'm way stronger and can do a lot more since starting Cross Fit but still feel so ridiculous being the "fat" crossfit girl and also know I'm not getting it's full benefits since I haven't lost a lot of weight so I'm finally doing this. I'm excited too. I just wondered how long I'd need to wait from getting my surgery (the 29th) to going back? My dr. suggested a full month because of the liquid diet and the surgery itself so I'm taking the months of June and July off but also really nervous to start back and tear something Just wondered how your experience was going since you last posted about it last year.

    June 9, 2013.......week 3

I went to my second of two psychologist's visits. Yoohoo!! I got clearance from him!! And this time, he didn't bother asking me any crazy questions like "Have you ever been small?" I saw my coordinator at the grocery store....she had a bypass and lost over a hundred pounds a few years ago.... she reassured me that she feels 99.9999999% sure that I'll be approved. When she gets my "Letter of Medical Necessity" and psych clearance, as well as nutritionist's clearance - she'll send it on up to BC/BS. Another woman that I work with (same insurance) just got approved....and I believe my BMI, sadly enough, is much higher than hers. So, it's really going to happen..........I'm going to do this - despite the naysayers who are telling me I'm mutilating my body, I shouldn't mess with what God gave me, etc. How do you respond to these people? Anyways - until the next update.... So, here's the weekly progress: June 9, 2013 8 weeks post op - Highest weight: 320.2 Current weight: 315.2 Goal weight: 172 Height: 5'10" My weekly diet modifications: Go entirely to decaf coffee. My weekly behavioral modifications: One night this week - no snacking or grazing after dinner.

    I am new here

Much of it depends on how compliant you are with your food intake. Some people think they can eat just like they always did...just eat less. Don't believe it! And even if you could you would not be improving your health, and that should be what it's all about. Now......if you are compliant and if you move your body you can probably average 1-2 lbs a week. I lost 160 lbs in 18 months....I've slowed down since then....in fact, I'm stuck, but I know it's temporary and I will keep on plugging. The average person loses 65% of their excess weight; so far, I've lost 75%. I keep asking myself, "Why be average? Why not 100%?" so I'm going to continue to work toward my goal and eat right. But even if I never lose another pound, it's all right.....wls has saved my life and improved the quality of my life so much it has all been worth it. I'm happy for you that you are ready to do something about your weight problem while you are young and you can enjoy your kids.....and they can enjoy having a healthy, active mom. Best wishes to you, sweetie.
  21. I think a big reason people on weight loss forums are at goal weight is because they have remained cognizant of the weight loss process and because they feel like they contribute to the forums as a person who, for whatever reason, has been successful. I'll be honest, if I started gaining weight I probably wouldn't post on here a lot because I wouldn't be thinking about my weight (or trying not to) and I'd be ashamed. As for the keys to success, I think in the long term the biggest is to do what works for you, which takes some trial and error. I was never a rule-follower. I drank with straws, I always drink with my meals, I didn't pay a lot of attention to Protein, I eat crackers, I had chocolate a few months after surgery and a few sips of champagne to be polite 3 weeks after surgery. I almost never sit down and eat an actual meal, I mostly eat when I feel hungry and I snack a lot. I used to be big on sweets, but while they often make me feel sick, I really don't have any big cravings for them anymore. When I am somewhere with sweets, I just don't eat any. The one thing I found consistently is that when I sweets, I absolutely gain weight. If I stay away from them, I have a lot more flexibility in my diet. I weigh myself everyday and write the number in a little calendar. I don't workout a lot anymore because I have found I can be lazy and maintain at goal. I think the one thing that has worked for me is the daily weigh-in. Last November I woke up after Halloween at 137, which is 8 pounds over my goal and the most I had weighed since hitting goal. It took me until January to get back to goal, but it was a good lesson that had I not been weighing myself everyday I would have had a lot more than 8 pounds to lose. When surgery is over and your stomach is healed, it comes down to what you can do for the rest of your life. I was not willing to be thirsty during meals for the rest of my life, I wasn't willing to workout every single day for the rest of my life, and I'm not willing to be fat. Somewhere in the middle there is a compromise with myself that has allowed me to be where I want to be and also be happy and live a life that doesn't completely revolve around my weight.

    Gained 5 lbs @ 12 weeks

Why did you increase your carbs? Glycogen in your liver and cells, creating water weight after coming off low carbing. That is your weight gain right there. Increase your protein and try to keep your carbs at 25, max 50. That is pretty easy to do. Meat and green veggies, that is all you should be eating, and the odd protein shake if you are running low on protein for the day.
  23. I too had my first fill on 1/2/08. It was 1.5 cc on a 4 cc band. I am watching my food intake and only eating 1/3 of what I used to eat. I'm eating solid protein first and very little carbs. But I've gained a pound!! I also never seem to be full. Occasionally if I don't chew things up enough or if I take too big a bite, I get that stuck feeling, but I never seem to be full. I need some helpful suggestions too. Please reply.
  24. Hello everyone!! I am just a month post-op now and have lost 34 pounds already, so I am thrilled with my progress so far. I know this was the right decision for me, and although I am only one month out, I am concerned about what my body will look like once I am down to the weight I want to be. I know I will have saggy skin/chest, and I knew that was a strong possibility before I decided to have the surgery. Its not something that would have ever changed my mind though. I have watched so many shows about people having skin revision surgeries, and they seem to be in so much pain!! I have had 10 surgeries in my life, so I am no stranger to pain, but, I just don't know if I want to put myself through it. Here are the surgeries I have had: 1) broke my leg in high school so had to have a rod put in my femur 2) had a bone infection for almost a year, so after my leg was healed, they took the rod out 3) c-section 4) c-section (and to add, my boobs are already saggy because of these 2 children, LOL!) 5) gallbladder removed 6) lumbar laminectomy with fusion 7) got infection from the back surgery, so they opened me up to clean it out 8) had to go back in again because of the infection 9) had cyst removed from my palm 10 gastric sleeve My back surgeries were by far the most painful surgeries I have ever been through, but skin revision surgery really scares me. I don't know what I will look like once I am done, but I can only imagine I will need a lot of work. If I do anything, it probably would only be my stomach and a breast lift. I would probably just live with my arms and legs. The gastric sleeve surgery was probably the easiest surgery I have ever had...that and the cyst removed from my palm. The only pain I really had from the sleeve was from lying on my back for the 2 days I was in the hospital. I cannot lie on my back anymore (comfortably) since I have had my back surgery, so that caused quite a bit of pain. The gastric sleeve itself was almost painless. Anyway, long story short, I was wanting to hear from people who have had skin/chest revision surgeries, and how the pain was for them. I know everyone is different, but I was just interested to hear some stories and if people would recommend it, or say it wasn't worth it. Thanks in advance to everyone!
