    December 2018 Sleevers!

So I have been stalled pretty much for the past two months and it scares the blank out of me - anyone else in the same boat here with me? Back to the basics for me, back to diving into this forum for support and inspiration. I know that I have ventured to far off into things I shouldn't eat and am aware of the error of my ways. Definitely got to keep those small bags of chips out of my house (the rest of the family will just have to go without) as they always call out to me in a weak moment and they being a slider food well they are freezing my weight in the moment.. Water -gotta start tracking again .. I have been limited in exercises per other medical problems (shoulder surgery & hernia)and not able to do any weight training but am thinking if I just do lots of repetitions of small weights and increase my walking. I need to lose another 10 lbs in a month so I can get my abdominal incisional hernia repaired. This hernia has haunted me for a very long time and is the reason why I got the sleeve surgery in the first place as Surgeons would not repair the hernia until I lost a bunch of weight as it was a previously repaired hernia with mesh that had to be cut through for another surgery that eventually became another hernia that has haunted me. AS I lose the weight it becomes more prominent. I call it my little monster. Also been dealing with some emotional stuff as I was just recently diagnosed with PTSD due to trauma and Major Depressive Disorder so I have been working on not eating my feelings and am working with professionals to get that back under control as well. So 9 months later, I am currently at a cross road in my journey and hoping to get back on the right path. Hoping to find that I am not alone and that others may be dealing with the same.

    A little weirdo am I

Hi, folks. You might read this off and give it a pause for seconds while understanding my post since English isn't my first language. So, please be aware of that some of the expressions I use here might be easier for you to understand in your language as you guess. I've been 11 days out and got the gastric sleeve surgery. I was a 6"2' tall 291 pound man, which is about 132 kilograms, and wasn't involved in any sort of sport games. Being a sedentary man who walks less than 5000 steps a day has got me trapped in a vicious circle that I couldn't manage to get out of it by myself, which has given me high levels in a liver test, cholesterols, and blood pressure while getting me heavier so that I couldn't dare to go work out at a gym or aerobic exercise. I know it all sounds like ridiculous excuses, but I hope you feel me and agree that we all got sort of depressive feelings from what we've seen in a mirror, and your ill legs too. I'm not typing here to troll or discourage anyone since I'm the one who really needs to look for some good tips about good diets from this community. If you ever find my post being a troll or harmful to anyone, you feel free to kick my butt out of here. Since I never meant to be, I'll stay cool with that. Sorry for the long, wordy intro that I had to introduce myself a bit and confess my sincerity from the beginning. I just wanted to share my experiences here and find ones who may have the same experiences like me so that I can be relieved or run to see my doc real soon if my eating habits have gone too bad) Let me stop chirping and get straight to the point from here. When I was 6 days out, I had no problem with eating scrambled eggs and soft tofu with soy sauce on top. I had a banana (or sometimes two at a time) when I had no strength left. When I was 7 days out, I was fine with eating about 6 slices of a peach maybe because I chewed them well. When I was 8 days out, I tried meaty dumplings and was absolutely fine with them. When I was 10 days out yesterday, I nibbled a fried drumstick without the breading and next day I gained no weight and had no problem with that. Today, it's 11 days out, and I happily ate a piece of fried flounder fillets, full of juicy white fish flesh. I sipped 3 oz of Sprite slowly and had a flat wing without the breading. That does not sound alright for me, but that's been my guilty pleasure and pretty much of it that I had during the whole day. I quit drinking protein shakes, and I drink about two little bottles of potable water a day. I haven't tried noodles or other types of carbohydrates(carbs) yet, but those experiences have given me a weird feeling that I might be able to eat anything but spicy food for now. The reasons for all this are because I've been already sick of protein shakes and found them pretty disgusting after 12 time attempts. From the 13th attempt, I've had cravings for real foods so that I have come this far. I've come up with three possible ways to go that I might be standing on. Been shoveling my graveyard to lay myself down, being normal since few people went through the same and had no issue with that, or been a weirdo that pioneered my way to go and I should be a subject of a medical experiment. I'm actually very confused about my unusual eating habits. Any thoughts?

    Any September Sleevers?

My preop diet will consist of 1 slim fast shake for breakfast, 1 slim fast shake for lunch and 1 frozen dinner such as lean cuisine, smart ones or weight watchers. I am also allowed 1 cup of celery & carrots daily. I was originally told it would be for 14 days prior to surgery but when I went to doctor in July because I lost more weight I was told I only needed to do the diet for 10 days. I hope when I go Tuesday the decrease the amount of days even more. Lol. I guess I'll have to weight & see......
  4. Yes, my shoe size dropped from 10 to 9 some 9 1/2.

    Any September Sleevers?

Another September 23rd here! PHEW! Long 7 months (psych eval took 2 MONTHS to get to my surgeon!), but so close I can't stand it! Insurance required: 6 month of dietician and weigh-in (lost a grand total of 10 pounds as I already eat pretty healthy), cardiologist, psych eval and pulmonologist. Surgeon required: endoscopy and support group meetings. Then my insurance kept me on pins & needles for 3 weeks pending approval. But it's all done but the crying', as they say! LOL More excited than nervous. The only thing that scares me is the limited pre-op diet! I've warned family that I am going to be hungry, tired and very grouchy; got my apologies in early! I'll probably try to sleep most of it away. Have to meet with the pre-op educator in about a week for finally details.
  6. I weighed and logged everything the first 16 months, then I stopped. I just started doing it again because my weight crept up on me a few weeks ago 10 lbs !! I have gone back down 5 lb with 5 lb more to go. Your sleeve will eventually relax so knowing how much you are eating is very important. Best of Luck
  7. I take a short cut with the weighing/measuring by making up snacks that I calculate only once. I freeze the portions and I can use them as snacks or as part of a meal. These include salmon patties, turkey or sirloin meatballs, mini quiche cups, mini cheese cakes, pumpkin custard, black bean burgerballs, mini corn tortilla with beans and cheese. Each snack has 70 - 110 calories and 3-10 gm protein. I also use the same recipes for my standby berry green smoothies and power yoghurt cups, so there is no calculation there. When you find something you really like and will cook again, put it on a recipe card, with the macro breakdown and save all the work next time around.
  8. When I young and thin I wore a 9. I was an 11 pre-op and now a 10. I'm hoping to get back to 9. So, yes you do lose weight in your feet.
  9. Hi all. I’ve been reading the posts for a couple weeks now and too scared to post. But decided to just get over it and reach out for some advice and help. My surgery is scheduled for October 14, 2019, after a full year of being in the Kaiser program. I am getting the bypass as the only option from Kaiser. I am currently 257 and started at 265. I was in a bariatric program before, made it to then end, and then they told me they missed an initial step of verifying my insurance and found my BMI was not high enough initially to qualify so I wasn’t able to get the surgery and was devastated. Since then (around 2014) I have been actively trying to get the surgery and am just now finally getting it. My mom had the surgery 12 years ago and has kept her weight off but had significant issues with iron deficiency that nearly killed her. My husband has also had the sleeve and is struggling three years post op because he has not made the changes and relies solely on the surgery. I am 27. I also have PCOS- enough of my background... My issue now is that I am getting cold feet. I guess I spent the last 5 years trying and trying to get the surgery and never really thought it was going to be reality for me. Now that it is, I am feeling scared. I’m mostly scared of the fact that I need to make the LIFELONG changes and if I could have done those on my own for all the years I’ve been trying I would have done it already. I don’t want to have a lifetime of sickness because I can’t commit to the changes I need to make to my diet to be successful. I have come a long way and am so much healthier thanks to the kaiser program but I still have issues with my diet. I’m also scared of the actual surgery and recovery. So I guess my question for you all is- if you were in my situation- which I assume many of you have been- what would you do? Do any of you regret the surgery? How has the adjustment been to the diet? Any of you had experiences of not making the changes with diet and struggle? I’d just like to hear any and all stories or feedback or advice to help me decide what to do
  10. Do any of you wear a shoe size smaller than what you did before surgery or at the start of your weight loss journey? I'm a size 10 right now, I'm hoping that after surgery, and I lose all my weight (130-150lbs - which is a strict goal of mine) that I will drop a shoe size to 9 or 8.5. Was wondering if this is possible, I am 5'7, and feel like size 10 W is not feminine for a woman Hoping to get down to a more normal size feet wise. Would like to hear your stories.. thanks
  11. The cheap cotton 3 pack sports bras from walmart are awesome for around $10. Even better is their $6 single pack microfiber sports bra. They aren't sturdy enough to be an actual sports bra, so don't play tennis in them or you might wind up with black eyes! They last forever and are very comfy and expand and contract with loss or gain.

    At home sleep study

I have had both studies done around 10+ years apart. Both showed sleep apnea. I didn’t wear the cpap mask ten years ago because I couldn’t sleep with it. Last year I began using the cpap with the nose pillows and I can sleep just fine with it. I am hoping the cpap goes away with the weight loss after rny on 10/15. At home was better and less invasive. I found it difficult to sleep in a room hooked up to a lot of “stuff” and being video monitored. Eek! Lol

    Non Scale Victories

I bought a bike about two months ago, and my big goal was to have enough confidence to go on long bike rides alone. I was too nervous. I would get on my bike and feel so unsteady. I would not go alone. Just short rides with friends. Yesterday morning, I woke up and just did it. I had been praying for help, and signed up for a cycling confidence course beginning Sept 4th, but I wanted to be steady and sure enough to join the class and not slow them down. I took my bike to a near by parking lot and practiced, got used to the gears, did figure 8s, and then took off to the nearest bike path. 45 minutes later..... I felt like a 12 year old. I could stop, get up, get down, turn corners, go fast, go up a hill, down a hill.... go over bumps! I came home and just had tears rolling down my face. Working out in the gym, improving my balance, losing weight..... and the inspiration of people here, really helped. That was NSV 1. NSV 2 is that I have 10 bottles of fine wine club wines in my house and my car that I did not touch for weeks now. Today is the day I take them to a family reunion, to share (give away) to everyone. I DO NOT MISS Wine!!!! That was the toughest thing to give up! I feel blessed!
  16. I think I'm going to start adding to this when i can as well, i have slacked off so much with my food and have eaten crap for sake of emotional/period eating and i'm at a stand still for weight loss. I'm 6 months out from sleeve. Here is what i ate yesterday, 8/29. It was my day off and i slept in so i didn't eat until 11 am. This was MUCH better than bingeing (sp?) Wednesday on pizza and some brownie from pizza hut. 17. I eat about 700 calories a day, 10 months out. At a year "they" say I should be at 1100. No way. I can't physically eat anything else. Plus, I HAVE to eat high protein because of my exercise routine, and much of that isn't very high calorie. If you're still losing, stay the course, imo. I don't track anymore because I literally eat the same thing virtually every single day. So, every day in my diary would be identical. lol.
  18. I am one year out, as of 8/27/2018. My weight loss goes like this: Note: you can see where my frustration is..... 10 pounds lost in 6months. I'm depressed. 8/27/2018 - 311 pounds 9/27/2018- 277 pounds 10/22/2018- 263 pounds 11/20/2018- 250 pounds 03/04/2018- 224 pounds 08/27/2019- 214 pounds
