    September 2019 🍂🍁

We are all different. My nutritionist did a group class and she kept talking about the 10 day liquid diet (and other instructions), but then would come over and whisper to me because my plan is totally different than everyone else's plan. Basically, I was fast tracked through everything... most had 6 months of appointment requirements, I only had 3 months. They had 10 days of pre-op diet, I was initially told 3 days but then she changed it to 2 days. I am starting off with a lower BMI and they didn't want me to lose too much weight pre-op.

    Any September Sleevers?

I have to do the preop diet for 10 days. 2 shakes a day and weight watchers dinner. I can also have up to 1 cup of celery & carrots🙄
  3. Hi, All: I was banded in 2009 and never had much success with it. Any time I got restriction, it came with a lot of heartburn (which manifested itself as nausea). I also struggled with a lot of food intolerance. Eventually, because my insurance switched and I have a written exclusion regarding bariatric surgery, I had the band mostly unfilled due to too much restriction and cost. At any rate, in January, my health insurance plan will now include bariatric surgery, although it’s unclear as to what language looks like regarding revisions. One concern I have is how to make a case to the insurance company deeming the revision medically necessary. I have had many EGDs, which showed mild irritation in my esophagus, but nothing extreme. Grandest, it’s been almost 10 years since anyone’s looked at the band and who knows what the current state of affairs is—I will have an evaluation once my insurance kicks in. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips in dealing with insurance companies covering revision when severe symptoms, slippage, erosion, etc isn’t present?

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

    1. My personal goal: Practice intermittent fasting throughout the month and get a better mastery over this new tool. 2. VGS on 2/6/19. Still losing. 80 pounds gone, 20-25 to go. 3. CW: 166.8 (taken last Thursday) BMI is 26.2 4. Will choose easy because the first half of this month is going to be beastly for me 5. Favorite flaw: I enjoy eating on the same leftovers for days on end because it’s just easier that way. Ironically, even though I’d spent so much of my life MO, I’m not a foodie at all. Simpler is better.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

At the age of 50, I knew going hard-core anything really wasn’t on the table for me. Especially at the start of this with a healing from surgery body and still carrying around so much weight. That’s why finding Pilates was such a life saver for me in the beginning. I’ve started getting more aggressive on my treadmill and can’t wait to start actually running again. I’ve always loved running (even though I’ve never been a natural for it) and I fully give running credit for saving my life over 10 years ago. I had turned 40 at the end of 2008 and decided to make another stab at losing weight and getting fit. Well I lost 40 pounds over 8 months and started running. It was when I would go on my longer runs (4-5 miles or more) that I would notice chest pains. That made me go to my PCP who saw I was 40 and recommended a mammogram in addition to the ekg. Turns out my chest pains weren’t heart related, they were because I had a tumor in my left breast. Would’ve never found it til too late according to many doctors. Anyway, exercise for me will never be triathlon/iron man kind of stuff, but I do love getting a bit of a sweat on and I love the control that Pilates gives me over my body now.

    OOTD

Okay so I literally could waste pages here quoting and commenting on everyone’s cute outfits. Looooooooove all of them. Side question: how many of you guys are currently struggling to find your style? I’ve spent so much of the last 20+ years wearing whatever I thought made me look the least fat/whatever was available to purchase in my size and what my pocketbook could afford. Now that I’ve moved from a size 22/24 and my size 12s are getting slightly roomy, I’m about to start my fall purchases in size medium/10. As I do this, I realize that I’m still gravitating to some of the “same old, same old” kinds of looks and I’m startled by the fact that I honestly have no idea (besides my necessary requirement for comfy shoes) what I want the new wardrobe to look like

I hope you find what works for you.
  10. So I’ve been having severe right side pain. It is not surgical pain. I can’t even walk without pain. When I lay down the pain is gone. Has anyone else ever had this pain? I was sleeved 8/27/19 pod 6. I might go to the ER because this does not feel normal. Also, I don’t think it’s gallbladder since I don’t have fever, nausea, etc. Also, I’m wondering if it’s just muscle pain.

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

I need this for my saggy pancake butt!! 1. Posting your personal goal: 140 (recently lowered from 150 as I close in on that number) 2. Add your surgery type, status (pre/post op, losing/maintenance): VSG on 10/17/18 3. Weight and BMI (not necessary but encouraged): weight: 153 bmi: 25.1 4. Choose between the easy or advance squat routine: easy routine because of my knee issues, but will play around with advanced when possible 5. Tell us your favorite flaw: I'm drinking way too much flavored water. All sugar free and carbonation free, of course. But man, a nice, cold pineapple or strawberry crush flavored water is so refreshing when it's hot outside. I'm working on cutting back to more plain water!

    Hungry after gastric sleeve?

Had my sugery on 8/27/2019 feeling hungry and thirsty. Body is adjusting to newa sugar level. I just keeping calm and collected my house is dam mesz.
  13. I try my best to keep carbs at below 20 grams. I'm typically at 15 grams net carbs of an approximately 500 cals daily. Fat is negligible for me. It's typically fat in Yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta or my tablespoon of Olive oil. My plan says Dense proteins in fish, chicken, Turkey, canned Tuna, Tofu or eggs. And cooked green veggies OR soft fruits ( Berries except black berries, melon, Apple with skin off, fresh or canned with no syrup). All in 1/2 cup. For every 3 bites of protein, 1 bite of veggies. No starch, grains or sugar. So 60 grams to 80 grams proteins 15 to 20 grams carbs 10 to 15 grams fat Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. according to the BMI chart, the normal range for someone 5'1 is 100-130 lbs, so you're not underweight, at least according to the chart. Don't forget that many of us have a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting our lowest weight, so you may very well end up at 130, without even trying. to gain, though, you just have to increase your calories. But your body may just naturally bounce back. I at one time got into the 130s and felt too thin (I'm 5'6"), but I started regaining (without trying) in year 3 and ended up at 150, which is probably a better weight for me (and easier to maintain!)
  15. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 8/23/19 and am feeling hungry. Has anyone else felt hungry after their surgery.? I read that people lose their appetite, but my stomach still seems to growl, or is it just gurgeling?

Thought I'd upload a shot if me wearing that dress. Same one I wore onstage in my band all those years ago [emoji4] Went to a conference and wore it at a cocktail party. Lots of people there didn't even recognize me! I've finally transitioned from 'obese' to 'overweight', by BMI standards, anyway! I'm still losing significant weight atm (I think over 10 pounds last month) but I'm expecting a stall soon. My stalls are getting longer and longer... it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if I lost nothing this month at all. Hope everyone's doing well and keeping positive! Where's Recidivist at? Have you moved to winterless Australia yet, my friend?? Can't wait to hear about your move! Stay away from the TimTams. Hehe! [emoji23] Sent from my CPH1719 using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Hi @SassyTwin I am very new to all of this as I had a sleeve done on Aug 12th and an emergency bypass done a week later, so I hadn't read much on the bypass as that isn't what I went in for lol So, even though it had to be done nobody filled me in on the differences or the info I needed regarding the bypass. So you may well know most of these but I will share my questions and ponderings with you anyway. Take extra sleepwear/underwear just in case you end up in there longer than anticipated. Take basic toiletries Take some feminine hygiene products just in case, the sudden change in hormones from surgery and drastic weight loss so quickly caused a release of oestrogen from the fat cells which meant I needed some products, even though I am perimenopausal with a coil and haven't needed any for a while! (that was a shocker!) I wish I had taken a good body lotion in with me as I became very dry all over, my skin looked like it had aged 10 years everywhere I wish I had taken my own v-shaped pillow in as I found the hospital pillows really thin and pointless. (I got it in there in the end!) If you are on medication before you go in, find out about getting all of them in liquid form if possible. Take a heat pack and an instant ice pack or 2 You will be uncomfortable lying on your back if you are usually a side sleeper, so be mentally prepared Have a good protein powder ready at home that is a small scoop (genepro) rather than the one I currently have which is a large scoop and froths up too much. Have a good supply of savoury high protein soups ready at home because those of us with a Bypass don't seem to be able to tolerate the sweet one's post-op. Learn what you can about dumping syndrome so you can try and prevent it happening to you Learn what you can about being lactose intolerant post-op too, I didn't know this was a thing with bypass Read read read what you can on here, so much fantastic info, advice and support GOOD LUCK
  18. Well, we went on that last nature walk and it was NOT supposed to rain but in the middle of it, we got hit with a deluge of rain and wind (rain coming in sideways). Made it back to car after what felt like forever, completely soaked. We managed to walk 1.7 miles that day and it may have been more if it hadn't been for the rain but that's for another time. It's been 38 days since surgery now and I've lost 19.8 lbs. I'm made peace, at least for now, with the rate I'm losing as I was a very slow 'loser' prior to surgery (did keto for 15 months) so I have to remember without this surgery that I definitely would NOT have lost 19.8 lb in 38 days. Yes, in my first month or two of my 15 month keto journey I did lose a LOT...close to this same rate, but that was probably at least 10 lbs of water weight and that pace was not sustainable. Current weight loss rate is roughly .52 lbs a day which is actually pretty great in my mind. I do feel STRONGLY that I have to keep up the physical activity multiple times a wk. And I know there are more stalls in my future & even gains as I continue to walk with my daughter and am working on a plan to join a friend at a local gym to walk an air conditioned track with her and also to have access to other machines/weights/etc. For now I just wanted to give an update. The 'vent' that I left here the other day helped me to get things out so I could start breaking past the negativity that was going on in my mind and thinking. Thanks for the support.
  19. Loved that you showed up in your size 24’s to your appointment. You have done phenomenal.🏆🎖️ A triathlon! You are a bad ass. How are you currently fueling while you train? I know nothing about how to fuel for that type of event. I’ve been running for years. (Half and full marathons) some things I learned from other Bariatric Athletes on fueling after surgery. I’m sure these are things you already know.( Feel free to skip the rest of the post) Fueling will be trial and error to find what works for you. (1) Hiring a sports medicine dietician may help. (2) Food on a pre event tapper link below https://www.triathlete.com/2019/01/nutrition/a-7-day-race-week-meal-plan-for-triathletes_338482 I modify my tapper. Carb load seven-days pre-race. it takes more time to fuel my glycogen stores with the sleeve. I do sports drinks without sugar. (NUUN tabs saved me from dehydration) I replace real sugars with fruit. (3) Pre event tapper training link below. https://www.triathlete.com/2016/09/training/triathlon-taper-tutorial_136524 (3) Food on event day Some people do fine with a meal in the morning. I can’t run with food race day. (The last thing I need is to make porta potty stops on the route) Instead of food, I use powdered carbs. I add them for calories in my water/hydration vest. I carry the powder in a zip lock baggy. I add more cytoCarb when I refill my vest on the route. Hope you figure out what works for you. I would love to see photos of your events.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I’m down 76 pounds. My mini goal is to be 100 down by thanksgiving. That gives me right at 3 months to lose 24 pounds. I need to exercise. I signed up for 4 weeks of gladiator camps. I will likely drop dead during class but the fact that it was $10 made it hard to pass up. Not sure I can meet this goal but I’m going to try. I have some slow months for weight loss which is very frustrating.

    Considering WLS

Hi, and welcome! I'm not from Oregon, but have had gastric bypass in March 2019, and had hypertension, diabetes, type 2, arthritis in knees, generally felt lousy everywhere. Now, I'm off my diabetes meds and it's gone! Off my high blood pressure meds! Knees don't hurt, and generally feel great! Best decision I ever made health wise. I had a BMI of over 40, and now I'm in the "overweight" category, on my way to normal. Read everything you can, and ask questions. Good luck with your journey!

    Stomach cramping

I'm about 10 days out from surgery and when I saw my surgeon for my 1 week I asked her about that, she said it was normal and that it would go away and it did just a few days later. I found sometimes taking a deep breath when the pain started helped significantly. Hang in there, it'll pass. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
