Pre-op liquid protein diet
elrios1 replied to jess2112's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink premier for a grab and go, but also purchased Genepro on ebay. Its a tasteless protein powder you can add to anything and one lil scoop is 30g -
most folks who had that problem mentioned the genepro, maybe that?
-
Miso lover here too. Never tried it with PB2. Great idea, thank you. If I'm a little low on Protein I add a tablespoon of GENEPRO in it. Sometimes I put in a few "Better than noodles" in it, they are zero calorie, low carb, vegan, gluten free and non-GMO.

12 says post op, best I've felt, yet regret I did it
happymama2014 replied to nprcowboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are still not feeling great. When I was still in pain it was hard to tell between hunger, acid and pain. Now when I wake up after about 30 min I feel hunger and I'm recognizing that feeling. I drink 8 oz if milk/protein powder over ice and it takes me about 30-45 min. Right after I can tell I'm not hungry. But about an hour later I feel it again so I try some hot broth seems to feel full longer. The Jello was taking space and not helping with the Protein and hunger and I can only take about 4 small bites and I feel a little pain so my sleeve is full. My doctor said after about a minute and a half whatever you ate will kind of passed down and then I have another bite and keep doing it until it's been about a half an hour since you started eating. Makes you feel full longer but hard to eat so slow. Trying to figure out if you can try Greek yogurt instead of jello through the day. I eat a few bites from one yogurt a few times through the day to keep something on my stomach longer. It really helps me feel full. I am definitely not starving and the weight is just falling off. I'm also mixing two scoops of GENEPRO flavorless protein in 16 oz blender ball with crystal light powder and I drink that as my liquids but they also have protein in every sip. I can get 60 grams protein just in that 16 oz of crystal light. Hopefully getting more protein between meals can help you stay fuller longer ???? try the warmer fluids also it feels better than cold I seem fuller. Good luck! -
Best thing I found was GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. I could not gag down anymore Protein shakes. I mix it in to ricotta cheese, or refried Beans or chili etc and it adds 30 grams of protein to whatever you're eating. I have even used it in sugar free pudding. Mix in one scoop and prepare with skim milk. That way I know I get at least 60 grams of protein per day. I still find Water hard but I work at it. The biggest problem I had was nausea and tiredness but once I started getting more water in those symptoms got better. Still feels like a lead balloon whenever I eat but it is getting easier. I'm at 8 weeks.

@@Raymia here's all the samplers I ordered: https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/syntrax-nectar-protein-powder-sampler-variety-bag-15-flavors https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/bariatric-fusion-meal-replacement-single-serving-packet-variety-pack https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/bariatricpal-fruit-protein-drinks-variety-pack https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/protein-powders/products/bariatricpal-variety-shake-pudding-7-packets-per-box http://www.unjury.com/products/unjury-starter-kit.html https://www.gotein.com/sample-pack I also have not tried these, but another place that's offering sample sizes is: https://truenutrition.com/p-7425-tn-proteinflavor-sample-packs.aspx I've also been told you can go to some health food stores like Vitamin Shoppe or GNC and they'll let you try some of the Protein powders/drinks, but I haven't tried that myself. It's a lot, and I didn't order them all at once, but I was glad I did. A lot of them, I just couldn't stomach. This was a LOT less wasteful than ordering stuff I hadn't tried. I am VERY picky about tastes/textures so I knew I couldn't just grab something off the shelf. Oh, and I also got a sampler of ready-made Premier Protein from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Chocolate-Vanilla-Strawberry/dp/B01LWU0BP5/ref=sr_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481650883&sr=8-9&keywords=premier+protein+flavors The other option a lot of people go with is just getting the unflavored stuff and adding it into other liquids and foods. I found that the Syntrax and GENEPRO unflavored affect the taste/texture the least. Some of the samplers have unflavored to try. Some people don't trust the Genepro hype (more available protein than should be available by mass) but I haven't found any reason not to use it. Good luck!!

My positive experience mixing Genepro
trekker954 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use to follow the manufacturer direction of mixing GENEPRO with hot liquid at the bottom and mixing genpro with cold on top and/or directly into cooked foods. I did read here someone mixed it with a little Water first (thank you to whomever that was). So I have been using this method now for the past couple of months with success every time. I believer that mixing it with room temperature water first is best. Once I was cleared for coffee, about 2 months post op, I've started my day with genepro mixed in my coffee. That starts my day off with 30 grams. I now put in my genepro and blend with a fork and a little bit of tap water, just enough to mix it (I don't want to dilute it too much), then I add my coffee. At that point it doesn't matter how hot my coffee is. Before this method, if the coffee was too hot it would not blend the Genepro and I'd have little bits of it that would clump and be disgusting and at the price of Genepro, I'd hate tossing that cup. I'm not sure I'd meet my Protein goal if not for supplementing still (5+ months out) with my morning Genepro. I don't notice any change in taste of my coffee. You can probably use this method for Soups and such. Just remember they do not advise microwaving Genepro. I know many aren't sold on this supplement; but I keep reading some newbie post ops complaining they aren't getting their protein in and just wanted to share my mixing tips if you do use it. -
I’ve been on my puréed stage for a week and a half now and I’m feeling really discouraged. I am constantly hungry. I had 2 tbsp of cream of wheat for Breakfast made with 1/2 c Fairlife skim milk.... was hungry about an hour later. So, I had a smoothie I made (1 c. Fairlife, 1/2 container greek yogurt, 2 tbsp blueberries, 2 tbsp raspberries, 1/4 banana, 1 scoop genepro). 11 am rolled around... I was hungry again! I waited until lunch(12:00 for me) and had 1/4 c ham salad and 3 tbsp cottage cheese. At 3 pm I was hungry again! I am so stinking frustrated. Am I doing something wrong? What is going on? I feel like I'm overeating and ruining my new stomach!

75 Pounds Down Today -- I Love My Band!
Bandista replied to Bandista's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@dfaulkner hi there and congratulations on your tremendous success. I think we all worry about going back to old habits or complacency. I was a restricter for so many years. Now if I want something I let myself have a bit and then I am not in that mental state of Can't Have. It's a head game, for sure. Boredom can be a factor; if I'm busy I'm not thinking about food. Pink Dahlia's suggestions are great. Maybe you need a treat so why not find the right one for yourself. I have those 100 calorie yogurts that have real sugar and Steevia in them -- I mix in chia seeds and a little gluten-free Cereal, maybe a few nuts to make it chewy so I get the signal for satiety (otherwise yogurt is a slider for me). This appeases my sweet tooth and my craving for something creamy, plus it's a meal. If I'm short on Protein I put in a spoonful of GENEPRO Protein powder for a 30 gram hit. But that's rare. I have a bottle of Steevia that I like -- it's from Trader Joe's. There is a lot of variety in taste and you need to be careful to make sure you get one that is 100% Steevia as there are ones out there with less than desirable ingredients. It's super sweet so just try a few drops in something. Good luck and let us know how you're doing. Four years out is so inspiring! -
Unflavored Protein question
ShelterDog64 replied to Christina.Rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Christina.Rose I purchased several unflavored Protein powders and tried them pre-op. At that time I thought unjury and Syntrax were the best. Isopure's unflavored variety smelled horrible to me and I could taste it. Post-op it was a different story...I used Isopure's low-carb chocolate powder a little, but it's got a weird chemical taste that I just don't like. The unflavored Isopure remains my least favorite. I became sensitive to the smell and taste of both Unjury and Syntrax unflavored, I don't like the Unjury chicken broth, either but do like the citrus flavors of Syntrax Nectars. My hands-down favorite unflavored protein is GENEPRO. I can't smell or taste it in food or drinks and it doesn't bother my stomach. I've been using it for 5 months and am losing very well with it. I recently bought a container of Quest unflavored just to see what it's like and I had to return it to GNC. It was disgusting. -
I totally get what you are saying. There was a time (not to far back) that I expressed my love of GENEPRO!!! I had quite a few people jump all over me!! That I was being misled all over the place and that GENEPRO was lying about how much protein they had in it. Now I am ok with peole disagreeing, like was said NOT everyone has the same ideas as me. But...I have seen different ones on here. Not so much the ones that were here when I first started out. In a group like this we will all come accross someone that doesn't agree with us. There is a better way of saying it as how I was talked too. I was basically called a moron!! When I stated that it was sold here on BARIATRICPAL store. I was told it was just the money making that our leaders were into. There has to be a few in ever group. I try the old saying from one of my Favorite Disney shows. Thumper (I do love me some Thumper) His mom told him. If you can't say something nice, don't say NOTHING at all. Let's all agre to be better to each other. Everyone needs this site for support. I hope you all have a great THRUSDAY!!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

You might want to try Genepro (I bought mine in Amazon). You only need 1 tbs for 30 grams of protein! It has no taste and mixes into anything (crystal light, broth, yogurt, apple sauce, etc...) without leaving a funky taste. It's really helped me!

5 days post op, difficulty meeting protein goals
trekker954 replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had the sleeve and my gallbladder removed at the same time. I'm sorry you are having a difficult time, but seriously, now isn't the time to be money pinching, when RTD shakes are going to keep you alive and healthy. Sip, sip, sip. And make sure you intake Water, tea, mix our water with crystal light or other flavors to make it easy to go down... But you cannot just say you can't do it, or can't afford it. You MUST!!! You won't be on shakes for long. Once you can tolerate food, and you have been cleared, you can get your Protein in. Many of us, continue to use shakes as it is an easy way to meet the daily goal. Premiere shakes are good, most of us tolerate those. Buy some GENEPRO. Its expensive, but you can mix it with just about anything and it has no taste. I way overbought in preparation and now find, that I have found my favorite flavor, its hard to use the other products I bought. oh well. I will continue to do, especially in this crucial beginning period, to drink and eat, what agrees with me best. -
Me and Artificial Protein are NOT Getting Along
BLERDgirl replied to MyssJones's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I like FAGE0% greek yogurt. It's 18 gm of Protein per 8oz. mixed with fruit you can get a pretty decent protein boost that way. If it's too think for you, add some lowfat milk and mix in a blender. As a vegetarian there are some organic protein powders out there: Biochem, Vega , Orgain organics to name just a few. There are also great unflavored Proteins that can be mixed with food. GENEPRO, Procource, Isopure and the infamous Un jury. FYI- you may want to talk to your doctor about the gummie Vitamins. They are complete and may not be giving you all the mineral and nutrients needs. My doctor said even flintstone chewables were better than gummies. -

Unjury vs Genepro?
Freckles70 replied to Freckles70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all. I'm mostly concerned about which has the better taste, or actually which is the most tasteless. My NUT recommends either and several people from my program have used GENEPRO with good bloodwork results. I really like the unjury chocolate flavors. They seem to have the thin consistency that I prefer. I was mostly put off by the quantity of the unflavored Unjury that I needed to blend in. -
December 2015 sleevers progress check
hyggelieg replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on 12/9. SW 285 CW 251. I am pleased with how things are going. I have been in a stall for 3 weeks, but I know this will change. I average between 700-800 calories. I feel very fortunate that I was able to find a Protein powder that I really like so I have a shake every morning. I also use Musclegen- GENEPRO unflavored powder that is 30 gr of protein for 1 tbl! This type actually mixes fine in hot liquids, so I have it in my afternoon coffee. Makes getting my protein in a lot easier! -
I do use GENEPRO.......and like Franks Red hot......."I put that **** on everything". It seems to be the most tasteless and dissolves the best with the least or no clumps. Oh, and here is a tidbit on human nature. Given time, we have the ability to adapt to almost anything. Over the last couple of years, I have used various Protein drinks and for the life of me I can't understand WHY, in this day and age they can't make the stuff taste better. It's all horrible. B-u-t........The few that i have settled on using......well .....let's just say that continuing to consume them over & over & over & over & over .....(you get the idea) they do grauually get more bearable. Some I even look forward to .......Ok see, I went too far there. I had you till I said "look forward". Anyway.....just grin a bear it .....visualize starving on "Naked and Afraid" and the alternative is a bug

How do u get ur protein?
wannaBthinsoon replied to culmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GENEPRO is amazing isn't it?! it is totally flavorless and mixes with everything!! -
I've heard of some people naming their sleeves (Frankensleeve, Sherman, Miss Diva), and I actually named mine, even though she hasn't been "born" yet. Almost like anticipating a new baby (does that make me weird? lol). Since some also consider their surgery date their new birthday, too! I made myself an adorable box that I'm keeping all my post op necessities in like GENEPRO, Biotene mouth spray, a new thermometer, Gas-X strips, flavored Protein samples, mini food containers for work, even a Glade plug-in for my hospital room (thanks Elode!). I even got an adorable gastric sleeve keychain. So, here's to "Verti" my sleeve to-be! Did you name yours?
