Protein Shakes Preop
laceemouse replied to southernmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pre-surgery I liked most of the powders, Quest has some good flavors. I mixed them with almond milk and ice and whizzed them in the Ninja. It was like an ice milk shake. Post surgery I am struggling with all of them. I have tried 10 different kinds, pre-made and powders. They are all so sweet and fake tasting and have a terrible aftertaste. And they are upsetting my stomach. I ordered GENEPRO today, they is some controversy around it but I have got to find something I can handle. -
There is a whole lot of people that have different ideas as does the DR.'s on the amount of Protein that we absorb at one time. But...I was told as I have heard others say the same thing, that our bodies can only use 30grams at a time. Now as for the protein I use, First let me tell you I'm 3 years out and I shudder at the thoughts of how much money I have wasted on protein products. It is a good thing my nephew took everything that I didn't care for. I finally found a nonflavored and it is nonflavored protein and it is GENEPRO. I use it in my coffee and I do love my coffee. So it is a WIN WIN for me. Now if you want a ready made protein I like ATKINS. They have 15grams of protein in them. I liked MYOPLEX rich dark Protein drinks and I also liked Muscle Milk banana flavored Protein Powder with gram cracker flavored muscle milk, I added 1/2 a frozen banana and lactose-free milk. It was real good tasted like a banana pudding.

I'm almost 6 weeks post op and if I drink ONE MORE Premier Protein drink, I swear I will scream... How else do you all get protein in other than using Genepro?
-
I have done a few half marathons but I am thinking about doing a full. I am nervous and wondering how you manage your food intake on long run days? or during the race? I run in the mornings so I usually just have a cup of coffee with GENEPRO in it. And then if I do 8-10 miles I might have a few gel chews. Thanks so much. ~LA

Sleeved 8/25 Hw 247 Sw 240 Cw 203 Almost to that ONEderland!!! Have been stalled for over a week. Of course it would happen right before getting out of the 200's. Lol. Feeling great. Need to exercise more but time is a huge issue for me. I take 30g of GENEPRO daily and try to get the rest of my Protein in with solid food. If for some reason I don't, then I'll take more genepro in the evening. I work nights (5pm-5am) so my schedule is a nightmare and I think it adds to my slow weight loss. But hey, I'm 44 lbs lighter than I was 2 months ago, so I'm happy! Oh, hair loss has started. Not pleased with that part. Luckily I have very long thick hair. I hope it doesn't continue too long. I do notice a couple areas it is thinning. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
laceemouse replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Didjit, Be careful buying ahead too much. Most of WLS peeps have their taste change after their Surgery. Agreed. I am one week post-op tomorrow and I am so sick of sweet I could puke. And I DID used to love sweets. I am going out for GENEPRO and Fair Life milk tomorrow. I can't wait to eat eggs, meat, cheese, nuts......oh my it is driving me batty!! -

Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App The unjury Unflavored and the Isopure Unflavored both worked great for me.

Genepro... I buy from Amazon... It says it's 30 grams of protein per scoop but I only count it as 15 grams and you can put it in almost anything... -

My go to Protein shake is 10z fairlife milk (half reg/half chocolate), 1 scoop GENEPRO, and 1 scoop PB2. You can swap the pb2 for instant decaf for a mocha feel. I like thinks cold, so i just picked up a personal blender to make "frapachinos" at work. HW 385 SW 359 CW 335 (50lbs down!) Sleeved 10/5/16

Iodine allergy, I need help finding a Protein Shake or Powder
shedo82773 replied to Melinda Ann M's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm not sure if these Proteins have iodine or not but...I love ATKIN'S. Also, I love GENEPRO unflavored. I add it to my coffee every day. It has 30grams for a Tablespoon. Atkins has 15grams of Protein. I'm with you about the Isopure YUKKY!! I commend anyone that can handle that junk. -
Update on OCt sleevers.....
TerminiNutrition replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One serving of GENEPRO is roughly 10g of Protein, not 30. It is scientifically impossible and this is now proven. Please use with caution. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Update on OCt sleevers.....
beckipastor replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App -
Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
Bufflehead replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
@@ShelterDog64 I've got absolutely nothing against people using Genepro when it works for them. To be honest, I think that many people tend to over-consume protein post-op, so if Genepro is less protein than it says it is, maybe that is a good thing! Even if it was tested and turned out to be like those herbal supplements that claimed to be ginseng and were actually just ground up houseplants, if people are using it, they are losing weight, and their bloodwork is good, I see no harm in it at all. -

ShelterDog64 replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
@summerset@Bufflehead I'm not going to get into a battle about GENEPRO, they do refine the Protein to some degree through electophoresis but I count a scoop as 20g vs 30g of protein. The bottom line for me is that I can't detect it in my food...that's not been the case for the other 10 protein powders I've tried, so I use the Genepro. -
Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
Bufflehead replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
@@summerset there is a fair amount of controversy about whether Genepro can back up their claims. For example, they claim to get 30 grams of protein out of a tablespoon of powder -- but a tablespoon of powder weighs about 15 grams. A gram is a unit of weight. In this universe, with our laws of physics, it isn't possible to get 30 grams of protein from 15 grams of anything, -

I have got to the point that all I use is GENEPRO Protein powder. Unflavored of course!!! I LOVE my coffee so this just works for me!! I make myself a cup of expresso in my Keurig pot, add some sweet creamer and some FF Half/Half. Like I said it is a WIN WIN for me!! 30 grams of protein and I get to have my coffee too. -
Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
ShelterDog64 replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
@@Didjit I detest the flavored Protein powders, other than a coffee/protein combo I get from Click. I have that one and a canister of GENEPRO and that's it. I've given all the flavored ones (chocolate Splendor, for real???) to others in my support group. I find the belief, by the companies that make this stuff, that cramming in Desserts is what WLS patients are looking for almost offensive. -

It's odorless and tasteless. You can also put it in yogurt..I do something similar. I use 5oz fairlife and 5oz fairlife chocolate with 1tbs genepro and 1tbs PB2. Tastes kinda like a Peanut Butter cup. HW 385 SW 359 CW 338 Sleeved 10/5/16 -
How much protein do you get in a day?
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 30 days post op. I get a min of 60 but aim for 80. In the last week I was averaging 75. My main source lately has been a shake I have for Breakfast made of 5oz fairlife milk, 5oz fairlife chocolate milk, 1 tbs GENEPRO and 1 tbs PB2. Its 242 cals and 48g Protein. It takes me 2-3 hours to drink it, but most cause I forget its there when at work. HW 385 SW 359 CW 338 Sleeved 10/5/16 -

You are not alone with this. Every single person that has WLS has to deal with this stuff. But...like PorkChopExpress said get GENEPRO and add it to whatever you can get down. Focus on your fluids, it sure doesn't take long to get dehydrated. We all promise it will get better every day you will start to feel normal again. Don't be harsh on yourself it just takes time. I had problems with strictures and it started like 1 month out from my RNY...I had 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. I finally thought to myself...what in the hell did I do to myself. Only 1 time I felt like that do you know why because everything that you go thru just makes you stronger!!! Hang in there!! You GOT THIS!!! -

You don't have to do Protein powder as a shake. If the volume of liquid is a problem, start making it like a "pudding" consistency so it takes up less room. Get some of the flavorless GENEPRO protein that is 30g in a one TBSP size. You can mix it with a ton of things. There ARE ways to get the protein and I strongly recommend getting as much as you possibly can while you're healing, because it speeds recovery immensely. Not to mention helping you retain muscle mass so you can keep burning fat more efficiently.
