  1. Sleeved 15 September, dropped about 22lbs since then but it looks like I've also hit the 3 week stall. Not too discouraged as it's coincided with moving to pureed foods and walking 2 1/2 miles to work each day so I suspect (hope) it's partly adding muscle from exercise while still losing fat. My clothes are still feeling looser.

    First Major Stall

I am totally with you. I am about 15 weeks out and have been on a very frustrating 3 week stall. I dont feel like I've changed my diet or exercise other than maybe I should be working out 5-6 days a week instead of 3-4. I also get in about 30-40g of protein a day and am wondering if that's affecting my diet and hair loss. Keep up the good work so far!!

At the 4 week mark and not losing any..

Eat 3 meals a day. No more, no less. Search this forum for 3 week stall. Everyone gets it around 3-6 weeks. Good luck!

    Breaking the 3 week stall!

Im 4 months out of vsg. Here came the 3 week stall. And still stalling. Back to protein shakes, to get my protein in. This is the only thing I can think to do to break this stall. I do know that my clothes are fitting diffrently, just wish the number on the scale would move.

    Any other Canadians out there?

Hi Hottstuff, That is how I read the costs. Check out the complications area - you would probably find the side effects / bad experiences. VSG Complications Support Group - Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery (VSG) Forum I have been reading for the last 6 weeks or so. Everyone seems to have a few days here and there where they don't feel as well, and the 3 week stall that many experience. However, I haven't seen anyone who regrets having it done - even those that had surgical issues. I seem to recall Tiffyicans having had issues - but I'm not sure if it was because of the surgery, or other reasons. There is someone else that had a feeding tube - but again - not sure the details. You just have to read lots. Nancy
  6. I had the lap-band put in in 2002. I did great with it until it started failing me. After 4 surgeries due to slippage, bad port, etc, it had to come out! If I had to all over again, I would choose the sleeve, hands down. Although I'm only a month out with the sleeve, and have been in the "dreaded 3 week stall" for two of those 4 weeks, it would be my first and only choice.

    Thyroid

I have hypothyroidism. My surgeon just required that it was managed with medication. Only a month out and I have already had to get my medication lowered and my PCP says it will likely be lowered a few more times. I am 19lbs down, so in the middle, but I just finished a long 3 week stall. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

    Dallas sleevers

Ellie, Congrats on the successful surgery! Also, it sounds like you have a good handle and attitude about recovery. I am sorry to hear about your throat. That must really hurt, but I guess since your just on liquids now it has a real chance to heal. Still would have been nice for the anesthesiologist to get it right given how much one seems to cost. ???? Keep up the great attitude! Remember there is a good likelihood for that 3 week stall. Just know that you have got this and the weight will start really coming off after your body has some time to heal. It's a marathon not a sprint, but you seem to have a great game plan for success. ????????

    Crying on the bathroom floor

I got a PM from OP complaining that I made her feel like <whatever curse word she used>. All because I told her the 3 week stall was normal and her Dr should have explained her surgery to her better. THIS IS WHY VETS DO NOT BOTHER POSTING HERE ANYMORE.
  10. Liv, you just can't do this to yourself. We didn't get fat overnight, and we can't lose it all overnight. Yes, I know I dropped weight fast, but that doesn't mean I was always happy with the scale. When I had to slow down my loss, honestly, I was kind of pissed when I quit losing so quickly. You hit the 3 week stall, 95-99% of WLS hit that same stall, and it last a minimum of 2 weeks. Like I said, take measurements, do you feel like your clothes are fitting differently? If you aren't sure, go put on the clothes you wore home from the hospital, and I'll bet you money they are looser? If you are following your dietary guidelines, and exercising, then you will lose. If you are low on calories, throw in a couple of string cheeses, toss in another 50-100 calories ESPECIALLY if you are working out. Every time someone stalls I tell them the same thing, keep doing what you are doing, but throw a wrench in the system. shake things up for your body, and give it a little more fuel. You've dropped 25lbs in 5 weeks, right? When in the past can you say that you've ever done that before. I know it took me a minimum of 2-3 months to drop 25lbs, and that was extreme dieting, and killing myself at the gym. Don't give up on yourself, and don't give up on your sleeve. This stall you are experiencing is super normal, it will break, and try to remember you're body is just now healing 100% on the inside. It's trying to adjust to what you just did to it, essentially, it's pissed off at you. You took away a huge part of a major organ, you fed it a bunch of liquidy crap for a couple of weeks, it's missing the donuts, and soda (or whatever you ate, just using those as an example), it went through a traumatic surgery, anesthesia, stapling, poking and prodding. Let your body recover, let your mind rest, and give yourself some credit for your amazing results this far. If you continue on this pace with 5lbs a week on average, think of how quick you'll get to goal.
  11. Yup, completely normal. Search "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" either on Google or these forums and you will find much information about why it happens and how common it is. This won't be your last, either. Best advice is to not weigh yourself every day as to avoid the annoying fluctuations that normally happen as we go through this. I know it's tempting to weigh everyday in the beginning as the weight is just falling off, but soon your body adjusts and the weight loss starts to even out a little and slow down. Keep up the good work!
  12. I had the "dreaded 3 week stall" at 2 1/2 weeks out and it last 3 weeks! You're lucky! I was going crazy! Actually, the carbs you ate probably gave you a jump start! Keep up the good work!!!

1 Month Post Op Gastric Bypass

I had my surgery a week before yours and my weight loss has been slow, too. I only lost 15 pounds the first month, I had my 3-week stall right on schedule, and I'm hoping to get to 20 pounds down by my 6-week follow-up (which is on Thursday). Even though I know that this is a decent weight loss, it is still so frustrating when I see all these people posting who started off at a lower weight than I did and lost twice as much weight in the first month. I guess we just have to be patient. Regarding the shortness of breath, I don't want to raise alarm, but that is one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19. Are you having any other symptoms like fever, cough, loss of taste/smell? Do you have a pulse oximeter at home to monitor your blood oxygen? You can get one on Amazon (or possibly at a pharmacy) and it can help you figure out if you need to get medical attention.
  14. I went to my nutritionist this afternoon. I'm 17 days post op and down 15.5lbs, but no movement on the scale in days. In spite of everything I've read about the 3 week stall I can't help but get worried. She is a lovely woman--but blunt! She said "Knock it off. Your body will release the weight when it's ready. You will not stay at 228.8 forever. It will come off." Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Struggling

Yep, it's your first stall. Don't fret it. I'm in my second stall after almost 5 months. This one has lasted a long time, but I've already lost almost 75 pounds. I hit my first stall right on schedule...the dreaded 3 week stall. Stalls will happen over and over. You just have to go with the flow and keep doing the good stuff...exercising, eating healthy, feeling positive.

    January 2018 Sleevers HERE

There’s really no such thing as a 3 week stall. My dietitian told me I shouldn’t even look at the scale until 3 months out. I don’t own a scale & never have so that makes it easy. I was sleeved on January 18th.

    30-40 grams of carbs??

My 3 week stall lasted ages, in the end I just gave up on weighing myself, my husband said the same, just continue to do what you're doing and wait a month at least to get weighed. I did and my overall results are good, and my surgeon was very happy w my weight loss. I'm a bit more than halfway to goal after 2 months, I have about 38 more pounds to lose. I too have a higher carb intake than most here, I track my intake on myfatsecret.com. My calories are between 800-1000 a day, carbs sometimes around 100. I am trying to reduce maybe to about 50 because I don't want to stall for such a long time again, but i still my need my carbs to function, look after 3 children(10 month old baby included) and go to the gym for a 1 hour cardio workout 4 times a week. I would try to reduce my carbs to about half if I were you, I'm working on that as well! As long as you continue with low calorie and exercise I think you'll start losing again regardless. I do eat the odd cookie, piece of toast, but mostly my carbs come from skimmed milk (which a drink a lot) I eat oatmeal some mornings, some fruit, and basically that. Good luck to you!

    Any December 30th Sleevers ?!

Alrighty. It's been 4 days without seeing much change on the scale. I've stalked the bulletin boards enough to have read about the mysterious 3 week stall but didn't expect it at 2.... At first I thought it was because things weren't moving through and miralax and prune juice assured me that wasn't the problem. I started looking for more "sciency" reasons other than some magic weight loss elf taking the 3rd week off. This is the best sciency reason I could find. I found this http://bariatricfacts.org/threads/the-three-week-stall.743/ - A nice lady named Diana Cox wrote that: A "stall" at this point is inevitable, and here is why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

    Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

I am so happy to announce that I put my scale away this morning.... After getting on it of course. I am a everyday weigher and I have decided not to get back on the scale for 2 weeks. So I "hope" I can stick to it. I figured this would be the perfect time because of the "3 week stall" talk among the boards. I just hope that the scale moves a little while I'm on hiatus.
  24. please search 3 week stall on here. i believe it will make you feel much better...
  25. I have seen posts throughout this site about the 3rd week stall that everyone seems to get, but is there anything I can do to get past this ? Is this just a waiting game? What exactly should I do and how many more times will this happen? Please help everyone. Thanks.
