Anyone keep the surgery under wraps?
Ryan TN replied to mirVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told a few people before surgery. But i also said that. I wouldn't lie about it either. Im down just over 100 pounds from surgery 6 months ago, its impossible to not get asked how'd you lose so much weight. I decided long ago that i wasn't going to lie about that, if they ask, I mention that i had WLS that has made me change the way I eat. Ive found that to be easier rather than trying to remember who i told about my surgery and who i hadn't. To be honest, Im glad i took this route. Any resistance i got from people was all before surgery. Nobody afterwords has said anything negative about it and actually i may have helped a few. Some people ive spoke to has considered the sleeve after Ive spoke to them and answered their questions. -
My friend sent me this list. It is pretty comprehensive....and I've tried (and failed) over 1/2 of them. Weight Loss Diets :faint:

I had my best success with WW, too. I've always said, "If I drank all the water they tell me to, eat all the veggies they tell me to and did all the exercise they tell me to, I'd lose weight. PERIOD." Problem is -- I lose it so incredibly SLOW that I give up and end up just pigging out for a few days or couple of weeks and gain back what I lost. If it doesn't do anything else, at least the band prohibits that sort of falling off the wagon!

Have you utilized a BMR calculator and or TDEE calculator? They can provide some helpful insight. BMR calculator tells you how many calories your body burns at complete rest in a day. TDEE calculator tells you how many calories you burn a day at your specific activity level. These calculators can give you an idea if you're perhaps eating too few calories a day, especially if you're burning more calories than you realize when you work out. Also you mentioned weight lifting, and I was told by my trainer and bariatric surgeon to not lift heavy until I reach goal weight. Something about your body can't lose weight and build muscle simultaneously... so lower weights and higher reps is what I was told to do while losing weight. Best of luck to you! You'll get there! -

A Date to Meet the Surgeon
HOWLUCKYAMI replied to TQUAD64's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi There! I'm from California, too. I'll be having my surgery at Valley Care in Pleasanton. I'm just about a week behind you in the process...I meet with my surgeon on 9/29/08. In fact, I'm doing sort of a 'consultation blast' that day, meeting with the nurse, dietician, psych and surgeon over a 5 hour period in one day. I'm so glad that they offered an all-in-one, as those individual appointments would have really dragged out the process. If I am deemed a candidate, I'll be well on my way! My BMI is 42, no co-morbities but for joint pain associated with my extra weight, and slightly elevated cholesterol on my last lipid panel. Like you, I have Anthem BC. But boy do I have a long history of unsustainable weight loss. Been battling the bulge for over 30 years with little success. Valley Care tells me that they are pretty good about turning around approvals, so I could be banded by the end of November! I am psyched! Good luck to you! -

My surgeon started me on a 6 month Dr supervised diet and i was just heartbroken that I'd have to wait that long to go forward - especially since he said the insurance company doesn't even care if you lose or even gain weight...but my policy must have changed because they called me and said I odn't have to do it afterall. YAY!!!!! So I just need my psych eval and approval and I think I'm golden! I'll find out Thursday when I go back to see him again

Hi I had Dr. Vohra do my surgery last April. The office staff is great with the paperwork & getting things done with your insurance. Trust me they will call back as soon as they see your insurance covers weight loss surgery. I also had Dr. Vohra fix an umbilical hernia at the same time he did my LapBand. He is a great doctor. Very Quiet. Unfortunately I have had a hard time losing with the Band. I am Insulin Resistant & they think that is why. If you have any questions feel free to email me at jenlevy33@aol.com Jen

Please don't feel that you are a failure for getting this surgery it's a journey you have chosen to open you to a new healthy lifestyle. As for your brother ask him to respect your decision to better yourself no matter how you go about it. Don't be sad because it's the best thing you could do for yourself. Losing weight the normal way doesn't always work it didn't for me and it's ok to have help along the way. Be healthy and strong in your decision and find positive support. Good Luck

I live with my brother and just confirmed to him that I would be doing lap band on 7-23-09. And he is mad. he says he doesn't support lap band but he'll support me. We're both obese and he's bigger than me by 100 lbs! I'm 250 and he's like 360 but tall. I'm trying not to be too sad but he's my closest support system. He thinks I'm being lazy and giving up because I'm doing the lap band and not losing weight the normal way but it's not working for me! Any body going through the same thing or have an encouraging word?

Had Gastric Sleeve On Oct/22/12
TheGamer replied to LISA_j's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A pound a day is really good results, I think. I had my sleeve about the same time and I'm seeing similar weight loss. Keep trying foods to find what works for you. I know I was on the phone to my doctor's office just after surgery because the clear liquid diet was not working for me. I couldn't stand the taste of clear protein drinks at all, so I was just not eating. They gave me clearance to go ahead and move my diet up because nutrition was more important than a schedule. There are plenty of things out there (Better than Boullion is probably the best tasting broth I've ever had) that do taste delicious. If you think your body wants it, try a little and see how you feel. If you don't have some unflavored protein powder, get some. You can put it in to foods you find that you like (just don't cook with it, I made that mistake once and ew >.<). Get creative. I know for a while I was putting sriracha in tiny amounts of food because I LOVE spicy things and it was just enough to make it taste delicious -
Happy anniversary & congratulations on your weight loss @Betty1971. Whoo hoo!

Well, i am 6 weeks post op on Monday coming, I've noticed old habits are creeping back in and i find myself munching on slider foods, I can't seem to get all my fluids in or don't kniw what i can cook for myself that would be easy. Im eating slider foods such as crisps, chocos, cake and custards etc only because it's easier to grab and easy to eat. I really need to get back into it. 2 weeks and I've stayed the same weight :'( Sent from my VOG-L29 using BariatricPal mobile app

I went on a long weekend to Las Vegas with a girl friend for a "girls get away" this past weekend. Had lots of fun. She knew I had the surgery and has been a great supporter. As our time went on, I realized how different it would have been if we did this a year ago, pre-VSG. I would have waited behind for her to go run around instead of walking 8+ miles a day. I would have been planning our Breakfast, lunch, dinner, food treats, etc. instead of oops...we didn't get lunch. I would have been planning at least one nap if I wanted to stay up late, instead of going 36 hours w/o sleep the first day. After that about 4 hours a night. I would have felt out of place and awkward around all of the twenty-somethings in the places we went thinking they were looking at me. I think I would have croaked going up and down the broken escalotors around the strip. Instead I scaled them like a teen, and even passed a gasping 12 year old. The plane travel was also so much better. I usually get a window seat. Not only because I like the view, but because it was one less person I was inconveniencing - I could squish against the window. This time it was actually comfortable...dare I say roomy. I stepped on the scale this morning, and I'm 1.5lbs down. Who loses weight on vacation? The changes we go through are kind of gradual even though our clothing is getting smaller. It took something like this to really see what a change it's made to me. It's really awesome.

Hi all, I had a surgery date for GBS and decided that was not the route for me. I since have researched the band and have decided this is a better choice for me. I have met with a surgeon, attended his seminar, and will "officially" meet with him tomorrow to discuss the procedure and to get insurance rolling. I live in Pueblo, Colorado. Dr. James Smith does the procedures here. I am anxiety ridden, but feel somewhat better having made the decision to go forward. Being an emotional eater, and someone prone to anxiety and occassional panic attacks, it is needless to say I feel ...overwhelmed. I am new to Pueblo so have no friends or family here. I will get involved in a support group of bandsters here, and will be actively seeking support...and becoming supportive to others. I am 48-years-old, 5'10" and weigh in at about 270. My top weight was 307. I have been reading a lot of posts on this site and I am impressed. I thank God for each and every one of you wonderful people.

Thanks sooo sooo much for the info. The lady at my Dr. office has not sent my letter to UHC she is going off what her information from past people has to say but I dont know if that is even correct because she first told me I also needed a 5yr weight history which I do then said No I didnt :cursing: So I have an apt with her today so we will see Thanks again I will def call for those benefits. I registered for myuhc but it just says bariatric surgergies will be processed by a care coordinator.
