    Not losing!

I'm afraid because the story I usually hear is that weight loss is most dramatic immediately after surgery and them slows down. If I'm not losing in what is supposed to be the dramatic phase them what is there to look forward to?
  2. Yes completely normal. I had a major breakdown right before surgery the day before. Like how did I get here. It is normal and you should congratulate yourself of seeing so. Good luck with your surgery and weight loss!

    101 lbs gone!!

I am definitely a success story in the making. I have reached a major milestone in my life and one that I would not have made without the lap band. Please see my blog about my journey so far and click to follow. http://thelapbandexperience.blogspot.com/ I was banded 10 months ago and cannot believe where I stand today. I never dreamed I would hit this milestone in less than a year. My surgeon had a goal of 40 lbs a year with a total weight loss of 120 lbs over 3 years. I have always shopped at places like Lane Bryant and Woman Within (when I could no longer buy off the rack at Lane Bryant stores). I have gone from a very tight size 28/30 in pants to a size 18/20. I went from a size 4x/5x (30/32) top to a size 1x/2x (22/24) at a regular store not the specialty plus stores like Lane Bryant. I am shopping at Old Navy and saving tons of cash on clothes. I now shop at least 2-3 times a month for clothes. I am LOVING it!! That is definitely something I would never have thought I would do again. I still have a long ways to go but I know without a doubt I will get there. I am not eating bird-size portions. I don't eat fat free. I eat a salad plate size portion at each meal. I eat eggs every morning pretty much for breakfast. I don't exercise as much as a I should. Frankly hardly at all so I know that if I were to change that I would probably have been at my surgeon's goal already. The key here is I am happy. What I am doing is working for me. I don't obsess about food. I only recognize the foods I cannot eat. Other than that, all is fair game. I have come to realize my whole problem was portion control. I can choose healthier items if I want but I would eat really huge portions of everything. Now I don't. Another milestone for me is that I have not had a single soft drink in a year. March 25, 2010 was the day I stopped drinking soft drinks. I only drink Vitamin Water Zero, milk, juice. That's it. I have no caffeine at all. May 12th will be my 1 year bandaversary. I can't wait to see where I will be at that time.

    Hard, But It's Working!

Starting Day 6 of liquid diet. It's not easy; but I've been fairly active and not cheating, so that 800 calorie limit is making the weight fall off. I've lost almost 10 pounds since Monday! Seeing those results makes it a little easier. I can remember losing a few pound in past and then justifying something I shouldn't eat and undoing most of my hard work. I pray I never again adopt that mindset.

My husband and I in Miami before the cruise.

how long ago did you get your band, and how much weight have you lost. Is it as easy as they make it out to be?
  6. Hey! Welcome! I live in Clarksville and work in Nashville. My surgeon is in clarksville. Most hospitals that provide weight loss surgery have monthly support groups. Otherwise, I use this forum as my online support group. Good luck!

    Vsg Vs. Rny

Do what is right for you. I just found that half of my co-workers have had some sort of bariatric procedure done. The one closest to me told me that I should go ahead and get a RNY becuase everyone else tried the VSG and Lap-Band and ended up having to get a revision. That is probably why his wife got one right off the bat (although I think she would have done just fine with a VSG because her BMI was a couple of points higher than mine). I just don't want any of the issues that come with RNY such as the very rapid weight loss and nutritional deficiencies. I see VSG as more of a tool and not a cure-all. My main problem is not being satsified when I have a meal; after researching which surgery was right for me, I decided that VSG, as opposed to Lap-Band was the way to go. I'm pretty sure that I could have gotten a Lap-Band, but I don't like having any kind of devices in my body.
  8. I am a 52 year old male, I live in Bowling Green Ky and work as a paramedic. I have had a weight problem since I was a senior in high school. I have lost and gained several good sized people using phen-fen, low carb, Nutri system ETC. I had no health problems until a couple of years ago when my blood pressure started to rise and my ldl went up. Now I have a reason to lose weight other than vanity but I just yoyo. I am seeing the doctors at Vanderbilt. I am almost done with the prerequisites for insurance approvel except the support group and I am looking to join a group online. I have tried to find a support group but the only local is on a night I have a class. Has anyone used to online support to satisfy the weight loss group and insurance company.
  9. hi my name is rachell, i had a lapband done in july 08 and so far have lost 42lbs. I am a wife and mom and spent most of my life skinny and active until it took us 3 tries to have our beautiful darling daughter, and then crushed my ankle which was a very long recovery. During both i went 150lbs a great weight on me for my frame where i wore a size 5-7 up to 283lbs and a size 20-22, the surgery center i had it done from doesn't seem to answer many questions for me or offer any support and we are currently fighting with them on billing, while our wonderful insurance paid 100% what we were told would cost our insurance 18k has been billed as 80k. so sorry for the ramble nice to meet everyone and that is my story so far. ps. i seriously miss bread products  rachell

  11. Hi there, my name is Sylvia and I was banded by Dr. Kuri in Tijunana MX on Dec 10th 2001. So far I have lost approx 125 lbs and would like to lose about 30 or 40 more, if I do, I will be at a weight I have not been since high school, and that would have been almost unreachable a few years ago, but I have faith that I can and will do it with the help of my band! I am also the organizer of the 3rd Annual Vegas Bandster Ball to be held at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino (on the Las Vegas Strip) Sunday May 29th/Monday 30th (memorial day)/Tuesday 31st 2005. Registration is now open and early bird registration is only $70 per person, please go here for more information www.geocities.com/vegasbandsterball Due to fire and safety issues, it is limited to the first 120 people, so please register as soon as you can to avoid dissapointment. 8/14/09 goal weight!

U look great! Goal weight something I can't wait to be able to say. It is people/pictures like yours that keeps me motivated and hopeful and reminds me of what Iam working towards.
  14. Welcome Tiffaney! Sounds like you are off to a great start. You might need to up your protein intake to get some energy back. Not the greatest tasting stuff in the world, but it is not horrid, is Zero Carb Isopure, it is in bottles like a Sobe drink, available at GNC,and it has 40g. of protein per bottle. Try to check protein amounts on your broth etc, get some protein powder, I used unflavored Unjury (www.unjury.com) you can add it to most anything. Sugar free popsicles help during the clear stage, and I sucked on SF hard candy---kept my taste buds busy! As you heal, and the weight drops, you will find yourself looking forward to exercising---as hard as that is to believe!! You will be so glad you did this while you were young!!! Welcome--habg out ask any questions you might have---we are glad you are here!! Kat
  15. Hey Lillynushoes Waving from Adelaide to Melbourne  Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm pleased it was a small thing and nothing serious for your husband while in CCU. (giggle at indigestion) As for your experience with the band GOSH it doesn't sound good. The only part I can relate to is the pain when eating a couple of mouthfulls. This only happens when I eat Jelly (the only sort of solid i'm eating at the moment) I can manage about 3-4 spoons then I have to stop casue it hurts, but differently from you I feel full (I think) Sometimes its hard to know. I'm hoping as time goes on I will get a better feel for this. I would be depressed in your situation undoubtedly NO weight loss after 3 months and all that cost and suffering. Tell me has the Dr done an xray to see if the band slipped? I always say trust your feelings, in your case you felt the band had slipped. I would be getting hot onto the Dr in your case and demanding (nicely) answers or my money back. Good luck with your latest fill and weight loss. I guess we have some responsibility to be concious of what we put in our mouths also. I'm too scared to try anything other than solids, if jelly hurts, what is real food going to do? Sorry I don't have an answer re if the band has slipped or not. But my sincerest wishes for your future CHEERS
  16. Hi Femme, It is sometimes very difficult to get your head around the band. I found after numerous trips to the bathroom :wink2: that the only way to eat is to take small bites and then chew and chew and chew and then chew some more. I find that once I take the first three fork/spoonfulls the rest is easy. Before I had the band I used to virtually inhale my food so it was a difficult road to begin with. As for the drinking whilst eating, sorry but thats a big no no. The thing is you will dilute your food and push it through the band quicker than it should go down and as a result you will be hungry more quickly and will not be satisfied for as long as you should be. Do try to eat normal foods just much slower than ever before and don't drink fluids for half an hour before your meals and for 2 hrs after. The optimum time to lose the weight is within the first two years of being banded. Good luck with your journey and keep posting we are here for you.:wink2:
  17. I've been on this liquid diet for 5 days :frown:. My urine is starting to smell like chicken broth :frown:!!!! But, I have lost 10 pounds, so I guess chicken broth is not a bad price to pay........LOL. My starting weight was 239, and today I weighted in at 229. I guess I don't miss the chocolates too much:sad_smile::wub::sad_smile: Can someone please let me know when I'm to start the Protein shakes, and if there is one in particular that you love?? Thanks, and next time I sign on, you'll see less of me:thumbup:
  18. I read Khaliah Ali's story Fighting Weight and it was like looking into a mirror. Several years ago I considered Gastric Bypass and my therapist wouldn't give approval, my employer stopped paying for bariatric surgery and so I didn't give it much more consideration after that. The gastric surgery always scared me, a friend had the surgery over 5 years ago and she has regained weight. I've been working with my therapist and we agreed gastric bypass was too radical. But after reading Fighting Weight, I thing banding is the answer, and it helped me see that being severely obese is a medical condition along with my co-morbidities - hbp, syndrome x, pcos, depression and anxiety. I think I'm better equipped for banding than I was when I was considering gastric bypass. I haven't been able to figure out why I can't get myself to exercise everyday but in the book it was the factor of failing, failing again, not being able to face doing the work and failing, we set ourselves up to fail believing the People magazine yearly article "Losing 100 pounds without Surgery doing it with Exercise and Diet" - what chances do I have losing more than 100 pounds with just diet and exercise. Banding is a tool and I'm ready to use it
  19. I'm ready to leave it up to the insurance company... Today was my final weigh in after 6 months of pre-op dieting. It's not a lot of weight loss, but I'll take it! I'm excited and nervous about the next month or so. Wondering if I should request to have my surgery after my cruise... June 6th. I'm worried about sea sickness and band slippage... any thoughts?:confused2:

    Skin Changes!

I think it could be due to number of factors - the amount of hydration we are gettting - I used to be one of those that just drank coffee all day with milk and sugar. Now, no sugar, limited dairy cept for hard cheeses, more walking, fresh, I quit smoking after a pack a day habit that lasted 28 years, simple meals, very rare for us to eat processed foods now, recuperating forces us to rest a bit. all of the supplements - hah the list could go on and on. My skin is clear but hope my new turkey neck starts to shrink lol. And last but not least happiness and hope at finally being able to shed some stubborn weight makes me glow most days now

  22. Hi I am T. I am a 33 year old teacher. I am happily married with two young children. I have been stuggling with my weight for my ENTIRE life. I am very interested in the lap band and I have made my first step by making an appointment at temple university hospital. One of my friends was banded there last year and has lost 70 pounds. Her success is my inspiration. I am also looking into the Bariatric Clinic in Langhorne, PA...does anyone have any postive or negative information about either place? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!:biggrin2:
  23. I had my surgery done by Dr. Pohl (Johnston, RI) back in 12/04 (I was 34)and had a couple of fills in the spring of 2005. The last office visit was.. lack of a better word, Painful!!! They spent 40 minutes stabbing my belly with a long needle trying to find the "fill reservoir", they couldn't find it since I had a lot of scar tissue. So I ended up having to reschedule and go to Roger Williams Hospital (Rhode Island) and use an X-Ray machine so they could find my reservoir and filled it. That was the last time I saw Dr. Pohl or his office, life got out of balance after that when I went through a divorce, job lose and almost a foreclosure in the next 2 years after that. It was a tough couple of years, I didn't bother with the fills, weight or even a diet, I was just doing whatever to get through life.. Now my life has been rebalanced, I have a wonderful fiancee, great job and I'm finally happy with my life! Now I want to get my weight under control and live a healthy life. I was at 301 (5' 8") when I had my surgery in 04 and got down to 230 in 05. Now, over time, I'm back up to 255, I was eating whatever and whenever I felt like, the stress was killing me and I wasn't exercising either. In time, I noticed that the lap-band doesn't really restrict anything anymore except for when I eat food quickly, it ends up getting stuck and I have to .. Well you know... I can now eat as much food I want without feeling full. For all I know, the lap-band could have stretched or worst, slipped. Do you think the doctor will help me start all over again? I'm not too crazy about Dr. Pohl or the Dr guy who did me fills with Dr. Pohl, but I need to finish what I started! Can I start over with another Dr (any suggestions)? Will I have any problems with fills with my new insurance (was BCBS now it's UHC)? I'm going to call Dr. Pohl's office this week and see what my options are. Anyone ever do this, go a few years without Dr. care and then go back? Any comment or ideas? PS this Forum is great, back when I had my lap-band in 04, there was very little info on it. It's nice to see other people feeling the way I did/do. Christian
