Wow Jen! That was a great story! I appreciate u for the encouraging words. Thank u for the compliments and yes I will be so happy that the weight is falling off instead of gorging food like I used to also. It is true everyone that has this surgery will be faced with food mourning and it's all in how u look at it. I am happy that there are options for my birthday cake(sugar free) and whats funny....that's the only time I eat cake all yr!! And I'm a crying baby over it! Ha! Thanks for all the comments guys, I truly feel better and the count down begins! ☺☺????????

I paid for my surgery myself and did not have too large of a bmi. It was bad but not as bad as it could be so I too am guilty of going through that phase. I wasn't required to lose weight or go on a diet until 2 days before my surgery. I had 4 week long "food funeral". You don't want to give yourself a heart attack a month before your surgery so be careful.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Putting weight back on...truthfully
AR40 replied to AR40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I have a coworker that had it done a year ago and has started gaining. Although I did see her eat chili fries and popcorn today... -
It is massive! i have lost 75lbs. That is modest by some standards, but 1/3 of my pre-bypass body weight. Two things re riding: On my Royal Enfield, max capacity 170kg, my partner and I can both go on it together, but before we were combined a bit heavy! On my Triumph Bonneville, which we use for longer trips with my wife pillion, it used to cause her pain in the tendons at the top of her thighs. Now - not at all. She worked out - she needn’t spread her legs so far apart to get her knees either side of my backside!!! Generally - I am fitter, stronger, healthier. I am walking uphill, climbing stairs, lifting weights a bit - I feel the difference as I fling the bike around.....

Hello everyone! I am almost 5 months post op! I'm down 44lbs but I have had a lot of problems! I went the first 3 month thinking I was getting fills but found out my port flipped.. So I had surgery to have it put back in place. Then I went back in to get a fill and he couldn't find my port. So I had to wait 2 more weeks and go in again under x-Ray! He finally found it and put 1cc in it.. I just got that done yesterday and I'm praying it gives me some restriction! Anyone else have these problems? Am I doing good on my weight for having all this?

@ Tiffykins - thanks for all the info. I had decided yesterday after the hellacious night I had that I was eating Soup today. I notice though when I only try to do full liquids, I'm hungry. Plus I have to ingest more to get the Protein. At least with the puree I'm in pain, but I'm not hungry . I guess it's a little heavier so I'm satied. Granted after about 4 bites I'm pretty satied anyway, but with liquids, I'm hungry again about an hour later. I guess I'm afraid of "overeating" with the liquids, even though I'm only getting in about 4 - 6 oz at a time, depending on how thick it is. I'm going to pay attention to how I'm taking the Nexium and try staying on the full liquids for a little longer to see if that helps. I just wish I could burp on my own. Yesterday, it seemed that drinking Water before I ate, was the only thing that made me burp, but that was more of a hunger thing. I swear, it seems like as soon as I get one stage of this sleeve figured out, it's time to be on the next stage and then I'm back to square one. Yes, I'm losing weight, but this thing is so frustrating. My body doesn't seem to be cooperating with the 'rules' that I'm supposed to follow. I'm afraid winging it is going to do some damage or I'm going to undo everything that I learned over the course of the pre-op. There's a support group meeting on Tuesday, I'm definitely going. I'm so confused about this damn thing!

I'm at the three month post op mark and I feel like my weight loss is at a very slow crawl! The day of surgery i weighted 226 and I am now at 180. YEAY I'm in onederland but, I feel the weight is not coming off as it should be. Is this normal? Or has the head games been getting the better of me? I know I need to be eatting more protein I work out daily and get plenty of fluids. There are weeks where I just stay at the same weight.

((((((((((Rica))))))))))) It does suck. Some people just cannot be happy without putting other down. I know there are people watching me too, just waiting for me to gain back a few pounds so they can tell me 'I told you so.' Don't let it get you down!

Finally broke 200 as of this morning, havent seen this weight since my first semester of college! I was hoping to be at goal by 6 months but that is not happening unless I can get 14 lbs off in the next three weeks. I had a stall for about 3 weeks or so and then just lost about 10 lbs in the past 2 weeks. Pretty sure I can't sustain that rate of loss through the 23rd though! Anyway, I feel great, and for those of you doubting your decision to have this surgery, give it time and it will work for you!!!! I owe a lot of the inspiration to this site so thanks to everyone for being so positive and for posting progress pics!

That will get you full and it will last for a longer period of time. I juice every morning for energy? It's good for weight loss as well.

Nutritionist...
Jessica.O replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are getting pretty anxious! I had to see my nutritionist for six monthly visits leading up to surgery and we didn't discuss grams of Protein, calories, fats, etc! The things we worked on together before surgery were how to start changing my habits on preparation for using my new pouch for example, I had to slow down my eating and take 20-25 minutes to eat each meal. I also had to make sure i was eating three meals a day with no snacking. We talked about what to buy before surgery, what Vitamins I'd need and why, what I could eat during the initial stages post op, etc. The calories and carbs and Proteins will come later. Just slow down. We ALL think we know a few things about eating right because we've done every diet under the sun, read every article, measured our food. We've lost tons of weight! But we gained it back. None of us would be seeing bariatric surgeons if we didn't need the extra help. You need to put your trust in the professionals. It's such a foreign concept to actually practice what they are teaching, believe me I know, but I'm so glad I had those visits. It really gave me good preparation and I think using my pouch is coming to me more naturally than if I hadn't had those sessions. BTW my surgery was just on July 1 and I'm down from 270 to 247!! I strongly recommend finding a surgeon and facility that are a bariatric center of excellence. This means they are held to higher standards. They have to provide comprehensive care and support for long term success. They typically have their own nutritionist with bariatric experience and host support group meetings. I attend one meeting before surgery which was really helpful to me (and my husband). I hope I've helped! -
Fibromyalgia and Sleeve
sharon23 replied to Chris Lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have fibromyalgia and was sleeved on June 14, 2017. However, it's to early to tell. I can tell you I'm not having extra pain from surgery that I didn't already have before, which is one things I was worried about. I'm hoping with some weight dropping off it will be less painful to move and exercise. My rheumatologist says the best thing for fibromyalgia is sleep and exercise. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 -
What to tell work people
SuperblyInsane replied to kooks3003's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am very fortunate to work in a very understanding and supportive workplace. Most know my struggle with my weight and unexpected health complications (Pseudotumor Cerebri). I have openly discussed my upcoming surgery. Not all agree, but are very supporting my decision (while thinking I'm crazy I'm sure, lol). I have to eat with these people every day and in the upcoming months, I'm going to need all the support I can get. I feel so lucky to work with such amazing people. -
What to tell work people
mel2643 replied to kooks3003's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I took a week of vacation and didn't tell anyone at work anything ... I started months prior a high protein diet with protein shakes ... And going to the gym 4 times a week so they think my weight loss is attributed to eating well and working out ( which in a way it is ) -
Advice from vets
seaux_beautiful_vsg replied to seaux_beautiful_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I will always be with myself is honest. I didn't expect this to be easy. I didn't expect it to happen very quickly I just wondered what other's did. My surgeon was very honest with me that my loss would not happen as quickly as some other's because I didn't go into this weighing the most. I did it because I was diabetic and they could not regulate my blood sugars. I have been fortunate enough to go through this with my best friend who had surgery as well and I have not kept it a secret. I've only had one person, my sister, tell me that I took the easy way out but that's because she's fat and she's jealous. Lol. So it's okay. I realize people will have opinions. I don't have to let them bother me. I am actually good with the way the weight is coming off though... I haven't been 184 lbs in a very long time and so to be here at this stage in my life is amazing to me. One day at a time is how this journey will go for me. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. -
I would not hesitate to go to Mexico for surgery. I am also a self-pay patient. I decided to stay in Illinois and pay the much higher price simply because of the availability of family members. But I have frequently used health services abroad to save money and have been very pleased. I have read frequent positive reviews of surgeons in Mexico. I would suggest taking someone with you for the surgery - for support during recovery. I wish you great success in your weight-loss journey (I am on the same journey and will have my surgery in the US in October or November).

I have started the approvals for weight loss surgery and, like everyone else, I am filled with nerves and excitement! I love flowers, especially orchids, and this morning I want to share this picture and my thought with all of you. This orchid is not beautiful today, but it is filled with potential! It cannot rush the process of blooming because the process takes time to work correctly. The best things in life take time and we must (try) to enjoy the anticipation and make the most of the time we are waiting, the period of HOPE. Beauty (health and wellness for us) is coming! I'm not getting surgery until next month but I am dead set on muscle training as I lose weight after surgery. I don't want to bulk up by any means. I just want to avoid that "skinny fat" look I've seen on people that lose 100+ pounds without exercise. I've been exploring options, like getting a trainer. When I was thin (8 years back), I did Pilate's. I wonder if that would give me the muscle definition I'm seeking without getting bulky. I've thought about home fitness equipment, but it would be too expensive and I have no idea what equip. would target all areas. You are right, there should be more talk about fitness/weight training. I think it would be important to do weight training short after surgery. Not sure how long you have to wait, however.

Date Question, And Is There Anyone Who Had To Do Six Months Get Their Surgery Sooner?
Kiki Von Moonshine posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When do they start counting your days/months? I went yesterday, had a consult with the surgeon, was told what to do etc. The assistant told me my surgery would be in July. Yesterday was the 31st. Wouldn't my surgery be in August? How exact are they. I should have asked her at the time, but I forgot. My first appt with my doctor is on the 9th. Then she will start entering weight etc. Also.. Anyone got their date earlier? I guess I don't think it would be possible since it's required for insurance that each month there needs to be a weigh in, but I have seen some people get earlier dates, but didn't ask them how. -
