  1. I'm 3 weeks post op and still have restriction and there is no fluid in my band. At my support group meeting, they told me it's still the swelling of my stomach. I do get hungry every 2 hours like clockwork and need to eat something but can only eat a small amount at a time. Sometimes I'll be hungry an hour later but I'm trying to make that time for getting my water in.

    Newly banded and vomiting--need reassurance

That doesn't sound good to me. Do you have any peppermint tea around? That can help sooth the tummy and help get some fluids into you. Is there a neighbour who can help get the tablets for you? It must be hard with a baby.. I couldn't imagine being able to look after a baby in my first week after my op... hard enough looking after myself. If this doesn't ease up soon I would be banging on your doctor's door for help.

    Just Getting Started

I live in Manhattan, so it's good to see another fellow NYC'er. there are a few of us on here. Unless you are self-pay, you should check with your insurance to see what they will require. My insurance didn't require a 6 month diet or any of that. My surgeon requires the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery (i am currently on day 2 and it's...ehhhhhh not so bad. not the best thing in the world, but i'm plodding along) anyway, if you have great insurance, it will be easier. i went to the seminar in January, decided to actually move forward in late Febuary, and 2 weeks from yesterday, I am having the surgery. good luck to you and keep us posted.
  4. Time did seem like it was flying by until i got to the liquid Pre-Op phase ...now it's crawwwwling along. (i'm only on day 2.) My surgery is May 4th and really less than 2 weeks away, so it is very, very close. good luck to you.

    Surgery this week

Hi Ronnie. Welcome. I was just like you 2 1/2 years ago. Scared to death of the surgery and how my life would change without having food to look forward to. Thing is....I only looked forward to the food because I couldn't do anything else. My hips were so bad that each step was torture. I was so heavy that I couldn't fit anywhere and spent so much of my time on the sidelines. Fast forward to today and I've lost 150 lbs. My hips were replaced and I can walk with virtually no pain. I can go up and down stairs again and with living in NYC, walking is vital. I went to London a few weeks ago and walked all over the city and even biked in the parks. I've got my life back again...better than it's been in years. I'm even in a relationship again..and I never expected that for sure. Like I said Ronnie...I've been where you are so take what I say and know that you will get your quality of life back and see your surgery as a second chance. Good luck and keep us posted.

Anyone in water aerobics post band?

I started aquafit about four weeks after band surgery without any problems. I've continued with it for the last year, going about three times a week. I too also did a lot - A LOT - of walking before I started a regular exercise routine, first with a trainer at home and for the last month at the gym. I now do each of these activities, and much more, and have never experienced any problems related to the band. Lots of muscle soreness and tiredness, but that's all good.

    My journey

This will be about my journey loosing weight after having the lap band. I had it on Feb. 17th 2009. I weigh 244 and I want to get to 150. I am nervous about the whole process. I eat so much and I love food. How will I do? How do I train my brain that enough is enough? I am very sore so far and I am also hungry. I don't get my first fill for 6 weeks. I stay on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. I am hungry! lol I am sticking with it though and doing what I should.

Has anyone tried the Bariatric Pal Food or drinks?

Had the Soups during the first 2 weeks after surgery. Had the hot chocolates for the first 8 weeks as I was not allowed coffee. This week I was allowed coffee and was told no more liquid Protein only food. . Nice idea with the recipes. Thanks for the addition.

  15. Which brand of yogurt did you have if any during the pre op 2 weeks. I'm allowed one a day. This is day 6 for me and I had a yogurt for the first time yesterday. And I started to feel hungry which I haven't all week and later when I came home I got a headache. I can't remember the name because it was odd. You can get it at whole foods. It wa a nonfat 5oz yogurt,100 cal, 0.5g of fat, 5grams of fiber and 14 g of protein and 13g of carbs. How bad was this?
  16. My letter of medical necessity and request for the lap band was sent to Anthem today. I am praying that they do not give me any trouble, but I am prepared for a fight! We will see my dr said to call Anthem in 2 weeks if we dont hear anything by them-- keep bugging them! Jill
  17. Finally, after 6 weeks, I can drink water again without discomfort. I was having to drink crystal light and propel exclusively. I was getting so sick of it. Now I just can't wait until I can chug water after a workout!

    How hungry are you?

Just like Jack, I started to feel hunger at around 6 weeks...which was great because 2 days later I was scheduled for my first fill (which was yesterday)....After my fill yesterday I was very hunger and since I was on clear liquids and couldn't eat....well, I went SHOPPING instead!!! Today is full liquids so I don't have an excuse to shop today, but might go shopping anyway!!! Also, like Jack said, when hunger hits you will know it....good luck....
  19. This was from my post on Friday regarding BMs (or lack thereof) To upcoming bandsters-some possibly helpful info regarding meds Please speak to your doctor concerning the adverse effects that narcotic (at home) pain meds can have on you. Was banded 10 days ago and when I went for my one week post op had not gone to the bathroom. I guess in all of the excitement of finally being on the road to better health I overlooked the fact that I had not had a bowel movement since the day before surgery. No one ever mentioned to me that the medicine used during surgery and the viacodin/hydrocodone that was sent home with me could cause constipation. Believe me, it can and it does. So before surgery discuss w/ your surgeon what type of OTC meds you can use and when is a good time to start using them. I'd venture to guess that if I had realized the situation I was about to be in I would have started Miralax or Milk of Magnesia (acceptable to my doctor) on day 2 or 3. The pain that is associated with the introduction of gas during your surgery will be 10x worse if you can't go to the bathroom. Just something to put out there so that hopefully no one else has to deal with it. I didn't feel constipated either so maybe that is another reason I didn't think anything of not going... Renee'
  20. I'm having surgery on my left arm on the 17th of august, and my right knee is in a brace and having PT for it and my neck which is so not good . I also am wearing a catheter due to bladder retention until september. needless to say i'm not able to do much exercise except for what I have to do for PT on my arm, knee and neck. I'm not seeing much weight loss and think I'm in a stall. i'm so afraid i'm going to stop losing weight or even worse, regain weight. I had my surgery April 13th, 2015 and have lost 50lbs so far (not complaining). Being 57 doesn't help either. I'm making sure I get at least 60-70gms of Protein a day. I'm a picky eater and so I'm concerned that is hurting me. I've had to set reminders on my phone for when i need to eat or snack (i have a brain injury and my long and short term memory is horrible.) I basically have 1 Protein Drink in a.m. with my meds (30gms protein) and then I eat a lot of light yogurt (80 cal, 7gms protein) x 6. sometimes boars head deli turkey plain, baked potato w/chilli, blueberries with almond milk, spaghetti, chicken, salmon, but on days that i don't want to cook it's mainly the Protein drinks and yogurts and maybe something i made ahead of time and froze. All in all it stays under 1000 cal. since i'm not going to be as mobile maybe I should cut back calories? how many calories do you think a couch potato burns in a day? lol cuz that's what i'm going to be for atleast 2 weeks. Has anyone had to put their exercise on hold? and what was the outcome. I think i'm going to be unable to really exercise for a couple of months. They are talking about doing neck surgery next after i've recovered a bit from my shoulder repair. I've also found the strangest thing. sometimes (usually in the afternoon) i find I can eat more than what I typically eat. a.m. is 11oz of protein drink, snack is 1 yogurt, lunch is usually 2 yogurts, my snack is a protein cookie (yuck) or yogurt and then dinner can be more traditional. I'm open to any and all feedback! Kat
  21. Hi all- I was banded on April 27th of this year. I have lost all total (including pre-op) 58 lbs. I am so thankful and happy for that. However, after my last fill, I have lost maybe 2 lbs...and it has been three weeks! I am now not making great choices as far as food ( but not horrible either). I am so frustrated as I am (and have been) about 4 lbs from a MAJOR milestone on the scale. I got on the scale today and it showed I gained about 1.5lbs....from what, I am not sure. A little weight gain from the choices I made maybe but not 1.5 lbs! I am even exercising 3 times a week for 1.5 hours. I would love someone that I could talk to, who can understand, who can be an accountability partner. I can be that for someone else too. Thanks- Jen

    Cravings! Ugh

I know this may not fall exactly in line with your diet plan yet, but I find now that I'm about 13 weeks out (and on a regular diet) that if I'm craving something, it's best to have a little taste of whatever I want. If I don't indulge just a tad, I eat around it. I think - - well I can't have my _____ so I'll have this...then this...then this. And before you know it, I've eaten four times the calories of the one thing I was craving. So I let myself have a very little bit. A bite of something then give it away or throw it away. I'm not recommending everyone do this, especially if your diet guidelines have you still on liquid/mushy. I just learned a long time ago that I'll eat around whatever I'm really craving if I don't give myself just a little.

    Are you eating enough?

I can identify with that feeling, and its one thing I think is problematic with the band becuase I think it keeps you in that dieting headspace. I'm conditioned through dieting my entire life to expecting to be hungry. I spend my entire losing phase convinced I wouldnt lose THIS week becuase I was a piggy and had eaten too much. Even five years down the track, every day feels somewhat like one of those "bad days" from pre band, where you go to bed vowing to do better the next day. I just constantly feel like I havent done well enough becuase I'm full and satisfied. What I tend to do though is not "allow" myself to eat enough at meals and then wonder why I get the bikkie attack at 4pm - the cravings that send me for the chocolate biscuits. Yet, allowing myself to actually eat at that time feels somehow wrong. I'm working very hard on this and am slowly overcoming it. It just doesnt compute for many of us - we cant possibly be not hungry, that means we've done somethign wrong.

    Pain. Possible Slip?

You said it's after your last fill....so maybe it's too tight? As you probably know, for whatever reason it can happen several weeks after the actual fill. Sorry you lost your job, but if you can't keep anything down you need to go to your doctor.
