No worries...yes, i had mine in 2007....i was a self pay...insurance didn't even know what it was back then. I also had it done in San Francisco, and my husbands ex-wife is a bariatric nurse so I sorta had an "in" with a surgeon. When I moved to Vegas 2 yrs later...and even until now I have to explain what it was because people here are...well...to be nice...set in their ways.... Fascinating! After almost 3 years on these forums, you are the longest term sleever I've ever seen! I've seen a lot of long term bypass peeps, like my hubby who is 10 years out, but never a sleeve! So tell me, how is your restriction at 10 years out? What would you say your portions are now? Like me at over 2 years out, I would say my max is a cup, depending on what it is. Honestly...and this is what is so upsetting...my meals are maybe 3-4 oz. total...obviously if im having Soup about the same as you...around 1 cup...thats why i am having such a hard time...I eat like a person who had 85% of their stomach removed...no carbonation...no drinking while eating...I may not get ALL my Water and Protein EVERYDAY...but for the most part I do really well. So to have gained so much back and still have great restriction doesn't make sense... I almost wish my pouch did stretch because at least that would make me eligible for a revision...but as it is there isn't much to revise....

I am considering getting a revision from band to sleeve. Anyone who has revised a band to sleeve, did you do it all in 1 surgery or 2 (band removal and then sleeve?). Have you had success with the revision?- 8 replies

Gastric Sleeve to RNY Bypass Revision ...Anyone had this yet?
GmaDiana replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the revision from sleeve to bypass. The only thing to help me.They also did a hiatal hernia repair as the the other one failed.Recovery was a little more painful than the sleeve. The surgery takes longer because of scar tissue. I had my surgery Nov.22,2016.Still on phase 2 diet.Healing in going good though.I recommend not having a revision from band to sleeve. My Drs said bypass is the only way to fix acid reflux. With sleeve there is a 30 to 40 % of acid reflux issues.Like many i didn't want o go with bypass the first time around because it reroutes things. Had to have the surgery now and so far so good. -
Oh no! It's too late! Don't worry about it. The best person to answer that question is you, and probably not until after you've had it for a while. If the band works for you, then it was the best procedure. If it doesn't work, and for the right reasons (i.e. you are doing everything you are supposed to) it can always be revised to a sleeve. But if it were me, I would not start out worrying I went the wrong route. Give it time.

A band to sleeve revision will not help with acid reflux. The repair before sleeve will not work either.I had Revision from sleeve to bypass because of acid reflux and hiatal hernia repair failure. The bypass is the only thing that eliminates the reflux. I had my surgery on Nov.22nd and home recovering. They did fix hiatal repair again also.so far so good.Have to go through phases of diet again.Still on Phase 2.

SINGING 5 days post op sleeve to bypass revision....or nah?
FDclerical posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey everyone!! I am scheduled for a revision from sleeve 2 bypass on december 27th 2016 . I am 4 years post op and have complications and going to get relief soon. I am supposed to perform with my church on New Years Eve! Just singing a song or two. I am wondering POST OP PAIN how well do you guys think I’ll be able to hold up? I UNDERSTAND it is MAJOR surgery everyone heals different and the reason I am asking is because 11 days after my sleeve I rode from Connecticut to Ohio for my brothers wedding and was dancing and partying all night with my family for a few days. I was fine! I had minor pain but nothing major at all. Anyways thoughts opinions anyone? i heal pretty well. I hate asking questions like this but whatever its random and that’s what the board is here for haha thanks!!!! -

Pre op importance?
Christina.Rose replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
99 lbs on your own is amazing! Very inspiring! I get revised to a sleeve next week. I have lost 18lbs so far from my highest weight but I am whining like a baby about my 3 shakes a day week coming up! Now I have 2 shakes and a low carb dinner and I am already having hunger drama. I am seriously wondering HOW I will be able to do this post op! Im afraid of feeling like I am starving. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App -
band to sleeve (bcbs horizon?)
josiek1988 replied to lori72492's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had band to sleeve revision on 10/26/16. I could not be happier with my decision! It is true that because of the restriction of the band, you may not lose as fast. But you will definitely be able to tell the difference. Just remember, everyone's journey is different and what happens for them may not be the same for you. Follow the rules, eat right, exercise, keep your head up and keep your eyes on the prize. Best of luck -
band to sleeve (bcbs horizon?)
WGH3IWDT replied to lori72492's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the band in July 2013 and like you've said, I did not have much success. The reason was they could never get me in what they call the Green Zone. I was always in the Yellow with little to no restrictions. And I hit the Red one time, that was horrible. I could not swallow my own saliva. Moving forward, earlier this year I decided to go from the band to the sleeve, ESP since my insurance BCBS said they would pay for up to 2 Bariatric Surgeries. I had the revision done on Nov 14th and even though I almost backed out at the hospital, I am so glad that I didn't. I feel the restrictions when I eat and when I'm satisfied and not full, and I've been losing little at a time since I started my Pre-Op. Also, it's said they those who have the sleeve this way tend to list slower than those who did the sleeve without a revision, but I Strongly Believe, if your insurance cover and/or you can afford you won't regret doing the revision. Last, and BEST ADVICE, PRAY AND SEE WHAT GOD TELLS YOU TO DO. I DID THAT AND I BELIEVE GOD APPROVED ME TO DO IT. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App -
Folks that had the sleeve done and put weight back on can do a "revision" which adds the Duodenal Switch portion. I figured with the SIPS/Modified, there CAN be complications, but it was only one surgery, it is 99% effective to getting rid of diabetes, it is the one bariatric surgery that brags about less than 80% of any weight regain after 10 years. The 1 meter common channel in the regular DS takes the weight off fast and you have to be hyper careful never to stop taking your Vitamins, since there is such a small area for absorption, saved for the 50% BMI folks. With a 36% BMI, my insurance approved it for me...(but I have a clever doctor) The SIPS, Modified or a Standard with the 3 meter common channel reduces a lot of the malabsorption, but it still keeps 9 feet of your 28 ft of small intestines,(which is what my dr. did but with a standard DS) making keeping the weight off so much easier. I would much rather take vitamins the rest of my life than insulin, metformin, glipizide, lose my sight, my feet, my kidneys, etc.

@@jazzyjay I'm very conscious of my BP b/c I've had issues for many years & high BP & heart disease runs in both sides of my family. You are new to the high BP family so you aren't as aware of the numbers, lots of people aren't. I bet your Dr will be able to get the insurance to revise the decision after the talk. Try not to stress about it. ❤️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was going to wait until next month when we are 18 months post-op but I thought it might be good to do a check in before the end of the year and also because this is our first holiday season fully healed and I know there is a lot of food temptation at this time of year. How is everyone doing? I have exceeded my own personal expectations, and it seems like I am actually going to make my goal well before 2 years, which I am going to revise pretty soon for a stretch goal of 165 I think. After going so long not eating lots of stuff, I find it very easy to pass things up. Holiday candy doesn't appeal to me. Alcohol doesn't interest me. Even when I get a drink I usually only have one sip and I am bored.

2 months since surgery 35lbs down and depressed
Christina.Rose replied to Boudala's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pictures always depress me. No matter how good I feel, they are mind poison. Just accept that you wont look like that forever and 35lbs is awesome! Im 272 right now HW 291 and I know I don't look how I want but I get revision-sleeved soon and know that I will look hella better then and that I still look better than 291 now. Just keep your eyes forward and maybe dont weigh yourself for a week or 2....no distractions on your plan. Feel better! Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
