The pain has subsided for about 3 days now.. I have gone back to mushy foods only and have been resting a bit more. I see my doctor on Tuesday so we will see what he says! Adding almond milk to the Greek yogurt sounds like an amazing idea!! I would definitely try that it was ok at first but now is just too thick for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Last day of liquid diet, surgery tomorrow!
Butch Luce posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
. Well 24 hours from now my surgery should be in progress. It's been a 1 1/2 year effort to get to this point mostly because of a coronary stent procedure a little over a year ago. Today is the last day of the liquid diet, only Clear liquids, --lookout chicken broth! After the first few days I fell into a routine which I described in a previous post. Basically, I stayed away from prepared food, my wife usually ate by herself, and my new best friends are Greek yogurt, Isopure and Premier Protein drinks, and broth. Watching football games yesterday, the double meat and cheese hamburger commercials were almost too much! Anyway, I've lost about 16 pounds and hope that's enough. Starting weight was 360 and today's weight is 344. You guys just beginning the journey hang in there. If I can do it without cheating you can too! I know the next few weeks will be rough too but it will be worth it if my last years on earth will not be the struggle it has in recent years (I will be 70 in December). I'll give a post surgery report when I can but in the meantime, say a little prayer for me and the others who will be sleeved tomorrow! God bless! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I add almond milk to the Greek yogurt. It is too thick. I am almost 5 weeks out. I eat half a yogurt at a time. Ground turkey made me sick too. Try weight control oatmeal. Add extra water Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I was sleeved almost 5 weeks ago. I am nauseous almost all the time too. Yogurt Protein shakes. Tuna salad chicken salad. oatmeal. Are the easiest. If I eat anything else. It's not good. Tonight I made beautiful lump crab cakes. I ate almost a half of one. Then I felt bad. I have had the foam thing and thrown up too. After eating grilled chicken. Probably too dry. Maybe one bite too much. Maybe I ate too fast. I hope that one day I can say I am happy I did this. But stick to basics. Maybe it takes longer to heal. I am fifty years old maybe my body heals slower than others. Keep the faith Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Four Months Before and After Pics
Adyn replied to Adyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for your kind words. It means so much to me. I was on clear liquids for only three days, then on pureed. My surgeon allowed me to go to the next stage when I wanted to. There were no set time limits. I do go to Orange Theory 4 - 5 times a week and have been going since six weeks out of surgery. I eat the usual Protein foods: chicken, tuna, fish, beef, eggs, cheese, greek yogurt and still have to have a Protein shake daily to meet my protein goals. I was really nervous too. Since the day I decided to have VSG to the actual surgery was about 4 weeks. I went with a private surgeon in Montreal so I didn't need to have any special requirements for the surgery - other than my high BMI. I was a diabetic on insulin and metformin and had sleep apnea. I no longer have diabetes, don't take any medicine, and my sleep apnea is gone. It was the best decision I have ever made for myself. -
I have my Protein shake every morning which I can get down about 3 oz of and throughout the day I am constantly drinking Water decaf tea I have my popsicles and Jello I have tried to eat ground turkey and it just doesn't stay down. The Greek yogurt is also a little too thick that sometimes it kind of comes up like flem which is pretty nasty. I was seen at 1 week and I felt pretty good then. I also wasn't trying to eat any "foods". My dr did suggest that I stay on mushy a little longer so I went back to that but sometimes I still have issues with the mushy foods. Hello all. I'm hoping that I can get some advice or at least confirmation that I'm not the only one having this issue. I had my RNY 7/21/16, so I'm about 8 weeks out. Im back on normal foods, theoretically, but the issue I've been having the last couple of weeks is that pretty much everything I eat makes me nauseous. I've tried everything. Grilled chicken, ground beef, chili, turkey, cheese, tuna, Beans. Nothing seems to sit well, and I'm at a point where I don't even want to eat because it's not worth being nauseous for the next hour. Even thinking about food just makes my stomach (or what's left of it) turn. The only things I seem to be able to tolerate are my Protein shakes and yogurt. And even those are iffy sometimes. Even though it's hard to believe I'm even thinking this, I'm just so tired of feeling like this that I don't even want to bother with food anymore. Is this normal? My NUT said it takes about 3 months for everything to settle down, but this constant sick feeling is driving me nuts. I did not/have not had any post op complications. Any advice on what I could eat or what I should do? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ok surprised you can taste that as I can't, but have you tried the pre- made Premiere protein shakes, I find them more tolerable than the other ones. I know that protein shakes suck, but they are a necessary evil, some people have to just bite the bullet and choke them down, I can tolerate them ok. But if that's what you have to do then you have to do it. Sorry that sucks but it's the truth. Not getting in your protein can cause a whole host of problems. It will slow or possibly stall your weight loss, it can increase your hair loss, it can cause a loss in muscle mass and let's not forget your heart is made of muscle, your heart needs adequate protein to function properly. That's only a few things that a lack of protein can cause there is a very long list. So the facts are until you are able to eat enough to get enough protein from your food which probably won't be for a while ( some people have to supplement with shakes for a while after going on regular food) you have to find a way to choke down some protein, whether it's thru unflavored protein added to things or thru the pre- made shakes as I suggested. I have heard of people adding crystal light to their unflavored protein to make it taste better, you may want to try that, and the Unjury chicken soup flavor has worked for people having trouble with protein flavored as well, I would recommend getting a sampler pack from Unjury first and seeing which ones you can tolerate. But remember you can get creative with your protein. Add your unflavored protein to your favorite foods. I add it to sugar free pudding and yogurt and never even notice it's there.

Help... I really need to poop
aimbow replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the worst constipation. I started eating Greek yogurt daily and I started going regularly. Then I started my Iron pill and it wasn't so easy again. Now I eat a Greek yogurt and take 2 stool softener a day. It seems to do the trick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
We are surgery buddies! I start my liquid diet next Wednesday but it is all clear, no yogurt, cream Soups, or anything like that but at least it is only for 1 week. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

Soft food stage
futurefeatherweight replied to mommaof5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4.5 weeks out and am in soft food stage. I have been doing some traveling and eating out. Some of the easiest things to eat have been scrambled eggs, baked fish, refried beans, egg drop soup- all of which are acceptable with my surgeon. I have to admit that I have also had a couple of bites of lasagna here and there and ate half of a tamale for dinner once when suitable choices were scarce. While the texture of these foods isn't bad, the nutritional value is questionable. When traveling, I also bring a small cooler with greek yogurt and protein drinks in case my tummy gets picky. -
Beating yourself up nutritionally speaking
Alex Brecher replied to LisaMergs's topic in Food and Nutrition
@@LisaMergs, You did awesome! Great job on a last-minute fast food choice! It definitely wasn’t the healthiest possible food in the world, but it was an excellent choice given the circumstances. You got some Protein and kept the calories and carbs in check. Nobody is perfect, and lessons like this are great. They show that you can still come out on top even if you make mistakes, such as in this case not planning ahead and having your own food with you, and not checking the nutrition facts before ordering. Good work! I agree with @@Inner Surfer Girl that most fast food restaurants have reasonable options as long as you stop and think. Grilled chicken, eggs, side salads, and small burgers are usually possibilities – just skip the bread. Also, sides of fresh fruit including apple slices or yogurt are often available. In general, I think it’s good to have some idea of what to order at some of the major fast food restaurants just in case you end up there. I always try to know what my choices are at McDonald’s, Subway, and Starbucks since I figure there is almost sure to be one of those restaurants no matter where I am. I don’t tend to beat myself up over nutrition. I generally prefer healthy foods, and I know that even if I have some junk occasionally, I know that my diet is overall pretty healthy. Anyway, good choice, and thanks for sharing your NSV! -
Exactly, exactly, exactly how I felt. I'm 27 days post op and only started "finding full" within the last week or so. Im certainly not a dr. but my theory is maybe as your pouch heals things begin to really tighten up. Im finding greek yogurt seems to be my filler. Hope it helps. There will still be some hot days this year, but the weather is changing. The cooler days and chilly evenings can trigger cravings for comforting, hearty food, but it does not need to come at the expense of your weight loss surgery diet. Soups, stew, and chili can be healthy and filling comfort foods. You can make big batches ahead of time and store the extras. I also like them because they are super flexible; you can change the recipe to make them with almost any ingredients you have on hand. I like them all, but I think stews are my favorite. They are less watery than Soup, and more comforting to me than chili. I like just a simple stew with leftover cooked chicken, canned tomatoes, and diced veggies, all cooked in broth. You can make it thicker by adding Greek yogurt when you serve it. What kind of soup, stew, or chili do you like to make that fits into your weight loss surgery diet but also hits the spot in terms of satisfaction and taste?

I'm just over 5 months out and down 59 lbs today. 4 of those pounds came off in the past 6 days! I was at the point where I was accepting the slower weight loss when I ran out of my greek yogurt with fruit in it last week. Then the weight started falling off! Couldn't believe it, Now I believe just one yogurt a day was too many carbs. Today I noticed a metalic taste in my mouth a few hours after I ate Breakfast. I did a little research and believe that is a response to my body being in Ketosis, Which would be consistent with the lowering of my carb intake and the super fast weight loss in the past 6 days. From what I read, ketosis is not a problem if you are eating a healthy diet, not diabetic, pregnant, etc. My question is, how has ketosis helped or hurt your journey? Any adverse affects? How long did you stay in ketosis?

I'm 4 months post op but I can only eat about 42-56 grams of meat or fish protein before I feel too full. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt because it's easier for me to get down.

Surgeon keeps saying that its normal and will pass as time moves on. He is really not helpful at all.. im so lost Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App I also had my surgery in August and haven't had the experience that you have had with not being able to eat for a prolonged period but recently I did have a day that started with me vomiting all morning and resulted in my developing an aversion to Protein shakes, Protein powder, and a certain type of multi-Vitamin. I wound up buying a variety of different high protein Greek yogurts and some protein water and just made myself eat what I could. I have found that if I don't eat enough protein, I get weak quickly. At one point, the Greek yogurt seemed too much, so I got some drinkable yogurt. If you are having difficulty eating due to pain caused by eating, your surgeon should address that because you could have a stricture. I sometimes have pain when I eat but it is usually when I have tried something new that takes up more space in my stomach than I thought it would. Have you had success with any foods since surgery?

Nervous about upcoming surgery
Bufflehead replied to Asm0108's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Asm0108 I wasn't allowed fruits and veggies for a pretty significant amount of time after surgery, so my fiber early on came from things like beans and lentils as well as fiber powder and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. Since you have issues with diverticulitis, you may want to discuss your specific needs with your bariatric team so you can come up with a good plan to deal with it. -
I have used them, I am not picky about flavor. I mean it is a shot, just do it. They are called new whey I believe. They are a mix of three types of protein, collogen as mentioned, whey, and I cannot remember the third. You know that your body cannot take in more than 30grams of protein at once, so no matter how much protein is in the shots, you 't all of it. Good news is they make another one that is a 28 gram shot and cheaper. They are strangely thick if you refrigerate them, which might make some dislike them. Search the internet you can find a case of 12 of them for under $24 I believe vitashoppe of something like that, then search the sites name and coupon, most of the time you will find free shipping, or 10 percent off for most sites. My doctor says they are ok in a pinch but certainly there are better sources of protein. He. question how much you might be able to use of the protein in them, he said figure about 18grams for a shot. They have 180 calories. I make a gallon of Walmart apple drink (2 bucks for 6 packets, 2 to a gallon) then I add Nector apple protein, 4 scoops, fill 4 empty G2 bottles, place in frig. I sip all day on them, 2 is 64 ozs of water, check, and 50 grams of protein. Have some greek yogurt, cottage cheese and you are there! I flavorless protein, add it to cottage cheese, or decaf coffee iced

Grocery List Suggestions?

what did you eat or add into your diet at 3months post op? please
Bufflehead replied to 4u2nvyme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was three months out, I was still on soft foods (have to be able to cut easily with a fork), and ate according to the directions from my bariatric team: --3 small meals per day --no grains, starchy veggies, sweets, tropical fruits, or liquid calories other than Protein shakes --minimum of 75 grams of protein per day --no Snacks other than Protein Shakes So that basically meant lots of: meat, fish (especially tuna, salmon, sardine, shrimp, scallops, mackerel), eggs (every day!), avocado, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, lentils, small amounts of nut butters. Those were the mainstays of my diet. After six months I was allowed regular texture foods and added in green veggies such as asparagus, green beans, and broccoli, as well as some fruit like apples and strawberries. I still had the same dietary restrictions in terms of no grains, starchy veggies, sweets, liquid calories etc. until I completed weight loss phase. I stuck with the program and finished up 200 lbs lighter and at goal, so I think the plan my team gave me worked well for me -
