  1. Good luck. I am 10 days post op and and feeling better every day. Not a day has gone by that i haven't lost weight. I am down 12 pounds so far. My biggest problem so far has been diarrhea and fatigue. Good luck to you!

    Damn. Back to clear liquids!

    Every doctor does have different eating plans. But just because they say to do it doesn't mean you have too. In my case at 19 days post op there is no way I can start purees yet, my body does not feel up to it yet, so listen to your body. My NUT is on board with this and says some can take 4 weeks to get to purees. Also I hear chicken should be the absolute last food to try, some say that canned, like tuna, may be easier. Stick to pureed eggs, tuna, soft fish, beans, cottage cheese and yogurt.

    Starting to feel normal!

    Ok, so today is the first day that I'm really starting to feel back to normal....very happily. Went for a walk...a short one, got a mani/ pedi, blew dry my hair, shaved the legs...all the grooming rituals that have been put on the back burner for the last 10 days! I'm also down 25 lbs today since I started the pre-op diet. So feeling pretty good about things. Two things that I think are odd about myself right now: One, I find great comfort in watching the food network constantly. I love to cook (and eat) and am growing a veggie garden now so I've been thinking of cool recipes. I have been watching A LOT and seem to be somewhat sated just watching these yummy things being prepared...I don't necessarily even want to EAT them....just a bit strange the whole thing. Number two and even weirder is that I'm having very vivid dreams about food. Have had two (so recurring) dreams about home made peach ice cream (which I'm not sure I've ever even had) and last night I was molesting a Big Mac! I'm a vegetarian and have never been a huge fast food person (although do have very fond food memories of McD's cheeseburgers during my meat eating years!) Anyway, a bit weird, but all in all things are good and I guess we all handle these changes a bit differently. :crying:
  4. I was banded in december, I initially lost 56 pounds all together during this process. I get such small fills each time I see a dr. I only get a .3 fill, I'm getting one tomorrow. I'm only up to 3 cc's in my 10 cc band. I feel frustrated that the process is so slow, I feel almost no restriction except in the morning. By the end of the day I cant seem to feel satisfied unless I overeat. I have been exercising more than ever, Im walking a 2mile trail 3 times a week. I am hungry all the time. I know that part of it is that I havn't been as good with dieting. But the Protein shakes do not fill me up and I am hungry right after drinking one. I have depression and it gets so bad sometimes that I break down and eat the things that are easy like ice cream or chips. I KNOW I SHOULDNT EAT THEM! I cant seem to stop myself. I end up hating myself and lose the motivation even more after I cheat because I feel like "whats the point?" What are your suggestions? is there like a support group I can go to? Am i the only one who feels like I am failing? The worse part is the feeling when I have gone into the Dr's the last 2 times and have not lost weight and I feel like shit
  5. I tend to not answer specifically anymore. I've been in my goal range (BMI of about 23) for 5 months now. 1 month ago I decided to go ahead and take off another 10 pounds, which will put me at 135, or 21.8 BMI, (still right in the middle of the healthy zone). The comments are starting up again, (just got one today), as I've dropped 5 of those last 10 pounds. You know what? No one needs to know what I weigh today, any more than they needed to know when I was 235 pounds! I usually say, "Thank you, I've never felt better in my life and my Dr. is pleased with my progress!" It's kinda funny... WE have body dismorphia and feel bigger than we are. I think our friends and acquaintances have it too, in the OTHER direction. They've seen us big for so long, they can no more see what "healthy" looks like than we can.

    Orientation!

    The orientation was very informational. They talked in depth about the rny, sleeve and briefly about the lap band. A nutritionist came in at the end and spoke for 20 minutes about what our diet should be like starting today. If we want to go forth with surgery we have to lose about 10% of our weight. They use our highest weight recorded and every pound after that counts! I set up a consultation right after the orientation for the end of the month to meet with my surgeon, dietician and coordinator. Are you going through kaiser?
  8. I'M OBSESSED WITH MY COLLARBONES! I'm just shy of being a month out (I make a month on the 14th). I've lost just about 30 pounds so far. I'm basically on losing a pound a day. My collarbones are now showing! My face has gotten noticeably smaller and I've been getting all of the compliments! My aunt even asked if I photoshopped my face on one of my pictures! Yes, I take that as a compliment. My body in general looks smaller, my breasts are pretty much gone with the wind but my booty is still plump! I guess since it's hereditary! I can fit a medium/large now in pants and shirts. Depends on the material. My legs are smaller, stomach smaller, I'm just so happy. 10 pounds away from the 100s!!!!!!!!! I've been toning my arms and legs and I've been walking at the park and on the treadmill at the gym. My diet now includes grits (but not often), oatmeal, red potatoes, cooked vegetables, canned fruit (light), diet gatorade, green tea, crab grape juice. This weekend I add boiled and scrambled eggs, multigrain crackers, Melba toast. Next week I add baked salmon, canned tuna, stuff to that nature. I've been doing really well, keeping everything down. Only thing I really loathe is those damn Protein shakes! I'm just so tired of them. I'm supposed to be at 60 grams a day and I'm getting at least 30 grams. But today I started drinking on premier Protein shake in the morning, and I'll have one later during the day. I get really really really fast. Like after about 5 small spoonfuls of grits or I can eat about 3 pieces of red potatoes. I'm still having problems not drinking with my meals. food makes me thirsty! That's pretty much it though, I need to start my Calcium Vitamins today also. So that's on my to do list. Well wishes!

    a little concerned ...

    This is interesting to me because it is close to what I went through. I was banded on 10/22 and during my week of clear liquids I lost 6 pounds but as soon as I switched over to the creamy liquids I gained that six back plus 4 pounds in 2 weeks. I was keeping on the planned eating list and not cheating in anyway. At one point I had a breakdown and just cried and had to be comforted by my husband. After the first week back on solids I lost the 4 pounds and the second week I lost the other 6. I think the creamy foods were just not for me.

I am about 10 weeks post op and I found that Greek Yogurt mixed with one or two sugar substitutes and spoonfuls of either sugar free grape or strawberry preserves is really very good if you like yogurt. I, too tried baby food, and hated it. I also bought some low salt and "healthier soups" with chicken and egg noodles and put those in the blender and they were good as well. Of course the old standby is a scrambled egg or mashed tuna or chicken salad or egg salad. I hated low fat mayo, so I just used regular mayo. So far I am down 35 pounds. Good luck!

  12. Day 19 post-op and so happy to be here. Until September I'd never heard of a sleeve gastrectomy and was not looking at doing bariatric surgery. Being overweight/obese most of my adult life I assumed I'd carry the burden and the health consequences to my grave. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2004 and have done a fair job of losing small amounts of weight, eating clean food and staying active BUT not enough to stop it's progression. At the age of 54 SO much of my mental energy has been spent on what to eat, how to eat it, shame over emotional binges, isolation due to my size and downright self- loathing. Several people I know had the Lap-band and I was curious about it. I got on the internet and Googled surgeons in the Dallas area (not my home) and filled out a form requesting information. That same day I got a call from a representative of Dr. Nicholson's Clinic and shared my heart and they offered a solution/tool in a Bariatric Vertical Sleeve. To make a long story short I planned my trip to Dallas for an informational class and personal Dr. consultation. I was sold and set my surgery date for Oct. 18th, 2011 at Forest Park Hospital, Dallas, TX. I was about a month out of surgery when I started doing some research and asking different questions. Because I live on a ranch an hour drive from any medical services the sleeve is an ideal choice. Three weeks post op the risk of surgical complications are nil. That has been a big peace of mind for me. I started my pre-op diet on Oct. 4th and found it to be a bit of a struggle. I despise sweet, milky drinks and gagged down Slimfast, HoneyMilk and Carnation Instant Breakfast Sugar Free. I did not know about the Bariatric Advantage Products or Unjury.....boy I wish I had. If I had one piece of advice it would be to hunt like crazy till you find something that you find pleasant and drinkable. It will make the days after surgery much less stressful. I've since ordered some of the above products. During this time I also meet with the psychologist, nutritionist and went through the pre-admit process. The whole time I wasn't sure I would go through with it. The Nicholson Clinic is really good about letting you know that you can cancel or delay until you are ready. Even the night before going in I was not sure. So many changes, so much to give up, so much unknown. It was by faith and the grace of God that I made it to the OR the next day.....and sooooo thankful that I did. My check-in was noon on the 18th of October. It went smoothly and I was in the holding area shortly after that. My husband went with me and was a huge support. It is good to have someone with you. Being dehydrated made some of the IV stuff a bit trying but that was over quickly and I was resting when the anethesiologist (sp) came in. I'd had a horrible cold the week before and had a nasty cough. He promised me he would get that cleared out and he was true to his word. Don't remember a thing after he injected a relaxing med into the IV. Woke up being moved to my bed. The whole day I kept dozing off and dreaming that the surgery was the next day and feeling the dread. Then I would realize it was OVER and feel utter elation. The 24 hour hospital stay is a bit of a blur. Good drugs. I will say that it was challenging to get up and walk regularly, not drink, and battle a crazy head hunger. I just wanted to eat big bites of some comfort food like mac and cheese or enchiladas. I thought I was starving to death and ask myself what the heck had I'd done. It was an internal battle. I'm not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience but it has really reinforced for me the need for the Sleeve surgery. It will be the tool that helps me finally overcome obesity and achieve my goals in life. It's just too short to waste sitting around in a love affair with food that doesn't love me back. Leaving the hospital and going to a hotel in the area worked out fine. I slept and sipped. On day three I was able to stop the pain medication and Tylenol...both were so sweet and gagging that I did better without. I used ice packs on my left side and it seemed to help. I must say that the pain was more than I had expected but not anything to keep someone from doing it. If I could have choked down the meds I probably would have taken them a few more days. Also, do practice sipping before your surgery. I used the one ounce cup for a week before just to get the hang of it. A week post-op and I was able to drink at just the right pace without thinking about it and loved feeling normal again. On the 8th day I flew home and had a 2.5 hour car ride. It went great and there is no place like home! I really began to heal quickly once I was in my own home. I've been following the Dr.s orders as well as possible and was back in Dallas for the 2-week post op exam. I've lost 22 pounds, yea, and can begin soft foods this coming Tuesday! Hello scrambled eggs! One note, I had really felt sore on my left side and was concerned that there was a problem. Turns out it is text book for week 2 due to the healing process and increased activity. This may not hold true for all Dr's patients but for Dr. Nick's he adds extra stitches in the left side muscles and they begin to pull. Who knew? Living in an isolated area it was recommended to me to find an online support group. My nutritionist suggested this one. I look forward to this part of the journey! It will be a pleasure to hear about each of your stories and learn from the experiences of others. There is no time like NOW! Source: Day 19 and I Can't Stop Smiling!

I’ve been told I chose from: Advant Edge Carb Control Ready - to- Drink shake Isopure Zero Carb ABB Pure Pro clear Liquid Protein supplements Once I begin Stage 1 Clear liquids - protien supplements I’m allowed to chose from: unjury, nectar, ABB Pure Pro, Ispure Zero Carb Once I begin Stage 2 Full Liquids. I can chose from - Unjury or EA Advant Edge Carb Control Has anyone had any of these? If so, which one did you prefer? How long did 1 bottle last? Thank you!

    Soreness

    I was banded 1/10/08 and I'm really not that sore anymore. I'm having more trouble with the Gas!!! I can't seem to get it to pass. My shoulder and chest and back around the rib cage area are killing me!!! I went back to work yesterday. Good luck I hope you get to feeling better soon.

    RNY to RNY revision.

    I also will be having RNY revision very soon, but my original RNY was done 30 years ago. Over 10 years I regained all I had lost. Both my pouch and anastomasis stretched. We won't lose as much following revision, but It will get us closer to "normal" BMI. There has been much progress in the technique and protocol since even 2010 so I'm optimistic.

    starting to get cold feet

    My surgery is Monday as well. I had my pre-admit appointment at the hospital today but I'm not getting cold feet. I am so ready for this to happen. I'm tired of being fat. Tired of having to pay extra money for larger size clothing, shoes and jewelry. Tired of not being able to cross my legs. Tired of not being able to buckle the seat belt on the plane. Tired of hurting when I bend over to tie my shoes. I am tired of the lack of sleep I get due to snoring/sleep apnea. Im tired of being tired. With the upcoming weight loss... I am going to feel better, I am going to exercise, and I'm going to feel good about my self again. Yep... I'm ready for Monday and no cold feet for me. I've had about 10 surgeries in my life and came through all of them with no problems. I don't anticipate having any problems with this one either. I have selected an excellent facility and an excellent surgeon. I got this one.

    when they tell you you have been approved they will than connect you with Dr. Marsden Office at that moment . Dr. Marsden will require a 10-14 day pre opt diet but his is not bad 4 oz of lean meat 1/2 cup of veggies and a small breakfast such as a muffin, protein shakes

    Tiffykins! Give us an update girl!!!! When did you have the baby? What is sleeve post-partum weightloss like?? I'm 18 months out and have lost 130 lbs, I am a slow-a$$ loser though, I should have lost 150 by 10 months out and should have been at personal goal of 165 lbs lost by 1 year.

    I too was a smoker prior to having surgery. I am 45 and started smoking at 16. I have not smoked the entire time, there were spans of several years of not smoking and then a traumatic event would occur and smoking, along with food, would become my crutch to make it through the trying times. I quit smoking Sept. 1st and was sleeved 10/23/13 and have not missed the cigarettes that much. When I do, I remind myself that I underwent WLS to better my health and why would I want to sabotage that by putting tobacco back into my system. Good luck in your weight loss journey, whatever your decision, but please try to remain nicotine free.

  22. I had my preop appointment. It went smoothly, as I left I had to schedule my follow up and went to the desk, she asked what surgery I was having, told her and she said ok let me see what we have available on Oct 16th.. Ok but what about my 10 day appointment. Oh you do not need one. hmm are you sure. Yes. I said then why does all my paperwork say to schedule the appointment for 7-10 days out. Oh that is wrong. Can you please double check? She did and I was right.
  23. Even if you DO stretch your stomach a bit as long as you're making healthier choices for foods I don't see you regaining much. I mean 5-10 pounds is pretty much normal for regain so if it happens just try to work to get it off and I'm sure you'll be able to do it eventually. Rice swells though after you eat it so it can potentially lead to your stomach stretching. That's the reason my surgeon advised us to not eat rice anymore (I use cauliflower rice as a substitute). But if rice is something you don't want to give up you don't have to. Just know that it CAN stretch your stomach out. It was ADVISED anyway. The choice on whether to add rice back into our diet is very much our own. For me I eat mostly in the morning as I get sooooo hungry after taking my thyroid meds, but the rest of the day I basically have little to no appetite. I talked to my nutritionist on Monday and we went over my diet and I unloaded about how I ate mostly in the morning and I ate a LOT in a 3-4 hour period and she said that I was doing fine and stressing over nothing as my weight loss has been steady and I'm not going over my carb, fat, sugar, etc. limit and I'm getting my protein in like I'm supposed to. Apparently my metabolism is most active after I take the stupid thyroid meds and decides to sleep the rest of the day lol
  24. I have a 5 and a 6 yr old. My son walked in the house the day I got home from the hospital and asked me was I still fat. I was like what! And he repeated it so with my quick reflexes I asked him was he still fat. He's a joker so he says yes. But it took me about 10 min to calm down and I talk to him and apologized but I also let him know how rude he was. I'm staying with my mother in law so I have lots of help but my husband has surgery on his ankle on Tues so we will both be cripple. Love my mother in law.
