    What Is Everyone Eating?

I was sleeved 10/16... I eat pretty randomly so bare with me . Today I had a half of a double tall skinny peppermint mocha from Starbucks on my way to work. Mid-morning snack I'm currently having peppered turkey breast from the deli. For lunch I'm having 1-2 oz of deli chicken, a mini babybel light, and a triscuit (yes one). I will get home late tonight because I have an appointment after work so before I leave work at around 3:30/4 I'm going to have a sugarfree tapioca pudding mixed with unflavored Protein powder. I probably won't eat dinner tonight because of my late night - I'll most likely go home and drink a Protein shake. As for ideas... my usual go to lunch is deli meat and cheese on a triscuit (I call it the bariatric sandwich ) or deli meat smeared with laughing cow light and no triscuit - sometimes I microwave it for a change. Dinner, I eat whatever I serve my family - I just get only a taste of the sides and fill up on meat first.

    Drinking too much water?

I had the same concern, I felt like Water went down very easy after the first few days. I emailed my Doc/nut and was told water empties very fast, but to have no more than 4 ounces in 10 or 15 minutes, as that is about a brand new sleeve capacity. I know that each Sleeve/Surgeon/person is different, but I had to pace myself so I wouldn't drink a bottle of water too fast.

I was at the patio chairs at side of Starbucks by grass. I would occasionally get up and look around for people and check the patio right outside Starbucks door. I arrived at 6:10 and waited until 7:30 before leaving. I was by myself the entire time. I never cancelled and am truly confused as to where the idea came from. The location issue is another reason why iam sure arch of a better meeting spot. The spectrum is nice but parking is difficult.

    Stomach pain above port

I had an infection at the port site as well. I could not even bend over to put on socks and shoes, but after 10 days of antibiotics it's all gone, and I can exercise again.

    First few weeks? Failure?

Thanks. I guess I'm more disappointed than feeling like a failure. If I randomly said I lost 8-10 lbs in three weeks, I'd be happy. I haven't lost ANYTHING since the immediate post op shock. On the calories it seems I should have lost more. Anyway, I might be feeling a little down because I befriended a VSG surgery the same day and she's down 18lbs, but more importantly she's lost consistently for weeks. I feel like I'm eating too much for this early out. What was your experience?
  9. This pouch is wonderful! It allowed me to minimize all my portions, and the thought of eating huge helpings because it was something I used to love, just made me sick. I survived Christmas Dinner this time, thank you Mr. Pouch for assisting me SD: 10/10/12, Converted from Lapband to RNY, HW (before band) 263, HW (RNY) 230, Preop 219, after surgery 223, CURRENT... 191YIPPEE!!

Sorry it has taken me so long to summarize the last meeting. I was out of town again. I have attached PDF's of my Dr's nutrition info. Lots of info. We discovered that some Dr.s don't provide detailed info. Please use as a guide and follow your Dr's instructions. We also talked about goals and how they should be SMART, see attached pic. If I say I want to run a 5k in 4 weeks and I've never run before, that wouldn't be a SMART goal, not realistic. We can expand on this more later. We also talked about being on track. For example if your goal is to drop weight and you are consistently, then what you are doing is "working", if not then you need to change what you are doing. I had my first "overeat" meal on my vacation. I had my first hamburger and it was delicious. Well I ate way too much and had to run to the bathroom to toss my Cookies, the rest of the night I felt gross. I learned my lesson. I also ate a bunch of crap I shouldn't be eating. Vacation over, time to clean it all up. Next meeting August 19 6:30 pm at patio outside Corner Bakery in Lake Forest off El Toro Road in Orchard center. I may not be there but I will give some info. Hopefully after the summer is over we can meet on a more regular basis, like twice a month. WLS basics.pdf WLS phase 1.pdf WLS phase 2 and 3.pdf

what to tell people at work

I actually told almost everyone at work (about 10) individually that I was having the surgery. This was after I had a date set and was getting ready to be off. They were all thinking I was preggo because of all of my "dr appointments". LOL. So, I handled each peron directly so that if they had any questions they new I was there to answer them. Also, if I told everyone myself, I didnt have to worry about others telling. I know that this kind of thing just gets out so I started it myself. ONe funny thing: The monday after I came back to work there was a huge article agains bypass surgery on the front page of the newspaper :w00t: so, everyone was like, did you read? But, everyone is very supportive and it is nice to have people constantly telling me I am doing good
  12. Hi, I'm 37 years old, married, mother of 3 beautiful girls and have been overweight my entire life. I remember being in kindergarten and realizing then, that I was bigger then everyone else. I attended my first Weight Watchers meeting at the age of 10 and have been fighting this battle ever since. I have completed my pre-op requirements and have been scheduled for surgery on May 10th. I'm excited, scared, but most of all ready!!! I guess I'm more afraid that I will fail at this attempt to lose weight as well as every other time I've tried. I have read over many posts and have been both educated and encouraged as well as, a little afraid of what all of you have written. But I feel that the more information I have, the more equipped I'll be for my journey. I look forward to reading more of your posts and seeing the successes, as well as posting my own successes.

    Rewards For Weight Loss

i'm going to put $10 per pound i lose in cash in an envelope: shopping spree as i need new clothes.
  17. It does sound like part of this may be head hunger - what do you think? You may not feel the reflux but i have heard that people don't experience it as reflux but as a feeling of hunger. I take Prevacid and it works for me, but there are many, many options - this may be worth a try as it is a very common post-op issue. I don't know if you would see the results after just one dose or if it would take a few days to show if it helped. Perhaps speak to your doc about this issue, too. He/She would likely have an opinion and might even prescribe an acid reducer. Yes. Water, water, water. I never feel thirsty... But I feel very very hungry if I don't stay on top of my fluids. At 5 months out I get 9-10 glasses per day. I aim for 600-800 calories daily, but it took me a couple months to get there. And your Protein sounds low compared to what I've heard you should aim for... turns out every doc is different though so it may be that you are in the recommended range for your doc. Good luck!

    Weight loss normal track?

You are both faster losers - I have been told that 20 lbs. is average for the entire first month. I lost 30 lbs. my first month and my surgeon was blown away, so 20 lbs in one week - AMAZING. 26 lbs. in 10 days also amazing!
  19. I don't feel hungry. But I do feel weak. Im working on getting in my Protein and fluids. I'm doing okay with the liquid diet, Im just tired of it already and have never liked shakes and smoothies,... so I sometimes just don't have them. I freee them into pops though and I can have them that way. It's a battle any way you slice it, as we all know. My doctor was never specific on any of this, but it is really bothering me. im supposed to sip all day between meals, but if I can only hold a few oz, how is that okay? also, when do I stop eating? I can eat about 4 oz before I really just dont want any more. i am not full sick, or sick at all, i just cant bare to take another bite. is that mental? is that my body telling me im full without a physical sign but a mental one? there are no signs that i am full, but at about 4 oz, i just shut off i guess? head hunger is hard. i had a few bites of cooked ricotta cheese and sauce from the lasagna i made today. (i'm on fll liquids and doc okayed easing into soft foods, so technically not a "cheat" but i feel guilty) it was yummy, but i feel guilty. when am i supposed to eat? i wasnt given a meal plan. i dont want to eat a "meal" because i want something to do. i need a schedule but i dont know what is appropriate. the nutritionist didnt give me a post op example for the 600 calorie diet, only the 1 year post op diet. for example today i ate 2 oz of a Protein shake, then three hours later, 4 oz of yogurt, then two hours later, 2 oz of sauce, then three hours later 3 oz of Soup. it was about 250 calories. obviously that is not 600-800 a day. am i supposed to eat more?
  20. Doctors speak in generalities based on statistics of large populations. But YOU speak for YOU. Your individual strengths and desires determine the amount of weight you'll lose. Don't worry, I need to lose 210+ lbs to get to a healthy BMI, so I'm taking the journey right along with you. 207 for me. That's too big a number to focus on. I just focus on the next 10lbs. When I lose that, the next 10. My current goal is to lose 10 more by August. After that I'd like to be at 100lb+ by my 1 year anniversary.

    Just had intake appointment

I agree with @MargoCL so much. The first clinic I went to (not as medical as claimed) was going to fast track my surgery for 3 months. There was a very limited concept of prep. They also kept focusing on how I was gonna die young because of my weight and forged a lot of false conditions in my chart. I left them after 2 visits. Second place was associated with a hospital, they were doctors, weight management and endocrine experts, by the book, and helped me pace myself by learning (and unlearning) during my 6-mo insurance mandated period. I learned SO MUCH st a speed I could consume it. All of those questions you had, I had. The time frame really wrapped my head around this. I joined this group three months into that process. Once I found my stride, from April to September - I lost 28 lbs on my own (including vacations, dinners out, and more cooking at home) BEFORE surgery. It wasn’t easy and my family and friends know that. I learned what protein rich meals looked like. I learned how gooood healthy food can be. I met with my surgeon 3 times and my psychologist who prepared me for: (1) deciding on this step (2) side effects to consider and hobbies to start/maintain (3) options for support since my loved ones are 3,000 miles away (4) managing other people and how to not care (5) how to get help if traumatic memories resurrect. You have to do what’s right for you, but I’ve been in those shoes and I could have easily posted your post in February when I started. Just know that whatever you decide, choose health. You want to make a change - make the change that’s right for you. And BTW, it’s *not* easy. Once you put in the pre-surgery work, you’ll soon realize that. Lastly, my mind wasn’t TRULY made up until the week before surgery. In March, I said “I’ll go through this prep time and see how I feel. If I feel like I want to continue on my own AND BE SUCCESSFUL, I’ll call it off.” But the most important thing was to just start. I knew I’d need a support group no matter what though. I realized that I wanted to be out of pain and wanted to be able to start working out again. So, I was sleeved 9/19. I’ve had some recovery bumps because of co-morbid conditions, but my plantar fasciitis and knee pain is gone. Good luck! 🍀

    Head cold after surgery

I am three and a half months post op and have had a bad head cold for the last 10 days. The last time I remember coughing this hard I actually had pneumonia. I am on the mend now, so not worried about pneumonia, but the cough is very deep feels like its coming up from my boots. Fortunately hasn't had any effect on my band that I can feel. In fact, the cold has made me less hungry than normal so that's a bonus. I am working on cardio-type activities to improve my lung capacity again. Good luck with your journey

    TMI ? REGARDING GIRL TALK

I had mine 3 days after surgery and now I'm 10 days late. Never been late before. I'm not prego and I know losing weight effects hormones but I don't like this waiting and wondering when ?
  24. Hi- I have been keeping a food diary on the journal that the Dr gave me. I have getting 600 to 800 cals a day and 40 to 53 grams of protein daily and keeing the fat grams down to 10 or less. I am not getting in but 32 to 48 ozs of water daily. I haven't had a period in over 10 years as I had all my female reproductive organs removed. I will up my water intake and see if that helps (lets hope). Thank you :-)
  25. I had my sleeve on Oct 5th, I lost 11 pounds during my 2 week pre-op diet and another 10 pounds the first 8 days after surgery. I have since gained back 4 pounds of the weight lost and I am not sure why. I am eating the smushy/blended foods but have to eat about an ounce or so every hour or hour and a half to get the 50 grams of Protein in. I am basicly eating the same foods I eat and lost the 11 pounds pre-op but have gained 4 pounds eating them. I am open to any and all suggestions.
