  1. Well, we went on that last nature walk and it was NOT supposed to rain but in the middle of it, we got hit with a deluge of rain and wind (rain coming in sideways). Made it back to car after what felt like forever, completely soaked. We managed to walk 1.7 miles that day and it may have been more if it hadn't been for the rain but that's for another time. It's been 38 days since surgery now and I've lost 19.8 lbs. I'm made peace, at least for now, with the rate I'm losing as I was a very slow 'loser' prior to surgery (did keto for 15 months) so I have to remember without this surgery that I definitely would NOT have lost 19.8 lb in 38 days. Yes, in my first month or two of my 15 month keto journey I did lose a LOT...close to this same rate, but that was probably at least 10 lbs of water weight and that pace was not sustainable. Current weight loss rate is roughly .52 lbs a day which is actually pretty great in my mind. I do feel STRONGLY that I have to keep up the physical activity multiple times a wk. And I know there are more stalls in my future & even gains as I continue to walk with my daughter and am working on a plan to join a friend at a local gym to walk an air conditioned track with her and also to have access to other machines/weights/etc. For now I just wanted to give an update. The 'vent' that I left here the other day helped me to get things out so I could start breaking past the negativity that was going on in my mind and thinking. Thanks for the support.
  2. Loved that you showed up in your size 24’s to your appointment. You have done phenomenal.🏆🎖️ A triathlon! You are a bad ass. How are you currently fueling while you train? I know nothing about how to fuel for that type of event. I’ve been running for years. (Half and full marathons) some things I learned from other Bariatric Athletes on fueling after surgery. I’m sure these are things you already know.( Feel free to skip the rest of the post) Fueling will be trial and error to find what works for you. (1) Hiring a sports medicine dietician may help. (2) Food on a pre event tapper link below https://www.triathlete.com/2019/01/nutrition/a-7-day-race-week-meal-plan-for-triathletes_338482 I modify my tapper. Carb load seven-days pre-race. it takes more time to fuel my glycogen stores with the sleeve. I do sports drinks without sugar. (NUUN tabs saved me from dehydration) I replace real sugars with fruit. (3) Pre event tapper training link below. https://www.triathlete.com/2016/09/training/triathlon-taper-tutorial_136524 (3) Food on event day Some people do fine with a meal in the morning. I can’t run with food race day. (The last thing I need is to make porta potty stops on the route) Instead of food, I use powdered carbs. I add them for calories in my water/hydration vest. I carry the powder in a zip lock baggy. I add more cytoCarb when I refill my vest on the route. Hope you figure out what works for you. I would love to see photos of your events.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I’m down 76 pounds. My mini goal is to be 100 down by thanksgiving. That gives me right at 3 months to lose 24 pounds. I need to exercise. I signed up for 4 weeks of gladiator camps. I will likely drop dead during class but the fact that it was $10 made it hard to pass up. Not sure I can meet this goal but I’m going to try. I have some slow months for weight loss which is very frustrating.

    Considering WLS

Hi, and welcome! I'm not from Oregon, but have had gastric bypass in March 2019, and had hypertension, diabetes, type 2, arthritis in knees, generally felt lousy everywhere. Now, I'm off my diabetes meds and it's gone! Off my high blood pressure meds! Knees don't hurt, and generally feel great! Best decision I ever made health wise. I had a BMI of over 40, and now I'm in the "overweight" category, on my way to normal. Read everything you can, and ask questions. Good luck with your journey!

    Stomach cramping

I'm about 10 days out from surgery and when I saw my surgeon for my 1 week I asked her about that, she said it was normal and that it would go away and it did just a few days later. I found sometimes taking a deep breath when the pain started helped significantly. Hang in there, it'll pass. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Cruiser bikes

We've been enjoying our cruiser bikes for 10 years! I had rny surgery 8 weeks ago, and getting back on my bike was one of the things I was most looking forward to. We rode around Chicago today and tomorrow we're hitting up a country trail in Indiana! Enjoy the ride! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

September 10 seems so close. Two more days then liquids only for a long time!!!!
  15. Hi, I have an appointment with the bariatric surgeon on 9/10. I hope this will lead to the surgery, hopefully this year! I was wondering, are there any foods you ate before that you can no longer eat since your sleeve surgery? And if you can't eat certain things, why not? Just curious Thanks, Maureen

    Non Scale Victories

Ditto all those ... My lower abdomen rubbed the lower edge of the steering wheel for many years. VSG 23 months ago. It took all of four months for the space to appear. My arse ('ass' for American readers) eventually shrank so much that I actually had to move the driver's seat well forward (about 7 of the 15 notches) ... and still I am 200mm-250mm (8"-10") away from the steering-wheel. My knees are crap but I swim daily for exercise. 20 laps of the (25 metre) pool used to take about 65-70 minutes of wading and padding when I started in 2015. Last Sunday (25th August), I timed myself ... 130 laps (2.05 miles or 3.25km) of breaststroke in 161 minutes. I've gone from 9XL, 8XL and 7XL tops/shirts in various brands to 3XL & 2XL. Down to 117cm (44") jeans/slacks already but on a plateau because of excess hard flab that exercise is not now shifting. Living on 1650-1850 calories a day. After my apronectomy (due in the next 5-8 months), I expect to wear size 40" (102cm) pants then lower myself to 36" (92cm) in time. Thanks for sharing your achievements. I have dropped about 1.5kg (3.3lbs) since March but have not updated the signature JPEG.

    pre packed meals snacks breads

My doctor/nutritionist do not want me to ever eat any product that contains yeast. Not sure why yeast specifically, but I know they do not want me to have most breads and similar products. They also do not want me to have any rice and only limited portions of wheat pasta. I CAN however eat 6-10 whole wheat crackers, so I am using that as my "bread". I think I am going to just have to do my best to do a mostly keto"ish" diet. I also just ordered cheese crisps to substitute crackers and add a little protein in their place. Not sure how I will like those yet. Ordered a variety so maybe I can find something tasty. Pre-packaged food: I am going to do my best to avoid all processed pre-packaged food. It usually isn't very healthy for you. But, if I do need something quick and easy I am not opposed to using them occasionally. But instead of frozen meals, I will try to get some fresher versions from local delis. Haven't tried the bariatric site meals, but I did buy some bariatric soups for after surgery.
  18. I got my sleeve on aug 21 it’s been 10 days I am recuperating well now I’m on full liquid diet and I hope you all are doing well also

    A little weirdo am I

I agree with all the above and especially hurting yourself by eating solid foods 10 days after surgery. You really need to let yourself have time to heal.

    Lentil Cookbook?

So, I'm 10 months out and still having problems eating solid foods (doc knows, nothing they can do). Since this appears to be my life, I need to get out of the rut of only eating yogurt for breakfast and dinner. Lentils seem like they go down fine. We have a meal delivery service here that is run by immigrants/refugees and I have been able to get all sorts of delicious Middle Eastern, Indian, and African (lots of stuff from Eritrea and Ethiopia)-style lentils from that. But those have a lot of salt and oil, so I'd love to be able to replicate them by cooking at home. Does anyone know of a good lentil cookbook that has a lot of different styles of cooking? Thanks!
