Hey All, I am entering Day 1 of my Pre-op and I am sooooo excited. I think I am almost too excited to be hungry! It's been an okay starts. My husband and I have been up since 7 with our DD. He keeps slipping up. He brought me some French Vin coffee in bed. But then I had to remind him that start my pre-op today. So only Water. I think I am going to try to plan each day out the day before. While there aren;t any calorie restrictions, I still want to make sure I look at my carbs (no more than 40 a day) sat fats (no more than 5/serving). So here is what I had and what I plan on for the day Goal: Shrink the Liver not Loose weight 9:00 am 16 oz of water and a plain hard-boiled egg 10:15- 16 oz of water a a half of banana (other half is my daughter's :-) 11:30- 16 oz of water and a apple 1:30- Protein shake (150 cal/ 1 gr of sat fat/ 6 g of carbs/ 26gr Protein) and 8 oz of water 4ish -Some snack within guidelines (I was thinking Greek yogurt with frozen strawberries) with 16 oz of water Dinner- Plain chix breast w/ sweet pea with 16 oz of water Late night snack if needed- Protein Shake (280 cal/ 2 sat fats/8 gr carb/ 56 gms of protein) Wish me luck!

When I went to the doctor for my consultation I honestly thought that I did have a big frame. I was shocked when he said that I will probably be more on the small/petite size once I've lost all the weight. My BMI chart said that at 5'5" I should be about 120, but Dr W. says that I'll look great at 135/140. Those charts are so confusing, and he said that doctors shouldn't use them anymore.

Approved but feeling disheartened...
LipstickLady replied to crazyweight's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only person you have to believe in is YOURSELF. How hard are you planning on working? How bad do you want to lose your weight? How committed are you to your own success? You don't have to answer any of these questions out loud, you only have to be honest with yourself. You can do anything you want to do with this surgery. There are far too many amazing success stories on this site alone to think that you can't succeed if you give it 110%. Can you fail? ABSOLUTELY! But only if YOU allow it. -
So I have been planning band surgery for 5 years now. Back in 2007 my insurance didn't cover it and I could not afford it. Back in 2008 I could afford it but issues with the overseas clinic I was going thru prevented me from going thru with it. Now my insurance will cover some and we can afford the rest and after 6 months of pre-surgery diet it looks like I am finally going to get this done. Now I have done a lot of research over the years and I feel I am pretty well informed. I knew there was success stories and not as successful stories. In my head I was thinking "I really want this and I am a practical person, and this is going to work for me because I am tenacious and will make it happen" However 2x in the last few months I have come across banded people that barely lost any weight. And now I am alarmed and I am thinking "Hmmm, maybe that will be me." I bet those other people wanted it just as much as I do so what makes me different? Who is to say that after all the classes, and appointments, and the time, and the money, that I still won't lose weight? I really appreciate this moment of self-doubt. I want to go into this with my eyes open. To be confident, yet not cocky. But will I be able to this?

This is what my trainer said too. Do weights first, then cardio if you're going to do them both in the same session.

Thank you all for your replies! I actually ran track in high school and I remember getting that endorphin high from it. Rootman, Thank you for the example with your swimming workouts. You did what I'm trying to do, build up my endurance because I know I'll lose the weight, but I want to be healthier when I get there. Pdx, You actually stated my philosophy on this exactly! I didn't have surgery just to look better. I actually had a doctor give me the "How quick do you want to meet your maker?" speech. He told me I wouldn't live another year if I didn't get the weight off, and the weight is coming off. However, I know that just losing the weight isnt going to protect me from having bad health issues all by itself. With the 60 pounds I've lost in 3 months, I don't have a good sense of balance yet. I did try the elliptical the other night, but I couldn't balance myself well enough to get on yet. I will try it again in a few weeks and see if that's any better. That's also the reason I'm not attempting to run on the treadmill yet. I can see me flying off the back and falling on the floor! LOL I think I will just start adding more time to my walking for now, maybe 5 minutes more each time until I build up to walking the full 3 miles (that's a 5k, right?). Once I'm at that, then I can work on increasing speed. I'm pretty happy with the results I've had so far, but wanted to make sure I'm doing this right. I'd really like to do the C25K thing, but know I need to lose more weight before I attempt that. Thanks again!

My Fitness Pal Set-up
ericarae11 replied to ericarae11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I go to "Edit Profile" it asks me about where I'm from, why I want to lose weight, etc.....no preference options. When I go to "settings" and click on "update diet/fitness profile" it asks for my height, weight, lifestyle, birthday, etc......no preference options. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've clicked through that entire website and can't figure it out. Maybe my computer skills aren't as great as I thought they were. lol -
Hey All, I got a question about the MFP profile setup process: I am about 3 weeks away from my surgery date and have been researching like crazy and it seems like a lot of people are using MFP to track their food and exercise so I thought I would sign up and try it as well. I just set up my profile but it seems like the profile questionnaire is seriously lacking in options for people who are having/have had a VSG. When I entered my weight, goal weight, lifestyle, and 2 lbs weight loss per week (highest weight loss option to choose from) it said I should be taking in 1370 calories, 188 carbs, 46g fat, and 51g Protein per day. I know these numbers are way off for VSG patients so I guess my question is, how can I change the daily goal calorie, fat, and carb intake to reflect the recommendations given by my NUT? I am not computer illiterate but I must be doing something wrong since I haven't seen any one else on here mention the same problem. Please help! Thanks, ericarae11

I Just Wanna Get FREAKIN BANDED!!!!!
CMTurner replied to xgrl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey xgrl Got one better for ya. LOL I saw my surgeon for the insurance required history and physical on July 23 and they still don't have that typed up and sent downstairs (literally down the elevator and about 30 yrds to the weight loss center) so they can send in the information to the insurance so I can wait some more to find out if I am approved or have to start an appeals process. I have called the surgeon's office and the weightloss center multiple times. Surgeon's nurse said she "left the dr a note", "there is a tape on the dr's desk that needs to be typed up but she doesn't know if my visit is even on there". I was only in her office for about 10 minutes or so so I am not sure what is taking her so long. She probably could have completed it from the information provided by my pcp. I will be calling again tomorrow. I bet if the insurance needed those notes to pay the claim for the office visit they would have them done and sent off. Maybe they are waiting to be paid for the office visit before they type up the notes to send in for approval. Uggghhhhhhh!! About makes me wanna see about switching doctors at this point. Just hope the insurance approval (hell even a denial) happens quicker than this. At this rate it will be December before I can schedule a surgery date since at the July 23rd visit she said they were currently scheduling surgeries for mid October.:cursing::tongue_smilie: -
During rapid weight loss, most patients experience up and down mood swings. It's really common. Along with the changes and challenges we're facing every day, our hormones are out of whack. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, and when we're losing weight fast, it's all being released into our bodies. It does get better, but my PMS crankiness right before my period is actually worse now than it ever was before surgery. It'll come in ebbs and waves.

MINI - Thanks for the tips. But I've never drank protein shakes. I use Pro-stat 64 for my protein supplementation. No I never thought I would ever be "complaining" because I can't eat enough! LOL. And the only people who understand are ya'll. I could never say those kind of things to my friends at work. Most of them are ffrom a little to a lot overweight. They are already hating me a litlle for eating so little and dropping weight so fast. They all know about my surgery. I just think it would be rubbing it in if I told them I have to try to eat more. LOL

Extra Hungry After Workouts???
Cherishthepast replied to LargeMediumSmall's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I experience the same, especially on days that I have boxing (Tuesday & Thursday mornings). The nutritionist and instructor says that the body needs fuel after a vigorous workout, which I tend to agree. I just eat extra Protein on those days - usually I increase my protein to 80-100 grams from the usual 60 or so and that does the trick. Lately, I haven't experience any weight loss; however, I've lost inches (as mentioned in a previous post I've gone from a size 14 pant to a size 10 since June w/o losing a pound) building lots of muscle and losing fat. My dear husband calls me thunder thighs now since they're no longer shaking like Jello We're burning fat and building muscle and need the increased protein to fuel our bodies. -
Hi, I am a 34 year old breast cancer survivor from IL. I have fought my weight the majority of my adult life. In 2008 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, specifically medullary carcinoma of the breast. I had 2 lumpectomies, 1 lymphocentisis, 12 rounds of chemo, 33 radiation treatments, a complete hyaterectomy & oopherectomy, another biopsy, and 1 more lumpectomy on the other breast that came back with b9 results. Oh yeah and I have fibromyalga, All of this and I am fatter than ever!!! Maintaining a normal body weight will greatly reduce my risk of reoccurence but I can't seem to loose wt. on my own. I am having surgery on Weds. I am starving, weak, shaky, and achy from the liquid diet. How on earth am I going to make it 3 more days??? Any suggestions??

Anyone gone to Cincinnati Weight Loss Ctr?
mschristine posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Any comments on this office, staff or doctors? -
Hi folks Found this site whilst browsing lap band procedures out of desperation. I'm Kim, 46, live in Southampton, and I've never had a weight problem until I had a number of gynae related problems then a partial hysterectomy in 2007 then the rest out in 2011. Been on HRT since then and by weight has balloned. I am only 5 feet 1 so every stone makes me look like a hippo. Seeing photographs of me recently has made be so depressed, no matter how little I eat nothing seems to make a difference. I have been on a low calorie liquid diet for a few weeks now and haven't lost a pound; I feel something is quite wrong with my metabolism but my GP says just eat less and move move more. The moving thing would be easy except I have a disability, chronic asthma and cannot walk very far without excrutiating pain in my feet. I suffer from calcified tendons which can happen at any time, at the moment I have calcific achilles tendons and can barely walk more than 5 paces without having to stop and also have calcific tendonitis in my shoulders which prevent me from swimming. A few years ago I could swim 100 lenghts of my local pool in 90 mins, today I would be lucky to manage one :-( I know that loosing weight would help my physical conditions and improve my general wellbeing but as I can't exercise I am on a road to nowhere. It seems a gastric band is my only hope to restrict my food intake to a bare minimum. What upsets me is that I am not a massive eater anyway, never eat bread, don't like sweets, rarely eat chocolate, and have cut my alcohol intake to a few social glasses of wine at the weekends. I don't know what has made me put on so much weight but it seems that nothing I do works to resolve the weight problems. I am going to look into going to Belgium for the surgery, there seems to be a lot of people that have chose this option. Can anyone point me in the right direction here ? I know there are many posts on this and the particular surgeon but to save me hours wading through them is there a quick bullet point list on how to contact said Surgeon, make the arrangements, what to expect etc ? Thanks for letting me having a rant....feel a bit better now :-) Have a great weekend K x

Rather than comparing pounds/kilos lost against others, try comparing % of bodyweight or % of weight-to-target... As an example, I've lost over 150lb in eight months, which is great!! However, I still have about 120 or so (numbers are estimates) to go. So, someone who has lost 80lb in the same time but only has 30 to go is MILES ahead of where I'm at... Plus, we ALL lose at different rates.. All I'm saying is stop comparing yourself to others... Just keep doing all the right things and your time will come.. And DO NOT weigh yourself every day!!!

i agree with Cherrybomb, i use mine for weight and water and ignore the BF%.

If you have a lower BMI, will you have as much success?
Jaffa replied to 31andnew's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Well, yes the lower BMI do great. But also, yes, you MUST work out to have consistent weight loss. -
I am ready for summer. Every year I am miserable when I go on vacation with my family. Cute summer clothes did not fit and all I wanted to do was stay in the condo. Talking about spoiling the fun for everyone. My husband and daughters enjoyed so many actvities without me. This year will be different. Losing weight has lifted my self esteem. I am ready to enjoy all that life has to offer. I am challenging myself to lose 10 more pounds before the end of June. I slacked on my exercise and still managed to lose 18 pounds in 2 months. Now I am highly motivated and will not use the excuse of being too tired to skip my workouts. Come join me. My goal is 40 miles for May.

Awesome.. You have a great mindset! I just walked my bike 4 miles to the shop for extra tune-up so I'm out for a week! Hope to get some serious riding in this year without all the he weight. I'm excited!

To tell people or not to tell people: please answer
LouiseC replied to freakinfitfoodie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always answer these threads the same. Either tell people the truth or tell them nothing at all. If you lie, it could come back to you and you may well regret it. If you lie and people realise you are lying (which can happen especially if you lose a lot of weight) then your reputation is negatively affected in the eyes of your managers, peers, and colleagues. I always recommend that people chose to act with integrity. Either tell the truth or say nothing at all. -
Question about fitness challenges
Fiddleman replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Try starting out with 10 air squats. Focus on going parallel or lower. You will not get the benefits of a squat if you do not get at least parallel. You should feel the resistance in your gluts, hamstrings. I found these challenging at first because I am a stiff board. Just starting to get flexible. They key to a good squat is find the mobility in your hips, being able to push them back and also being able to rotate your ankles. Rotating your ankles 30% or so is key while still remaining flat footed, but is hard. Keep your weight in your heals. Always think about a straight line from the top of your head, down to the ground between your shoulders and your feet. Keep your shoulders relaxed and aligned above your hips. Strong core. Knees should bend out slightly when you deepen. That is where the real power will come from. Do not let your knees buckle. Feet should be rotated out a little, but not too much. Your knees should track your feet. Keep your back straight or just slightly inverted at the lumbar. Flat is key. You will get hurt if you have an outward bend in your back, especially if you add weight. So much to keep track of. Trust me. I have been working on squat variations with and without weight for 8 months and it is still a conscious effort to keep good form. -
Am I The Only One?
collegegirl22 replied to collegegirl22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Neptune693, Thank-You for your reply! I agree with you talking to the surgeon is very important. And being on top of the tightenings and appts. is definitely a way towards success. I just have a hard time with self controll towards foods sometimes but I am really going to try to do this. If there's a will there's a way! How much weight did you loose since you were banded? school is a great idea! I find keeping busy is the best bec. that way your out of the house and not thinking abt. food all the time! I wish you luck and yes Let's both support each other, seriously I want to start tomorrow with eating healthy and no junk and we will do this together. Be in touch! do you have instant message? -
weighing options
flirtyangel replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weight myself with no clothes in the morning. I notice that I am at the same weight that way as at the doctors with clothes. So my scale adds a pound or two. I heard that from my friends as well when they use my scale.
