I'm in hospital right now, I had a sleeve to bypass revision this morning due to reflux since my sleeve. Nobody wants surgery, it's understandable you're nervous! It's good to find out what's going on tho. I didn't realise that my reflux was a big deal, initially it was controlled well with standard meds off the shelf. I assumed it was just something I needed to live with. I mentioned to my surgeon at my 12 month post-sleeve appointment and he started to talk about the need for surgical intervention. Worth remembering that in the US they tend to be overly cautious about interventions like this! I had tests done to check how much damage had been done by the GERD, turned out it was quite a bit. I discussed it with my hubs over a few months, I really didn't want to lose even more weight when I was alreasy worrying I was too skinny in places. What sealed it for us was finding out that long term GERD can lead to esophageal cancer, and long term use of omeprazole etc can lower your calcium, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. I hope you have a good doctor and can get some good answers to set your mind st ease. Much as we've all had similar experiences, everyone reacts differently and has different issues and bodies, so only you can make the decision, so .and an informed one! Sorry about the rambling... I have a dilaudid button! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Hmm....Drs might not be able to fix the hernia so I'm looking at a revision to a bypass.

Interesting US Bariatric Surgery Statistics
efierke replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the reason for this is the band, to be honest. from talking to my surgeon, the month before my surgery, he took out 17 bands and put in only one. Each of those removals would count as a revision I think. -
Should I Go Back & Ask The Dr, Not His Coordinator? Help!
FindingMyWay replied to campanas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i had the lapband surgery in 2008 and lost 110% of my goal weight. my bmi right now is 23 BUT i the lapband slipped and i need to revise to the sleeve. my surgeon here told me it was okay to do even if i was no longer overweight... he would basically be making my stomach the same size as it is right now with the band. i do have to go to mexico because i'm self pay and i did get questioned a couple of times because of my weight but was approved because its considered "maintenance". -

Welcome Aboard MT! Glad you decided on the sleeve. I started out looking at the band too. After reading all the revision to sleeve I decided that was the better course. Nice to see you take charge of your life at an early age. Good luck and keep us posted!

Out of pocket cost after insurance pays
GalleyGal replied to ld33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My band to sleeve revision is scheduled for 3/2 and I'm going to have to pay my $750 deductible plus the 15% coinsurance. I'm going to be out of pocket about $3,500. But all worth it for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had to have a revision. My surgeon, too, thought that he would have to remove and give me a new band, but it was not necessary. I do have a titled port, but surgeon says that happens when the port is big and then you lose weight and you might need a smaller port to fit. I don't get fills anymore, since I can't tolerate any larger than what I currently have, 5 cc. So, I will cross the bridge of smaller port at some other time! Best wishes to you and i hope that the plan that you have with your surgeon works out for you. Karen..aka.kll724

(HUGS) your not alone. We have had some very similar experiences. I got a lapband in 2011. The lab band is adjustable and everytime I get a "fill" / "adjustment" I have severe reflux. I can't wait to get this thing out of me. I have had to have all of the Fluid removed. I am now trying to get a revision to the RNY. I truly understand how you feel and wish you the best!

My surgeon usually puts a drain in for a revision, so I will have one. Not looking forward to it.

Old Timers-What is the point of WLS if many regain/have hunger/diet drama..
James Marusek replied to Anna Nim's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had severe acid reflux (GERD). As a result, this is a recommended surgery because the sleeve will only make the condition worse. Also, RNY gastric bypass is almost a gold standard. It has been around a lot longer and they have for the most part got the bugs worked out. It has one of the lowest revision rates and I decided if I underwent the knife once, I sure would not want to repeat the experience. -
Kinda Sorta Gotta Date! (I Think)
raquelrdgz replied to lessofme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with DLCoggin BUT I wouldn't tell everyone and anyone before surgery because 9/10 will be negative about it and will try to discourage you. I love how the thin ones want to tell me I can do it on my own and that all I have to do is watch what I eat and exercise! IF it were that easy there wouldn't be an obese person out there and this option wouldn't exist. I'm having revision surgery due to a failed lap band but only a hand full of people know and until I'm losing the weight and I am asked-I will not put it out there. I'll avoid the negativity as much as possible. (my two cents ) -
Lap Band & port removed 4 days ago with post op picture
James Marusek replied to Dream4tc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
One individual in our Bariatric Support Group meetings had a lap band to RNY revision. His band was wearing into his stomach and had to be removed. When they did the RNY because of the scaring he had to have a smaller pouch. It meant that he had to eat smaller meals than most but he was fine with that. He was very pleased with the revision. -
Upper GI done, hopefully one step closer

Hi mom2sparky, I am wondering if you got approval for your revision based on the GI results. I have a similar situation. Thank you. -
10 months after conversion

78 pounds in 10 months is awesome. I had my revision on May 27. I'm down about 15 pounds since. It was a little more complication and a more difficult recovery than I anticipated, but I'm so glad to have that band out. Now, if I could only get the hole from the G-tube to close, I'd be far more comfortable and happy! Keep up the good work. -
Hi! I am a former lap-bander who revised to the sleeve in April. I had my LB for 9 years and at the end of the day i lost 26 pounds total with it. I did a revision and I am very happy with it. Id do it again in a heartbeat!

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass
Stephanie Rodriguez68 replied to hharrison43's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck to everyone. I had my band placed in 2008. Two yrs ago I started having problems with my band being too tight (last fill 10/09), reflux, food getting stuck, weight gain, and the worst for me, the health problems I was trying to prevent by having surgery in the first place. I am hoping to get approval for revision soon. I was self pay with band surgery, but I currently have Humana. I am scheduled for an EGD and esophageal manometry on Aug 1st. If my surgeon can find a medical reason why I need the revision my insurance will cover it. -
Hello and congratulations on your upcoming revision! I had my revision on 6/25 and so far so good! I have lost 7 pounds since surgery and that feels amazing! After my band surgery I lost 34 pounds in 7 months before my band failed. Also in my liquid phase post op I did not loose anything at all after band surgery ( still stumped) lol I wish you all the best and I know in my heart that this WILL work for me and I am sure it will work for you, so girl start making plans for the rest of your life

For me VSG was like baby bears porridge. Bypass was too extreme. Lap band had a high rate of revision and ongoing diet problems. VSG was just right.

NEW TO THIS SITE, need support! :) please!

I have nothing good to say about the Lapband You need to give your body time to heal, while i know how anxious you were for the revision, this will give your body time to rest. So rest and begin your pre-op diet now. begin reading all there is to know about nutrition and exercising...educate yourself while you wait. Before you know it, two months will have flown by and you will be sleeved. good luck to you -
Need help..........What did you do with all of your clothes that are to big!

At the time I donated I was on lapbandtalk.com (revision) and gave mine to people who needed them on there. Sent 3 big boxes to 3 different people just for shipping prices. And my sister in law made out like a bandit. Lots of J Jill, Eddie Bauer, and Old Navy stuff with tags still on em. U might want to try the clthing exchange on this site. Good luck -
So finally after completing my options classes at kaiser my date is set for dec 17. Originally I had the lapband my dr is going to remove my band and do a revision to an rny the same time if everything looks ok inside. I'm super nervous. I keep reading horror stories and bad experiences online and it's freaking me out. Any support is appreciated

I had the band and I 100% back what TIffykins said. If you do lose weight, you will more than likely gain it back. I have had just about every complication there is and I feel so much better to have that thing out of me. I love my sleeve. At ten years out there are studies from other countries that say the band has a 85% failure rate. If I had known about the sleeve when I had the band, I would have picked the sleeve in a heartbeat. You are putting a foreign object in your body and you have no idea how your body will respond. Plus, you can get a defective band like I had and have all sorts of issues. Right before my revision, I could barely swallow. I wish you the best with your decision. I went into my lapband surgery with high hopes, yet it let me down in every single way. On the other hand, my sleeve has been exactly what I wanted. I have restriction and control over food.

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass
AuriP replied to hharrison43's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't revised yet but I have to repeat the whole process all over again. That is standard where I live, MN. My insurance is different than yours and I would look at the policy to make sure they don't have a once a lifetime bariatric surgery clause. Although I don't have the required 3-6 month diet, my insurance doesn't require it, that might be something you have to do as well. My band only provided me a 23lb loss and I frequently would get stuck, so much that I had and still do have some anxiety(unfilled) that foods will get stuck. I used to dread eating for fear of it coming back up. Hopefully your process is a smooth one. -
Surgery for revision Band to RNY scheduled for Tuesday 7/15. Drastically cut caffeine from 4 cups to 1 per day about 3 weeks ago. Bariatric Advantage liver reduction diet for 2 weeks now. Taking my B complex Vitamin daily. I get migraines easily, so I am really trying to keep these headaches in check, but just Tylenol is not doing it. Aleve is usually my go-to help. Any advise appreciated!
