PMS Cravings - will they go away?

I did it because I was always able to lose weight but always put it back on and then some. I was tired of the yoyo and it is devastating to your metabolism. I would probably been better off never dieting. I had the band 11 years and it worked well for 4 years and then it didn't and I would never recommend it to anyone. I revised to rny 2 months ago and I love it!!!i only wish I had done it to begin with. I have always had pms cravings too. I have not noticed it as much now post bypass. Though I am feeling like I need more calories to keep my energy up. I'm 10 weeks post op and following a ketogenic diet during my loss phase.
  2. I have it too and recently had revision from LapBand to sleeve and it didn't impact either one. My dr. had to reduce my dosage on Synthroid recently but that's it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Devastated

Your "partner" says no? Do you not have autonomy over your life, your body and your health? Apart from that, I've had dilation. My band was loosened quite a bit -- not completely emptied -- for a while, perhaps up to two months to that the dilation would correct. Then I started tightening and found the band in working order. It's been said that, once loosened dramatically due to such a mishap, the band never works quite as well again, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't renew the partnership with its owner. If you and your surgeon haven't discussed giving it a chance before discussing revision surgery, you may want to bring it up.

    Bypass

I revised from a lap band to bypass. Love my bypass!! No nausea unless I am "dumping". Only thing that has caused it is eating too fast. It happens twice before I figured out what it was, been fine sine..no repeats.
  5. I just wanted to share with yall the great experience that I had when I chose to have my revision with BP Team MX. From the very beginning Bill was the best! The customer service I got from the first moment I contacted them was super! The whole process was so easy and rewarding. From planning the surgery, to paying, to all the communication! I would absolutely recommend this team to anyone and everyone that is thinking of going to Mexico to have surgery. The hospital (Oasis of Hope) was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. They mopped the floors in what seemed like every few hours. It smelled clean, appeared clean, and was clean! The hotel was very nice. I stayed at the Pueblo Amigo Hotel and Casino. It was clean and inviting. We were in suite and the room was very spacious and comfy! We enjoyed having the dining room in the hotel for our meals and the casino. We played the slots a bit and enjoyed that very much! We went site seeing with the Valet guy and he was very knowledgeable and gracious to us. We even had a valet guy come on his day off and offer to take us to Walmart for a few supplies. His name was Robert. We took him up on his offer! Went to the mall in Mexico The valets seem to really enjoy their job. Always smiling and very helpful no matter the need. This was the second time I went to Mexico for surgery and this was an absolutely rewarding experience. Stacy and Bill were there and answered any and all questions no matter what they were. This is the best company in my book because of the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! IF you choose to go to Mexico to have surgery, use this team and you will be so glad you did! I already want to go back! P.S. I even met THE ALEX of BP! (I had surgery 11/24/16) TOP notch-A rated team and you will not go wrong using BariatricPal Team MX!!!
  6. My hubby had a BMI of 64 and wanted the RNY but they couldn't do it due to some prior surgeries etc. But he had the Sleeve in June 2016 and has only lost 70#'s. Now I know there are people that have had GREAT results with the Sleeve. He doesn't seem to have enough restriction. Most Dr.'s will suggest the RNY for the weight that you have. But you are young and seem to be in good health. He had a Lap Band for 13 years but it malfunctioned so he went in for a revision to an RNY which they couldn't do. His Band had eroded into his Liver. His starting weight when he had the Sleeve was 420#'s. Most Dr.'s would suggest the RNY at your weight but you seem to be fairly healthy so who knows. Now I had the RNY 3 years ago and I have had GREAT results. Granted my weight wasn't as high but I started out with a weight of 249#'s this time I was 285 but managed to lose down to 249. I got below my goal weight in 6 months and have maintained my 124# loss for 2 and 12 years. You are the only one that can make that decision which surgery you will have. Talk to your Surgeon to help you with that decision. Good Luck and I look forward to seeing your journey.

    Sleeve Over Lap Band?

My surgeon put it this way. "We will do whatever surgery you want. Just so you know, we are taking out more lap bands than we are putting in now, most of them being revised to sleeves." Lap band is less "permanent", but from my point of view, would not be as effective in reducing ghrelin, or the volume of my stomach. The sleeve keeps everything in the proper order, so I went with that. I don't need people opening me up any more than is absolutely necessary.
  8. Well, and I can revise my statement a bit, too. This past summer, at just shy of 2 years post op, my daughter's in laws were visiting from England. Being the ever so cordial hostess, we were having dinner and some wine out on my back patio and having a gay old time chatting it up getting to know each other. Keep in mind I literally can count on two hands how many times I've drank post op. A couple hours later, I had managed to polish off a whole bottle of red wine by myself and completely blacked out. I would say I that's the definition of a 'bad' thing You know what they say on the internet. "Pics, or it didn't happen!" More like a video recording would be better. I was told I had said to them that I was very fond of their son and saw him as my own son no less than 10 times. I also had listed at least 20 places around the world I would love to visit several times. I'm sure they were riveted. Luckily we could all laugh about it the next day. After I was over being mortified.

    post op q's!

Thanks. Yes, we should keep in touch. Yes, Im on day 6 of my liquid preop diet. We are allowed full liquids on days 1-9 and clear liquids only on day 10. I have had lapband for 7.5 years. It worked pretty well in the beginning. I lost 65 and maintained around a 55-60 pound loss for three years until I had my daughter. I had a complete unfil with pregnancy (I have hyperemesis) and haven't tolerated much fill since then. Also, my thyroid went kaput, so it's been a tough road and I've gained it almost all back, thus the revision to RNY. It was wondeful though because without it, I'm certain I wouldn't have been able to get pregnant. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    post op q's!

I am also preop, but I do have LapBand. My revision other rny is 12/15, so I'm right ahead of you. I can't answer all these but I'll weigh in on a few. #3. Sip, sip, sip. All that you can. My group preaches liquid first then Protein #4. No. Keep them off for a while. #5. My group says when you are off pain meds and feel like it. #8. If you are comfortable that way, go for it but watch your drains. You don't want those pulled out. My group recommends sleeping in a recliner or propped up on pillows. #9. I am very concerned that you are this close, and this hasn't been explained to you. I had to attend a nutrition class all about this, go to a support group meeting where this was discussed, was given a binder with all the details spelled out, and I have already had one nurse call going over it again to make sure I'm aware. Your surgeon and dietician may have a slightly different regime than mine, but basically, you will be on liquids (VERY small quantities over time) on day one then progress to full liquids, again, over time. Eventually purees, then mushy, then soft, and so on. It's way to much detail to respond to in a single comment. #10. Probably. Shock to your body from surgery. It will grow back, though. If you search, there was a recent post explaining some of the science behind it. Best of luck! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    My story

What an AMAZING post!! I think in some ways it would be great to do this together. But in my case I had my RNY done on July2, 2013 then Sept of 2013 my hubby went in for a revision from his Lap Band to a RNY. It didn't go as planned. He finally had his Sleeve done this last June. I am kind of glad because I have always taken care of everyone else and since he had his Sleeve he started doing the KETOGENIC diet. Well, it was all left up to me. Now one reason was it is very hard for me to ask for help or accept it. So I was making the grocery list, doing the shopping and then going shopping together. But I had to do all of the prep and let me tell you there is so much prep. Finally, because I got so frustrated he did start to help me. What a difference!! So now things are better all around!! I am afraid that if he had his surgery right after I had it would have been so overwhelming. Thank goodness it worked out for the best. Do you find it hard to do it together or easier? Good Luck!!

  17. Ok, I admit I'm having a bit of a bad conscience here because what I wrote about revisions might not have reflected what I think about "mental/emotional stuff" and revisions. I don't know if I will make it worse with elaborating or not but here it goes: - physical problems: no amount of psych or nutritional counseling will get you rid of this, might as well have a revision as soon as possible and (hopefully) your issues will be resolved but of course there is no guarantee that it will be 100% ok. - mental/emotional stuff: I think that's a more difficult thing. I already said that there is a lot of judgement within the WLS community if there is not a diagnosed medical problem that justifies a revision ("patient ate his way through surgery and will continue to do so", "not educated enough" etc.) I'm a bit more careful when it comes to revision because of emotional/mental issues. It might be that the second surgery (as in second try or second chance) will be successful because the patient has learnt from past mistakes and will do way better the second time around and it might be not. Maybe e. g. sleeve wasn't the right method? Maybe e. g. the DS will be the right method? However, it might be that surgery wasn't the right way to go for the patient in the end - unfortunately you only know after surgery has been performed if it was the right way to go or not. This doesn't mean "blaming the patient". It only means it wasn't the right treatment for the patient. No treatment has a 100% success guarantee. Some treatments fail patients 100% (no success at all) and some fail patients e. g. 65% (partly success). I recently made the experience myself (nothing WLS related) that a treatment has only been partly successful. Do I blame myself now? Does my doctor blame me now? Do the people in my environment blame me now? Of course they don't. I received a treatment option that was low risk and not invasive and it didn't work the way I hoped. I have an appointment due next Tuesday and it will be discussed what to do now (more wait and see or something more aggressive) - no blaming involved. And that is the way it should be with WLS related issues as well IMO. Unfortunately there is a lot of blaming and judgement going on when it comes to WLS, fellow patients being the worst. Yes, I see that having WLS is quite a risk so having (second) surgery is no piece of cake you simply give a try if it works or not - but that doesn't fully explain why the WLS community can be incredibly harsh when it comes to "lack of success".

  23. I'm getting a revision on January 10th, starting the pre-op diet on the 27th December. I've got a few parties and NYE celebrations to circumnavigate... my pre-op diet allows 2 shakes, Optifast or similar, plus 1 meal of allowed veg (no corn, potatoes, pumpkin etc) and a palm-sized piece of lean meat. I'm planning on eating that allowed meal at lunch when socialising, and having the shake for dinner. Good luck!

Pre-op Diet Starting on Christmas Eve

Im allowed 2 shakes and a low carb dinner my first week of pre-op. If you are allowed to have regular food at all just stay away from breads/sweets/starches.....carbs. Im getting revision-sleeved Dec 16th, so my Xmas will REALLY SUCK...lol. but you may have some flexibility depending on the doctors orders. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
  25. I am 3 weeks post off from the same revision. My pre op and now 4 week post. Op is clear liquid with Protein drinks. I'm so sorry to say you will have an exciting holiday meal if sugar free Jello, turkey broth and oh yeah choc Protein shake. But think if all the holiday meals you did eat got you where you are. My suggestion politely tell people you will miss the meals and meet for coffee and gifts afterwards. Let others cook Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
