My best friend Karen is someone I've always regarded as just one of the most amazing looking people that I know. She literally looks like Lucy Lawless (Xena) and is the same height as me, but is slim and healthy, and graceful, and a health nut. I've always admired her. We are in a pirate singing group together. This last weekend at a performance, I had noticed that my costumes were all huge big gigantic and looked SILLY. I had one that didn't look so bad, and I was wearing it, but I had to wear two belts to get it to stay on right. She said to me in regards to the costume she was wearing. "Well, I'm getting tired of this bodice, and I think it would fit you. Do you want it?" You cannot believe how thrilled I was that she said that. I never thought I would live to see the day. I can't wait to try it on!!

Fustrated with lack of weight loss
melzie_99 replied to jen_ngah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it's hard to stay positive, especially reading posts by people who have lost 60+lbs in like 3 months. Just remember, like others mentioned, realistically we should only be losing 1-2lbs a week. Anymore is an added bonus. You all sound like you are on track; I'm in month 5 and still am hovering around the 40lbs mark (grr). However, I have lost over 35 inches, have more stamina, and a new found confidence; while the number on the scale is a motivator don't forget about your NSV's! This is a journey for all of us, and slow and steady is not a bad thing. Pat yourself on the back for doing something good for yourself, and just be patient; we're all still learning... -
I know this will not sound very importamt to a lot of you but it is big for me. I can now fit in a booth at restaurants and do not have to sit at a table. I hated always asking for a table because I could not fit in a booth. I have specifically asked for a booth for the last two weeks when we go out and it is fantastic. I will never sit at a table again if I have a choice.

Definitely a great NSV! -
Thank you all so much for your replies. I will definately take into consideration everyone's mutal agreement on this being a good idea. I did have a small revelation over the weekend. I got to enjoy the complany of good friends and family. A big pool party at my aunt's place with all the father's: grandfather, dad, and brother-in-law. It was a great time and I felt great. I participated in the pool volley ball and had a great time and kept up with everyone's pace. I even got picked first for grandpa's team. Feeling better, and looking better. Oh and big nsv, I got into a size 18 pair of shorts I just dug up from the button of the drawer and decided to try on over the weekend. Thanks again!

Shoot! I can't do Thursdays for several weeks - my husband teaches at night and I don't think my 6-year-old would be too interested! i will definitely come in the future, when this quarter is over for my husband. Again, congrats on your NSV!!

Getting Sleeved June 27th
iegal replied to KaitlynnHughes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you need to read your two favorite quotes...over and over. Yes, reaction is completely normal as you are having an optional surgery. Suggest you write down why you want this surgery and why you need this surgery. Be honest, putting down shopping in junior section is okay. Next, since you are new to site, read some of the NSV (non scale victory) posts by scrolling down. These are my sleeve brother and sisters getting excited over more than just a pound weight loss on the scale. Be excited, a new you is close at hand - insert your two favorite quotes please here. I love my sleeve and have no regrets. Best wishes and keep us posted. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?

Happy Anniversay Vicky! Congrats on the NSVs! Jess I saw your post about onderland on another thread. Good job! Doesn't it feel great?!? -
I went to get a fill Thursday, and for the first time in 6 years, my blood pressure was normal!!!! I have to confess, when I was placed on the meds, they were never strong enough. But I was in denial and didn't want to get a stronger dose. So I've just been skating by all of these years. I CANNOT wait to get off this medication. That was my first reason for having this surgery. The pounds have been slow to drop, but what I've lost plus exercising consistently has done the trick. Yeah, Me!

So, I am at about 6-7 weeks out from surgery. I have lost about 50% of what I want to lose. I'm overall feeling better physically--or at least I was. For the past week and a half I have been getting very faint when I stand up and it lasts a couple of minutes. Also, all of a sudden going up stairs has become as difficult as it was before I had surgery. I don't get out of breath, my legs just feel like Iron. I have been on blood pressure meds for about 10 years now. I take Lisinopril HCTZ and Metoprolol once a day. My bp has been on average around 130/80 WITH the meds. So I decided to go to my PCP today to tell him about the lethargy and lightheadedness. He took my blood pressure and it was 95/60. WOW. No wonder I have felt like crap. The good news is that we are going to start dropping the doses as long as my bp stays in the normal range. So YAY!!!! And also I don't feel like such a lazy slug as there is a physical reason why I have just been laying around except when I'm at work. This whole journey has been so fascinating. I'm discovering something new about myself every day. And finally--for the first time in probably 15-20 years--I feel girly and I'm loving it!!!! Lisa

I'm going to put this here, because everyone I've told today is like 'yea.. that's good'. You know the 'we're tired of hearing about this stuff' kind of reaction. LOL!! Well, went shopping this weekend and I'm in the regular woman's section! YES!! no more Woman's sizes or W's behind the number I wanted to go all out, but restricted myself to three pairs of pants and 4 shirts (only one was an XL!!) It's been since I was in the Air Force 20 years ago that I was able to do that.. I'm just so freaking excited!! J.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
size10again replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW Vicky! What great NSV's! I also love the increased stamina that i have and my knee and foot pains are gone! I think what you are describing weight loss wise makes sense. Your body must need to adjust for each decade lost. I know it is common to have weight loss stall out at weights we weighed for a long time in the past, a set point I think it's called. Yeah for you! Joan, your sista, lol -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
vickyd replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quick question and a couple of NSVs... First the question, last week I lost a whopping .6 lbs and I have noticed that every time I enter a new "decade" in my weight loss (most recently from the 240s into the 230s) my weight loss slows way down and bounces back and forth a couple of pounds before I start losing again. Has anyone else experienced this? Now for the NSVs...I went shopping this weekend and everything I bought was a regular size rather than a plus size! Don't get me wrong, my pants are still an 18W or 20W depending on the fit so I'm not completely out of the plus sizes but when my DH and I go out to dinner tonight for our anniversary I will be wearing a size L skirt and an XL top...so exciting!! I also bought 3 pairs of shoes (I really needed them ) and not only has my shoe size gone down from a 9 to an 8 but I also bought some shoes that aren't flats - in the past my knees hurt so bad that I would never wear heels! And the last one...my DH and I spent part of Saturday touring a large plantation in our area (before the shopping). It was in the upper 90s temperature-wise but I was able to do all of that walking in addition to a lot of walking at the mall without sitting down and without pain! All of these NSVs reinforce why this is the best thing I have ever done for myself!!! -
Woo hoo! Awesome NSV! For me after losing -70lbs my wedding ring no longer fits, it falls off. I have a crazy small ring finger (sz 5.5), and fear that when all is said and done I will be below a size 5. Not a bad problem to have, just sucky waiting to lose more so I can have my ring resized to fit.
-
I NSVs!!! Congratulations! Isn't it wonderful to wear heels? I always wondered how people could do it, now I know: when you're lighter it isn't a mission impossible!

Congrats!!! Those are amazing NSV's, the sleeve itself is truly a miracle for us. I <3 my sleeve too!!! :cheer2:

Last year my husband had a proceedure done and was not able to get around. Couldn't drive etc. Well I don't drive so my mode of transportation was walking. Last Summer I was 240lbs and could barely make it to the grocery store and back without feeling utterly exhausted to the point of almost wanting to collaps. Today I walked 2 miles and was fine afterwards. Its amazing the difference 64lbs makes! Oh and to reward myself, stopped at Off Broadway Shoes and got two pairs on sale for a total of 40 bucks LOL. I love my sleeve!
