    Anyone eating Atkins bars?

I've tried several different bars, including Atkins, but think of Protein bars as more of a treat than a meal or healthy source of protein. I'm dubious about the hidden carbs and sugar alcohols except in moderation. Of course, you should follow your surgeon's orders, but I'd opt for real protein sources and eat the bars in moderation. I also love making 'powder pudding' with Protein Powder, sugar free pudding, and greek yogurt. Pudding isn't the greatest food on earth, but it's a wonderful treat. I understand they can be frozen also, but it never lasts that long.

    November sleevers here

Surgery on November 2, had minimal pain (the IV helped), Slept for hours post surgery, had to stay an extra day to adjust insulin and medications. I am feeling great, no pain, sipping warm tea, decaf coffee, and water all day. Protein shakes, cottage cheese (small bites at a time)' yogurt. Staying moving as much as I can. This is going well for me. I feel like the weight of the world has lifted off my shoulders. Been a long time coming and prepping, and now it's real. My decision for surgery was for health, with diabetes, high blood pressure, and arthritis in my hips. My hope for the future is to get mobility back and get healthy.

    January Bandsters???

Congrats!!! I am having the same problems of getting enough protein and water since two weeks post op I am still very restricted. I sip all day on liquid or else I can not get the liquid in. I use cream soups with high protein like cream splite pea, soy milk in my coffee for breakfast, drinkable yogurt. I have to be eating all day to get the amounts in.

    January Bandsters???

Yes, she said she exercised a lot. She mostly had a cup of coffee with milk for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine type meal for lunch and a yogurt for dinner, most of the time. She said she didn't cheat much. I was reading on another post, that even if you don't have restriction before your first fill, that we are all professional dieters and should "diet" per se, during that time. Instead of eating away, we should watch what we eat and try to maintain at least, not gain. I did this to lose weight. Not gain, not really slow. I have to understand that it is up to me what I put in my mouth. I have always done very well on the South Beach diet. When I start solids this Saturday, I am going to begin doing South Beach. The problem is when I didn't see results doing it in the past, due to my gigantic portions, I would lose hope and binge on junk food. This time it is different!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    January Bandsters???

Hello To All ! I am 6 days post op and I am delighted to find this Forum. I have been trying to read all 117 pgs of posts before I posted but I just decided to jump in. There is so much Grrreat info coming from everyone ! I am a Sr Citizen compared to most of you @ 59. I just retired in May after 25 yrs of being The School Nurse (Hence the user name) Lovingly given to me yrs ago by the students. I am Not an RN but a Health Tech. I started this Lap Band Process in Sept trying to get our Ins. Tri Care(Military) to pay for it .... It was denied 3xs they would pay for the by Pass But consider the Lap Band experimental. We finally gave up and paid for it ourselves. Tricare did pay for the hospital stay and all the work ups since I had a hernia which was repaired at the time of my surgery. I am doing OK but have had some problems with shoulder pain that seems to be directly related to the gas in my belly. I have other complications which is the need for a hip replacement which means my mobility is very compromised. And I am sure that is why I am having so much gas UGH! Today I woke up and decided that I was going to have some Cream of Wheat. I am one of those who were on Protien shakes 2 weeks prior to surgery Myoplex from GNC. I can not even look at the box with out getting sick to my stomach it was awful !!! Anyway the Cream Of Wheat was wonderful and sat very well. Tomorrow I am trying Light N Fit Yogurt. This is a huge thread but so full of good info and encouragement. Thank You All for being out there. Joanne, Dr.De Barros Tempe Weight Loss Institute Of Arizona

    January Bandsters???

Jen -- glad to hear you are doing so well! Yay mushies! I know what you mean about looking forward to those foods. I'm on Optifast right now, so I'm actually looking forward to my post-op week of liquids, just so I can have some juice and yogurt drinks! Maria

    January Bandsters???

For some reason I am addicted to my scale. I am down 5 lbs tho, but have not eaten much since Tuesday anyhow. I am on full liquids today...yum@ protein drink and blended yogurt. I am not drinking enough water and getting nervous. I am uncertain about how much to drink, what kind of sips, and just understanding my body. My mom is forcing me to drink every so often. Otherwise, I feel fantastic today. My soreness is nearly 75% gone. I am able to stand up, move around, roll over and all of that. I think I am going to start driving today. My back is killing me from doing that hunched over old lady walk for the last few days, but that will work itself out in no time. Just wanted to let you guys know how I was doing 3 days post op. Any suggestions about the water? I love water, and aside from iced tea, it is all I ever drank pre op. How much should I be able to tolerate in what kind of time frame?

    January Bandsters???

Man, I'm am so sick of BROTH, protein shakes etc. I've been doing them for 12 days now and still have 5 more days! I get to go to Mushie next Thursday and I am counting the days. My doctor still won't let me have meat, but I can have refried beans, cottage cheese, soft egg, no hot sauce, yogurt, and I am even looking forward to cottage cheese. Sherilynn, I hope everything goes okay, please let us know after your cardiologist visit. Also, maillady2, I added you to the master list, and I've sent an email to Angy (the starter of this thread) to update her original post. She should update in a day or two.

    January Bandsters???

I was allowed to have things like yogurt, pudding, hot cereals, protein shakes and all that fun stuff on day 3. My nutriontionist just happened to call me today and I told her I was craving cheese and she suggested the Laughing Cow stuff just because if it's creamy consistency. She told me I can have regular cheese on day 8.

So frustrating. Gaining? On week 3

I'm a month out and I had the same thing happen to me for a week. I think we just shocked the hell out of our system and it is trying really hard to keep things as they were. Not gonna happen! Don't worry, it will come off. I am now drinking drinking drinking btwn meals and I only "eat" three times a day. If I'm hungry before bed I'll have a fudge sickle or a Greek yogurt but I try to eat nothing but "protein and produce" at my meals. I read that in a book. I think I was eating too much (still not much) but not drinking enough. This has really helped me and the scales moving again. I know I should not be so obsessed with the scale but I cannot seem to help it! It's like heroine! It calls to me. Good luck you will do just fine!
  12. I'm still pre-op, but during my assessment with NUT, when I talked about eating sweets in the evening, she suggested trying Yasso Greek frozen yogurt bars. I've tried the chocolate and they are soooooooo yummy. I have the sea salted caramel in my freezer now. I got them at wal-mart.
  13. FAB and ncbabygurl, To add to suggestions from others... I have found the egg/cheese thing suggested on here very helpful. It wasn't puree which was a relief, is high in protein and is very nice. I agree that pureeing things puts you off so yogurt and berries with frozen protein drink made with home made custard base, fruit milk shakes and thicker protein based soups have been my staples. I have tried to have something more pureed once a day though. I have found having some potato to help the chicken/fish etc go down is helpful as is upping the taste with mustard/soy sauce/cheese/BBQ sauce as separate sauces or to increase the flavour has helped too. I hope that helps a bit Claire
  14. So I just got a call from the NUT telling me that even though I called last Friday and asked if I could have yogurt that she does not want me to eat yogurt. She said she consulted another NUT and they told her she had given incorrect info. I haven't had a shake since Friday because I was eating yogurt. I have a hard time choking these shakes down. And I feel like I am starving!! I am so bitchy and weak and have like no brain power. I went to the store and forgot all my bags at the check out because I am in a constant fog. My second pre op with my surgeon is Thursday and then I can do soft foods which sounds like heaven. My husband is having his bypass on April 25th and he is eating pizza and mcdonald's and I have to smell it and it makes me want to cry!!! This is my 3rd WLS and it's been the hardest!! My husband has no idea what he is in for!! I did water aerobics last night a whole hour but barely made it through because I feel weak. I am so discouraged and feel really depressed about having to try to get shakes down. My NUT did say I could put in a tbsp of yogurt in and I did that but it still is just gross to me. What about like sf candy to suck on has anyone been approved to do that?

    February 2014 post op losers

I don't have anything of note to report. That's good news because it means I'm finding some balance. To be honest I spent a lot of the last few weeks in misery. Between head hunger, frustration. Food habits and not being able to eat much of anything, I truly felt overwhelmed and a little defeated. It's been clicking in my head, though. Eat slowly. Small bites. Tiny, tiny portions. The lessons are being learned and I am doing ok! At work I drink my flavored water and eat mostly luquidy type stuff like yogurt and soup. It saves me any embarrassment from not tolerating a food or eating too fast and getting sick. At home I try to have some variation of what I've cooked for my family. I have a few staples on hand that I enjoy in case that isn't a possibility. I don't do the protein shakes. I just hate them. I'm down almost 18 pounds. I'm not going to complain. I thought it would be more but I think it's still more progress than I would've made without this surgery. Some of my favorites are avocado (nnegrates fault), laughing cow cheese, a small egg cooked with a bit of cream cheese to add fluffiness, and Cambell's chicken noodle soup. I've been enjoying yogurt as well. I just take a different one every day. Today I tried a string cheese on my way home from work. I think it will be ok but I need to eat it sloooowwly. How are you guys?
  16. Hi Erin I tend to have eggs for breakfast - a favorite of mine before WLS - I find my day gets off to a god start with some protein and veggies. I usually have them scrambled or poached with a couple of slices of low-carb toast or add veggies & 1 oz low-fat cheese instead (mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, green onions etc). Here's some other ideas I got from various WLS sites - hope they help - good luck. Egg Salad 2 boiled eggs, 1 tablespoon reduced-fat mayo, 3 Ryvita crisp-bread. Total calories = 364 Strawberry Nut Oatmeal
Cook ¾ c dry old-fashioned quick oats with water (to desired consistency), and top with 1 c strawberries or blueberries and 2 Tbsp pecans. Total Calories = 375 Vanilla Fruit-and-Nut Parfait
Mix 1½ c whole grain puffed cereal with 6 oz fat-free vanilla yogurt, 1 c blueberries, and 2 Tbsp almonds. Total Calories = 354 Southwest Breakfast Tacos Fill three soft corn tortillas with the following ingredients: ½ cup egg whites, scrambled; ¼ cup sliced Hass avocado ¼ cup low-fat shredded Cheddar cheese, and ¼ cup salsa verde. Total calories: 363 Breakfast Pita
Warm 1 multigrain pita and fill evenly with 4 scrambled egg whites or ½ c liquid egg, ½ c fresh baby spinach leaves, ¼ c salsa, and ¼ c sliced avocado. Total Calories = 329 Toast and Cheese
Toast 2 slices sesame-sprouted whole grain bread and top with ¼ c nonfat ricotta cheese and 2 Tbsp walnuts. Serve with 1 medium apple. Total Calories = 372 Cashew Crunch
Top 1 slice sesame-sprouted whole grain bread with 2 Tbsp cashew butter and ¼ c raisins. Total Calories = 400 Mediterranean Breakfast Wrap Fill a 100% whole wheat wrap with ½ cup egg substitute, scrambled; 1 oz feta cheese; 1 diced plum tomato; and 10 large sliced black olives. Total calories: 364 Farm Fresh Egg & Cheese Sandwich Drizzle one toasted whole wheat English muffin with 1 Tbsp olive oil. Top the muffin with one large poached egg, 1 slice reduced-fat Swiss cheese, and half of a medium vine-ripened tomato, sliced. Total calories: 387 PB&A Oatmeal
2 Tbsp peanut butter, swirled into ¾ cup quick oatmeal, cooked, and topped with 1 medium sliced apple. Total Calories = 388
  17. I need to go get me some hummus, but what do you have it with? Claire, how about some regular baked Beans and then mash them up a bit? Are you allowed to have cottage cheese or yogurt? Your surgeon does have a diff method, I would not be able to eat Weetabix in the first 6 weeks. I did get to go out to dinner last night and was so pleased. Just didn't feel right on Valentines day. It was the family, not a hot date night. LOL. But we went to our favorite Indian and I got them to take one of my fav veggie curries and blend it all up in a Soup for me! So nice of them! Delicious! And I have some left over.

Vets: What Are You Eating Today?

I'm nearly 3 years post-op. My original weight loss goal was 150, but I ended at 130 and now on average I'm between 135-137. I feel like I need to be eating more unprocessed forms of Protein but life is busy and most times I just grab what's easiest and since I tend to not care about food much any more the repetition doesn't bother me at all, I just want something to put in my stomach; in fact if I don't get my yogurt and trail mix, I'm a bear:-) A typical day for me: B: Yoplait 100 cal. greek yogurt with 1/2 dark chocolate cranberry trail mix or a Pure Protein Bar and 2 cheese Sticks L: 1 cup chicken salad on a bed of spinach and some honey mustard on the side D: 2oz of cheese 5 club crackers, a 100 cal yogurt with 1/4 cup trail mix or a weight watchers meal or a turkey and cheese roll-up S: skinny cow ice cream I try to not to go over 1300 calories but nothing under 1,100. Of course there are days that I go over and under but it all balances itself out.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Yes, I buy premade meals. Another member recommended the Real Good Food brand. They have a lot of high protein low carb foods that you can throw in the microwave. I also do the high calorie, high protein premier protein bars. As mentioned, they are high calories but have tons (30grams) of protein. I don't find myself hungry very often so these work great as a meal for me. I will also do foods I dont have to cook like deli meats, cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruits. October 2018 Sleevers

I'll be hitting the year mark on the 29th. I FINALLY started feeling a bit better about a month ago. I can finally eat more than yogurt without pain/getting sick. So, SO thankful. My first few months, I was creating such good habits - cooking every night, eating healthy stuff. When I started feeling like death in February, all that went out the window because all I could eat was soft foods like yogurt, cheese, or milk. So, here I am, nearly a year out, and I have to start over trying to create the healthy habits. And for some reason it seems harder now than right after surgery, but I'll do it. Now that I can eat, my loss has slowed. I'm up and down a lot, still about 1-2# down in a month. I'm down 135 total, 114 since surgery. Lost 90% EWL and am down to a 26.7 BMI. I'm now a 12/14 (depending on the brand), down from a 24/26. But I still look super flabby. We'll see how it all shakes out now that I can actually eat.

    Vitamin deficiency please help

I do the Procare Health one-a-day capsule with 45mg of Iron. I have no issues taking large pills, but if you do, you might have to open it and put it in Yogurt or something. They also make a twice a day capsule that I assume is smaller if that's what you need? I looked at the specs on eight different bariatric vitamins and felt like the Procare Health capsule was the best. (It was also the ones my team recommended.)

    Best way to get protein

At almost 2 years out I can almost eat anything. Some meals are always the same. Breakfast is always Greek yogurt and berries. My lunch is usually a bit like pick and mix - a bit of a few things, Which could be a selection of these, Smoked salmon, deli meats, burrata, cashew nuts, walnuts, blue stinky cheese, any fruit, tuna, boiled egg or any left over from a previous meal. The evening meal is usually food cooked from scratch for the family with carbs that I can not fit in my stomach yet, casseroles, roasts, pies, stews. I eat what I can. Later in the day I either eat my meals, left overs or have a protein bar or a protein yogurt. My protein is about 80 grams a day now and my calories are between 1200 and 1500

    Protein shake recipes

Thanks, everyone, for the fantastic recipes! I've been experimenting, and here's a game-changer I discovered: the "Berry Bliss Delight." Blend together 1 cup almond milk, a scoop of vanilla protein powder (I prefer GNC brand), a handful of mixed berries (frozen or fresh), and a dollop of Greek yogurt. It's a burst of flavor, packed with protein, and totally masks the usual supplement taste 🍓🥤💖 see my work info
