  1. Hey! I'm 3 months post op from gastric bypass. I've been doing really well getting in my protein and vitamins everyday and the weight is coming off. I feel like however I don't eat nearly enough veggies as pre op and wish I could add more for overall health, wellness and gut health. Do you have any tips or tricks on incorporating more veggies into your meals? I can't really have raw vegetables or raw leafy greans but raw cucumber, raw fruit, raw shredded carrot, raw onion all seem to be fine in moderation. I absolutely HATE mushy cooked vegetables and mostly ate all my veggies raw before surgery (while doing pre op weight loss). Everytime I put cooked vegetables on my plate, I barely touch them because I find them so gross. Anyone have any dishes or tricks they can share on how to incorporate more vegetables? Thanks! May Surgeries - check in!

Today is my one year anniversary also! I feel like I have had the same ups, downs, and experiences that you have had as well. I have gone from 280 to 166 as of Sunday. I’m so afraid of regaining and also that I’m not at a healthy weight for my height (5’3) yet. Sometimes I have to remind myself of how far I’ve come. How far we have all come. It’s kind of mind boggling and amazing how far we have all come in a year. Congrats and happy one year!

    Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?

I used Dr. Armenta with Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana. He’s a hottie, I ain’t gonna lie. A lot of people use Dr. Green there but he’s so popular that he’s booked up 2-3 months out. Mine was a week ago so can’t comment yet on results. I had the SASI (mini gastric bypass plus sleeve removal) Cost was $5600 but is $5800 now. Make sure you ask tons of questions of the surgeon bc the coordinators don’t know what’s going on. It was all Americans in my cohort. The hospital policy is 30+ bmi but I’m not sure if they would make an exception for a revision. Worst case scenario is you could gain 10 lbs and then have it.

    May 2022 surgery?

Hi Possum, Yes I'm getting a two-for-one deal LOL I'm so glad that it's going to get fixed and I'm finally going to have a peaceful nights sleep without the fear of waking up with acid rushing up! Apparently when I lose the weight the hernia will not return, it's weight-related as I've been told by my surgeon, I'm supposed to be on two shakes plus low starch low carb vegetables but I haven't started it yet. I'll start right after mother's day lol I've already lost 13 kilos with my own efforts anyway so I'm assuming 1 week of liquid diet should be sufficient. Hope they can fix yours as well and all the best to you on the 9th keep me updated please! We got this girl! lol

    Absolutely hate myself now

First off, take a deep breath in and out. You’re still early on in your journey. A couple more weeks and you’ll be able to eat whatever you want again just in moderation (like we’re supposed to eat). This will pass. Change is hard. Many of us are able to lose weight on our own but that’s not what the surgery is about. It’s about “maintaining” it and removing the potential for many health comorbidities that could kill us without early intervention. Heck, I got down to a size 2 on my own but couldn’t maintain it and gained it all back plus some. God gives us blessings in ways that we won’t know until the future but it’s all apart of his plan. My own father had WLS but didn’t follow the rules and gained it all back and passed away of a heart attack a few years later. Don’t let these temporary early weeks push you off the bandwagon. You only have one life to live. It will get easier I promise! With love, Quesodip251
  6. Lost 12 lbs in 5 days pre op and post op lost 9 lbs. now stalling at same weight for one week. I feel very discouraged but like others I hope I start losing the weight soon.

    blood pressure changes

It is genetic. Luckily, every time in the past I have lost weight my BP dropped back to normal so I have high hopes for this time too. Although, I was younger so I might just be genetically screwed now. haha

    blood pressure changes

Mine changed instantly. I was on 2 meds and it was still on the high side (130s/90s). In the hospital the only gave me 1 of my BP meds (I don't know why) and it was perfect so I continued this at home and it has stayed perfect. I am hoping I will be able to loose the meds completely after loosing more weight. I can't speak for the glucose. My only medical issue is the high BP.

    Stall or too many calories?

How long since you've lost weight? If its only a short period of time its likely to be a stall. If its a long period of time, have you checked in with your team to go over your food intake. The goals previously given for protein intake may not be applicable now. Are you execising at all?
  10. Hi guys. I am exactly 3 months post op from yesterdays date and I have noticed my weight loss has come to a stop. I am curious as to wether you guys think it’s a stall or am I eating too much? I got covid 2 months post op , before that I was around 600-890 calories a day. After covid my appetite shot up and I’ve now been averaging between 950-1100 calories a day. if I go under that amount I am hungry and get really snappy. I feel so depressed when I look at other peoples calories 3 months out who average at about 800 and still “ struggle “ to eat. Because I don’t anymore and this surgery was my last option at trying to loose weight and I feel like I’ve failed with this now and like everything I try to help me loose weight nothing will ever work for me. a typical day for me looks like this Pre breakfast- Actimel 0% and a Caramel Latte (58 calories) can’t go without my morning latte. breakfast- varies but lately I’ve been having 2 bacon medallions (79 calories) 2 reduced fat pork sausages (162) heinz beans 80G (58 calories) And spoonful of mushrooms ( don’t count the calories as they are too low to workout) so breakfast is quite a big portion in my opinion lunch- chicken with mushrooms new potatoes and green beans (281 calories) or a folded flatbread (102 calories) with roast chicken inside (62 calories) followed also inside by some lettuce and reduced fat sour cream (35 calories) and a dairy Lee dunker (98 calories) tea - Chicken breast (126 calories ) with Mediterranean veg (88 calories) or Haddock with med veg Or reduced fat beef burger on a romaine lettuce leaf with a slice of RF cheese and lighter than light Mayo. snacks usually consist of light baby bels, chicken satay sticks , the small packs of fridge raiders or an options hot chocolate (38 calories ) some days I hit over 100G protein, carbs I eat between 50G/80G fat is under 40G a day, sugar is always under 20G would love ur opinions tips and tricks guys. for reference my programme/consultant never gave me calories to follow was just to always hit my protein goals and my start weight was 21 stone 9 pounds , I am currently 17 stone 12 pounds and 5’5.

    Feeling fat after vsg

You’re experiencing body dysmorphia. It’s weird because you can logically tell yourself your weight is okay & there is the evidence on the scale, the size of your clothes, etc. But then there is a emotional side which is very powerful that tells you that’s not you. You’re still fat, etc. That is the struggle. It takes time to see how you are now. I’d walk past widows & mirrors & wonder who the slim person was. I’d even look about because the woman was wearing the same clothes as me. I remember staring at a pair of skinny jeans I’d bought because I couldn’t believe I could fit into something so small. You may think I’m crazy but I started to check the weight of actors who were a similar height to me so I would get a better understanding of my physical size. I found it helped. A friend is having surgery soon to remove her excess skin (she has a lot) & has been causing a lot of body dysmorphia issues. She has been seeing a therapist to help how she sees herself but she feels while she can physically grab hold of her loose skin she won’t see the slim person underneath. I didn’t do plastics. Many do. I don’t have a lot of loose skin. It doesn’t restrict me in my movements, cause me discomfort or limit how I dress. It’s a reminder if where I was & where I am now. It’s a personal decision whether you do have surgery or don’t.

    blood pressure changes

Lower blood pressure & pulse rate is a great side effect of your weight loss. Some do find the experience quite significant drops for a while & have issues on getting up with vision narrowing, doughy head & at worst fainting - postural hypotension. My BP was always 120/80 but I had a tendency for drops at times especially when I was at a lower weight. Now my blood pressure is low all the time (60/50 - 80/60). It will hit 100 if I’m rushing about. I experience narrow vision & a doughy head on & off all day long depending upon what I’m doing. My resting pulse sits in the 60s. Last hospital stay they asked if I was an athlete which was hilarious because I avoid exercise. But that’s me & a tendency to low blood pressure is common on my mother’s side so genetic. I think being overweight actually pushed my BP up to a healthy 120/80.
  13. For me, the winning combo was losing some weight (back then it was like 30 pounds), birth control for 3 months because I have ovarian cysts that needed to be absorbed and I needed my periods regulated, 1500mg of Metformin and 100mg of Clomid. My 2nd month off the birth control pills, I got pregnant with my daughter.
  14. Thanks so much for that info. I’ve done a lot of research on PCOS and a lot of reading here as well. It seems like the weight loss surgery helps a lot but then there are some stories that have me worried! So I’m trying to stay positive and keep believing that I will be a success story.

You’re grieving which is very common after surgery. I really hope you will consider seeing a therapist to support you. Did you see one before surgery & discuss your worries? I’m surprised you actually were able to have the surgery if you were questioning & had so many concerns about proceeding with the surgery. Did you bring them up with your surgeon or medical team before hand. Your comment that you hope you die soon is very concerning. Please speak to someone. With a BMI of 36 you are severely obese. If you don’t have any comorbidities at the moment, they would have been in your near future. I didn’t have any but I knew it was only by the grace of God & my days were numbered until I had diabetes, heart issues, mobility issues, etc. How you are having to eat now is not your future. It’s just through your healing stage & then while you are losing weight. Most people eat a lot of their old favourites just not as frequently & in much smaller portion sizes or swap out some ingredients so it’s healthier. You may even be surprised that you start to enjoy foods you didn’t before. But again, please seek some help.

    OOTD

I love that blue colour too @GreenTealael. So fresh. Perfect for spring. I’m always fascinated by how easy it often is to date wedding gowns. Sleeve shapes, frills, fabrics, shapes, wraps. Can’t wait to see everyone’s pxts of their gowns. Great idea @Sophie7713. How did I miss you went to Kleindfield’s @ms.sss?? Who looked after you? Disappointed you didn’t see Randy. And yes, let’s push OOTD back up on trending topics. Food before & after & OOTD are my favourite threads too. Let’s get some of the newer forum members posting. Bought these pewter stretch boots a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to their first wearing. Love the reflective heel. PS. Waffle weave blanket twinsies @Sophie7713. I love mine & keep it on my bed all year round. It’s the perfect weight during our summer when I still feel cold.

Just hold on - It really is normal to feel what you’re feeling. Once you see the weight continue to drop off, you will fell different. The recuperation from surgery is no joke. Since you have fasted for so long and (depending what your doctor instructed you are probably eating purée food), you have released all of the toxins from pre surgery. This is really a chemical change and you’ll feel not so good but it’s just for now-not for always. You will make it ! You will feel differently when you eat real food. One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at time. You will make it and you’ll tell others that there is a light at the end of this journey. It will be alright.

you remind me a bit of my cousins. They are very picky eaters. The reason why you cant drink with your food is because you need that space for the protein and not to wash it away so quick. But i mean you can take a sip with your food. and while there are certain things that are off limits. once you are healed up, you should be able to eat what you use to but just less of it. I mean i cant wait to eat pizza again. No i wont be able to chow down 4-5 slices of a meat lovers pizza anymore but once i heal up i can have a slice of some thin crust pizza. But you are 6 weeks post op so you should be able to eat a decent amount of solid food. Just give it time. i know waiting sucks (I am the most impatient person in the world) But you will get there where you can enjoy those things again. As for your weight. you are the same height as me. I am 5'4. I remember being 210lb. That was when i lived in Puerto Rico. Back then i didnt think i was too overweight. But i sure didnt want to take off my shirt at the beach lol. But from 210 i started to quickly climb in weight and my shirt sizes kept going up and my pant size as well. you should be able to hopefully get to maybe 130-150 and you will feel amazing but we gotta get over this tiny section of our lives to get to the good stuff... Seriously just hang in there.
  19. I should've canceled because I was losing the weight on my own before this horrible choice. I am 5ft4 and was 210.. was also told I never looked very big but my brain convinced me otherwise.. I don't even care about losing the weight anymore, I don't care about being thin or skinny. I am just going to isolate myself like I always do because now after mutilating my insides..I don't deserve any good ever again. Sent from my SM-G781W using BariatricPal mobile app

Have you tried playing with the temperature and humidity settings? Once I got my air a little cooler and increased the humidity so my mouth wouldn't dry out I found mine much more tolerable! And the decrease in stroke and heart attack risk from wearing it is a big selling point for me. At this point I've been wearing it every night for 2+ years and I get a sore throat if I sleep without it. Idk what I'll do if I lose a bunch of weight and no longer qualify for it. It's comforting. I hope you find a way for it to work for you, I know they always ask at every appointment whether I'm wearing it every night. CPAP: haven’t tried playing with anything yet. I’m just making sure I don’t get wrapped up in tubing. 😂🤣 My scores are getting better, and I’m going to try it tonight for the whole night. I’ll see how it goes.

you feel this way because you should have cancelled and didnt... But why? why should you have cancelled? Also let us know your height and weight since you said you didnt need the surgery. We are trying to understand you and help you
  22. Ugh, I'm in one right now. Going on 4 weeks. It's the longest and most annoying one so far, and happened at about 8 months from surgery. I had a couple week one back in November and a few much shorter ones in between. However, I can say that while the weight is stalled this time around, I've lost inches. I'm telling myself this will pass, and maybe my body is taking time to settle in before we tackle the next 10-15 lbs. I'm just continuing to do what I have been doing, and trying not to get obsessed with it.
  23. I’m 3.5 years out. Well first depends what you define as a stall. I went by the definition whereby: Stall = 7 consecutive days of no net weight loss AND no inch loss in that same period. By that definition, I didn’t have any. There was one week in month 3 when I thought i was going to record a stall, but I ended up losing less than 1 lb that week, and on “measurement day” (for me it was Wednesdays) i ended up recording like tiny fractions of inch loss in various areas. So technically, not a stall. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t semi-disappointed that week and that the familiar fear of regain didn’t rear its ugly head. And wondered, yikes! is this it? Stalls, excess skin and hair loss, the holy trinity of WLS fears. They happen to most more often than not, and become non issues at the same frequency. Stay in your calorie deficit and it’ll come of. You sound like you are taking it in stride though (vs panicking and suffering in angst)…so you are already ahead of the game ❤️ Good Luck! ❤️
  24. It seems that I am literally the only one who 100%completely regrets this surgery. I have never hated myself this much in my life. I was so obsessed with this weight loss crap for 3 yrs and now 6 weeks healed from VSG and I hate life completely now. I will never be or feel like myself again and feel I don't deserve anything good ever again. This was the worst decision of my life and I keep having ptsd flashbacks of wishing I had never done this..that I canceled when I had the chance. Why am I the only one who fully regrets this.. I can't be the only one in the world who regrets it completely... Sent from my SM-G781W using BariatricPal mobile app

Did your surgeon give a rational or cite any medical evidence for using this approach? Or is this a case-by-case thing he's chosen for you? Feel free not to answer if too personal a question. Have you tried playing with the temperature and humidity settings? Once I got my air a little cooler and increased the humidity so my mouth wouldn't dry out I found mine much more tolerable!
