  1. You might think with "10 years" nearing in my postOp Adventures certain basics might be no longer an issue. What does seem to be inescapable, is the incredible fickle nature of my Band, Symbiant....the Little Angel of the Silicon Fisssst...... Day 1 lunch stop: usually able to eat 1 egg, 1 bacon, 1 piece of toast. Not today....the Slimes took over after just a few nibbles. Didn't think I made error of eating. Recovery in ~20 minutes. Day 2 Breakfast on real sour dough pancakes. Able to eat 1 egg & 1 4" cake, plus 1/4 of second sourdough. Walked the thin line between the slimes & 'all is well'. Day 3 breakfast on 1 bacon & a couple bites of granola. Almost made it without the slime pups visiting. Day 3 lunch: Small bit of battered 'fish & chips'. Didn't work well with a few nibbles, threw it away. On the other hand, the handful of tater tots were not a problem. Day 4 dinner most excellent Prima Vera Italian. Ate about 2 cups including a bit of angel hair Pasta & some shrimp. The broccoli buds were a bit too much but managed without slime dogs. Day 5 lunch small bean/cheese burrito. Odd this was the most wretched event of the trip. Took an hour to recover. And the same place and same pinto bean burrito that worked well for me Day 1. In any case, the Observations of Modified eating really show me that some of my Old Bad Habits remain lurking. Have a check up coming in a few weeks. The challenge of eating while traveling is just as real for poor choices and inadequate chewing/etc as ever. It is easier to be distracted while traveling, hence this brief story. Conclusion: Good Nutritional Choices and Good Eating Mechanics can not be ignored just because you are on a road trip.

    Surgery on the 15th

Sending good vibes mine is Feb 26, 2019. Sending you good vibes.. so my dr gave me a list of things to bring in my over night tote, slippers, loose clothes, gas x pills. (Chewabla) compression stockings if needed. Any medication I am taking. These were the important ones. Sent from my SM-G950W using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Hi Sandee I have the same insurance as you do. The bcbs horizon of NJ. It covers the sleeve surgery. I have to meet my deductible first ($750) then it covers 90% of surgery. I believe I have to pay the 10%. What I am wondering is when do I have to pay the 10%? Does the hospital bill you for it ? Do you have to pay it up front before surgery? I am in Rhode Island
  4. Hi my fellow sleevers. I don't post here often enough anymore but I get so much support and motivation here. I'm hoping this will give encouragement to someone who needs it. I was sleeved in May 2013. I have spent the last almost three months in a stall and bouncing up and down. Although I felt like giving up I didn't. I stuck with the program. Suddenly in the last ten days, eight pounds fell off putting me at a normal bmi. I have to admit I had started to believe this wouldn't happen. My doc set my goal at 170-177 (still overweight) so when I stalled for so long at about 166 I thought, well I guess that's it. I wasn't done and I'm still not done. I'm now 158 and sky's the limit! My weight loss has gone mostly like this. Long stalls with chunks of loss here and there. I was 240 the day I was sleeved and my highest weight was 268. Good luck to everyone.
  5. I had exactly the same experience, and I know how hard it is to remain optimistic with that pain. After the first few days it subsided enough that it was only really bad when I was changing position. I tried the binder and found it to be uncomfortable because it restricted my breathing but the support at night was the only way I was able to sleep comfortably so I did use if for a few nights. Otherwise I basically pressed into that incision with an open palm when I was switching positions and that helped. It was bad, no joke. But I can't stress enough to keep moving. As odd as it sounds I went back to work (pre k teacher) at 15 days and I was literally in tears the night before because I didn't think I could do it with the pain - but apparently it was the best thing for me because it's 5 days later and by my third day at work I realized I am not in pain at all. Now at 19 days I feel normal! So I don't know if it's the moving or what that helped speed along the recovery of that poor beat up muscle but I have to assume it was because it was the only thing that changed. I was literally sitting on my couch going for short walks and running little errands when someone would drive me and now it's like nothing happened. Keep your eye on the prize. I know it sucks but better things are right around the corner. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I hardly have any Protein HELP

Some great suggestions here for you to follow. Since you are only about 6 weeks post-op you need to be careful that you are following your surgeon's post-op food plan and not introducing solid foods or difficult to digest food too quickly. You stomach has been through a MAJOR TRAUMA and you need to give it time to heal properly. It can take up to 6 months for the swelling to completely subside and the healing to complete! My second focus is to suggest you adjust your state of mind..........you've lost 35 lbs! In 6 weeks! When was the last time you lost 6 lbs/week? Not losing much? Wow! I am 10 months post-op and my average loss right now (over those 10 months) is 2.85 lbs/week. You are losing LOTS! Believe me! And if you happen to be stuck (or stalled) right now, that is completely normal. Type "Week 3 stall" into the search box in the top right corner of this website. You'll see alot of people stop losing weight temporarily around this time period. It's great that you're looking for advice on protein intake (perhaps you should start logging your food on a website/app such as MyFitnessPall?). Just remember that your weight loss is a journey that is non-linear and you will have stalls, periods of fast loss (that sometimes don't make sense!) and some slow periods (but still losing). Your body is trying to figure out what's going on. It's making adjustments and adapting to it's changing physiology and energy stores. Give your body time, and your mental health with thank you! Good luck!

    Any Self Payers???

I kind of consider myself both. My insurance covers as of 01/01/2008, but only 50%. So, surgery is $17,000, meaning I still have to come up with $8,500. This includes all fills/aftercare for 12 months. Fills will be $100 each after one year. I'm still waiting to get the go ahead from ins so I can set my date!!!

    Surgery TODAY!

My Surgery was scheduled for 7:00 this morning.. At 7:00 I was scared to death and was was in the holding area. They came and gave me a shot if Versed to help me relax. I barely remember anything else until I woke up in recovery at 10:30. My surgery finally got underway at 7:30 and the doc came out to speak with my family at 9:30. So far, it has been a little more painful than my band surgery, which I guess is to be expected. I am very sensitive to anesthesia and have been nauseated for most of the day. I have walked up a down the hall a few times. All in all it has not been as bad as I had feared!!! Let me know if you guys have any specific questions. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes,
  9. I'm currently in the process of fulfilling insurance requirements so we're looking at a timeline of around June'ish. I will get done with the requirements the early part of May then they said that insurance companies take between 2-3 weeks to send back approval should they approve. Once i have the approval they will look at his schedule and see what is available. I have a family reunion the second week of June in Illinios (about a 10-hour drive) so I think I will choose to do it when we return so I'm not on the road and away from my doctor if needed
  10. I've never been 70kg as an adult, I always hovered around 78-79kg before I got really fat. My healthy weight range is 63-79kgs, you can find healthy weight charts in a million places, in every calorie counter you buy for example. I knew that at 79kg I never felt thin. I was chunky, definitely not able to wear what I wanted and at that weight (which is about 180lb or so) and 5ft 10, I was definitely sized out of regular clothing at an Australian 16 (American 14 or so), I had to buy fat old nanna clothes and I loathed it. And I just knew, going by the covering of fat I had, that it was still overweight for me. So I set 70kg as a goal. My surgeon never asked but the nutritionist I saw for one visit did. She told me it was overambitious and not likely to happen. I ignored her, her nutrition advice was pretty generic and crap too. Having gotten to this weight, i can see I am not "a big girl" or "big boned" like people always used to say about me as a child and teen. I was never obese but always hefty. I am actually quite fine boned and lightly muscled and I am not meant to be at the heavy end of my weight range. My weight at the moment is just fine, but I could easily be 10lb lighter and not be too thin. Yet 5ft 10 and 145lb or so on here seems to cause screams of "you'll be scrawny, it'll look horrible". Its a moot point anyway since I dont seem to be able to move from 154.

    Any Self Payers???

Hi! I was also self-pay. I took out a personal loan to finance mine. I got mine done in Denver and paid 9875. The fills are free for the first 3 months, and only $15 a fill after that. It's been great and I would never change it...I get my 2nd fill on 4/10 and can't wait to feel more restriction. Good luck with everything!!
  12. My lapband failed just and i got the sleeve 10/05/15 my surgeon said my adhesions was like a landmine. I think you will do Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
  13. I'm not so restricted that I can't eat, but I do get full faster. I can still eat more than I probably should be able to, but I don't let myself eat more than a visual cup full at a time. I'm tracking calories approximately through fitday but not exactly. My weightloss has REALLY come to a creeping stop, and I'm figuring my calroies probably has something to do with it... or it could just be my body "recalibrating" after losing so much so quickly, but in the last 6 - 7 weeks I've lost 5#. I'd love to know if I'm eating wrong... anything to get the weight moving off again while staying as healthy as I can be, so tell me what you think, here's what I ate yesterday and what I've eaten so far today: Breakfast: Protein drink made w/ fat free Carb Countdown milk, with a tbl of low fat/low carb Peanut Butter and a bit (about 1/5) of banana blended in. Lunch: about 40% of a medium chicken breast with a little bit of sauce made with chopped tomatoes, asiago cheese & garlic roasted garlic... and about 2 spoons of mashed potatoes. Snack: Protein Drink made w/ fat free Carb Countdown milk, with 4 oz light OJ. Dinner: Microwaved turkey pepperoni (cook the fat out, has lots of protein) and cottage cheese, about 20 pepperoni and about 1/2 C cottage cheese. Breakfast: 1/2 protein drink w/ low fat/low carb peanut butter blended in. Lunch: 3 grilled chicken tenders, about 2 tsp mashed potatoes, and 1 bite of applesauce (that's the applesauce that prompted my post) Snack: will be the other half of my protein drink. Dinner: Will likely be leftover from lunch yesterday. A typical day might look like this: Breakfast: protein drink with something blended in it, either PB or SF DaVinci, or maybe just a few berries. Lunch: Chipotle chicken bol with just a few black Beans, no rice, green chile salsa, just a bit of sour cream, no cheese. I'll eat half. Dinner: The other half of the chicken bol. Snack: Protein drink (more to make sure I get enough protein than because I'm hungry), or if I'm hungry I'll make 10 microwaved turkey pepperonis.
  14. hi, i'm new to this site. i got banded on feb. 10, 2006. so far i've lost 28lbs. i wish i knew about this site before i got banded. there are so many different issues anything u want to know about. how do u set up one of those weight graphs on the botom of your postings. understand i am not very computer literit. i think those are cool.
  15. Hello, I am on here because I recently had the Lap Band. Just 4 days ago. Im doing awesome. I have a few questions in regards to the diet as of now...the liquid diet. Im not sure if im suppose to be only eating like the broth and jello 3 times a day or does the 3 times a day rule come into play like after the 2nd week when you start to add the pureed consistancy foods. I feel fine. I think the majority of the inital pain was definatly the gas and the swelling. The gas was brutial. I was very glad that I was expecting this. If not I would have thought I was having a heart attack. WALK WALK WALK...that is definately what I reccommend, the walking really does help. Once I finally got to my house and walked up stairs, that really helped release some gas. I would strongly suggest if you have steps near to use them, if not use the hospital steps before your discharged. I am going to strongly testify that walking really got me thru this. I have 4 co-workers that also have been banded so I got lots of advice from them. I believe this issue was their worst. Day 3 for me, I was having bm's I never had to use a laxitive. Day 4 so far, the swelling as gone down and im not near as sore. Day 3, I could really feel the incisions that was the majority of my pain. I also had more energy and it was hard to stay in bed, I was getting bored. I had my shower yesterday and it definately tired me out. After that it was very easy to stay in bed. Im just so glad that I did this and cant wait to start exercising to get this moving. Im still unclear about the first two weeks...if Im suppose to be like eating the broth 3 times a day, or is the 3 time a day rule kinda like ignored during this period since its all liquids?? I need to find that answer out. I dont want to stretch anything out. I havent been wanting to call the doctor since its the weekend. I suppose I like to be as low maintaince as possible. Well thats my story in a nut shell!!
  16. Today was my first pos-top appt. Tomorrow will make 2 weeks since surgery and nutritionist & doc released me to soft solids. Woohoo! My tastes and cravings, as predicted, have changed quite a bit. I couldn't wait to get a hold of some chicken breast. Hubby took me out to Olive Garden and they have some new "small plates" offerings on their menus now. One was a single chicken skewer with choice of a drizzle of Alfredo or red wine sauce. It was maybe 3 oz of chicken but it was perfect! Afterwards we went to the grocery store and I stocked up on Cajun fish fillets (Gortons frozen), precooked chicken breast strips, Steamables frozen veggies, a variety of Indian, Thai & Chinese sauces for the chicken, and I've discovered a new favorite snack....Snapea Crisps - Caesar flavor. They are awesome! 1/2 a normal serving is like 10-11 pods and is only 60 calories and even has a few grams of Protein. Very satisfying to get that crunch we all miss. Am looking forward to simple lunch and dinner meals with chicken breast, some sort of sauce, and a little steamed veg. I do still miss my Chinese food but at least I have the sauces now, just not the batter on the fried chicken. Also the simple pleasure of a scrambled egg for Breakfast or tuna salad for lunch! It really is the simple things now, ain't it? Keep fighting the good fight, y'all!

    Anxiety

So you would have to drink 8-10 cups of milk each day to meet minimal protein requirements. Are you able to do this?

Embarrassed to go for a fill

Thirty pounds since November is awesome!! Nothing to be ashamed of at all! Remember, your bariatric team is there to help YOU. I probably had 10 fills before my band started working for me. Hang in there, you're doing great!

    Going stir crazy

You can do the liquid diet. For my first surgery I had to lose 10% of my weight. I did a medically supervised liquid diet for 63 days with three meals that I cheated on (with the doctors permission)- high Protein, low carb. Find something to do with your hands. I learned to crochet during my diet.

    Application Completed --

Went to seminar on 6/15. Great presentation! Impressed with surgeons. Application completed and submitted. Waiting for my PCP and Endocrinologist to write letters of medical necessity. Aetna sent me copy of criteria to be met - looks like I meet them! Just waiting to hear back from Portsmouth. Would like to do this in the fall. Working on losing the first 10 pounds on my own. Dr. switched me to Byetta to help with weight loss - awful headaches and nausea...not sure this is the way I want to lose this.
  22. Oh, I got sick today. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. I ate abotu 10 McD's fries from the kids meals and then about 5 minutes later had a few sips of ice Water. Stomach felt full and hurt but I have had that before. However, about 5-10 minute slater, I dry heave a few times and still felt no better. I then felt this slick stuff in the back of my throat - gross - that continued off and on for about 15 minutes. Then it all came up ... tons of slimy mucos and the fries. I guess I have been slimed. Just trying to figure out if it was bec I added water on top of the food or because I ate too much. Any thoughts?
  23. I agree with you all. I use to love her show but I think she is getting so fake. It is definitely not the easy way out. I remember getting banded one year ago this month and I was at 275 pounds and I thought OMG next summer I'll be at goal and in a bikini, boy was I wrong. I went through 4 months of fills, unfills, no weight loss whatsoever. I had got to a weight I use to weigh for years and it wouldn't budge. Thank god in the last 2 weeks I've lost 10 pounds but it is not the easy way out. One year later I'm at 210 pounds still far from my goal of 155. I guess 65 pounds in one year could be worse but I'm very dissappointed but I have never drank and haven't picked up any new habits. I think that's bull. Good luck to you all. Wish we luck that this weightloss continues. I was getting my fills so tight I couldn't eat any meat and wouldn't loose an ounce. I was up to 3.25 in 4.cc's small 9.75 mini and now I'm at 2.0 and losing. Go figure. These things are weird but I can't eat anything now just not much of it.

Looking for other "Low" BMI Bandsters

I started with bmi of 36 - gained 10 pounds to push me over threshold for insurance. Now at 32 bmi going into surgery on July 5. I don't think it is frivolous for me to do this. Other people who told me I don't really need this don't prick their fingers 2 times a day and take metformin along with its wonderful side effects. They also don't have a genetic disease that prediposes them to liver disease and possibly requiring a transplant. So, I'm doing this so I can live longer with a better quality of life. Quality of life also includes living without discrimination that overweight/obese people face. Sorry for rant.
