Post-Vacation Status Update: Back to work now that my vacation is over. Somehow, I managed to not gain any weight over the last 14 days that I've been doing the all-inclusive thing on vacation. I drank plenty and I skipped my protein shake regiment as well due to a lack of easy to attain shakes in the Caribbean. The good thing is that about 10 out of the 14 days I did my elliptical workout in their fitness center. I did still manage to avoid complex carbs, just had a bunch of simple ones in the "drinks of the day" cocktails. I think this can count as a "proud" moment. I truly thought i was going to gain weight after coming back. I didn't weigh myself until this morning.

Yes, I feel that way every time I shop. I thought if I made it to a single digit size it would be amazing. I figured an 8 would be my final size. When I hit that size, but wasn't to goal yet, I wasn't sure where I'd end up. Currently, I'm a petite small tops and 4P pants. Even though it's a lot more fun to shop these days, I'm trying not to go overboard because I feel like I may go down one more size when I decide to have plastics. I've bought some pants at Sam's Club and Costco because they have nice stuff and it's cheap! I won't feel so bad giving away $10 yoga pants or $15 jeans if they no longer fit. I wear scrubs at work and have gone from an XLP to XSP and probably could go to XXSP but I have reached the point where I refuse to buy any more because I hope to retire in 3 yrs and who really cares if they are just a little too big! Maybe I'll change my mind when all is said and done! I did "treat" myself to a Lily Pulitzer dress that cost $138 for reaching goal. I haven't spent that much for anything while in the weight loss phase! I was in the store, loved it, and felt a sense of pride when I had to ask the clerk if they had a small in stock. For once I didn't get that "that's never gonna fit you look!"

So around the first couple months of 2018, I decided my health was bad enough to do the drastic. Weighing at around 475lbs, out of control diabetic, a lot of health stuff, couldn’t do anything hardly but sit around dying, slowly. Fast forward to October 2018, day of my surgery was at 430lbs. It’s September 2019, I’m at 318lbs. I feel so much better! I’m in my first stall. My goal is 200lbs or under. My diabetes is nowhere to be found, from the day of my surgery to now, it’s totally good, no more insulin. I’m going to the gym2-3 times a week. I have a few pics to see. Tried to do before, during and after in order. The last pic is about a week ago.

It is safe, for those they say to do less days. One difference is the size of livers... the 10 day diet is to help shrink the liver to get it out of the way. Those with lower BMI's don't necessarily need to shrink the liver. Sometimes it is just surgeon preference. They pump your stomach at the start of surgery, so there won't be food in there regardless. At least mine does, and I can't imagine other docs don't do it since they are cutting your stomach in half. -

lol, well lying down and dying wasn’t an option so I chose plan A— survival 😂😂 Seriously though... thanks. It’s hard even now after 10 years to accept that what I did was quite phenomenal. In the moment, it was just surviving til the next step was over. I will say this though: people automatically assume getting cancer and being on chemo will make you emaciated— um... nope! I gained OVER 25 pounds of that hard-fought 40 and then added another 15 in the next year. The whole year of being on steriods, followed by the metabolic disaster of the chemo finally did in what my chronic dieting had not already destroyed. It took me a few years to admit it, but my metabolism was completely and hopelessly damaged. What funny is now that I know this, I see many many patients of mine who have also come out successfully the other side of chemo complain about inability to lose weight, pre-diabetes, and even full-blown type 2DM years later. Edited to add: It was a second cancer scare in early 2018 that got my butt motivated to do something like WLS to get this weight off. Not sure if everyone knows this, but the number one risk factor for ANY kind of cancer is obesity. Still being MO for 10 years post cancer was stressing me out so much. Luckily scare #2 was just that— a false alarm, but I’m thankful now that it happened bc it was the wake up call I needed to make this drastic of a lifestyle change. -

We are all different. My nutritionist did a group class and she kept talking about the 10 day liquid diet (and other instructions), but then would come over and whisper to me because my plan is totally different than everyone else's plan. Basically, I was fast tracked through everything... most had 6 months of appointment requirements, I only had 3 months. They had 10 days of pre-op diet, I was initially told 3 days but then she changed it to 2 days. I am starting off with a lower BMI and they didn't want me to lose too much weight pre-op. -
I have to do the preop diet for 10 days. 2 shakes a day and weight watchers dinner. I can also have up to 1 cup of celery & carrots🙄

Lap-Band to Bypass Revision w/Insurance
Lauren87 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, All: I was banded in 2009 and never had much success with it. Any time I got restriction, it came with a lot of heartburn (which manifested itself as nausea). I also struggled with a lot of food intolerance. Eventually, because my insurance switched and I have a written exclusion regarding bariatric surgery, I had the band mostly unfilled due to too much restriction and cost. At any rate, in January, my health insurance plan will now include bariatric surgery, although it’s unclear as to what language looks like regarding revisions. One concern I have is how to make a case to the insurance company deeming the revision medically necessary. I have had many EGDs, which showed mild irritation in my esophagus, but nothing extreme. Grandest, it’s been almost 10 years since anyone’s looked at the band and who knows what the current state of affairs is—I will have an evaluation once my insurance kicks in. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips in dealing with insurance companies covering revision when severe symptoms, slippage, erosion, etc isn’t present? -

Rarity 😍 Had about 10-15 and ... Done -
1. My personal goal: Practice intermittent fasting throughout the month and get a better mastery over this new tool. 2. VGS on 2/6/19. Still losing. 80 pounds gone, 20-25 to go. 3. CW: 166.8 (taken last Thursday) BMI is 26.2 4. Will choose easy because the first half of this month is going to be beastly for me 5. Favorite flaw: I enjoy eating on the same leftovers for days on end because it’s just easier that way. Ironically, even though I’d spent so much of my life MO, I’m not a foodie at all. Simpler is better.

February 2019 weight loss buds

At the age of 50, I knew going hard-core anything really wasn’t on the table for me. Especially at the start of this with a healing from surgery body and still carrying around so much weight. That’s why finding Pilates was such a life saver for me in the beginning. I’ve started getting more aggressive on my treadmill and can’t wait to start actually running again. I’ve always loved running (even though I’ve never been a natural for it) and I fully give running credit for saving my life over 10 years ago. I had turned 40 at the end of 2008 and decided to make another stab at losing weight and getting fit. Well I lost 40 pounds over 8 months and started running. It was when I would go on my longer runs (4-5 miles or more) that I would notice chest pains. That made me go to my PCP who saw I was 40 and recommended a mammogram in addition to the ekg. Turns out my chest pains weren’t heart related, they were because I had a tumor in my left breast. Would’ve never found it til too late according to many doctors. Anyway, exercise for me will never be triathlon/iron man kind of stuff, but I do love getting a bit of a sweat on and I love the control that Pilates gives me over my body now. -
Okay so I literally could waste pages here quoting and commenting on everyone’s cute outfits. Looooooooove all of them. Side question: how many of you guys are currently struggling to find your style? I’ve spent so much of the last 20+ years wearing whatever I thought made me look the least fat/whatever was available to purchase in my size and what my pocketbook could afford. Now that I’ve moved from a size 22/24 and my size 12s are getting slightly roomy, I’m about to start my fall purchases in size medium/10. As I do this, I realize that I’m still gravitating to some of the “same old, same old” kinds of looks and I’m startled by the fact that I honestly have no idea (besides my necessary requirement for comfy shoes) what I want the new wardrobe to look like

Loosing too much weight
Healthy_life2 replied to Izab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Are you eating your maintenance phase food instructions to slow/stop weight loss? 1000 calories will keep you in weight loss mode. Glad you are slowly increasing them. I understand that you are sick of shakes. If you choose to get calories in with shakes, Read food facts on the back. Weight loss shakes - premier protein shake 160 calories – 30 grams protein, 5 grams carb, 1-gram fat. It won’t help you gain An option is a weight gaining shake: you decide how many scoops to add. 3 scoops = 1360 calories 198 carbs – 10 grams fat– 40grams protein. Choose a weight you feel healthy at. I’m sorry you feel too thin at 130lbs BMI of 24 = Goal weight is personal choice - 133lbs BMI 25 over weight zone for your height. BMI calculator link below: https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm SIDE NOTE: I’m five years out – My BMI fluctuates from 21 to 23 It’s a healthy BMI zone. it's what works for me. I hope you find what works for you. -
So I’ve been having severe right side pain. It is not surgical pain. I can’t even walk without pain. When I lay down the pain is gone. Has anyone else ever had this pain? I was sleeved 8/27/19 pod 6. I might go to the ER because this does not feel normal. Also, I don’t think it’s gallbladder since I don’t have fever, nausea, etc. Also, I’m wondering if it’s just muscle pain.

I need this for my saggy pancake butt!! 1. Posting your personal goal: 140 (recently lowered from 150 as I close in on that number) 2. Add your surgery type, status (pre/post op, losing/maintenance): VSG on 10/17/18 3. Weight and BMI (not necessary but encouraged): weight: 153 bmi: 25.1 4. Choose between the easy or advance squat routine: easy routine because of my knee issues, but will play around with advanced when possible 5. Tell us your favorite flaw: I'm drinking way too much flavored water. All sugar free and carbonation free, of course. But man, a nice, cold pineapple or strawberry crush flavored water is so refreshing when it's hot outside. I'm working on cutting back to more plain water!

Fat and Carb intake at stage 3
Deedee12 replied to Bianca S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try my best to keep carbs at below 20 grams. I'm typically at 15 grams net carbs of an approximately 500 cals daily. Fat is negligible for me. It's typically fat in Yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta or my tablespoon of Olive oil. My plan says Dense proteins in fish, chicken, Turkey, canned Tuna, Tofu or eggs. And cooked green veggies OR soft fruits ( Berries except black berries, melon, Apple with skin off, fresh or canned with no syrup). All in 1/2 cup. For every 3 bites of protein, 1 bite of veggies. No starch, grains or sugar. So 60 grams to 80 grams proteins 15 to 20 grams carbs 10 to 15 grams fat Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
according to the BMI chart, the normal range for someone 5'1 is 100-130 lbs, so you're not underweight, at least according to the chart. Don't forget that many of us have a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting our lowest weight, so you may very well end up at 130, without even trying. to gain, though, you just have to increase your calories. But your body may just naturally bounce back. I at one time got into the 130s and felt too thin (I'm 5'6"), but I started regaining (without trying) in year 3 and ended up at 150, which is probably a better weight for me (and easier to maintain!)

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 8/23/19 and am feeling hungry. Has anyone else felt hungry after their surgery.? I read that people lose their appetite, but my stomach still seems to growl, or is it just gurgeling?

Thought I'd upload a shot if me wearing that dress. Same one I wore onstage in my band all those years ago [emoji4] Went to a conference and wore it at a cocktail party. Lots of people there didn't even recognize me! I've finally transitioned from 'obese' to 'overweight', by BMI standards, anyway! I'm still losing significant weight atm (I think over 10 pounds last month) but I'm expecting a stall soon. My stalls are getting longer and longer... it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if I lost nothing this month at all. Hope everyone's doing well and keeping positive! Where's Recidivist at? Have you moved to winterless Australia yet, my friend?? Can't wait to hear about your move! Stay away from the TimTams. Hehe! [emoji23] Sent from my CPH1719 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hello! Waiting for surgery date
Bastian replied to SassyTwin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi @SassyTwin I am very new to all of this as I had a sleeve done on Aug 12th and an emergency bypass done a week later, so I hadn't read much on the bypass as that isn't what I went in for lol So, even though it had to be done nobody filled me in on the differences or the info I needed regarding the bypass. So you may well know most of these but I will share my questions and ponderings with you anyway. Take extra sleepwear/underwear just in case you end up in there longer than anticipated. Take basic toiletries Take some feminine hygiene products just in case, the sudden change in hormones from surgery and drastic weight loss so quickly caused a release of oestrogen from the fat cells which meant I needed some products, even though I am perimenopausal with a coil and haven't needed any for a while! (that was a shocker!) I wish I had taken a good body lotion in with me as I became very dry all over, my skin looked like it had aged 10 years everywhere I wish I had taken my own v-shaped pillow in as I found the hospital pillows really thin and pointless. (I got it in there in the end!) If you are on medication before you go in, find out about getting all of them in liquid form if possible. Take a heat pack and an instant ice pack or 2 You will be uncomfortable lying on your back if you are usually a side sleeper, so be mentally prepared Have a good protein powder ready at home that is a small scoop (genepro) rather than the one I currently have which is a large scoop and froths up too much. Have a good supply of savoury high protein soups ready at home because those of us with a Bypass don't seem to be able to tolerate the sweet one's post-op. Learn what you can about dumping syndrome so you can try and prevent it happening to you Learn what you can about being lactose intolerant post-op too, I didn't know this was a thing with bypass Read read read what you can on here, so much fantastic info, advice and support GOOD LUCK
