  1. my doc gave me a list, first 3 days after surgery = liquid diet days 4-7 full liquid days 8-10 = puree days 11-14 minced week 3 soft week 4 bariatric regular not a whole lot to choose from on the list, everything is fat free, sugar free, and you got the Protein first cottage cheese, mashed pototes, pureed meats, pureed veggies, sf yogurts, cream of wheat, oatmeal, then on week 4 you can pretty much eat anything just cut into tiny pieces, some things like raw veggies, tough fruit and hot peppers are to be avoided for like 6 months hope that helps good luck
  2. I'm 6 weeks post op and now allowed to try new foods. If I try something that doesn't bother me at the time, can it cause nausea the next day? I thought if it doesn't make you sick right away you should be able to tolerate. Im nauseated today after eating chicken Caesar salad yesterday for lunch. Any ideas?
  3. My surgeon had me start the 2 protein meal replacements shakes and one meal a day. I can have small snack in between IF I feel hungry. Okay so first week was great I was on track doing fab. Now sometimes I feel like I'm starving. I've got 2 more months before surgery and feel like I'm failing more and more each day. I knew going into this it wasn't going to be easy. Hoping after the surgery I don't have that hunger. Side note.... Only need to lose 10 lbs. I have! I drink drink drink water thinking that would help with hunger and does a little but I'm struggling. Can anyone relate to this? Any suggestions for me?
  4. You are not alone. It is a weight loss thing. Our bodies take time to adjust and the scale won't move no matter what we do. I had the same thing happen around 6 weeks. Up, down, up, down, for 14 days. Last weekend the scale started down again and I have lost 4 lbs in 3 days. Yea! Other posters have experienced the same. Just keep doing what you are doing and the weight will come off.

    Massive Migraine After Hard Wourkout

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a migraine headache after a tough work out? I've noticed the last two weeks have been tough on me. It started after I began taking harder classes like Boot camp, Body pump and Step. I've made sure I had enough Protein before the gym and I do well with my Water but I can always up the amount. Other than that I'm not sure what else I can do other than dropping the amount of classes I take a week but I really don't want to do that. I've always been prone to migraines but this is just getting ridiculous!! Any suggestions? Any advise would help. Thanks
  6. I'm getting ready to have my gastric sleeve this week and I have a friend really wanting to know more. She had stomach stapling (horizontal) in the 90s. Originally she lost lots of weight and later gained more than that back and more. Now she is having serious health conditions. She is wondering if there is a bariatric procedure she can have. She's very interested in the sleeve.

    First Fill

OK, I've been on a liquid diet for 5 Weeks - and I was SOOOOO excited to go to the doctors today and be advanced to 'soft' and then 'regular' foods. I had decided a portion of a Veggie Soft Taco from Taco Time would be my treat for a job well done. I didn't drink anything until the doctors office to maximize my weight loss (I also wore shorts and thongs). OK, I get there, I did well, my mouth is just salivating - I talk to the doctor - he asks me how I'm doing - I'm doing great - no problems - excep HUNGER! I tell him about a little stitch poking out, he says climb up on the table "I'm going to feel you". My physician has an accent - but I got ready, and he took a long time to get something to remove the suture with, and came back in with a cart. He started filling needs and I said, what are you doin? He said "I'm going to feel you". I queried "why do you need a needle to feel me?". I couldn't believe it - he was going to "fill me". Of course, I was excited. Then came the words. MORE liquids for 2-3 days, and then of course - restriction. I just feel like going and slurping up some ranch sauce - I want that taco so bad! Oh well. But hey - my sister decided to do my diet with me - and she lost 18 pounds this month! She's smaller than me - and DID GREAT. I called her and let her know about my loss (just slightly more than her) - He must have known I was going to eat - he just must have known! I thought it was funny - but I'm happy.

    BCBS of GA PPO

Hey there, I have BCBS of GA PPO. My work was submitted on April 7 and I got my approval on April 16. It may have come a day or two earlier but that is when I called my insurance company. I had been calling every other day. I called the number on the back of the card I did not wait on the doctor to call me because once you get approved it takes them up to a week to get the response to your doctor. So my advise to you would be to call on Friday and then again on Tuesday or Wednesday and you should have an answer by then. I had my surgery on 4/28 this was because I was suppose to start my pre-op diet which I never really did. I was just soooo hard to stay on it. By the way where are you getting banded at? Who is your doctor? Let me know how things are coming along. And good luck!!
  9. Confession: I’m terrible with numbers. I see that the post-op puree diet suggests meals which include measurements of both ounces and tablespoons (and cups). Are these interchangeable? For example: 4 Tbsp pureed chicken ½ cup refried Beans 3 oz. yogurt ¼ cup cottage cheese 2 Tbsp yogurt I bought a pack of condiment containers which are marked 2 oz. It took about 3 1/2 tablespoons of tuna, when I measured. I also poured a 2 oz container of Water into my ice cube tray, and it fit perfectly into three cubes. So, if I want to measure a proper serving of Protein, am I safe to assume that whatever fits into the 2 oz cup is considered a serving? Or it depends on which food it is (refried beans vs. yogurt vs. pureed chicken?) Thanks!

    Pre-Surgery Questions

I personally didn't take anything special to the hospital other than my wife. Day 1 surgery Day 2 recovery Day 3 return from Mexico Day 4 Walmart kicked my ass but soup broth in a travel coffee mug was heaven Day 5 intensive Walmart and Safeway shopping Day 6 busy around the house, smoked chicken, bbq and made-up a nice dinner for 12 friends and family members Day 7 was crawling the walls and trying not to start working on projects in my garage Day 8 salmon fishing on the Rogue River Day 9 back to work! Your results may vary. My piece of crap bed went bye bye 2 weeks after surgery. IT was replaced with a sleep number bed. Ahhhhh Best advice? Research. That and don't cheat!

    Half way STALL

Again, I'll mention what I do whenever I stall…..I actually eat MORE! Healthy and calorie conscious of course, such as more Protein (lean meat), Protein shake, salad, etc., but I eat 5 meals instead of 3 and so far this has gotten me out of 3 stalls within just a couple of days. I can't say that it's scientific but it works for me but I actually got the idea from someone that posted it on this site so apparently there must be something to it.
  12. By 2 months nearly everyone has hit a stall. They are really rough to go through but it will pass. Hang in there. You also might want to increase your protein a bit.
  13. I'm 15 months post op, and for me, it's easier in the sense that I cannot eat a whole pizza, or a bucket of chicken. But I can eat all the candy and ice cream I want with no restriction. Even the amount of healthy food I can eat now is fairly high. I typically eat 2000 calories a day and can hit 2500-3000 with no problem....and that's eating alot of lean Protein and healthy fats, fairly low carb and very few "treats." I can gain weight fairly easily just by not logging my food for a few days, eating whatever I want and indulging in too many sweets. I've bounced up as much as 17 pounds in 2 weeks since surgery. Of course, I can get it right back off just going back to my tried and true methods of protein, Water, logging and exercise. There is also a reduced metabolism component to losing weight that will reduce your daily calorie expenditure over time....massive weight loss and prolonged calorie restriction contribute to this. Thus, making it easier to gain weight on less calories than needed before surgery. Lifting weights and building muscle help with this, but only "help", not prevent. However....yes....it's much easier now. The surgery gave me an edge. A window of time to lose weight and rethink my priorities. I got my head on straight. I changed my lifestyle. I changed my relationship with food....basically I broke up with food, although I'm still tempted to go back for a little post break up indulgence every now and then. The honeymoon phase was that window of time. And by the time it was over I knew I never wanted to go back. I have to work much harder now than I did 12 months ago, but I'm motivated to do it. I can't imagine quitting and going back....I won't.

    Pre op and nervous

Honestly, I've had a root canal that was more painful , and took me longer to bounce back ! And it was an easy root canal ! I was home 5 hrs after checking into the hospital for lap band . First 2 days I rested and walked and took my pain meds, 3rd day I did'nt even need them anymore, walked very slowly around the house. Went back to work 1 week after surgery. Easy. Listen to your Dr.s orders, you'll be fine. Good luck! !!

    Pre op and nervous

I am 2.5 weeks out (pre op) and it's starting to get very real, real quick! Success will be ours as long as we follow the food plans, exercise both our bodies and our minds and always remember what it was like for us before we fought so hard for the gift we have been blessed with ..... this tool to begin anew and have a future of healthy living! Good luck to you!
  16. So, I am sure it's been discussed quite a bit about carbs/breads etc after surgery. I understand it's not uncommon to have issues with these kinds of foods post-op. I was sleeved July 29th, and I seem to have problems with breat/wheat type stuff. I don't know about rice (haven't tried it yet), and I am ok with potatoes (but don't eat them much, and only a teeny bit when I do). For me, it feels like I have been punched in the gut. What I am wondering is: 1) does anyone know if this does damage to the body if you eat it (I am still new to this discovery, and sometimes make stupid mistakes)? 2) Also, does anyone know if using gluten free products (like bread, etc) would make a difference? I'm just thinking about trying to limit my "restriction". Trying to find ways to normalize myself. I'd like to be able to occasionally (and I mean every couple of months, not a couple times a week) have a burger without it hurting, or have half a piece of toast with my egg. So, does anyone have any input? Thanks!!
  17. While I was at a support group for bandsters last night in NJ I mentioned a cookbook for weight loss surgery patients. Here is the information for all who want it. title: Eating well after Weight Loss Surgery, Over 140 Delicious Low Fat, High Protein recipes to enjoy the weeks months and years after surgery. Author: Patt Levine. this book is great because it tells you what and how much you should eat from each recipe whether you have the band, bypass or the switch surgerys. It also advised you of what portion is approiate for people who have not had the any weight loss surgery so it make sit easy to cook one meal for the whole family. An added bonus it lets you know which recipes can be pureed for that oh so wonderful mushies stage we all got to go through right after surgery.
  18. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say......more than 3 days. If it hurts, take your pain pills until it doesn't. I'd say average healing time for the pain to subside, is about a week. But then again everybody's different. Well, now that I've provided absolutely no beneficial information.....you can carry on....

    Preparing for a fill

It is disheartening to see all the views and know that ppl couldn't be bothered to respond. Not making excuses for those viewers, but the board has been in a state of flux for weeks working not working, working a little, etc. I for one, have never seen your post. As you mentioned, grazing/snacking is not the best way to use the band, but I am happy for you that you gained so little wt. Going "on maintenance" every few months may not be a bad thing as it can give your body and mind time to adjust and shift. You made the decision on your own to make the band start working again for you and that is wonderful because it is probably a different motivation from when you started. The 2nd best thing I did for my self was to get a personal trainer...I hate exercise and without her gentle encouragement I would not be as healthy as I am. Best wishes and keep posting. Mimi
  20. I'm almost 4 weeks. Changi g puree has been easy. Anyone out there who lactose intolerant. I love cheese but it seems hard for me to eat. Anyone else having this issue?
  21. Just to let you all know that everything went perfectly with my operation on the 2nd. I was admitted at 1.30pm, walked to the operating room around 3.10pm, DH said they came for my bed at 4.30pm, told him the operation went fine. I remember waking up in recovery with a lot of referred pain in my left shoulder. I wasn't taken back to my room until around 6.30pm. I was up and walking within an hour. Overnight stay in hospital (standard procedure here in the UK). Showered the following morning, saw the Anaesthetist and the Surgeon, who both said it was a text-book operation! Was discharged around 11am. I only had Water the first 2 days (all I could face), now on clear Soup etc for the next 3 weeks. Back to the hospital tomorrow just to see how I'm doing and then first fill in 5 weeks! The post op diet is fine. I think I'm used to not eating now. Although it doesn't help that DH is sitting next to me right now eating pizza Hut!!! Sadie
  22. Hi, everyone! My date to be sleeved is the 22nd, and I'm very excited! I've been so busy lately, I feel like I don't quite have my head on my shoulders. There are a few things I'm wondering (for those who already have had theirs)... 1. What did you take to the hospital? Is there anything you wish you had taken? Anything you took but realized was totally unnecessary? 2. What can I reasonably/roughly expect my first 7 days to look like. I know what's coming in terms of liquid/protein intake, but as far as activity goes, what did your first week look like? How did you spend your time? What was your energy level? 3. At home, my bed is very high. After a long day at work, getting into bed is a challenge. Is it likely I will feel similarly, in your best estimation, after coming home from the hospital? How tender is the abdomen? I'd assume quite, but I also would've assumed chopping off half an organ would've required more than a night or two in a hospital. 4. What is the best advice you have for someone before surgery? Thank you all so much for any input! You're the best. Sent From BariatricPal App

My lapband and my thoughts on it to date

I have now been banded for 3months and with pre op diet i have lost a total of about 27kg (60lbs) It has been a hard journey from drinking Optifast for 1 month to having the operation and being in pain for 3 weeks but I sit here and feel fantastic. Im nearly half way to my goal weight and people are really strating to notice the change in my body. I can now start to fit into clothes at "main stream shops" and dont have to find the big girl stores. I cant wait until i can give up my email subscriptions to the fat stores. The lapband is changing my life making me into something that i cant remember ever being. Im more mature to deal with the mind side of the band so Im glad that I have done it now. im still young enough to enjoy my new and improved body LOL! There have been moments of sheer pain where I have eaten something that didnt agree with the band but we are new to eachother and I will eventually figure it out. It was such a hard decision to make at first What will it feel like?, will I miss certain foods? amI doing the right thing? I have suprised myself. I dont miss certain foods like i thought I would and there seems to always be a way around it. Iam 27kg (60lbs) lighter and as long as the scales keep going down and as long as things keep going down the right path Ive made the right choice for me. I can still eat most things (bad and good) but just little tiny plate size full and pre band i use to think "but how" am I not gong to go for the second helping... But the band wont let you it says "you are full" its great.:thumbup:THUMBS UP SO FAR

    Day 2: Pre-op Diet

June 14, 2008 Down 4 pounds in 24 hours is quite amazing to me, however, I realize that the pounds are going to just drop off here at first. Yesterday was my first day on a Pre-Op two week diet. I had 1 Slim Fast Optima, 1 Weight Control Quaker Oatmeal, a serving of grapes, 1/2 an apple, 1 can of vegetarian vegetable soup, one 8 oz glass of skim milk with a packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added) mixed in, and 1 cup of no-fat cottage cheese. Oh and of course plenty of water, which I love. Actually, it wasn't so bad. I kept myself busy with reading, computer work, laundry. That's the key. I need to redirect my life. I'm looking into starting my own web site so that will take some time. This morning I got up at 7:00 and took a walk with the dogs. We walked down to the pond, which is a little ways away, downhill. The dogs loved the water and romped and played. So they got their exercise too. The trudge back up the hill was a killer, but I know it will get easier with time. If I consider my alternatives, (heart attack, stroke, diabetes, death), I rather like this hiking up and down hills. The Slim Fast tasted better this morning: Strawberry Cream, which I thought would be delicious, turns out NOT to be. Plus I had a yogurt, Activia, which I didn't get in yesterday. All the foods I mentioned are all that I will eat for the next two weeks. This was given to me by the dietitian. Why, I bet I lose 20 pounds even before surgery! The dietitian explained to me that the reason for this diet is to help the liver to lose weight. Fatty tissue built up around the liver is not good and hinders absorption of proper nutrients. I know there is more to it than that. I will need to research that again. So, I'm off and running. Well, actually, not running yet. That will come later, I hope.
