  1. Hi everyone. Please help me. Here is what is going on. On Sunday I had an issue with some pizza getting stuck, this is the first time thats happened to me. I ended up sliming that day since then it hurts to eat and almost everything gets stuck. I didn't think my band was to tight I was filled almost two weeks ago, so the stuck happened a week after the fill. I am wondering what I should do here. This is great for my weight loss but I am starting to feel a little weak. Let me know if anyone has a thought. Thanks Jodi

    Need Advice

Thanks for the reply's. In all honesty now that I look back I feel like I should have had a little more taken out, it's just so scary between that point where you can start eating again and a fill. I didn't loose for three weeks straight so I was super ready for a fill. Thanks again for the advice, back to the shakes! :tt1:

What the heck?! My scale is KILLING me!

With less weight to lose, I have gotten into a rotation of no loss for 3 weeks then the next week, big weight loss. Right along with that time of the month. It is frustrating but just keep with it.

Port Tenderness and 1st Fill - Question

You already know you heal slowly, and internal "wounds" take a while to heal. If this is your history, if you don't have redness or a fever, and if you trust your doc, then you're probably good. I had little pain and healed really fast but didn't mash on my port at all. I didn't even know where it was until my first fill appt (at 6 weeks). You know your body best. I'd guess that you are just healing slowly! The port is usually sewn into muscle tissue and it takes that a while to recover.
  6. I am 10 weeks out and have no hunger or desire for food. Does this change ? It is very hard for me to eat more than 3 bites or drink more than a cup of a Protein drink. Does this change with time ?
  7. Ditto ditto ditto......what everyone else said. the reality is you cannot maintain a low calorie count long term. Your body will likely fight by stalling and then gaining more weight than you lost especially before surgery. I would follow the guidelines completely. After surgery there will be several months where your intake is at or below 500 and honestly it is not a good place to be, you dont want that situation long term. I stayed at 900 calories for the first 18 months while i was losing and now i have slowly had to get my calorie count back up to 1300 to 1500 to maintain. I have gained and lost 5lbs several times now trying to figure out my sweet spot. I raised my intake because i wanted to stop losing and allow myself more calories because at 2 years i noticed i was hungrier and could not stay on 1000 to 1300 calories. I think I am very close to the right intake for me but it probably should not have taken this long to figure it out.

    Happy Friday

I made it back to my favorite Zumba class for the first time since November when I injured my leg! I've been working up to this day for a while as my pt did not want me doing any high impact activities. I finally got the go ahead and told myself I would only do 30 min but once I got in there I was having so much fun I didn't want to stop! I am so excited I just had to share. It's perfect timing because I just changed up my diet and exercise routine this week and I'm already seeing the difference.

    approved thru cigna!

I was approved thru cigna Thursday and received my letter syaing I was approved today. I was looking on there and the authorization effect day, is that like the day they plan to take you in for surgery cause its exactly 3 weeks from my pre-op. The sheet they sent me says. AUTHORIZATION DATES 6/28/2013- 6/29/2013 TOTAL DAYS APPROVED:1 and something about a bed type. Ans says if I need further services past my one approved day that they will have to go thru insurance and make sure it'll be covered. Soo what id this authorized day?

Day 5 Post-Op & Drank Slim Fast Today

I wouldn't say you were screwed, but slim fast? Have a quality protein drink if you must. Clear liquids are the hardest phase ever. I was on protein shakes, sf pudding and cream of soups at five days. I am two weeks tomorrow and getting to have some puréed. Woot!

    Upset And Depressed :(

I had some serious depression after surgery. I am only 9 days post-op and it has already gotten better. I suffer depression/anxiety anyway, and I found it came on full force after surgery. My husband is an AMAZING cook & I was sitting here smelling the yummy food he was cooking for him and our daughter....and I was having broth and Soup. I wanted to give up. I am not a back sleeper either. I sleep on my side all the time. The first few days I couldn't do that, which meant not being comfortable. By day 5 or so, I was able to sleep on my side. One thing that really helped life my mood was my 1 week follow up with the dr. Incisions were all looking good, the dietitian said I could move to soft/pureed foods (that alone made tears come to my eyes!) and I had lost 16 lbs. It just really helped to remind me WHY I am doing this.

    Core Workout and Jogging Suggestions/Advice

Pilates, I've gone from a size 22 to 12 with doing nothing but pilates 2 to 4 x a week since July. I love it. I just bought an elliptical, and will add that in over Xmas.

Wait a whole month or call them now?

I've heard that some docs tell their patients it can take up to 2 weeks or so to "feel" a fill. I know "aggressive" fills can aggravate esophageal problems like spasming etc (early bandsters had that WAY more than we do..and aggressive fills are the culprit) So knowing that if it were me (and I'm not a doc and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express even) I would probably give it 3 weeks then try again,

    Counting calories or counting carbs?

Those last ten pounds will come off if you are strict on your carbs. I am pretty close to maintenance so I don't count as close, but the weeks I do super low (20-30) I lose a pound or two. When you first cut the carbs your body drops the weight. Just have to be careful when you start adding them back in. I eat fruit and veggies but try really hard to stay away from the white devils (sugar and flour) once I have a bite I want more more more!
  15. I was honestly miserable the first few weeks, but kept hoping it would be worth it in the end. I am about 5.5 weeks out down 30 pounds and pretty much eating normally. I too am still struggling with what I can eat, if it will sit ok and when my full feeling kicks in what it will feel like or what will be the signal. I dont' know that yet, like last night, we ordered chinese because I got out of work late. I had 2 shrimps and 2 pieces of broccoli and they didn't sit well and here I was in the bathroom suffering. I ate pretty slow, chewed really good but it just didn't work. I have had broccoli a lot and never had a problem before and I have had shrimp too before with no problem. Maybe it's how they cooked it, or maybe my sleeve just didn't want it last night. Who knows? I wouldn't worry too much about what's normal, everyone is different and you kinda just gotta look to yourself and what will be normal for you! You ate a whole pudding cup, but while we think pudding is thick, it's not as dense as say Protein which would make it easier for you to eat the little cup of it. I wouldn't worry too much, especially since you say it didn't make you sick so I wouldn't think your stomach couldn't handle it. I know another guy at work who had the sleeve and when we compared our portion sizes, he was able to eat more than me. Now I wonder if the surgeons make men's sleeves a tad bigger just because men are bigger in general. (I don't mean fat either, I mean taller, stockier, more muscular). Like I said, I am still struggling and I am sure I will be for a while, but it does get easier and your body and mind start to adjust. I know the bigger problem for me is mentally trying to stop myself from over eating, because mentall I know I only had 3 bites but I still want to eat more like I did post op. I have been pretty lucky with not over eating, I really do listen to my stomach, but I am still bummed sometimes if something is really good and I can only eat a few bites. Kinda depressing, but I just keep telling myself I want to be skinny, so I really don't need more than a few bites, especially if it's something I am not supposed to be eating anyway. Hang in there and good luck, you are doing great!

    Pre op diet

This has been exactly my experience. It is an incredible thing and apparently very common. I used liquid during my pre-op despite the fact that it wasn't one of my surgeon's requirements, and it eradicated all the horrible cravings I had at the beginning of my 1000 calorie diet. Post-op was made much easier, especially in the early going liquid stages, and now, three months out, I use liquid to break out of stalls (I just broke out of one in the last few days). Unfortunately, my taste buds haven't completely changed, nor do I expect them to, but I crave healthier food in general when a) I exercise, and I am doing a mini-cleanse with liquid Protein.

    stomach burn

I know what you mean. I get burning while drinking most drinks. It started about a month ago. It's definitely not reflux. In a couple of weeks I will see my doctor. I'll post what he tells me.

    How much fill?

I would bet that when you can begin to exercise, your weight stall will change. It made a big difference in mine. Hope you feel up to doing some simple workouts soon!! Kat

    Did i over do it????

I would stick to whatever plan your doctor has given you. The first few weeks after surgery really difficult, hunger wise. I felt like I was hungry most of the time, but I stuck to my doctors plan and it's really paid off.
  20. I am 6 weeks out, and have recently been feeling nauseated in the mid afternoon. Anyone feeling these symptoms? Is this normal?

    Protein and hunger question

You know, it seems to me that if you eat at 5:30 you should be hungry. Going from 5:30 to noon seems too long to me. I just saw the nutrionist yesterday. She actually wrote me up a schedule. She wants her lap band patients to each every three hours and sip water the hour after each meal up to 1/2 hour before. Seems like you should be eating a meal or snack that starts with protein right about 9am just like your stomach is telling you :-). Britt

    Stalling

  23. Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to the site so ill give you a bit of background. I was banded in Aug 2010 and have lost around 50 pounds since then. Over the last year, my weight has remained constant, despite a series of fills, unfills, etc. Last summer, the dr checked for a slip but the films looked ok. Just bad reflux. Now, after an UGI showing a slip and a repeat UGI yesterday, the slip is confirmed and did not resolve on its own. I am tentatively scheduled for revision surgery next week and, as the title suggests, I'm freaking out about it. I work full time, have 2 young kids and the holidays are just around the corner. My husband is only somewhat helpful Can anyone offer words of wisdom or advice of any kind? Thanks in advance... F
  24. I just had my slip repaired and had plication done on the 15th of November. I'm not sure why, but this surgery was SO much easier to recover from than the original band surgery! The only reason I can think of for that is that my body was already used to a much smaller amount of food. I didn't have any of the weakness and light-headedness that was so extreme with my first surgery. One week to the day after my revision and plication, I was re-arranging my living room furniture by myself and decorating for Christmas!! Hopefully yours will be easy, too.
