  1. Hi I actually started this Bariatric Surgery in the beginning of 2013. I had the lap band put in July 2013. My HW ever was 255. My LW after the band was 225, and because I had problems with them getting me in the Green (Right) Zone. I couldn't lose anymore and as of the beginning of 2016 I was at my highest post Lap Band in 2013 which was 244.4. Considering to have a revision, I called my insurance company who said the maximum number of Bariatric Surgeries was 2, I decided to start the Process. I had my revision done in one day on Nov 14, 2016, the day after my 50th Birthday, at which time I was down to 231. Also, I actually almost backed out the day of surgery, but so glad I didn't. As of today Dec 17, 2016 I'm down to 218.8, AND I'M DETERMINED WITH THE HELP OF GOD TO REACH MY GOAL. A suggestion for anyone considering any of these surgeries for the first time or revision, PLEASE PRAY AND ASK GOD, WHICH I DID EACH TIME, AND HE GAVE ME THE OK EACH TIME. SO HERE I AM TODAY. Ps I'd recommend the Sleeve Over The Band. Yes the band can be reversed and said to be the safest, but if you don't get the Right Fill, you'll probably end up like me losing then gaining some back and headed back in the wrong direction overall.
  2. I'm sorry. I haven't had my revision surgery yet, but I have been warned by my nurse practitioner. I told my family to be prepared and I'm trying to work on some emotional things now before my surgery with a therapist. Really sorry. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

    I'm Scheduled for December 26th!

That's great! I'm a revision so I was really nervous about it being approved. Plus I have a really strict timeline with getting off work. It was either get the surgery next week (scheduling it for Monday means I'm out exactly two weeks) or wait until May to have it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I was revised from band to RNY and couldn't be happier about that choice.
  5. I had Lap-Band Surgery Nov. 2007. I was very successful the first two years. Went from 240 to 160 Lbs. Since then, lack of exercise, resuming bad habits, etc. I've regained almost all of it. I've tried getting back on the band-wagon, but have had very, very difficult fill procedures over the past 3 years. Due to scar tissue, it is very difficult (almost impossible) to get a fill. I have a 10cc band, and am currently filled to 7cc. I'm certain I cannot undergo another fill. Two had to be done through Fluro, needles break, takes approx 3 needles per attempt at fill, etc. My PA is the very best in the area renowned for his abilities to find ports & fill - I really do trust him. I am now considering revision surgery to a full RNY. Thoughts? Suggestions?

    2 Week pre-op diet

When I had my band I had to follow the sugar busters plan. It was a high Protein low carb diet but food was allowed. Now that I'm getting ready for a revision to a DS I'm on one week of two shakes a day, two snack bars a day, and one lean protein with veggies meal per day. Next week is five shakes per day. Total of two week pre-op diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. Thank you both for your replies. I have my revision surgery Dec. 20. I'm getting a little nervous.

  12. Chronic GERD treatment is challenging for patients who have had a sleeve gastrectomy (SG). In some patients, GERD is resolved after SG, but in others symptoms remain Nissen fundoplication surgery is not an option for SG patients due to altered anatomy Revisional surgery from the less invasive SG to Roux-En-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) has been the standard alternative for this challenging patient Patients who chose the SG, may want to avoid a revision to RYGB to control their GERD GERD medications (PPIs) if taken long-term may have a risk of significant side effects, including: osteoporosis, c.diff infections, kidney disease, heart disease and dementia For some patients, GERD symptoms are not completely controlled by PPIs Leaving chronic GERD uncontrolled can lead to Barretts Esophagus There is a clinical study currently enrolling patients on the management of reflux with stretta in patients who have had a sleeve gastrectomy. Email Rebecca Meli rmeli@montefiore.org to be referred to a study site. Please let her know that you heard about it on BariatricPal! For complete study details go to: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02637713. What is Stretta - and why may Stretta be appropriate for GERD after bariatric surgery? Stretta is an FDA cleared device that treats the muscle between the stomach and the esophagus with radiofrequency (RF) energy - it is indicated for the treatment of GERD. Non-surgical treatment delivered through the mouth, that does not alter the anatomy Delivers low levels of RF energy to the muscle between the stomach and esophagus Studies show Stretta results in a thicker muscle, improved barrier and fewer reflux events More than 40 clinical studies show Stretta to be safe, effective and durable Having a Stretta procedure does not complicate future surgeries when necessary A study of Stretta in GERD patients after RYGB showed 71% with resolved symptoms (Mattar et al 2006)
  13. I had my revision on Monday 12-12-16. So I am home recovering now. I had lap band placed in 3-2011. Complications lead me here. I believe it's a rou b her recovery than before. Trying to get in my h20 & meds. Anyone in the same situation? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

  15. I was revised from sleeve to bypass due to acid reflux. The insurance initially denied me because they wanted to me to see dietitian. My Dr did a Peer to Peer with the insurance and told them this wasn't about weightloss it was about ending the acid reflux that was harming my esophagus Hiatal hernia repair failed too. My stomach was pushing upwards ,contributing to the reflux. The insurance approved it then. I had my surgery on Nov.22,2016,My sleeve was in 2011. Doing good. One more week soft foods, then I can have shaved turkey, ham, chicken and other foods.
  16. Hello everyone, I had my band to RNY revision on 12/616. scale has not moved one pound. I've read that weight loss with revisions can be slower, but has anyone experienced no weight loss over 1 week out? I saw my doctor on 12/14. He said it's common with band to RNY revisions and told me to be patient.
  17. Just felt like posting my woe. My surgery for revision was for tomorrow but since I am sick it got postponed until the 30th. I guess I am happy I won't be coughing and have a sore throat during recovery, but this still sucks. Also I will be in full on stomach mode during Christmas on a liquid diet. I would have been on liquids anyways but at least with the motivation of sudden death to curb my appetite.....lol.....but seriously. Also, I did a whole pre op day of labs and ekg classes yada yada.....that were for nothing. Well, I hope at least some of the tests are still good until the 30th....Maybe?? Anyways woe is me. Shed a tear for my Christmas, but I guess I will literally be starting the New year on a good path now. End of my pity party. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
  18. I had the band 6 years ago. I lost initially but then never found a good spot, either to tight or to loose. I'm working towards revising to the sleeve (hopefully late February). Thing is, my band is basically empty and I still have "stuck" episodes. I feel like I always get stuck if I am out to eat. So I want to know if people still get stuck with the sleeve? I know the same rules apply and you have to chew, but I want to know. I am so sick of excusing myself to the bathroom (only my immediate family knows I have the band) Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  19. My doctor suggested a rny. Mine was a revision to a band. He favours rny because it is the only one with truly long term results right now. Also I had gerd with the band so I agreed it was my preference. I'm just over 2 months out and no issues. nothing I haven't been able to eat, but I have not really tried sugar other than a taste of my hubby's dessert. Sleeve was the backup if there was too much scar tissue for the rny.
  20. I had the lap band to sleeve revision surgery. Ever since I had the first surgery I've been experiencing a compression and cramping pain in the middle of my abdominal. If I sit on a chair it will get worse within the hour. The thing is I contacted my lap band doctor and he told me that there was nothing wrong. They did an upper GI and apparently there was nothing wrong with it. I have a feeling it has something to do with my abdominal muscle because I can feel it in my back sometimes also. I dunno what to do now because he didn't find anything and I may go get this checked out. I really don't think it is just my imagination because this doesn't feel normal.

    Pain on left side

I am revision patient as I had lapband in 2009. I had one then, and yes, it is VERY helpful! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  22. I revised to rny...mine worked for 4 years and then misbehaved after pregnancy and then just broke completely at 11 years.
  23. Hubby is doing fine. Luckily there weren't any mishaps. I had my RNY 3 years ago here close to where we live. Hubby had his thru the same Surgeon that I had. But his was a bad one. He had the Lap Band for 13 years and it malfunctioned. He was being revised to the RNY but the band had eroded into his liver so it has been a very long journey for him. He had the failed revision Sept 2013 two months after my RNY. So it was such a blessing that they could even do the Sleeve surgery on him. But we so wish we could have chosen Bariatricpal.
  24. Hi, New to the site. has anyone thought about a revision? I just did a consult with a new surgeon and started my 6 months of requirements.
