HA HA - if I could have lost the weight without surgery for long term results, I certainly would have. Have you failed at diets often only to regain the weight, repeatedly? This is not about lack of will power or the lack of strength to avoid food. Without my sleeve, my health would have gone downhill rapidly. Sure, I was lower BMI than you but every year that BMI ticked up just a little more, putting me at higher risk for serious health issues. Your wife sounds like she adores you and is worried. Have her read the success stories, look at before/after pictures and NSV (non scale victories). Reassure her you are not doing this to change for the sake of physical appearance alone but are choosing to take a small calculated risk to get healthy for the family and yourself. She is a major partner for your success. Find her true concern(s) and address it with her.

I am 4 1/2 months post-op and have a great NSV to share with you all. I was shopping at Wal-mart tonite when I turned the corner looking for something for my granddaughter when I ran into a co-worker from maybe 15 years ago. She looked at me took a double take and said "Diane you look great"!! Well we were standing there having a casual conversation and she kept looking at me, and looking at me and finally she said "I'm sorry that I keep looking at you but you look so great"!! "I just can't get over how good you look and you look 20 years younger"!!! WOW was my reply you don't need to say you are sorry you made my day!! Needless to say this big smile of mine isn't coming off my face for the rest of the day for sure!! And this from a woman who hasn't been more than 10 lbs. overweight for her entire fifty some years. Have a good rest of the day everyone I know I will. LOLS

NSV ~ Just ran an 8K! Race day is 7/3! woo hoo!

Very good NSV! I can totally relate! My husband is very large (400 or so) and we have to choose tables and we can never eat on the patio if it has plastic chairs. While that fact is startling to me, it is taking him a while to wrap his head around it. Congrats! Enjoy this!

Yesterday I stopped at a Farmers Market on bike ride and I was very interested in a booth that was offering info on a fruit and veggie supplement (as I don't feel after protien, I get enough of) and the effects of exercise and oxidative stress on the body. Long story short the lady called me athlete, blush blush,, while yes I am riding like the wind and working out, I never thought of myself as an athlete!

but then I remembered, a regular towel will actually wrap around me now and cover me up:) It's been years since that's happened. I decided to skip the beach towels. -
Any July 2011 Bandsters?
lizzy2150 replied to LisaB68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, the head games!!! I could so totally work my way around this pre-op diet if I let myself by working out "equivalents" and then eating, eating, eating. I'm having to fight that urge. And yeah, I've had the "Hey! I could lose the weight THIS way instead!" thoughts. But clearly, I can't. Or at least, I can't KEEP the weight off. But I made it all the way through my first pre-op diet day without cheating. I'm counting this as my first NSV. (Baby steps. I have to take this in baby steps.) I'm practicing using my creativity--the kind that would usually allow me to rationalize cheating on the pre-op diet--to work on coming up with interesting ways to spice up my Protein shakes. For my last shake of the day, I used vanilla powder and added pineapple chunks, skim milk, imitation coconut flavor, and imitation rum flavor, then blended it up with ice. It tasted like a piña colada. Yum!!! Anyone else reading Bandwagon? I'm really enjoying it; it has a lot of good advice/information. -
Dear sweet RV's! Kelly and MIchelle- I miss you both. I took a little break from here.... but seeing this post made me realize how much I missed you two! But I am rocking my sleeve! I added hamburger last weekend and actually made Eggface's ricotta bake with a layer of ground beef- had to make a double batch cause the family loves it too! Next comes beef and regular food in the next couple of weeks. If you do that I calculated the nutritional values so let me know if you want it. Its delish! I am really happy now- walking an hour a day PLUS doing Water aerobics...still not able to eat more than a 1/4 cup but I am used to it. I still have a Protein shake in the morning- my fave chocolate with decaf- plan to transition to regular coffee soon cause I miss it! Then I also have an unjury chicken Soup late afternoon/early evening so I can really vary what I have at my tiny meals and don't have to feel like it has to be all protein. My nutritionist said she fully expects me to have 2 drinks a day during the weight loss phase. I can proudly say I have gotten at least 60 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water every day since day five. I STILL set my phone alarm for drinking but the warm weather finally coming to our area of NO CA has helped- yesterday I drank 3 liters. I lost 5 pounds last week to bring my current total to 43 pounds (including my 2 week pre-op because I really do consider that my start date!) I am thrilled with that. I feel GOOD- I feel so much more energetic and I feel really IN my body- do you know what I mean? I felt kind of numb before. My husband says I have my sparkle and prana back. It is just what I hoped for. I am so happy I get to meet you Kelly- say you will come to Hayward on the 9th! We MUST hug in person instead of just cyber hug. My biggest NSV is that I took a leap of faith and made plans to go to The Gorge in Washington in September to see Dave Matthews Band- my family has seen them all over the place but I never dared go there as it is camping and hilly terrain and I finally feel that I can do it! I am thrilled that my sleeve sistah's the red velvet girls are doing so beautifully! Red Velvets forever! ps in whisper tone- my birthday is Saturday and I admit I plan a few bad girl things- my husband is buying all the new Ben and Jerry flavors and I will have a teaspoon of each spread through the day so I can try them, plus a little bit of movie popcorn since my son works at the theater. I figure I can't do too much damage! ;-P

I don't think that's silly. Gotta appreciate the little NSV's too! I was happy when I could put down the armrest on my chair!

That was a major thing for me too. . . and it is a very important NSV! Congratulations and keep up the excellent work! For me now it's that the booth is too big, the seat is too far from the table . . ugh can I never be happy!

Fun NSV: I usually walk against the crowd at the State Capitol for my walks... anyhow, I just noticed that no one gives me "extra" room when approaching me anymore - they just move over a tiny bit if they are coming directly at me. Nice!! Believe me they used to really move over a lot... LMAO!!
-
That's not silly at all! I love this nsv!
-
So this is silly but it's always bugged me...... My thighs/hips don't spill over the edges of the seat in the car anymore!!! I can see seat cushion on BOTH sides!!! YIPPEE!!!!! Heehee

So I wore some stretchy capri length leggings out of the house to go to our little local grocery store last night. I had on a shirt that used to be tight on me but is now tunic length or looks like a maternity shirt now (LOL) so my rear end had full coverage...but I wore LEGGINGS OUT OF THE HOUSE! -
