    July 2006 Band Crew

Kari, Great idea about the shakes, I was drinking those, but lately they seem clumpy and gross to me. I did eat cheese this morning, and it was pretty nice. By the time I ate it and drove my son to school, he missed the bus, and then made it to my coffee shop, it had been long enough to drink the coffee. then, I really didn't drink much of it and ended up throwing it out. Mary, congrats on the jeans. I would have (and did when I went to a concert this summer) laid on the bed and zipped them up just to see if they would. Age makes this less comfortable than it used to be, seems like I always wore my jeans tight enough that the only way to get them on was lying down and using a hanger to zip them. My NSV today was a coworker who stopped me in the hall and said I was "shrinking" (I was wearing heels so I don't think she was talking about my height). On a slightly sad note, today I wore one of my favorite pair of slacks (they have many of the qualities that Clinton and Stacy talk about on What Not to Wear) and I was swimming in them! Well, I still wore them cause they are about all I have, but if I didn't have my jacket on, they looked ridiculous. I guess I have to take them in and have them altered. I haven't lost enough in inches to fit into most of my smaller stuff, but my bigger clothes look dumb. Oh, the trials. Listen to me complain, what an idiot, I could be getting to big for those clothes like I was before! Ruthie, great fitting into your little people car. DH always says everything is made for midgets (he is 6'5" ) while I am busy trying to reach the pedals since I'm only 5'2". Have a great night. We've almost made it through the first week of school here!
  2. Audrey you look awesome, I am just seeing these pictures. Are you under 200 yet? You look great but do you think you need any surgery? If so what are you going to have done? My recent NSV is to realize my rolls aren't as deep as they use to be. LOL They are actually rolling away. Ah ha ah ha ha ha I'm silly.
  3. I wasn't "quite" 400. I was 390... will that do? It all seems so long ago - I look at pictures of myself and 'know' it's me... bit I can't get my head around it.. (sounds daft...). NSV's? running for a bus without my boobs giving me Black eyes ! hehe RUNNING ! Showering without having to lean against the wall to reach my bum. being able to wipe myself in the loo (sorry) Getting my shoes on without getting into a sweat & breathless that I'd need a minute to recover. Crossing my legs !!! (I like that one!) Sex - being more adventurous... Husband - He married me when I was at my heaviest weight - he said he loved me no matter what my size... Though I think he prefers me this way... He can get his arms all the way round me now and thinks I'm more 'bendy'! lol Work - I've always had a desk job - so thats not changed much. I get more 'attention' from the fella's (not sexual or anything)... but more like being included in the 'in' jokes. I even managed to get myself promoted ! Family - some of my family we're a little 'resistant' with me getting the band - funny what happens when they saw me succeed... it's no longer the 'easy way out' - now after 2 years, my sister and brothers wife are going for it... they bloomin want it! Clothes - from size 30/32 - now in size 16's YEAY ! having a choice !!! Walking - being able to walk for more than 500 yards without taking a break. Babies - being knocked back for fertility treatment coz I was 'Too Heavy - too high a risk' - now i've been accepted no questions asked ! There are so many - it's a longer road for the heavier weights - but it definately works !!! Love this thread ! Aud x
  4. Katie...Great list of NSVs! I know one thing, life with the band is pretty darn great! I not only feel like I've lost weight, I feel like I've lost years off my age! I sometimes have to remind myself that I'm a grandmother and I better act my age. I missed out on so many years being fat and miserable and now I want to make up for lost time! Congratulations Katie!

    working out=hungrier

OR but have to hold myself accountable. I have been feeling discouraged since I haven't been losing the lbs like I thought I would. I have had some nsvs though so that is motivating me a little. But the past week has been a bad week food wise. ( I haven't hit my green zone yet so I don't have a ton of restrictions) start my support classes on Thursday. So hopefully that will help. I have definitely noticed that I have been a lot hungrier since I have been running regularly. I know Protein and Water will help curb hunger. But it isn't enough to stop me, the hunger is still there. Does anyone know how long this will last? Or have any other advice how to curb this hunger?

By request - BigViffer Workout Routine

Hey guys - I wanted to post an update to this thread. Another NSV for me. The deadlift is a damned hard exercise for several reasons. First off, you are lifting dead weight off the floor. Secondly form is so incredibly important in order to avoid injury. That is paramount to me since my entire weight issue started with an injury. Well I am happy to say that today I set a personal best deadlift record; 185lbs! Back feels good as do my knees. Sure my legs are tired, but there is no pain. I am roughly 25lbs from my deadlift goal of my body weight. I should totally be able to accomplish that by my year two anniversary. Hopefully my pull-up will fall into line soon too!

    July 2022 peeps!

Hey, those NSVs and your losses are awesome! How do you know you don't need your CPAP, do you have a sleep tracker that tracks your breathing, heart rate and blood oxygen level? I had to sleep without my CPAP for a week and I thought I was fine, too. Then, I looked at my Sleep Tracker (my bed is fancy and records breathing/heart rate, but not oxygen level) and my sleep score was way down all week and I snored more, breathed in a sporadic way and my heart rate went up (that's what makes us gasp in our sleep to get in more air, usually doesn't wake you up). I highly recommend another sleep study before you just stop using your CPAP, you could be hurting your heart.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hey guys! I hit a week from surgery Thursday. I think I may be the prodigal child and I feel bad about raving about how little pain I was in, how little the gas was a problem etc. But at the same time I want to let others know, it's not always negative! Also, consider about 3 years ago I had my gallbladder removed, so I am fresh to a lot of things these surgeries deal with. Incisions, pre op diet, gas, pneumonia potental, etc. Sorry in advance for the novel. My surgery was supposed to be at 1030am on the 14th, but I think I went under something after lunch. I think they were running a little bit behind lol. I remember coming to and going out many times that first day. I was able to drink from the small medicine cups of water they gave me. I expected there to be pain ... but there wasn't. Granted I had dilaudid at first and then just tramadol. I was up peeing (they keep track of that for kidney function) and walking around the nurses station. Later in the evening/night. I literally just wanted to sleep. But honestly, as annoying as they were waking me up every hour for vitals and asking if I felt up for walking, I really did feel better at least getting one trip around the station every so often. I was discharged around lunchtime the next day. I never touched the prescribed oxycodone nor tylenol for that matter. I never took anything other than my normal pills and the Prilosec except one zofran because the day after I got home (that saturday) the nausea took hold something fierce for some reason. After that though, I never had a problem. I didn't have to use the little spirometer they give you. I just took deep breaths and coughed. Very little phlegm came up overall, but I have no trace of pneumonia. Saturday I also decided to weigh, as I have read others did. I was also up about 3 lbs from day of surgery weight. They put like 3 or 4 bags of fluids in me while I was there, so I don't doubt that was 100% the reason. I decided then that I would just wait for the next appointment before weighing. Sunday, my first day on full liquids, was the worst. You would think that graduating to the next stage would be the last day that would be bad, but when you realize that doesn't really open you up to much more than tomato soup and protein shakes (which you are already sick of by now) - when I tell you mentally I was so done. I regretted the surgery, I regretted becoming fat enough to need it in the first place, I hated everyone and everything. I was hungry ALL THE TIME. I was not one of the lucky ones that lost the hunger hormone and have to "force" themselves to eat and drink. Monday rolled around. I just started taking things day by day. Hour by hour and slowly time started to pass. Thursday was my week post-op appointment. Incisions are healing well, bruising is starting to clear up. Also, the uvula (the dangly thingie in the back of your throat) was irritated and elongated from the breathing tube while I was under. IT WAS DRIVING ME F**KING BONKERS. I can't stand that thing hitting the back of my tongue and making me feel like I have something caught in my throat 24/7. It is just now starting to get back to normal. When I started this journey, beginning with the nutritionist visits in December I was 371.2. On the day of surgery, I was 345. Weight one week post-op was 336.8. Overall, since December down 34.4 and almost 10 since surgery. Granted I could be down less as it is now Saturday, but I refuse to weigh for a while. Maybe not until my 1mth appointment. Just stay the course and see what happens! I'm already seeing little NSVs. Tiny ones, but none-the-less they are there. They are just little reminders that this is a process and I can and will be successful. It's been a while since I've been around so I wanted to touch base. Also to provide info for those still waiting for surgery and those that are fresh out. It DOES get better! Even as soon as a week after. Best wishes to everyone no matter where they are in their journey!

6 weeks out, tired, grumpy, & I miss food

I am so sorry, but your venting made me laugh..So many things that we all experienced and the buyers remorse shining through your complaints. Hold on kid it is going to get better. I promise you. Life is going to start to hand you some pretty cool experiences called NSV. And then you will say I am so glad I did this. Mean while it takes time to get used to all the changes and rules..of our new life style. But it will become very manageable for you as well as routine very soon. Take the time to really enjoy exploring new foods that would be interesting to try. And then for sure you will have conversations about food. The whole reason you had this surgery in the first place was because of your addiction to the chemical reaction in your brain and lack of self control while enjoying the chemical reaction in your brain. But if you learn to make good, nutritional choices and make them tasty. There will be lots to talk about and you will be helping your body as well. I am never hungry either and have not been hungry all along...If i did not have Reactive Hypoglycemia I probably would not eat as often as I do and then I would be smaller then I am now...... Trust me girl it will all come together and you are going to be so proud of yourself!!!!!!!

    A Christmas Nsv

My best Christmas present and NSV was getting up yesterday for Church, and putting on a regular size 14 pair of jeans ( a little big) and a cute VS top. Then I put my super cute Victoria Secret hoodie with angle wings on the back, borrowed my daughters super cute scarf. And off to Mass I went, it felt so good..... I am truley blessed to have made it this far. Thank you God and band for helping me get here.

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

How private is this facebook group? There are certain people I really do NOT want to know about this surgery. I really need some support though. Surgery 03/31/2011 since surgery lost 25 pds and really frustrated. Besides what the heck does NSV stand for???

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

So I had my first actual NSV (except for the usual donating of clothing) since surgery. It seems a little crazy to me, but I was so happy. I got out of the shower and wrapped the towel around me (like always) and it actually fit around me and overlapped a bit and covered me like it was supposed to. Now mind you it's still one of the big ones, but it fit! it fit! it's been 15 years since that happened I was pretty happy. So glad everyone is doing well. We will all be successful. We have to be

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

Thanks guys!! I had a NSV yesterday too. Went to see a movie and fit in the seat It was still snug, but I was in the same theater about 6-8 weeks ago and it was a BAD fit then...had to really wriggle to get sitauted. Yesterday I could sit down from a normal standing position and not have to squish my butt into it. It felt so good!!!

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

I'm still kicking too. Looks like we are all doing very well. I'm pretty happy with the process/progress so far. NSV this week, I'm comfortably in size 24 bottoms and 26/28 tops. Down from 28 bottoms and 30/32 tops. I will be honest in saying that these sizes were a little loose, but that's how I preferred my clothes and I definately didn't fit into the 26's! I'm pretty damned excited by this actually As for the flying thing, I have had to wear an extention for years (I travel a lot for work) and look forward to the day when I don't have to ask for one and to be able to sit comfortably in the seat and not have someone upset that they have to sit next to me (which as horrible as it sounds, I can understand. Those damned seats are pretty uncomfortable to begin with, but toss in a large woman beside you who is spiling over into your space and it's just damned unacceptable ) and being able to actually sit there and use the drop down table and possibly even my laptop etc. So anyway! I hope we all continue to do great and keep your chins up guys. We will all have set backs from time to time, but just remember to just take a step back and try again! This is a life long journey that includes a lot of learning and trial and error! No matter how much research or teaching/classes we went through, nothing can or could fully prepare us for what we have embarked on!
  19. CW That is fabulous news! It reminded me of the line from The Princess Bride when Miracle Max said that Wesley was only "mostly dead" -- so I rejoiced to hear that you were not even close to mostly dead! Yay You! You know you lost weight when

    What an amazing NSV!
  21. exactly...my plan is to measure my success by NSV's and not numbers! I just dont want to have the surgery- and because I'm slow losing, be afraid that i wont be successful. all i really want is to be under 200! thats 50 pounds! surely i can do that. LOL! you are all inspirations to us pre surgery. thank you for still being here and helping us. i have 10 days left! my doc is removing my band laporoscpy, and then doing my RNY with a robot for the first time. (of course- if he can) i want to say the robot is the reason for my nerves...but i would be scared having any surgery. i think im phobic! i had a c-section without drugs in 99. they just cut me open and took him out.
  22. Awww, great NSVs!! Clean checkups and new clothes! I was getting ready to go out last week and my shorts literally fell down to my knees LOL 16 W's. I was also thrilled, and got myself a couple of 16s. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. That is great NSV, congratulations! Sent from my iPad using VST
