    Losing Hope

Wow, good for you! You certainly do recovery quickly!! I had surgery August 27th and still trying to get adjusted to what's giving me gas/gas pain in my chest, waiting for my incision to heal and be able to walk a block without feeling weak. I ride a bus downtown to work, walk 3 blocks to my job and work 10 hour days. I would not make it going back before my follow-up appointment with surgeon. I definitely need to be on at least soft foods for a little more energy to get through the day for the ride home : (

Thank you, Deedee12, for your kind words. Fantasy is GOOD! Dream BIG! I really think you should start planning a wonderful 15th anniversary party! It can be intimate or grand. We are doing grand this time around (so excited to reunite + reconnect with old and new friends) as we did not have the time nor budget to host a more formal event in 1995. I'm planning a porch ceremony overlooking valley, wine + hors d'oeuvres piano reception - my roommate in grad school played at original and again now - Her sons will duo perform at the vow renewal. Then, a sit down dinner and dance (original flower girls all grown up now will give toast + blessing) with a live 10 piece-band. Love to dance! I was definitely a disco girl in the 80's! For our first dance from To Sir With Love by Lulu - An amazing 1967 movie starring heart throb, Sidney Poitier (watch it if you can!) - the band leader will invite all couples married 10 years or more to join us. How nice to be lighter on my feet. Sorry for rambling - just so excited! ;]
  4. I'm scheduled for Surgery twin! I'm also scheduled for 10/28. As the days tick by, I get nervous and excited. I'm just trying to focus on diet and exercise to go in as best as I can. It's all-consuming, right? I feel like, if I have down time, it's all I think about. I know I'm annoying people by talking about it. I try and catch myself. Those that know at work it's what they ask about (I have down time right now and I'm on here....). Sometimes I wish today was surgery day and sometimes (when I'm scared and nervous), I keep hoping time will slow down.

To tell or not to tell

A couple years prior to wls I had lost 90 pounds on my own with tracking my food and exercise and I did it in 9 months. I did put it back on the following year after falling into a depression over the death of a parent, the 90 plus 10. The month before surgery I started talking to family/friends about getting serious about weight loss again. If they asked how I was doing it I would say the same way I did last time, tracking my food and exercise, which is true I am doing those things. While I was recovering from surgery I told family/friends that I had the flu and it was kicking my butt. This became the reason I couldn't be social for a while or wasn't up to doing much... still getting over that flu, man it was a tough one. It worked for me.
  6. 2weeks ago, I went to see my Naturopath, has successfully helped me with an number of health issues through diet ( ie. yeast infections, urinary tract infections, anxiety). I had not seen her since before my Gastric Bypass procedure in May 2019. When I weighed in with her, I was down to 253 from 302. My presenting concern was I feeling very muddled and disorganized in my daily living. After tearfully describing my struggles, my Naturopath immediately told me that she wants me to start the Keto diet. She encouraged to be mindful of the guidelines I was given at the Bariatric clinic and incorporate them into the diet plan that I was encouraged to follow. So far so good, I have not been exactly perfect, however the majority of the food I eat is Keto friendly. I feel really good about this lifestyle and follow up with my Naturopath tomorrow. 8. I'm 10 months post-op and have been in maintenance now since 7 months post op (you can see my weight loss details/progress in my signature, or for even more detail, in the "About Me" section of my profile.). Being in maintenance, I'm about 1500-2000 calories most days now, but there will be days here and there when I get in 400-1000 cals (these are the days when I just got busy or was having a don't-feel-like-eating-day). I eat protein forward and try to watch my net carb intake for the most part. I am not afraid of fats. I run about 4-6km on average almost every morning, 15 mins of arm strength training almost every day, and 15 mins of core/butt strength training sporadically (I hate core/butt training!). Since summer started I may go to the gym maybe once every two weeks or so to do hot yoga or zumba, but will likely up the frequency again to 2x a week when the weather gets cooler. With that said though, when I was in weight-loss mode, I averaged maybe 500-600 cals a day, protein-forward and mostly stayed under 20 net carbs daily. I was pretty strict on this plan the entire time. I also did not not run as much then as I do now.
  9. At 4 weeks out I was eating probably 200 calories a day. I am 10+ months and hitting 700 calories now.
  10. 5'2", ♀️10m PO, maintaining 116.8 lbs today (so another weird example of how I eat 2000+ cals a day for an entire weekend then go down a pound, but then have a 400-cal day - see below - and the next day am up that pound *shrugs*) The Kid is back at school so had the whole day to myself. Meant to veg around the house all day and binge watch "Jane the Virgin" on Netflix, but ended up running around doing errands and didn't eat much...oopsies. Menu for Yesterday, Mon Sep 02: Totals --- 402 cals --- 45g protein --- 22g NET carbs --- 56g fat 10:00am (8 cals) peppermint tea chicken broth 1:00pm (180 cals) 130g sweet potato curry + 60g shiratake noodles (yesterday's leftovers) 71g pan fried chicken in butter 7½ g Parmesan cheese 6:30pm (131 cals) salad greens + cucumber + vinaigrette 88g pan fried chicken in butter 12oz americano 9:30pm (83 cals) Spicy ramen flavour packet + water 64g pan fried chicken in butter Yesterday's Exercise: 6km run 15 min strength training (arms)

  15. Hi Johnny, we're here to help. I was sleeved in Feb. 2018, then revised to RnY in Oct. 2018 due to reflux. I think it was worth it. 1. How long did you take off work? I'm told 2 weeks. I usually work from home at a computer. Was there much pain? I took 2 weeks to return to a desk job. Pretty much the same as the sleeve and similar pain level. 2. How long before you could work out again? I had other complications that skewed this one, so I won't comment. 3. Did you lose more weight than you wanted? No, I still had about 20# to goal and it took me 4-5 months to get there. 4. Did it resolve your acid reflux (if that was the reason)? Absolutely and immediately. 5. Were you able to enjoy good food at special meals (holidays, etc.) with RNY? I'm terrified of losing ability to have a nice meal with family. What does a normal meal capacity look like at a year out? I have less restriction with my RnY than I did with the sleeve. I am eating 1-2 cup meals now (10 months out). 6. Are bowel movements normal at some point? No problems, in general. 7. Could you drink alcohol again? I'm fine going months without but at some point would like to enjoy a glass of champagne again. I can't right now as carbonation is brutal. I enjoy the occasional 1-2 glasses of wine. I can't handle carbonation, though.

Yes I’m finding that I’m either holding onto things still that are waaaay too big, or I’m completely avoiding items that are flowy bc I’ve associated “flowy” with “hiding fat” for too long. I bet eventually I get more comfy with different styles Today I went to clothes mentor and bought several things. I’m running late for Pilates, but here is a quick snapshot of some new jeans and a top I got. The jeans are a size 10 from old navy and I’m floored they fit. I think they’re a bit snug, but that could be DM. The top is from Talbots and it’s a size medium. Also a bit snug, but I’m currently buying for fall and a bit snug is fine since I plan on losing at least 15 more pounds
  18. I'm looking for everyone scheduled to have their wls next month. Getting a little nervous? Well I am! I'm scheduled for 10/1 with Dr. Illan at Bariatric Pal Hospital in Mexico. The time is really flying by now. I'm looking for other October surgery folks out there. I know you're there.....where are you?

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

Side questions: I don’t totally hate exercise. For example my I LOVE Pilates classes, but HATE going to the gym. I have a nice treadmill at home that I bought over 3 years ago when I was struggling yet again to find an exercise groove and I walk/run/incline train on it 1-2 times weekly. I need to get in a better pattern of being consistent with that TM 2. I’ve always been a big water drinker, but I have noticed an improvement in my skin in spite of the fact that my jowels are more pronounced and is obvious I’m going to need some kind of facelift to avoid looking 5-10 years older than I am. I was the lady that would get acne breakouts in her late 40’s and I’ve only had 1-2 breakouts since surgery so there’s a vast improvement there. Of course it could also be bc I’m truly post-menopausal now so who knows if it’s the water or not. 🤷‍♀️
  20. I have had the lap band for 10 years now and it wasn't until the last 3 years I started having issues with it. Now I am back over 240 and my doctor had to remove fluid because of my heartburn/gerd. I ended up with ulcers on my esophagus that are now cleared up. I have gotten almost all my clearances done in about 2 months and wondering if anyone has had UHC approve that quickly? My doctor is submitting to insurance this week. Everything I am reading says 6 months but its also all for initially getting one of the surgeries done not the revision.

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

Hi I'm home! So, here's my first post of the month: 1. Posting your personal goal - Onederland! 2. Add your surgery type, status (pre/post op, losing/maintenance) - Gastric Sleeve 3. Weight and BMI (not necessary but encouraged) - 206 this morning 4. Choose between the easy or advance squat routine - advance 5. Tell us your favorite flaw - I can't think....hmmm, throwing my dirty clothes on the laundry room floor? I keep the room gated because the cats' food and litter box are in there so I have to step over the gate (they have a hatch) when I need to go in the room. So, I will toss my laundry in there until I go in when I do pick them up and put them in the washer until I'm ready to start a load. Day 1: Well, I did happen to do 10 squats that day. I also went hiking and I did stop and sit on a rock and meditate and breathe. Day 2: Travel all day...but spent time with family that I hadn't seen in 8 years over the weekend so I'll count that as my friends catching up. Day 3: Just did 50 squats (day 2 & 3 combined). I just texted a couple of my friends to see if we want to meet up this weekend. I think I'm caught up. I have to say, somewhere between last Thursday and this morning I dropped 3 more lbs which put me in a much better place to make my onederland goal this month so I'm very excited about that! Oh, whoops...B-sides. Love exercise - it makes me feel good. I enjoy feeling my muscles work and stretch. I don't know about the complexion but some folks have said I look a lot younger.

    Hungry after gastric sleeve?

I had my surgery on 2/27/19. After the surgery I was hungry but when I smell food I got nausea. Now I am having a hard time finding food to eat. I am so tired of the chicken and I don't eat beef or pork. I use to get hungry and even heard the noise in the stomach but trust it goes away. I am not fully on solids as my stomach won't take it but the weight is coming off and I am loving the new me and so will you.

    Shy of announcing this, but...

My goal is 150 and I don't recall weighing 150 at any time in my life. I am 67. I wore a size 20 when I got married the 1st time at age 19. It will be mind blowing to get there. You are getting close!
