    My taste buds are weird now LOL

    So I've some time to taste more stuff. Pineapple is super sweet and not tart anymore lol I just don't care for bacon, but I like sausage. I don't like ham, but I like porkchops. I don't care for avocado but love guacamole. Used to love steak, now it's just ok. Still like chicken (dark meat, now white). Can't do lettuce at all. Used to love cottage cheese and sour cream but they taste sour and almost rotten now. Have almost no tolerance at all for salt and sugar. I figured this kind of stuff happened with bypass, not the sleeve. It's really weird. And then there's my sense of smell. What is going on?? I smell things like stuff burning, poop, rotten stuff, etc. And of course, there's nothing there. And my sense of smell is so much more sensitive to the stuff that's actually there. My husband was changing the cat litter and the smell of the urine had me literally gagging (and it gets scooped twice a week and changed every Sunday. So it's not like it was horrible and nasty). The smell of my daughter's paints had me gagging. And the smell of house cleaning supplies just does me in. UGH. I hope this passes soon. It's horrible!!!!!!
  2. I take a different approach to meal prep than what you describe. Instead of cooking one meal and eating the same thing all week, I've built up a collection of meals frozen in individual portions. Soup, chili, and stew freeze really well. I also make various meals that consist of meat, vegetables, beans, and sauce (there are lots of Instant Pot recipes like this) to freeze in individual portions. Most recipes yield 10+ portions, so I can cook three times and have a month's worth of dinners. I highly recommend Souper Cubes, which are like giant ice cube trays. They're available in several sizes, and the 4-ounce size is perfect for a single serving. The portions stack easily, so you can store many portions in a small space (much more compact than Tupperware containers). For a quick and easy meal, I dump some riced cauliflower in a bowl, throw in a souper cube, and heat in the microwave. Sometimes I also have a side salad or a side of veggies. I have enough different meals that I can eat a different one every night of the week. Here are a few of my favorites: White chicken chili Egg Roll in a Bowl Zuppa Toscana Chicken Divan Pork Chile Verde Brunswick Stew Creamy Chicken and Spinach Soup (I omit the tortellini and use more chicken)

    June 2022 surgery buddies

    I am 13 days post op. 10 lbs since day of surgery. Been stalled last 4 days. I did lose 7 lbs the week before surgery. Tomorrow I start soft foods. I did go ahead and try some refried been mash tonight and I can only eat maybe 1 oz without vomiting back up into my mouth. Iv been struggling with getting in liquids and liquid proteins due to restriction. Can’t imagine eating enough to get protein in. This is way more difficult to manage nutritionally then I ever expected

    Two weeks post op-today. Lost 39lbs since I started pre-op liquid. 14 pounds since surgery. TBH, my post-surgery weight loss is a little slower than expected, but that's probably because of the 25 I lost on the pre-op. I also gained 5 overnight in surgery (liquids) so had to lose that. So while I'm a tad disappointment, I'm not unhappy. I think it was unreasonable hopes given the circumstance. Overall, 39 lbs in a month. I am very, very happy.

    I'll be four weeks post-op tomorrow. My highest weight was 238, surgery weight was 214 and today I weighed 197. I was so excited to get under 200 - it's been a long time! I'm very pleased with my weight loss so far. I stalled for more than a week but just kept doing what I should be doing and the numbers started to drop again. I don't know exactly what I expected but I'm happy with my progress.

    4 weeks post op tomorrow. I’ve lost 31 lbs. this has so far exceeded my wildest expectations that I am blown away. ETA: highest weight ever was when insurance paperwork was submitted at 222. Got down to 209 on 6/8 day of surgery. Came home at 222 from IV fluids. (Can’t make this stuff up) I’m at 191 now and FitTrack says I’m averaging 7/10 of a lb a day. HTH

    July 2022 peeps!

    OMG I had covid in May, and they had to make sure my positive test was at least 6 weeks prior to surgery. I thought mine would have to be rescheduled but we had about 2 weeks leeway to spare. Then they moved it back another week anyway for something unrelated >.> The fear while she was doing the math was rough, even if only for a couple minutes.

    True. Good point and def no complaints lol. My office told me consistent dieting prior to the surgery making small changes impacts the liver just as much as a liquid diet. They only require you to avoid fatty foods and eat as lean and green as possible 2 weeks prior. Just liquid one day before. My liver was perfect doing that! I was super nervous that it wouldn’t be seeing everyone else on liquid or extreme calorie restriction lol

  11. I had Bypass. I was hitting my water goal by my 2 week follow up. Protein took about 3 weeks and then fell back off at pureed foods so I had to readjust my eating schedule. Now I pretty much have it down pat, but I still can't hit my protein goal without 1 shake a day. I have tried a few times. My work day looks like this, weekends are the same but the time just shifts a few hours later: Wake up 530 Breakfast 6-630am: Shake @ 30g protein Drink from 7/730-11/1130am: At least 20 oz. Lunch 12pm: Depends on what I pack but anywhere from 12-20g protein Drink from 1-3pm: At least 20 oz. Snack (as needed for the protein boost from a lighter lunch) 330pm: Usually 5-10g protein like a string cheese Drink from 4-6ish pm: At least 20 oz Dinner around 6/630pm: Depends on what I pack but anywhere from 15-20g protein Drink from 7pm till bedtime: I go to bed early on week nights so not much at this time. I average 70g protein and 70oz water daily. At first I was annoyed because I was just constantly worrying about it and non stop drinking and eating. But now at a little over 3 months post op I can drink a 16 oz bottle of water in 30 minutes. So if I get behind I can (kinda) chug it to catch up or if I am on track I can just take a break and not worry about it. You really do just find your new routine, it just might take some time. I am VERY motivated to make the best of this so I pushed myself very hard int he beginning to start hitting those goals.

    Pretty much like others said, if you have a calorie deficit you WILL loose weight. You may have stalls through the process but they will end and you will continue to loose weight. The larger you start the faster you loose because your calorie deficit is greater. As you get closer to a "normal size" your weight loss will slow because your calorie deficit is smaller. My dietician actually calculated my calorie deficit at my second visit when I was back onto solid foods and it was 18,590 calories a week! It is crazy how much I was eating to maintain the weight I was at! Do not panic, just follow your plan and it works. We are all proof it works!
  13. I have been meal prepping off and on for years. The possibilities are endless, really. It is actually harder for me now because sometimes reheated meat gets to me. Especially pork. I can eat it with no problem fresh but reheated, I can usually only eat like 2 bites. I even make sure to add some of the sauce/juice in the container to keep it moist. I don't really know what it is. I also get tired of the same thing quicker now, so when I do prep I usually do 2/3 days at a time and then switch it up. Doing it this way, it is usually whatever I make for dinner mid week I just make enough extra for a few lunches. You can have an extravagant meal, all the way down to (what I call) an adult lunchable. They are actually one of my favorite meal preps because (again) the possibilities are endless. Meat, cheese, veggie, sometimes I even have a few crackers. (YES, crackers. They are allowed in my plan) You can google tons of ideas. Simple, or involved. Slow cooker: Chicken with salsa, pair with a tortilla Chicken with fajita seasoning, add peppers and onions for the last hour or so. Eat just like that or with rice or a tortilla. Steak/beef with broccoli. Quick skillet: Ground turkey with taco seasoning, paired with refried beans Chicken with veggies and melted cheese Turkey burgers, I love mine without a bun topped with feta cheese and hots. No cooking: Adult lunchables, as mentioned above Tuna or chicken salad with veggies or crackers (my go to is cucumbers) Lunch meat and cheese roll ups or wraps Fresh salad with just about any meat you prefer These are just a few ideas that popped in my head. Good luck!

It’s not really meal prepping in my mind since I can only eat the meat, but I made a little less than a pound of lean ground beef with a taco seasoning packet and I’ve been eating that for the week with fat free shredded cheese. If you are farther out you could do a wrap, taco, veggies, sour cream, etc. Also you might like the muffin tin recipes on Pinterest. You can search bariatric muffin tin recipes and a lot will come up. A lot are made with wonton wrappers and the “guts” can be Italian, Mexican, breakfast, etc. I like taco cups, meatloaf cups, and lasagna cups best
  15. Looking for some advice/suggestions, I'm getting a little bored with the same old stuff I've been eating and want to change it up a bit. I see people talking all the time about meal prepping so they only have to prepare one big meal on Sunday and then they are able to save the rest to eat throughout the week. I'd love to do that so I'm not tempted to eat out or do something unhealthy when I don't have time or energy to make a meal. But I've never done anything like that before ever, I always prepare the meal right before I eat it. Sometimes I'll have leftovers that I'll heat up the next day, but I really would like to be able to prep for the week in advance. I have a slow cooker and an electric pressure cooker so I could use either of those to prepare. Does anyone have any recipes for your meal prep for the week? And please let me know what you do with your portions, ie: freeze/refrigerate, I'm starting from scratch here. Thanks!

    I applaud you! I am almost 1 month post op and I’ve ‘sucked it up’ a lot! I think it has a fair amount to do with hormones. And the other huge changes our bodies are undergoing. I’m finding that it’s a process. One step forward some days, two steps back on others. The spikes seem to be less spikey and severe as time goes in. I am beginning to understand why some people say it’s a full 6-8 weeks till they feel like themselves again. I have days when I feel like I have unlimited energy, and then I have days when I don’t want to move. Good luck and continued success!

    Stand still for 3-4 months now

    Also forgot to add that I am trying to stop snacking. I have a cheese stick here, protein chips, yogurt, fruit, cottage cheese. My guilt has been Teddy Grahams and Ritz baked and thin chips. I know this is bad and is probably the cause of my long long stall. I do see inches coming off however.
  19. Hi Everyi e me again with another stall question. So for the past 3-4 months I have been at a stall. I keep gaining and losing the same 1-2 pounds. I have 20 more pounds to go to reach the doctor’s weight loss goal. I will be one year August 16. I also changed my exercise routine. My eating changed also as I am eating more foods as opposed to drinking my protein. Is this normal?

    So glad to see this topic because I'm at 7 weeks and this past week I hit that plateau for the first time. Really tried to adhere to diet since I noticed but haven't checked scale in a few days and probably won't for another few. I'm sure the body does a lot of adjusting to the substantially lower caloric intake.

    I am exactly one week post-op today. The start of my week was rough. Post-op I woke up and vomited for the first 24 hours (literally non-stop). My blood pressure was on the fritz in the hospital as well. After coming home I had some pretty terrible muscle soreness. Starting on Friday I was having some pretty significant pain in my incision sites. Today has been much better. Through this whole journey I have put on a happy face to my friends and family and acted as though I am great. Just a while ago as I was showering, I finally let myself have a pity party. I cried and I prayed so hard that it’s all going to be better soon. I just wanted to vent and get it all out. I don’t regret anything I just needed a vent! Thanks for letting me get it out. Happy 4th of July everyone!

    Trying to get out of my head....

    I stalled a lot, I would increase my intake and then I would start loosing again. I seem to be kind of “odd” though. At a year and a half my hunger hasn’t come back, volume wise I am on the really low end as far as intake capability (this is the concern for my nutritionist… one scrambled egg white and one bite of a Turkey sausage patty and I am DONE) , and I still can’t tolerate certain foods. I’ve kinda wondered it the surgeon took out more stomach than he was supposed to 😅 (Foods I can’t tolerate: pork, bread, rice, and noodles. These foods all make me feel terrible) I also can’t tolerate anything fried or anything heavy in sugar (being honest these should be avoided anyways lol) . Most of that restricted food is carbs…. The pork is interesting though because pork loin is a lean meat, but it makes me super sick.

    Trying to get out of my head....

    My nutritionist is kinda trash. But my surgeon and the nurse practitioner are fantastic, and they said not to count calories at all. Just watch the protein, carbs, and fats. So that's what I do. I may need to try that fitness app. I just worry because I can look at what I'm eating, and how much, and I know I'm not getting enough in. But my mind just has such a hold on me right now that I literally can't force myself to eat more. Even when I know I need to. I'm hungry, I'm under what I should be eating, but it's like I won't allow it. I need to figure out how to break that. I wonder if I keep hitting stalls because I'm not eating enough......is that a thing??
  25. I started my 6 month supervised diet with my PCP back in November and finished that mid-April. I had my first appointment at my surgeon's office 5/10. I went to my endoscopy pre-op appointment on 7/1 and mentioned I still needed to speak with the psychologist. They got in contact with him and he called me that afternoon. After a brief conversation, he said I passed and it sounded like I was ready for this. So now I have my endoscopy on Friday and within two weeks or so after that they should hopefully call me with a surgery date. I'm so excited. It's getting real! A small part of me is a little bummed though because on Saturday my captain told me he would be moving me back into the control room soon on a certain sergeants off days so now that's going to happen and then I'm going to turn around and be out for four weeks! I know Cap will work with me and knows why I'll be out, but I hate to inconvenience him too and I LOVE running the control room. It'll be worth it in the end though!
