Survive Gastric bypass pre op diet

Hey...I just started my 2 week diet today! I drank my protein drink for breakfast. It was kind of gross but there's 40g of protein so I actually feel really full! I was told I can have a small meal like weight watchers or lean cuisine for dinner. We can help each other through this!

    Just made decision!

I have BCBSMN and I am about to be done with my 6 months of monitored weight loss, I have my Upper GI, EKG, Nutritional appointment, and my psych evaluation on Thursday, and then after all that they submit to insurance. My Surgeon said hopefully by beginning of August I'll have my date. I started on Feb 12 2015
  3. I'm lucky I guess as I instinctively know when I've had enough. You appear to be doing everything 'right' ie eating slowly & watching your portion sizes. I'm not Clear from your post if you are worried about Under or overeating? I'd suggest not being so hung up on the amount you are eating and try to listen to your body. I can assure you as long as you are eating a varied diet you will not become malnourished. I ate what I wanted and let my weight loss tell me How I was doing. Try it!
  4. Dear all, I am really so happy to find this forum. I was sleeved in 9 December 2019 in Germany and everything was so perfect for me so far. My Dr told me that after two months i should reduce the pills of PPI slowly. i really did so. It is my fifth month so far and i cannot reduce for more than one pill 40mg for each three days. I really tried a lot but it does not work. in the third day i start feeling some slight pain in my stomach and others i have slight pain in my tonsils. Anyone had a similar story? i am really afraid of having a chronic GERD and then converting to bypass. A last question is about weight loss. since two months my weight loss is very slow. It is a kilo and a half or two kilos maximum. Does it mean that i will not reach my goal? I was 146 kilo. Now i am 114 Thanks a lot
  5. Anyone Have This Happen...what to do now? 1 year out.I am to down to 114.5lbs (5'tall a little bony and 69 years young) ).... I look and feel great, however (I think) Seems I am losing too rapidly all of a sudden. We have relocated to a new city without bariatric support. When eating I can only hold so much ( small egg or walnut size pouch)... Many thanks!

    A first hello and questions.

Hi! Good for you to start this journey!! I didn't tell many people, because I didn't want people to be negative. I told one of my best friends from childhood, and she told me how her aunt had a lap band years ago and it didn't work... Blah...blah...blah. My mother in law was supportive but just had questions. I didn't even tell my husband until I had the appointment with the surgeon, after all my research and my online class. I have to say, people think WLS is drastic. Well, when I was 30, I had a preventive bilateral mastectomy because I found out I had the breast cancer mutation after my 32 year old sister was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. People thought that was drastic. It saved my life. 4 years later, I had my ovaries removed, again, to prevent cancer. I did all those surgeries to make myself healthy and try to keep cancer away from my body, but I was obese. I went from overweight to obese to "morbidly" obese. I knew my weight could cause so many problems. Cancer, stroke, heart attack, etc. I had to do this for me. For my kids who I want to see grow up. I was tired of being tired. I was tired of eating a whole row of Oreos, knowing it was bad for me, thinking how I am clogging my arteries but unable to stop. I don't crave that stuff anymore. As for taste, mine hasn't changed. Bariatric Eating has good shakes, Inspire. They are thin and mix pretty well. I had been using premier protien and they are good but I'm just tired of them and they seem so thick to me now. Dont let others people's views get you down. You are brave and amazing for taking this step. It's a tool. Not a fix. You have to embrace the journey. Good luck.
  7. Can you still lose weight if you get pregnant with the lap band?
  8. Ok I know that I've had PCOS for years now but every physician I see, makes it seem as if it all in my head. I've always struggled with weight and the more I put on the more hairier and acanthosis areas I get, and it's embarrassing. So anyways I got my testosterone tested and it's extremely high 147 for total and 16 for free I think. So I was worried about my test results but my endocrinologist makes me feel as if it's nothing. Can any females experiencing PCOS give me some much needed advice [emoji5]
  9. Hello all! I've missed being on here. What are some things people have done to support and encourage you when you were struggling? I'm looking for ways to help my beloved who is struggling right now. My husband is overweight and trying to loose weight. He is doing the right things but the scale is not moving and clothing is not getting any looser. (A story many of us are familiar with!) He doesn't come close to qualifying for surgery but said he would do it if he could. I help him by: encouraging him to exercise in a way he enjoys, try to do active things together when possible and work to help him with meals/macros/portion control (I do all the cooking and shopping right now.). He is getting in a lot of good exercise and eating to have a good calorie deficit. I've tried telling him that I am really proud of him and he is doing the right things but he kinda doesn't believe it/want to hear it. To be fair I didn't enjoy hearing that when I was so overweight and doing the right things too and the scale wasn't moving. I had RNY March 2016 and have lost about 150 pounds. I don't think this is a reactionary, now he feels overweight because I've lost the weight. He has been struggling with his weight the last 5 or 6 years. Any ideas on how to support would be most welcome. Thanks!
  10. No worries. 1200 is not a long term number, and it doesn't matter much because he "cheats". He went on a business trip for 3 weeks and lost 1 pound (at least he didn't gain!), but the weight started dropping again when he got back... nowhere near as fast, but he's doing well. Low calories will always cause fat loss. The scale may not show it due to fluid retention, but for my hubby it is working. His cheat days boost his weekly totals, and allow him to drop the cortisol-induced fluid weight. If I put him on a "sustainable" number of calories, he'd still cheat (he cheats for emotional reasons, not hunger), and not see any movement on the scale at all... just like what happened on his business trip. Once he gets near goal, we'll get his bmr tested to see what his maintenance calories should look like. We'll build in a daily "cheat" that will hopefully make it all sustainable for him.
  11. Absolutely possible. With a starting BMI of 47, you will lose more weight faster than those with a smaller BMI. Congratulations!

    Amandas Journey

I finally made the doctors apointment to talk about my weight loss goals! He sent in a referral to the bariatric surgery department with 3 clicks on the computer! i have my first class on october 18th still a long way to go but i thought if i was going to tell my story i should start at the very beginning! thank god for this website now i know its not so simple and there Are hoops i need to jump through. i want to have the sleeve or Gastic bypass but with the recovery time being so short with lap band im thinking about that too.. i have two young children both under 2 and the faster healing the better.. i have kaiser so cal. Im looking for people to share their stories with me i want to know what to expect before i get waist deep ... :thumbup1:
  13. you did not blow anything keep cheating and the dr may open the stomach and go nope, cant do it... i read a few people that happened to.....its not worth it..for a minute or two food gasm to toss away all that hard work.....stay busy, read, take a bath, have sex, walk, go shopping....you wont starve (although our diet thinking will let us think we are)...get back on track TODAY.....as terry said, the weight could be Water or because you didnt poop or who the freek knows......stay off the scale....when you have surgery, measuring your success is buying smaller clothes...that is a true reality to if you are losing weight..... so do what you have to do......what you need to do... and get on with it.. if you want to lose weight and be healthy, you will.. all the best
  14. I have to complete 6 months weight management as part of the qualifications before surgery. Well I'm almost done with it, but now I've messed up. I went nuts one weekend and now I can't get back on track like before... I'm eating less than I did before weight management, but more than I am supposed to. Even if I straighten up right now... I think I've gained weight since my last weigh in. I'm worried my nutritionist won't approve the surgery because I slipped and its making me less honest in my tracking and more likely to slip more... last nut appt is Wednesday. What do I do? Do I come clean? Will my nut refuse to send the recommendation letter I need over this massive slip? Do I say I've been a little bad? I think I've gained back 3 pounds. Help. I need this surgery. Obviously I need the tool of bypass... what should I do? What will the nut say?
  15. I read this interesting story on the Huffington Post about a woman who experienced jealousy, lost friendships & had to deal with oodles of attention after losing weight. Check out the great article here: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/4577625?utm_hp_ref=tw It got me thinking where there things you didn't expect to happen or threw you for a loop after you the weight? It could be positive or negative. Please share your story!

    Discussing it with the spouse

@@Anilyn -- It seems to me that what you began with here is what you should be saying to your husband. What strikes me in particular is that he's on board for the most part and that you don't want to be seen as your history. You need him to have faith in you so that he can cheerfully support you along the way. You need the same faith in yourself. Yes, it's possible to regain weight lost after surgery. All things are possible, nothing is guaranteed. In the case of surgery, it's up to each of us to eliminate the probability. You might also invite your husband to attend some support group meetings with you. Some time ago a woman I met in the lapband group brought her husband a few times. She had his whole-hearted support. What he didn't quite get but wanted to understand was the emotional part of her particular journey. He was terrific. He'd introduce himself with the addendum, "I'm the hus-bander."
  17. Regain is always a possibility. However, not doing something is about 100percent chance of remaining obese and all the consequences. I revised from band to sleeve 4 years ago, lost half my body weight, and remain at goal. It isn't easy, but it's possible.

    To fast weight loss

Most patients that are having a normal recovery won't lose too much weight. Being female, your body might want to lose another 10-25lbs, or more, depending on your height. But, if you want to stop losing, you need to increase your calories.. but not junk. Lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates will get you there.
  19. I had my gastric sleeve on 11-8-2016 my starting weight was 223 my current weight is 156. I don't want to lose any more how do I stop losing???
  20. yes do let us know how it goes. In a couple of years I'll probably want to see about getting pregnant with one of those money drains known as children. And with my other health conditions and stuff I know I would need a high risk OB, but still wonder about the band the role it plays esp with things like morning sickness and healthy weights and so forth! And good luck with your pregnancy!

    Banded May 29, 2012

I was banded 5/8. It sounds like you're making amazing progress! Be proud of yourself. i am not weighing myself. I get my weight at the monthly fill appointment. I'm focusing on food choices and listening to my body. So far no problems and am happy with my progress.
  22. Hi everyone, I'm Tanya. I live in Northern California with my husband and my two daughters. I'm 35 years old and I have been overweight all of my life. I weighed 320lbs on 5/13 when I had my weight check with my local Kaiser doctor and this morning it was 304lbs. I have been wanting weight loss surgery for years but I didn't realized it was a covered benefit of my insurance until April of this year. I have lost weight in the past, a couple times I lost 80lbs but it always comes back. If I lose 80lbs, I still weigh 240lbs and still have 100lbs to lose! It's so overwhelming and I seem to hit a wall at 240 and can't get under it, so I give up. I attended orientation at Kaiser Richmond's Bariatric Surgery Program on 6/14 and have been on the pre-op plan since 6/15. So far the hardest for me has been no gum, no drinking with meals and no snacking! I have been really good and haven't cheated yet and the weight is falling off. I'm also walking 60 minutes a day and today I'm also going to try a bike ride, I hope I don't pop the tires! Our local program does either the sleeve or gastric bypass, they say the lap band is becoming obsolete and don't even do it anymore. I chose the sleeve because I liked the idea of the order of digestion staying the same and liked that it is a restrictive surgery and not a malabsorbsion surgery. So far I have gotten tons of encouragement just by reading all of the posts on the forums. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you better and sharing my journey with you every step of the way! I have an appointment with my surgeon, Albert Im, on July 14. I hope to be down to the weight he recommends at my appointment so I can get a surgery date!

    I'm Ready

Yes I do live in SE Idaho. I've quit drinking Diet soda for about a year now. I occasional have one at a restaurant but I usually have Water. That is one thing I am worried about is my water intake. I drink a lot of water, I guess I am just going to have to figure it out. Probably not a big problem. I never really drink alcohol much, I only do on occasions. I quit smoking two months ago. Which probably led to my last increase of weight. This overrating thing is my last vice I need to shake. I'm just impatiently waiting for bariactric services to call and get me going. Thank ya'll for your encouragement and comments. I appreciate it.
  24. A week ago me and my partner was in Salt Lake for Comic Con. A well needed vacation. We decided to go out to the bar the last night. We didn't have anything to wear nice so we went to the mall and went clothes shopping. Everything I tried was way to small. We finally ended up getting me measured and discovered I was up to 48 size jeans. Humiliating. I still can wear my 40s but I think they stretched and grew along with me. I am a 36 year old guy, gay, always had a problem with my weight. I was a fat kid. I achieved weight loss twice in my life, at 21 I was in school and just coming out, I reached as far as 175 lbs. Unfortunately I got into a bad relationship after that, gained back the weight probably to 320 lbs.. After 8 years I became restless and awoken, decided I was going to get out of this funk lose the weight and become better. I was still with this guy and within 8 months I was back down to 200 or so. He became more abusive and cruel and jealous so we had to part ways. After finding my current partner I discovered I was HIV positive. And my emotional walls came falling down and I started to eat my emotions again. After the weekend my partner looked up and found bariactric surgery was available with our United healthcare insurance. We just met with a doctor and they said that everything should be to go forth but not at their hospital. I had to call for some sort of six month program which I am still waiting to hear from. I am ready though. I hope I can do this. I am so tired of struggling. I am so tired of worrying that I'm going to die of heart disease, diabetes, etc. I want to be "normal" and live life to the fullest. I have so many things I'm up against. I would like it to be one less thing I have to deal with. I gather it is a tool. I gather it will be hard but I'm up for it. So how bad does it hurt? Anyone wish they didn't do it? What is with this 6 month deal?
