    Looking for ideas

I'm 13 weeks post op and have have about everything that could go wrong go wrong. Last dilitation on my stricture was a real good one, put me down for a week. But it is open now but still can't get fluids down enough and food has been a painful joke. In the 13 weeks since surgery I'm guessing I've had a 100 grams of protein maybe. I've lost 115 lbs and am weak. Any professional advice like should I have a feeding tube? Or something else. Disability don't pay my bills and need to get back to work! Thanks for any input. Cold all the time

I have been eating avocadoes since I was on soft food about two weeks ago. I LOVE them! I sprinkle chilli pepper on it and I am going to try it with tuna in place of the mayo prob for lunch today. I have noticed I seem to be a little colder than norm. I guess its the 25lb sweater that I threw away!
  4. At 4 weeks out I was still on soft foods and I don't believe that would include Brussels sprouts. I think you may be trying certain foods a little early. Stick with soft easily chewable foods for a little while and add the more dense things slowly. As said before, what you cannot tolerate now may be OK in the months to come. Take is slowly and you will be more comfortable...Kathe

Who is banded the longest amount of time....

I've been banded for almost three years, and am one of the longest-term members of this board. The band has only been approved for use in the U.S. since June of 2001, so you won't find a lot of Americans who have been banded longer than 5 years, and not all that many of those. I haven't had any serious complications, beyond having had my band unfilled a couple of times to help deal with reflux. I'm hoping that my long-term experience will be completely uneventful. :biggrin1:

    HOW DARE SHE!!!! :P

My Dr's office manager is on vacation this week and not in to schedule my surgery! How dare she! So I have to wait to Friday or longer to schedule. ugggggg!!!! I'm still hoping to get the 22nd. :/ :/ :/
  7. After serveral attempts I got intouch with a person at my Dr.'s office and have an appointment for the 6th for a fill. I do better during the week with the liquid diet following a fill. That is better than this Friday and having to prepare 3 meals a day for 3 days for my family while I watch.

Just Had to Share...HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

Let me clarify. October 2005...diagnosed with diabetes...weighed 287 lbs..dieted...lost 13 lbs February went to Lapband seminar 3 weeks before surgery went on 500 cal/day liquid Protein diet March 14, 2006 had surgery...weighed 257 lbs I haven't lost 60 lbs in 3 months...I've lost 60 lbs since my journey began last October. As far as eating plan...I do what my doc told me...eat what you like. He doesn't give you a plan. I try to get in protein first like everyone else, then veggies. I don't count anything. I do take a very good liquid Vitamin supplement. Some days I feel very little restriction...other days like yesterday....I have a bunch of restriction. Thanks for all the congrats from everyone...you're all the best!
  9. I had my lapband surgery in July 2011. It slipped in July 2012 but it fell back in place once the Fluid was removed. I had it refilled the last week in December and it slipped again last week. I only had it filled for about 2 1/2 months before it slipped again My doctor wants to remove it and would like to do a revision to bypass or the sleeve (my choice). My question is, how hard is it to get approved for a revision due to mechanical failure? I'm worried because my bmi is 36 with no co-morbities. I'm the same weight as I was before the surgery. I have priority partners in Maryland. I was self-pay for my lapband. Thank you!

    Someone please help!!!

My doc said 60-80gm of Protein a day. I usually eat 1 egg for Breakfast or a low cal/low carb Protein shake. Then lunch and dinner are 3-4 oz of protein, 1 cup steamed vegies and 1/4 c. carbs (rice, potato, etc.). Just looked up the Morningstar veggie patty on fitday.com and it says that 1 patty is a serving at 81 calories and 9.8gm of protein. Three patties would be approx. similar to 4 oz of cooked chicken. .

To drink or not to drink!!??

I drink. Always have. Not with carbonated mixers and no more than once a week or so usually. But I've never given up drinking.

To drink or not to drink!!??

Yeah I don't suggest giving up drinking entirely. Maybe cut back to just one glass a wine a week though? Then it will make it more special and you can really enjoy it knowing that it's perfectly fine for you to drink. And the girls night out cosmo's... sounds like fun! Just don't over do it, but that socializing and laughter probably burns a few calories and the endorphins you would get from going out and having fun with friends are well worth it in my opinion
  13. I have been surfing through the threads here and learning ALOT!! One thing I am wondering , and have not seen Any postings about is drinking. I know it is empty calories. BUT I do like my glass of wine a couple times a week and my monthly girls night out when we drink cosmos! Can anybody give me any feed back on drinking? I am fine giving it up for a while but at Christmas or News Years I would love to be able to have a couple of drinks! I get banded Dec 8th :confused_smile:

    Work

I can tell you like Houston mentioned, it does vary. But that said for myself, I was sleeved on a Thursday morning, home Friday. Went grocery shopping on Saturday all by myself and was off pain meds except tylenol at that point. Monday I worked a full day. My day job is as an IT consultant and I am a professional photographer (in a very fun field as far as photography goes ). As a consultant I'm at a desk most of the day but often driving between clients or standing, walking, crawling etc to get to things. No issues at all. The Thursday after my surgery (one week post-op) I did a full photoshoot on location with lights, stands, equipment, etc. No issues whatsoever. What my doc had told me is that if you have a very physical job (contractor, butcher, roofer, etc) wait two weeks. But for most of us we could return to work as soon as we felt like it and that even a couple days afterwards while we might have been uncomfortable working, we wouldn't hurt ourselves working. But for myself I found it a non-issue. I felt as well that Monday after surgery as I did a week before hand. No pain, no nausea, just took some Gas-X to control the last little bit of gas and that was it.

    First Fill Tomorrow afternoon!!!

Hi Chrisann I'm Shirley, I've read many of your posts, we were banded on the same day, new years eve 07. I will get my first fill in a week or so, I have not been as ''happy'' about my band as others. No real reason , just struggling with it all... My question is "what do I need to do to prepare for the fill ?" I would appreciate any other suggestions you might have, thanks. Shirley

    First Fill Tomorrow afternoon!!!

Glad to hear your first fill went okay. I actually had a little tiff with my dr's office this morning. I called to confirm my appt on the 5th and first they didn't even have me down:angry:. Then I asked if my surgeon would be doing it and they said "more than likely", well I hit the roof. I will not be getting a fill on the 5th unless its my surgeon. This band is my baby! Backstory- I haven't seen my surgeon since I had surgery on Jan 7, when I had my 1 week followup I only saw him in the hallway. The nurses did my followup. 1 nurse in particular, I guess she's like the head office nurse now is the one that does the followups. She also does all the emergency calls during the week. Well, the phone girl said that she does fills when my doc can't for any reason. I told her that I was a self-pay patient and I was not comfortable with that at all. I choose my surgeon because of HIS reputation, not his office staff. Well, that went over real well. About 10 minutes later said nurse calls me at work, trying to explain to me all the training and such that she has had and how she has specific patients that request her for fills.

    First Adjustment

I had my first adjustment March 28th with 3cc's :clap2: It went very well. I think it's just an awesome thing to have done. It's been six weeks since I was banded.
  18. I was rebanded on April 11th and also had a hernia repaired at the same time...my port was not replaced...I have been having severe pain under my left breast for almost a week now it started after going for a walk I called my DR a few days ago and was told it is normal because so much manipulation was done in that area ..Everytime i take a deep breath it hurts so bad i could cry ....i am not having trouble with food getting stuck at all i am eating small amounts and chewing well...fluids also go down fine ....i dont know what to do my dr just said to take it easy with excercise because it can take 4-6 weeks to completely heal

    1st Fill Advise

Thanks for the advice. I know waiting is the right approach. I'm just worried about stretching my pouch. I'm definitely eating more and more often (but not as much as pre-banding). I was so good for the first 5 weeks, no slip ups at all. Now I have lost all will power.

    not patient, not happy

I found out today that it will be a week or two before I get my results from the first round of Cushing's testing. I can't help but pitch a big hissy fit at the thought of waiting two whole weeks for my test results. Dr. E will be out of town until next Monday, and I'll be back in Idaho by then. It just feels so far away, not only in time but space as well. I see a new PCP tomorrow, my doc has moved to Everette, and that is just too far to go. I've been with her about 10 years, but I was thinking it was time to move on to a different doctor, since she wasn't really taking me seriously anymore. I mean, I had sleep apenea and serous sleep problems and I basically had to twist her arm to get it taken care of. She wanted to blame most of my issues on "needs therapy" as opposed to really wanting to find the cause. I am just feeling so sorry for myself lately. Monday I ended up in the ER with another bout of celulitus. And my headache has gotten worse. Probably from all the stress from the Cushing's and decideing to quit school for now. Pain makes things worse. It just does. I feel anxious and stressed. I'm out of the lexapro, so I guess I need to get that refilled. Duh. I miss my pilaties ball. How funny is that? I started to use a new drawing book, "drawing on the Right side of the brain." it's pretty interesting. A very different way of looking at things, much more an adult program than the Mark Kistler books.

    What to do?

So I have one week of vacation left at work and was thinking of going to Cuba or jamaica. Either this September or October But I know it's hurricain season so there is some chance that one might trouble my trip. Or I was thinking about maybe in December when the hurricain season down and it will be also my 40th BDay. Except I'm scare most of my summer clothes won't fit anymore by then cause of my sleeve (summer clothes hard to come by in canada around that date besides bikini.) So I am so annoyed I don't now what to do, all I know is that I need to have my toes in the sand before this year ends or I'm gonna go crazy LOL
  22. My weight loss should start improving .. My incisions are finally healed and that means I can get in the pool. I will be waterwalking 2 nights a week. I would love to do more- but on the other nights the pool is just to crowded for Water walking. I have arthritis and have had a knee replaced , so I W.W. because it is so low impact. I am diabetic and it took extra long for incisions to heal.

    I'm back....

HI all..........I had my surgery on the 31st of may. I stayed in Tacoma for a week because we live so far away. Week check up was great lost 9 lbs. so that is 18 lbs. in 18 days. (had to do 10 days of clear liquid before surgery and now 3 weeks of clear liquids) Feeling great and just taking it easy to recover from the surgery. Nice to be home...Tacoma is great but too many trees I am used to open spaces.
  24. WrenBird you need to look up The Diet Solution by Isabella Del Rossi. It's a 15 minute video keep a pen and pad beside you to take a few quick notes. My husband and I started to eat this way back in March and I lost 15 pounds in the first week. If you do let me know what you think.

    Am I too tight?

I was overfilled once and I didn't have any problems knowing that it was too tight. I was not able to even get a sip of Water to stay down and I kept having foamy liquid come up. You don't say when you got your fill, that is important. For the first four or five days you will likely have swelling and you should take it easy with liquids or soft foods until the swelling goes down. If you are taking small bites and chewing and the food is staying down then you are probably ok. Tougher meats are going to go down slow. But if you can't take in liquids go back right away because you can get dehydrated very quickly. Sounds like you have restriction, whether it is too much is up to you. As long as I can take in liquids and get some soft food down, I like to wait a week for the swelling to go away then see how I feel. If it is too much restriction for you then go back.
