    Blended phase

I pureed chicken, tuna and salmon with greek yogurt. A fine pureed tuna salad was more appealing than meat and broth blended up. You don't need to completely liquefy it to where you can drink it. Think having it the consistency of greek yogurt. Also, check out the blod "the world according to eggface" - she has an entire post dedicated to the puree phase.

    Blended phase

I'm on week 3 post op and struggling with puree stage. Bored of shakes and yogurts. Was sick today after having fish pie. 4 mouthfuls all very soft and was doubled over in pain? Should I be worried? Thanks Sent from my SM-N910F using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hello. Fellow 9/19 sleever here. All-in-all it seems like I've had a pretty non-eventful recovery. Day +1 in the hospital was tough to get in all the liquid the dr. wanted (about 10oz). But every day I've been feeling better by leaps and bounds. Came home on Tuesday (9/20) evening. Pain & discomfort are completely manageable. Haven't had the need to use any of the prescribed pain meds since I've been home. I did use liquid tylenol on a couple of occasions, but I think the last was on thursday. Only real discomfort now (and it's pretty minor) is at the main incision site when I get out of bed. The incision sites seem like they're healing up, because they're starting to itch like crazy. I work mostly from home, and for the past couple of days I have been able to spend as much time as I need to at my desk without feeling uncomfortable. Only issue on that front is the energy level. I've taken more naps in the last week than I have since my kids were babies. Up to about 48 oz of Water a day, and able to do 3 Protein shakes plus a couple of other smooth/liquid meals (soup, pudding, yogurt) per day. Walking around fine, and the energy level is finally starting to increase. I feel like I'm ready for soft foods, but I'm not doing anything until my Dr. tells me to at my follow up visit on 9/29. sleeping was a little tough at first, but now seems pretty good. And last night I was able to actually sleep on my side for a while (I'm a big side sleeper). Had some issues with gas early on, but found that the Gas-X strips do a great job managing that quickly. First poop was on Friday, 9/23, and I've been pretty regular since. Biggest challenges now are getting the liquid and protein in and increasing the amount that I'm walking. The liquid diet is getting a little boring, but I'm hopeful that I'll get the thumbs up on Thursday and I can go until then with no problem. HW 348, SW 321, CW 312.

    Blended phase

I never puréed or blended, except shakes. I made good low fat chili, no lumps whatsoever, and we sipped it at five weeks out. Soups, bisque, no crust quiche, eggs, small curd cottage cheese, yogurts, and I made a lot of low fat soups myself. We made sure we took exceptionally small bites, and enjoyed the flavors.

    Puree

I eased into puree with just greek yogurt. Then I would puree tuna or chicken with a little greek yogurt. THis was more appealing to me than pureeing meat with broth. I could handle the idea of a fine texture chicken or tuna salad much better. The flavored pouches of tuna kept it from getting too boring. I also tried it with the flavored pouches of salmon. Do a search for Shelly's ricotta bake also - makes for a nice warm savory change while on purees. Just remember to take it easy - your stomach is very much still healing during this phase and the last thing you want is food bits getting stuck in that staple line. A lot of people also have refried beans with some melted cheese.
  6. I was on a roll. I mean really on a roll right around 8 weeks post op I was becoming more consistent with hitting my Protein goals and I was improving my Water intake. I wasn't up to 64 oz most days of the week but I was progressing slowly and was ok with that. I feel like in the last 2 weeks, I've taken 2 steps backward. I'm hardly ever hitting my protein goals, and somedays I wonder if I even drank anything that day. I drink enough not to have symptoms of dehydration plus I do drink smoothies (which I make with water) and eat fruit and veggies like strawberries and cucumbers during Snacks so I'm getting it in. I am still losing-- haven't hit any stalls just yet. I have some weeks where weight loss is slower but it's still a loss. Then it picks up again. Anyways the shakes make me gag too and I really liked them. Greek yogurt is challenging but I still work at it. I find that I just have to take it slow even if it takes an hour to get it down. I want to eat Protein Bars but I feel guilty about eating those so I'm open to all WLS hacks. This one seems promising.

    Anyone eat hummus?

I started eating it alone early on. Now I put a little on low salt chicken or turkey cold cuts to add some moisture. I also use it to mix crushed pills to take a break from yogurt or pudding. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  8. I'm not a big sweets eater so the protein' drinks', pudding', Popsicles', etc. about killed me. I mixed Ranch dressing packs, mashed avocado, French onion soup' mix, Italian dressing mix, basically any dried soup' flavor I could find, into plain Greek yogurt and ate it with a spoon. My family would use it for veggies or chips'. Everyone got more protein' and I got something other than faux chocolate'.
  9. Thanks. I get to move to full liquids which includes greek yogurt which I have always loved. Hopefully it helps with protein too.
  10. I'm 2 weeks post op today so transition to purée tomorrow.....It's different in the UK as we don't use the Protein shakes as the main deal. My liquids have been Water Ice pops Consumee ( beef stock) Semi - milk with a decaf coffee shot to make a latte ( sometime with marvel milk powder for extra protein) I also so the same with hot chocolate. Fresh orange juice for vit c Slim fast Meal Replacement shakes Strained Soups Yogurt In the main the milk is the protein provider. It's been a great two weeks and I've been able to do fast walking on the treadmill the last 4 days with enough energy. Can't wait for purée !!!

As long as i get all my protein in, i dont feel hungry Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    genepro vs isopure

I'm using Isopure unflavored. Clumps a little bit in hot Soups. Amazing in sf pudding and shakes. I do a cup of milk, Greek yogurt and Protein in blender. Can't even taste the protein. I also did cream of wheat today and couldn't taste the protein. It mixed well in that. Sent from my LGLS770 using the BariatricPal App

    What is your favorite snack?

I've been into homemade milk kefir for years (excellent natural probiotic source), and I like have a little of that with some blueberries or another type of fruit. If one has never tried it, it's like a drinkable yogurt, a little more sour though.

    October sleevers?

a boiled egg is fine. you can also have a non fat low/no sugar greek yogurt..I think the hardest part is not chewing anything all day, so I bought sugar free gum.In the long run, it'll be worth the sacrifice now. Stay strong!

    Liquid diet

Mine is Soups, broths, shakes, yogurts, puddings, and cream of wheat. Seven days in and I woke up this morning dizzy as hell with the room spinning and feeling super malnourished. Hope this is not an indication of what to expect post op. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. I'm about five days away from my five month post-op anniversary. In that time, I have struggled with finding foods that I like and can tolerate. My diet pretty much consists of chicken drummettes (hot wings), chicken tenders, chicken nuggets (yeah, the breaded kind!), baked fish, shrimp, and bacon. I eat a lot of cheese and yogurt. I can tolerate steamed vegetables like broccoli and green Beans. I supplement my Protein with an unflavored Protein powder in the Minute Maid Just 15 lemonades and fruit punches. I give myself two days per week to try something new. This week, it was today and yesterday. Anyway, I decided to try a Coke Zero. I took two sips and choked. Too bitter. Today, I tried a Coke Zero Cherry. I figured maybe I just needed a little flavor. Nope. I can't believe I'm saying this but it seems I no longer like the chemical taste of soda. It's hard to describe it but it just didn't taste natural. I guess I'm just used to lemonade. I've tried fries. Nope. Too chalky. I've tried potato chips. Sits too heavy. I do tolerate popcorn, but I can't tolerate most breads. Oh! I do love rice. In a way, it's a victory. I used to love these foods. I could eat a whole bag of chips by myself. But now, since they don't taste the same, I can seriously do without them. Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has given an old favorite a try. What about you? Any favorites that you loved that you cannot tolerate now?

    Not much energy

That's awesome that we had our surgery the same day.....I drink my Protein shake in the morning, I've been eating cottage cheese, tuna, yogurt, sometimes I'll eat as much of a high protein lean cuisine as I can. I was trying the protein Water, but it's awful. I don't know what else to do other than up my fluids, plus I get really cranky, but I think it's just because I'm really tired. I'm hoping my body just needs to adjust and that it happens soon. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App
  20. Hang in there. It does get better. I am almost four weeks out and the pinching has finally stopped unless my stomach is completely empty. I was told to eat soft Protein as soon as I got home form the hospital. Yogurt and cottage cheese every four hours and Protein Drink in between. Only able to eat 3-4 oz. at a time. It took me 5 days to have a bowel movement. I actually went back on pain meds and that helped because I was in too much pain to bear down. The stool softener helped but you have to have some kind of solid food in your stomach when you take it. Also, if you are only on clear fluids what do you have in your intestinal tract to eliminate? Eating soft protein also helps to keep the pain level down. Good Luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October Surgery Buddies

    Can I eat/drink?

No wonder you are confused. Those instructions are very confusing. I am not even at 1500 calories in maintenance at almost 16 months post-op. And I would think it will be near impossible to get 1500 calories in just 3 meals without snacking. My meals are rarely (if ever) 500 calories per meal. There just isn't enough room. And if you are eating lean Protein and veggies, they aren't calorie dense enough. That said, we are very glad you asked about what you can have as it is tough with such little instructions. I had a huge booklet though and I was still confused (too much info really). There are some docs who say no Protein drinks, but I will tell you that at this far out, I am still having one per day. I just cannot imagine how I would get sufficient calories and protein without it given my stomach capacity is so small. I didn't read all the posts, so forgive me if the following is repetitive, but here are some suggestions: Try Premier Protein ready to drink shakes. They are great! They are thin, only 11 ounces and have 30g of protein. Some folks don't like them, but many do recommend them and that is what I still drink. For a powder (if you go that route) be sure to get whey Protein ISOLATE (it supposedly absorbs differently). I use Precision Engineered Whey Protein Isolate and I just love it. It also has 30g of protein and other good macro-nutrients (plus is 99% lactose free if that is an issue for you). What I liked about the powder (especially the first 6 to 12 weeks) was that I would add it to stuff. For example (once you can tolerate thicker "liquids" or soft food), I would add in 1/2 scoop of vanilla powder to 1/2 a container of greek yogurt (my favorites are Dannon Light & Fit Greek Key Lime or Dannon Light & Fit strawberry Cheesecake). I would also add 1/2 scoop of chocolate Protein Powder to a sugar free / fat free dark chocolate pudding snack container. Those things really helped amp up the protein and helped keep me full. Now one last thing, I would be happy to direct you to my nutritionist team if you like. They do all consultations over the phone so it is super easy. Throughout my weight loss phase, I would send her my food logs and talk to her about once a month. Since I reached goal, I have slowed down talking to her a bit (and to be honest with you, I have been backsliding a little and not tracking and wonder if a call to her wouldn't help with accountability and getting back on track). They specialize in bariatric patients and its not that expensive. If interested, send me a private message and I will send you the details. Hang in there! You can do this!!
  25. It's funny I was hoping mine would change after surgery cause I couldn't even take any type of shake at all, i was hiding the flavor in Greek yogurt. I really can't wait to be able to have yogurt again. Ha. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
