What is this "full" feeling when I haven't even eaten?
Uncle Ted replied to Stephleupagus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with you. I haven't eaten since Sunday and am not the least bit hungry. The most I've been able to get down in a day is a 10 oz Muscle Milk, 20 oz of Water and a bit of broth. I'm sure it will get better but this is a seriously odd feeling! -
My leak test was awful. I don't know if that's the general consensus, but post-op every liquid felt like it was stopping above my diaphragm for 5-10 seconds before moving down and so I would sip slowly and small amounts to avoid it. When I got to the leak test, they told me to take it like a shot and augh, for those 5-10 seconds it was so uncomfortable. Good news is it started bubbling and moved down and I had no leaks! It was worth it for the peace of mind. It was also kinda neat to watch it go into my stomach on the xray machine screen.

Hi Scout, I am also scheduled 12/19 due to work reasons. I hope you have a quick recovery; and just have yourself some eggnog if you can for x-mas : That's what I plan to do, 1 whole swallow of it at least. That'll fill me up for a bit. lol

Dr. Zapata - Monterrey, Mexico
tyoung replied to tyoung's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know that it takes longer than that to get the passport, I sent in my son's application on Feb. 17th and we still haven't gotten it. The website for Passports says it takes 10 weeks, and we are on week 12!! I already have a passport as I went to Belgium a few years ago. My son and I are going to Croc, Mexico outside of Monterrey for a missions trip in June, so I hope his passport comes soon! ----- Anyone have any comments about Dr. Zapata and the Mexico banding? -
Help! Start My Pre Op Diet Tomorrow. Need Advice
betty_luna posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok I'm 19 years old and I am getting the sleeve done on the 29th and tomorrow I have to start my 14 days pre op diet. I am scared I don't know what to eat they basically >/= 50 grams of protein no more then 40 grams of fat and no more then 1000 calories a day. So I'm scared what if I don't make it'. Any advice. -
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my question, but I am posting here. I am 10 months post op, and have been at the same weight for the last 6 weeks. Can anyone else tell me if this is common, if they have experienced it, and what I can do to remedy this? I have lost 112lbs to date, and have another 50 to reach my goal weight, and I have become very depressed because of the lack of weight loss. HELP!!!

Sleeved 1/11/17 help/emotional
Dairymary replied to krissyvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
64oz is the bare minimum fluids any adult should be getting, whether they've had WLS or not. But studies show that drinking at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces is ideal for weight loss. You don't have a ticker that states your current weight, but if it's over 200 pounds you should be getting over 100 ounces. I'm down to 135 pounds, but I still strive to get 100 ounces every day. It's part of the formula I attribute my 6 years of success to. I know it's a real struggle in the beginning, but just do the best you can and make it a priority. And yes, making sure you are staying ahead of any deficiencies (including anemia from low iron) is crucial postop. Serious and sometimes irreversible damage can result from nutritional deficiencies. Iron, B12, D3, Calcium and folate tend to be the main culprits and can turn up even 10-20 years postop, which is why lifetime annual bloodwork (more often if you do have issues) is so important. -

One Year Surgiversary Coming Up
klouisa64 replied to Redmaxx's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations, Redmaxx! I see we had surgery a day apart as I had mine on 10/18/16. Our other stats are pretty much the same too. I'm doing well and so happy I had the surgery. Last Wednesday I had my one-year follow up appointment and my doctor is very pleased with where I'm had. Lab #s are great and that's so important. Keep doing what your doing! :-) -
Since this weight loss journey, I've had to deal with a lot of comments, mostly good. I am a pear shape and tend to lose weight first on top so I prepared myself to hear some negative comments (i heard those when i had lost weight before). I'm hearing things like: I need to eat something before i blow away, I don't need to lose anymore weight, i'm getting too skinny, I'm going to look like a bubblehead if i lose any more, etc. now mind you these are not from people that are significant to me. I'm 5'6 and started out at almost 250 and wear a size 20.. now I'm 182 and wear a size 14 on my bottom and 12 on top.. i'm trying to drop down to a size 10 bottom but would evaluate myself once i'm a size 12 on bottom.. so in what world is that too skinny or that i can't afford to lose more weight. I find myself getting defensive and that frustrate me. People are making it seem I'm being ridiculous and unreasonable. I guess i'm tired of hearing it because i'm going home to see my family on thanksgiving (they don't know about my surgery just that i've been losing weight) and I expect more comments along the same line. I just wanted to vent a little

has this happened to anyone else?
Lori replied to vicki s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vicki, I am 4weeks out . week 1 visit I was 4 pounds down and today 6 more pounds 10 pounds my doc said 15 to 20 pounds down at 6 weeks so I think your doing good. -
Ok--- Here is my take. I also work 50+ hrs/wk and went the personal trainer and nutrionist route as a final last ditch effort. I was totally committed to "doing it right" but lost like 10 lbs in 5 months working out every day. Not that I didn't lose inches or was stronger or more in shape-- i had all of that. But it didn't solve the problem of controlling the eating. That was the last straw. I know that you can relate because when you work the hours and add that in but have what seems like minimal results it is like being punched in the face. Frankly, I don't have 2 extra hours a day to work out like that. 30min-1 hr-yes. But I cannot make the gym my life. I feel like my band is the ultimate tool that will finally help me. Is there risk in surgery? yes. Is there risk in NOT getting surgery? yes. For me--- the risk of surgery out weighed my future health risks that were inevitable with out help. I know I cannot do this on my own-- I really did try. So how are you not prepared? You already are committed to excersize at least 3x a week and have the drive and the desire to lose. Bottom line- does your trainer actually know what it is like to be fighting his/her weight for like 20+ years? Mine didn't. Fills-- I just had my first one and it was no big deal. In and out in 45 minutes tops. Just with anything- Follow up is the key to success. I know in my job it is and I am sure with your career it is as well. Think of fills as follow up. As for learning how to eat with your band-- well (for me) the healing process etc helps teach you how to read hunger etc. I am 5'3 too and only 30lbs less than you-- Risk vs Reward. Either way we'll have health issues. I like my odds with the band vs with out. I know I have done with out it and it equals gaining 10-15 every year or more. The future with out the band holds more health issues than I could ever imagine. The stats of complications with the band are much less than the health issues with out it. My one last thought--- where do you think you will be in 2 years if you don't get the band? Where were you 2 years ago? Good luck in your journey-- do what you think is best for you.....

I am definitely a success story in the making. I have reached a major milestone in my life and one that I would not have made without the lap band. Please see my blog about my journey so far and click to follow. http://thelapbandexperience.blogspot.com/ I was banded 10 months ago and cannot believe where I stand today. I never dreamed I would hit this milestone in less than a year. My surgeon had a goal of 40 lbs a year with a total weight loss of 120 lbs over 3 years. I have always shopped at places like Lane Bryant and Woman Within (when I could no longer buy off the rack at Lane Bryant stores). I have gone from a very tight size 28/30 in pants to a size 18/20. I went from a size 4x/5x (30/32) top to a size 1x/2x (22/24) at a regular store not the specialty plus stores like Lane Bryant. I am shopping at Old Navy and saving tons of cash on clothes. I now shop at least 2-3 times a month for clothes. I am LOVING it!! That is definitely something I would never have thought I would do again. I still have a long ways to go but I know without a doubt I will get there. I am not eating bird-size portions. I don't eat fat free. I eat a salad plate size portion at each meal. I eat eggs every morning pretty much for breakfast. I don't exercise as much as a I should. Frankly hardly at all so I know that if I were to change that I would probably have been at my surgeon's goal already. The key here is I am happy. What I am doing is working for me. I don't obsess about food. I only recognize the foods I cannot eat. Other than that, all is fair game. I have come to realize my whole problem was portion control. I can choose healthier items if I want but I would eat really huge portions of everything. Now I don't. Another milestone for me is that I have not had a single soft drink in a year. March 25, 2010 was the day I stopped drinking soft drinks. I only drink Vitamin Water Zero, milk, juice. That's it. I have no caffeine at all. May 12th will be my 1 year bandaversary. I can't wait to see where I will be at that time.

Your doing terrific! I'm 10 months out and about 10 lbs from goal. My body is content here. After a 3 month stall, it has finally started to move again. I have read where a few people have continued to lose after meeting their goal, and had to up their calories. I don't believe that I will be one of those people, cause my body likes the cushion...Good luck and God Bless!
-
Good luck hun, you can do it! 10 pounds are nothing compared where you were before! sometimes a stall is good a body needs time to adjust and tighten, i have been through a lot of these <3 No hun you are not alone! we are all on the same boat! You can do it and reach goal, just work hard towards it... I have been lucky to lose weight without exercising (cause m overseas and gyms here are not as good) all i do is walk, but i will be back home by next week and ill sign up for a gym forsure!

Waiting for approval from BCBSND
CHM replied to Thecloude1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finally, someone else from my state! Hi there! I have BCBSND as well, and I was told that they take 10-14 days to come back with a decision. The wait was definitely difficult - obsessively checking the mailbox and jumping every time the phone rang. Mine was submitted on Dec 21, and I received my approval letter in the mail on Jan 11, but it was dated Jan 7 (I never called to see if it was actually approved before this). Mine took an extra few days due to the holidays I'm sure. I called by surgeon's office minutes after having the letter in hand and they gave me a choice surgery dates. Of course I chose the soonest! Best of luck to you. The wait will be sooooo worth it when that letter arrives! -
My office recently submitted my paperwork to CIGNA for approval. I received a decision within a day but the claim was denied due to where I’d be having the surgery. Cigna stated the location where they wanted to perform the surgery as outpatient is not on the 2019 Bariatric Center of Excellence list. I checked and the surgery center is in fact on the list. I actually had my EGD performed there and they paid that claim. I called CIGNA and the rep stated that the ruling they gave is not accurate and outdated. The rep also stated that the case manager is reaching out to my office to rectify the issue. I am frustrated but trying to remain hopeful. Has anybody ever been initially denied by CIGNA and then approved?

Why does the weight loss slow down!
sexxy219 replied to sexxy219's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sexxy219 awwwwww.......... chin up hun you are doing fine congrats on your 3 month weight loss!!!! 71 lbs down so far is great' date=' really!!!!! loosing 10 lbs in a month??? no prob here wish you had a ticker and a profile (hint, hint )so i could see how much more weight you need to lose if you don't have much more to lose you might slow down a bit with your loss - but thats ok kicking up the energy a bit, exercising more is always good - but i wouldn't kick up the lbs some people do that if they have been in a long stall - to "wake" up their system but your system might be "resting" a bit - don't startle it now!!! you'll reach your destination - promise!!! GOD grant me patience, just hurry up about it [/quote'] Yea I just pray I do not have a long stall!!! I'm not gonna claim it!!! I think my body is just adjusting.
