  2. First of all, make sure you are following your doctor's orders for any kind of lifting or abdominal exercises. That is super important. I started out by walking a minimum 10,000 steps a day, then stair climbing, working up to 20 flights a day. Then arm wall pushups, 3 sets of 50 reps (with hands in different positions.) 3 sets of pelvic tilts, 20 reps. Then an upper body routine using 3 lb. weights, alternating with 5 lbs, with 6 sets of 9 different exercises (10 reps) each. Wide and small arm circles both directions, 3 sets of 20 reps. I also do 3 sets of 9 different leg exercises (10 reps). Then 6 stretches, 3 sets of 30 seconds. Hope this helps a little. I found the leg exercises on line. The upper body/arm exercises were from my doctor'f office. They work all the arm and chest muscles. You can probably find some good on-line ones, The upper body, leg, and pelvic tilts also work the core and abs.
  3. Ok y'all, tell me what kind of strength training y'all are doing to tone up post WLS. I had RNY 07/22/19 and need some serious advice. My biggest problem area is of course my upper arms but i'm also needing toning in my thighs and booty.
  4. Hi. I started at 475lbs. Day of surgery, in October 2018, I was 430lbs. It’s now September 2019. I was down to 325lbs 1-2 weeks ago. I am now at 311lbs. Stalled for a couple months, stopped taking protien drinks. Started dropping again.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Very soon I plan on going through what’s left of last winters stuff and I can’t wait to finish getting rid of it. CONGRATS on leaving Lane Bryant in the rear-view. Today I put on size 10 pants and a medium top to go to work and it feels AMAZING.

    The WORST Loser

Hi! New to this but hoping this forum will help. I am 3 mos post op VSG and I am the worst loser! My starting weight on surgery day was 286 lbs (my heighest weight was 312 lbs). At 8 weeks, I had lost 16 lbs. That doesn't seem like much? I did have a 10 period of constipation that put me in the ER for 7 hours one day. And I didn't eat anything at all for 3 days during that time. But since then, I've actually gained 3 lbs at my 3 mos. checkup last week. My surgeon was genuinely disappointed and surprised. One of my problems is that NOTHING bothers my stomach - I can literally eat anything. And quantity seems to be a non-issue as well. And I've definitely fallen off the wagon tracking. SO - I need to get back on track NOW. I didn't do the surgery to allow this to happen to me. Any help is appreciated!!

    The Maintenance Thread

A maintenance update and some observations (I'm 10 months post op, been maintaining for 3 months now) MFP tells me I'm averaging about 1600-2200 cals a day for the past 4 weeks (2238, 1652, 1949, 2231), and my weight has basically bounced around between 114-117 during this time. So it looks like I've found my sweet spot if I want to stay at this weight. MFP also tells me I"m averaging about 90-140g of net carbs a day for the past 4 weeks (140, 90, 80, 100). Given my weight stability, I may not be a carb sensitive as I thought. I do however notice more bloating in my lower abdomen and face since I've upped the carbs. This is both a good thing and bad thing, I figure. The bloating in my tummy gives the illusion of abs and firmness, lol. But the bloating in my face is actually a welcome thing: personally, I think I look healthier, and my skin looks firmer on my cheeks and under my eyes. I starting to slack off on portioning my food. I have noticed that I am getting overfull (that leads to foamies and barfing) more often than before because I am not being vigilant about pre-portioning my food. I am also noticing that I am eating faster than before, which again leads to foamies and barfing. I need to be more careful. Finally, I'm totally noticing the changes of my almost daily strength training has done to my arms. I am getting pretty toned! Yay! What about the other maintainers out there? How you guys doing?
  10. 5'2", ♀️10m PO, maintaining 116.9 lbs this morning Back from another impromptu road trip, with some unrestrained eating...surprised to have maintained my weight more or less, I was totally prepared for a gain due to the food choices I've been making the past few days. Here are the calorie counts since Thursday, and detailed menu from yesterday. Yesterday was a had people over for lunch and and after dinner which we basically spent at the table chatting and eating, so I was literally eating non-stop from noon until 2am. Also got to 8k yesterday! I really wanted to get to 10, but had to take the Kid to a Dr. appointment, so ran out of time...didn't run this morning as I went to Yoga, so I'll try for the 10K again tomorrow. 11. Hi guys, I am on a 2 week liver shrinkage diet, i am four days in and am suffering a lot of what i assume is hunger pain. Is this normal ? I knew it was not going to be easy in anyway, shape or form and i will carry on regardless but at times the pain has been a 7 out of 10 Also does it ever stop? I kinda expected to struggle for a couple of days and then sort of get used to it. Maybe i am wishful thinking on that one lol.

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

    I am also 10/28!
  13. I am 6 weeks post sleeve. Today I had extensive hemroid surgery. My hope is that I will heal quickly and my body will get back to loosing weight. I am getting water and protein in. First 2 weeks post sleeve I lost 15 pounds. Past month I have lost 3-4 pounds. Does this seem low? Could constipation be contributing to slow lost? GVS 210 7/23/19 CW. 192 New_Me 2019
  14. Ok... slightly depressed. I’m aware the hormones are at work. Just needed to remind myself. Snapping at family when I didn’t need to be. I’m not getting out much but I should probably push myself a bit. Today my stomach has been uneasy because I ate something last night I shouldn’t have. 19 days out I’m paying for it. I piece of a sushi roll!! Omg.. tasted like the best of anything I have ever tasted but I learned a lesson. Now is not the time. Have you felt down after surgery & what do you do to switch it around?

    September 2019 🍂🍁

Hi all! I’m scheduled for a gastric bypass on 19 September! Both excited and terrified! But all positive vibes :)
  17. I had the sleeve surgery in 2015 i lost about 70lbs, then my Gerd came back with a vengence plus i had a hiatal hernia. I gained all my weight back and i decided to give it another try and revise my sleeve to gastric bypass. I'm so glad i did. My surgery was 7/25/19 and after my surgery my doctor told my sister that this surgery was necessary because once he got in there he had to do major repair from the sleeve surgery that was done as well as repair the hernia. He told her he understood why the sleeve was not successful. even though this is a weight loss surgery, for me it was more medical and i will still get the pleasure of losing the excess weight. So far I've lost 30lbs. I have no regrets. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Thanks for the feedback everyone! @FluffyChix I've decided against doing an arm lift at this point. They just don't bother me enough to be worth the scar, and additional recovery time. I figure as I age they will get worse, so maybe I'll reconsider in 10 years or so.

  20. I'm actually considering a second VSG. I don't want anything more than that. I'm totally ticked at myself for getting over 200 again. My HW: 271.2 //SW: 252 (Dec. 3, 2013) // LW: 180 (Jan 2017). [I'm not an exerciser.] In the past two years, I've gained 25 pounds--admittedly eating a bit fast, some bad carbs, and I'm just grazing. Grr. SO, 2019: I'm hanging out ~ 205-208. I NEVER wanted to be out of Onederland. I'm ticked. I sometimes do media work, so my face is rounder than I want; and I've had to find something to wear (size 14 or ?), etc. I was having so much fun just grabbing clothes (size 10-12) and being confident, photos--sure!, etc. Also, I'm planning some bucket list trips and I want to be sexy, comfy, confident, etc. Not self-conscious re: my weight. Granted, I'm NOT back to 210, 230, 250, 270; I get that. But ...? Other things in my life, I've conquered and excelled at those: Focus...do it...done! Weight, and weight loss? Not my thing. lol .. [NO, not lol. Grr. Dang. F*** :-)] So I'm considering a re-do VSG or those reasons. I'd love to hear what others are doing if they've regained more than just 5 or 7 pounds. [If I regain 20 pounds after five more years, I'll be nearing 70, so I won't worry about it then. WTH.]
  21. My surgery was 8/19/19 & at this point I also can drink water & all clear liquids normally with no issues. Here’s the ricotta bake I made. . https://www.food.com/recipe/shellys-baked-ricotta-324036 I did use lighter cheeses. I served it to everyone at home over pasta with sauce & mine was puréed. Everyone really enjoyed it! I’m loving tuna salad puréed & chili with cheese! Enjoy your puréed stage.
  22. Hi, got my Acute Care Nurses hat on here. Any pain that cannot be easily relieved with over the counter medication definitely needs investigation. And looking through these boards this does not seem to be a side effect that is common with other members. The pain sounds quite severe and I would really recommend you get it checked out, preferably when it is happening. How long does it last, what score do you give it out of 10, do you have any kind of fever with it? Bowels do get blocked and can twist etc and that is a very very serious issue if it happens, although normally it would be ongoing and wouldn't stop so even though it is very unlikely to be that you really MUST get checked out and sorted. It may well be that your bowel is just having spasms and even though I say 'just' spasming, it can be incredibly painful. It does sound like spasms, but I always say much better to get checked out and know that even though it is very painful it is not serious. Keep us updated on how you go
  23. I've lost 94# so far and my shoe size has gone from a 10 to a 9.5...not a big difference, but I can feel the new looseness. Even the padding on my toes and sole are gone. One exciting thing is that my legs, especially calves, are so thin now that for the first time in decades I can wear stylish knee-high boots!! Previously my calves were too large to zip a boot up, but now I can also zip them over a pair of pants. So happy! This surgery has made even the small things in life such a joy! 😊
  24. My date is 10/1 too! I am going through the same thing - excited and nervous all at the same time. I am also consumed and cannot stop reading and watching YouTube videos on everything related to WLS surgery. I am set for RNY and it cannot come soon enough. I really hope that this tool will help be able to live again!
  25. I had VSG on 8/6/19 (1 month ago! Yay!). I’ve lost 33 lbs just this month (56 since starting dieting pre-surgery). I have PCOS (controlled for a while with meds and now in menopause), but also hypothyroidism and type II diabetic. My fasting sugar on the morning of my surgery was 167 (not my highest, mind you), and it hasn’t been over 100 since my surgery. In fact, it’s been in the 70s a couple times this week and my endocrinologist has just taken me off my nightly synjardy. Just taking it in am until I see him on 9/20. Not on my victoza either. It’s amazing!!!!!!!!!
