  1. Congrats on your appointment Maureen! I'm 3 months post op & I don't think there's anything I can't eat. I haven't tried bread, other than low carb wraps & those are absolutely fine. Honesty I went into this thinking I was giving up like, idk all sorts of things. I really thought, I'd never be able to eat them again. And even 3 months out I'm realizing that's not going to be true for me. Nothing has made me sick. This has all been super smooth sailing for me. That said, it means it's really up to me to say NO to all sorts of things. If that makes any sense? Like I sorta thought if I ate sugar or something, I'd be horribly sick like many of the members of this site. I haven't tested sugar much, but I had a tablespoon or two of creme brûlée at one point, I was fine. I've had halo top a couple times, I was fine. So far, I've had chicken, steak, ground beef, turkey sausage. All has been absolutely fine. Oh pizza! I have had pizza since surgery. Probably 10 weeks post op? I had a serving about the size of a slice of bread & I was fine. Is it something I'm purposely eating on a regular basis, no. I was at a thing & that was what was served. I haven't had alcohol or soda since surgery. Neither of them means anything to me so it's no hardship on me not to have them. I drink a lot of coffee & my doctor is fine with it. I also use straws - he's fine with that as well. You'll find a lot of varying opinions about that here. All in all, I feel exactly the same as I did before - in a good way. I don't really feel like much has changed for me except my stomach is much smaller & I eat much less. It's still up to me to make smart choices, but it's MUCH easier for me to do that with a stomach this small.

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Thank you. Insurance approval did not come through in time. Rescheduled for October 10.
  3. I am a SLOW LOSER. Have been no matter what I tried since I hit my 30's. For the image that GradyCat posted..for the starting weight of '300-400'....I've been roughly on target for the smallest weight loss of the possible 'ranges'. i.e. at 10 days out I may have even been less than projected..maybe 7-8 lbs For 6 weeks out - I was at about 22 or 23 lbs. This is with no cheating, no big calorie intake on any day and with increased physical activity. Some others that I follow that had similar starting weight as I did (or roughly similar weight at time of surgery) and are within + or - 7 years of my current age, have ALL blown away what I've managed to do by leaps and bounds. They lost more like at the high end of the ranges. I wish it was different for me, but I keep continuing to work on NOT being disappointed. Who knows, maybe with me losing more slowly, when some of my 'faster losing' friends....if they start to 'peter out a bit'..maybe mine will keep being continual. In other words, maybe 1 to 2 years out, if we stick to what we know we should be doing, our losses may match more closely (assuming similar physical activity as well). I know that the way I was going, I was staying stagnant and then gaining lbs here and there and at almost 400 lbs, I was on a fast track to what is almost...like a slow death blow to my body..bit by bit. Also, I lost 45-50 lbs on previous 15 months of keto WOL before I ever walked into a surgeon's office. Before I ever started any 'pre-op diet' and my body was VERY stubborn in shedding the weight during those 15 months even when I was HEAVY into ketosis (based on the urine strips). Decades of yo-yo dieting, etc. seem to have just turned my thermostat to 'OFF'. It is up to me to reignite it and for ME, that means I have to be more active - not just having an RNY. I had been walking with my daughter & noticed that was adding an extra lb a wk loss which may not seem like much but over a year that is 52 EXTRA lbs lost from just walking 3 times a wk.

  6. You have lost 36 lbs in 2 months?! Congratulations!!! I’m obsessed with reading and watching everything I can. I will admit my eating lately isn’t perfect and I’m working on fixing that. I did quite well in the first month but this past month not so much. I have major some major changes that I have stuck to...quit coffee, no more drinking alcohol (was a social drinker) and I have introduced protein shakes into my life. I am scheduled for rny on 10/15. I’m only down 5 from my first appointment in July. It was 9... You are doing GREAT!
  7. Oh sorry was doing 10 things at once I meant if you increase the calorific value of the food you are eating your weight will start to maintain rather than eating more food and potentially stretching your pouch, which may be a problem later on So even adding a little bit more fat to each meal you eat will bump the calories up

Scared of loosing too much weight!

I don’t know your statistics but I don’t think you really need to be worried about this. I found this thread because unlike many people have stated; I have had a completely different experience. I’ll leave it at that for now. But I don’t think you need to concern yourself too much about losing too much. Every time I would lose 10 pounds I would feel “skinny“ and it was an adjustment getting used to seeing myself that way. I am currently trying to slow or stop my weight loss but there is no one in my surgery “group” experiencing this but myself...

    10/23! feels like forever away.
  11. I've been doing to the docs since July 24 (first appointment was made in June, but, as we all know, it's a waiting game). I have my endo (re)scheduled to 10/3 (the first facility didn't take my insurance 😠) and my pre-op with my primary on 9/30. My surgery is set (as along as all tests are good), for 10/28/19. I've lost 36 plus pounds on my own. I watch everything that goes into my mouth and I exercise. I also obsessively go on this site and facebook grounds about bariatric surgery and watch my 600-lb life when I'm not feeling motivated enough (I will tend to go for a nice, long walk after seeing their struggles). I read stuff every day. I feel like I'm obsessed! The date seems so far, yet so close. What is everyone else doing to prepare for the big day?

    December Sleeve Date!

Oh my, that will be interesting. Will you have a kitchen on vacation? My date is Dec 10 provided I have insurance approval. I start my preop diet 2 days prior to Thanksgiving. No last Thanksgiving pig-outs for us!
  13. I ran across this video which has a pair of pants with Velcro in the waistband that can get you through a few sizes: https://youtu.be/oTxDpaYeuEw Starting at minute 7:19. I was wondering if any of you sew and can share pattern numbers that have worked best for you as you have lost weight?

  15. I will be having my gastric sleeve converted to the RNY hopefully, in December. I was told by my provider that they never had to get the authorization up front with Medicare. She said they submitted the letter of medical necessity with the claim when they filed and they never had any problems. I believe that Medicare has guidelines you must follow in order for them to cover my procedure. The problem is I'm not overweight, but I'm being revised due to spontaneous reflux. Everything I eat the majority of it comes back up. I definitely have the medical necessity. In my doctor's notes he states that I am malnourished and not receiving the nutrients I need to sustain life. So, basically if I don't have the procedure I'm not going to live a lot longer. My BC/BS of AL will not cover it because I had the original procedure out of the country and didn't follow insurance guidelines that are typical for WLS. I had other insurance at the time I had the surgery. The surgery was done probably 10 years before I became effective with BC/BS of AL. I've contacted Medicare to see if they would cover and was told yes if medically necessary. Since the self pay is a lot, I want to feel warm and cozy on the idea of the surgery being covered by Medicare. Has anyone had the revision due to complications only and Medicare cover? Thanks!

  18. You have both my sympathy and empathy . I started my own journey August 15 2015, finally had my RNY surgery September 5th 2018, after I went through Surgeon #1 ' s program not once but twice, lost my job 5 months in so had to Do Everything a Second time with different insurance coverage, then He Had the Audacity to "kick me to the curb" because He No Longer had desires to perform My Surgery. Had to re-group, find a Surgeon worthy of my Trust, 6 months after enrolling I had my long-desired Surgery at the Age of 72 years 8 months 10 days, It Really Was A Day of Rebirth, made my life Turn Good and I will never regret all that went BEFORE. because it made Me strong, it made healthier, it made Me one-half the size I once was- annd my life will be longer, my Future brighter and I can only wish such good things happen for YOU TOO! But No Matter What- You have a Friend and Admirer in ME!

    Non Scale Victories

Great feeling, eh? I am 23 months post-surgery. 15 months ago, I took 19 bags of clothes (9XL, 8XL, 7XL, 6XL, 5XL and 4XL) to the charity shop to help needy people who were big plus sizes. Currently around XL or 2XL depending on brand and fit ... so contemplating when to get rid of a few remaining 4XL and 3XL garments. I keep the track pant bottoms as I can slip them on for the pool or the gym despite their bagginess but I not how much the "swim" on my smaller body now!

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

Definitely apple cider. I’m so frustrated. Just checked the weather forecast and we’re at 90+ degree days for at least another 10 days. Guess we can have fall in October?
  21. Wow. Just found this. I too have Aetna and they did a VERY similar thing to me. Thankfully I found out they weren’t going to cover my initial place just 3 months into the process, but I had to start all over again right around this time last year. I started right after July 4th at bariatric clinic #1 last year and had to switch in late September and then didn’t get approved until mid-January 2019. Had surgery on 2-6-19 (7 months after starting the journey) and I felt so “behind” and “cheated” of time. There are still days where I tell myself that I’d be at goal by now if I’d only been able to have my sleeve in early November 2018, but the important thing is I got there eventually. Hang in there, do the steps, and take advantage of the extra time to research and work on your head game before surgery day.

    Tricare anyone?

I have tricare! It was actually much easier than I anticipated. After my surgeons office got my referral their ins coordinator called me. She told me that tricare would approve based on BMI over 40, I could have even been approved at a 35 simple because of sleep apnea. Ohh how I wish I knew that a few years ago. Tricare requires a 4 month weightloss trial, the ins coordinator told me tricare does not actually require you to lose weight just to basically answer yes to all the questions -are you parking further away than needed - are you putting your fork down between each bite etc. I scheduled all 4 of my appointments to be at approx the same time and I fluctuated just a little down, up down. During my 4 month wait I had my first appt with surgeon to decide which surgery to have and had my nutrition class as well as my individual appt with dietician. After my last weight appt the end of June, I had to wait for a few more tests to come back for the surgeon, they came back the beginning of July and they submitted my packet to tri-care. Less than a week later I was approved due to timing for someone to be with me after surgery I couldn't have my surgery in July even though it was offered. I finally had it done on Aug 19. Now the difference is I do have sleep apnea and high blood pressure but again, my insurance coordinator told me just being over 40 bmi was enough. I would talk to your surgeons insurance coordinator to see what they say hopefully you are still in a Mil area where they are all accustomed to using tricare and their rules. That made it so much easier for me. The process went really really quickly for me and I was terrified tricare would randomly deny me. We are tricare prime retired and even with that I was approved. GL and if you have any questions just message me, I will answer them to the best of my ability.
