BMI 38 they want 40. is that IT for me...am i DONE?

Thank you for the reply...actually i DO have sleep apnea, asthma, and high blood pressure...all of which my doctor believes is related to my weight gain. So should i just contact him and have him resubmit the paperwork?

    protein bars?

I haven't found any Protein Bars that are high protein, low carb, so I haven't taken to eating them. If you are tired of them, then by all means you should switch. Can you not get in your protein by eating meat, cheese, eggs etc? Also, look here http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ . she has great protein rich recipes. I'd say the weight gain is from TOM - I gain about 5 lbs . oh well, c'est la vie!
  3. Hey everyone- I got authorized to start working out last week from my doctor. I'm three weeks post op and have been going to the gym every other day. I noticed a 1lb weight gain this morning. Now I'm worried if I keep working out, will it slow down my weight loss? Should I hold off for a bit? I'm also coming up on the 3 week stall so I'm just thinking about everything. Based on your experiences , what have you determined about working out?
  4. I have read that having your gallbladder removed can cause weight gain has anyone experienced this at all or any changes in digestion?
  5. @@Pinkberry2 I don't believe weight gain can be associated with gallbladder removal.
  6. Sure, you can gain it back. As was stated above, it will depend upon your eating habits. If you do not work to overcome the causes of your weight gain to begin with, then you will gain weight. I have been sitting at the same weight for a few months now and I know it has more to do with my stress related eating habits than anything else. Pull myself out of it, get back to something healthy and exercise more, that's what will get me back on track. I met a woman a few months ago who told me she had had the bypass surgery 12 years ago. She seemed happy with where she was (good for her!) but my visual assessment of her classified her as obese, if not morbidly obese. With the sleeve, I doubt we will get back to our morbid obesity stages, but I can see it as being possible. If all you do to get your calories is drink them (mocha's, milkshakes, etc) then no weight loss regimen is going to work for you, whether it's diet or surgery.
  7. As others have stated, this is an extremely personal decision that only you and your husband can make. (well, and your surgeon if you go for surgery first, since many require 2 years, but you'd want to know what your specific surgeon has to say about it). Since you did follow up and ask specifically what we would do - personally, if I was healthy enough to conceive and carry a child before surgery, I would do that. If I had 'baby fever' now, it would be excruciating to wait to have surgery (especially if there was a 6 month diet, like my insurance requires), then 2 more years on top of that (as my surgeon would require). Then, time to conceive, 9 more months until delivery, etc. I also have a fear of regain post-surgery, so I'd rather be done with intentional weight gain, like with pregnancy, before having surgery so there won't be any other instances looming in my future where I KNOW I'll need to gain some weight. But again, this is an extremely personal decision and only you know what's right for you. Good luck with whatever you decide!

    Getting enough calories

I agree, something here does not make sense at all. I wonder if you either have a serious medical condition or a serious eating disorder. You are the only person that can actually make yourself eat and timely. It has to become your priority if you want to stay healthy in the long term. With RNY you really do get your hunger back, I am not sure why that hasn't happened for you but I am guessing when you are hungry, you are ignoring it because you are busy. If you don't want to keep dropping weight you need to pay attention and act on it. It sounds like you can pretty much eat whatever you want without the repercussions of weight gain. The only issue is some foods you dump on and others that would likely make you dump, you don't. I will say that I have met many RNY patients who still dump many many years later so I am not convinced at all that ever stops completely. They just learn how to live with it differently. The same is true about the malabsorption factor. I met a guy that had RNY 15 years ago. He eats small meals all day long because his body still malabsorbs. He looks great, still has a lot of restriction which requires that he eats small amounts all day long. I know my pouch is definitely on the small side which means to get to my Protein count and about 1000 calories a day, I have to eat 3 good meals a day and snack in between. I have to really concentrate when I eat or I might just eat a tiny amount and be hungry a short time later.
  9. I don't think they've ever distinguished whether the weight gain is from people having an increased appetite or actual changes in your body that prevents you from losing weight anyway. I'm not too worried about it, just curious on other experiences. Seeing that most patients are on anti-depressants isn't too surprising either.
  10. after a fill I do liquid for that day, then mushy for a day maybe two then back to solids. my doctor said the longer you stay on soft foods the harder it will be to get back on solids. he basically said by the 4th day his patients should be eating. remember mushy foods go thru the band easier and therefore you can eat a lot more of them which can cause weight gain. p.s. this was a good poll!
  11. I love all the information I have found on this site and all the help I have received and I can't wait till I'm banded to be able to help others but until then I can help others hopefully in this area....... May 2006 when I lost a lot of weight from Phentermine I had a hanging tummy . If I was naked it would be down to my pubic area. I had Tricare at the time and they denied twice to pay for it so I went ahead and self-pay. I think it was 5k, maybe not that much even. Anyways..... I got down to 180 and felt that I can resume that weight after the Tummy Tuck...WRONG!:tt1: For about 2 months I maintained that weight but I had to switch medications and my eating habits were worse then before so the weight just came back full force! Now I am about 65 pounds heavier and decided to get my life back on track. I hope to be getting the lap band end of Feb or early March. I refuse to go through my whole Tummy Tuck process to just get it back! I refuse to do that! Here's pictures of me. PictureTrail If I could be any help please let me know. Oh and I love my new Tummy even with this new weight gain. Best 5k I ever spent!!!!!!!
  12. you are me. I'm 9 weeks out. I had no other issues outside of PCOS (on the verge of diabetes). I have impeccable eating habits as well. Any more weight gain could have pushed me into a whole different territory. I wanted to be around for my kids like my eating habits show. Surgery has helped me lose almost 50 lbs in just 9 weeks. You have to be ready though and their is no shame in changing your mind. It's such a personal decision. I can say for me I thought I was happy and confident prior to surgery, but my actual weightloss has revealed something completely different. I'm truly finding myself now.
  13. Hi.... My name is Yelitza and I'm a type 1 diabetic. I have been a diabetic for 29 years. I've been on the insulin pump for 7 years. My weight prior to the pump ranged between 170-190 lbs. I'm 5'8". Ever since I've been on the pump my weight has been creeping up on me slowly. My highest weight was 258 on April 2 which was my first office visit with the bariatric surgeon. I'm currently at 242 with the help of trulicity. My endo has been talking to me about my weight gain for the past three years. I was on victoza prior and lost 30 pounds. I stopped taking it because I felt it wasn't having the same affect on me gained the weight that i had lost plus 15 lbs more. Now I have decided to take control of this addiction I have to food. I'm on my second of four visits that's mandated of my insurance for the surgery. I decided to get the sleeve because I feel I need restriction of how much I'm eating. My third visit is set for june 30. Then I'll have my last visit some time in july and then I will be on my way to get scheduled for a date for surgery. Hopefully by the end of August...fingers crossed!!! I'm excited yet scared...excuse me petrified...lol I have been carrying this extra weight and a burden along with it. I'm depressed, moody, exhausted and miserable. I WANT TO LIVE LIFE AGAIN... A HEALTHY ONE. My A1C is currently at 11. Before the pump I was at a 14. Then a year with the pump I got down to an 8 but it along with the weight has been creeping up. Well just gave you my whole life story... Lol.. Just wanna say thank you to all who post. I've been reading these forums for a couple of months now helping me make my decision.
  14. Hello! I just wanted to pop in with a few updates. My husband is doing very well! They had him up and walking today, and he managed to do a full lap around the floor (a total of about 150ft) 3 times, which is apparently a big deal. In addition, they were able to take all drainage tubes out so he is feeling MUCH better. There is a possibility he may even get to come home on Friday! He is already getting up from the bed/chair with minimal assistance, and using the rest room on his own. It truly is a wonder how far we have come in medical field. My mom has decided to basically move in next week and the week after to help. I have to work next week to train my coverage for my own surgery, which at this point I am proceeding with. If he struggles this weekend, I will definitely push it out. Now for the not so great news... living off hospital food has caused me to gain 4lbs. They had very little gluten free options (unless I wanted wilted salad) and so in addition to the weight gain I have stomach pain too. Joy. Thankfully I have at most 2 days left, then I am putting myself on a liquid diet next week in hopes of losing those 4lbs I just put on Once again, I wish to thank you all for your kindness and support. It has been an immense help to me by keeping me distracted during this chaotic time. Kind regards, Kay
  15. Merry Christmas everyone. I've gained 5 pounds since being banded on 12/21. Anyone experience this?
  16. I feel like surgery puts us at our most vulnerable. You know how folks say that weight gain is an outward representation of an inner issue... the surgery goes RIGHT TO THE CORE of that issue and forces us to work on it. I feel way more exposed right now than I did before surgery. Losing my safe cocoon of fat where I became invisible is almost terrifying to me. How long is your husband deployed? He might not recognize you when he comes back.
  17. For us folks just starting out on an exercise regimen, there is a nasty little surprise: Weight stall or gain. It's all over the internet. I've been on 3 very strenuous hikes and they have caused me to gain a couple pounds immediately after. I know I'm healthier, but it's disconcerting. I have been reading fitness articles like this one and the articles on the right hand side of the article below. They are all about weight gain and exercise: http://www.livestrong.com/article/378472-why-am-i-gaining-weight-with-exercise/ Now they make a very good point. We should be all about fat-loss as opposed to weight-loss. They also say in some of the other articles that the high intensity exercise that I prefer may not be the best for me because of anaerobic verses aerobic training and a host of other factors like Water retention, muscle mass and glycogen storage. It's just not as simple as burning more calories than you take in. I walk everyday and hike on the weekends. Should I increase my daily workouts? Decrease my weekend workouts? Mix it up more or stay on the same schedule? Increase the mileage and intensity of the hikes? Decrease it? I honestly do not know what to do.
  18. The first 6 months I raised my endurance level by walking. I decided to step it up a notch and I've been spinning 4 times this past week and I just noticed I've gained 4lbs. Please tell me it is temporary!

    Gained 2 pounds!

First you aren't low carbing if you are eating chips. Not at all. You are naming off what you eat but leaving out the chips? what is your real food log like? If you keep eating chips you are going to keep gaining. Chips break down to nothing. I could easily eat a whole family size bag in one sitting if I wanted to. When you are low carbing you have basically no glycogen in your system. As soon as you eat carbs your liver starts filling up with glycogen again. Instant basically over night weight gain. Weigh your food, track your food. This is the easiest weight loss is ever going to be for you in your life. Work with your sleeve, not against it.
  20. Well... My band didn't really fail... I went from 278 to 214 and I was still losing a lb here and there but I didn't like all that came along with the band. I'm very active and every time I hiked or worked out my port was very sore. Also my band was very in consistent. One day I could eat a salad and the next I would not be able to get the same salad down. My band did not slip and I did not gain weight back but I never felt good with the band. Also my husband and I got married in September and I had a lot of concerns with getting pregnant with the band and the possibility of a prolapse or slippage during morning sickness. A few months ago I basically had my band unfilled and I decided the discomfort wasn't worth keeping the band in. So I had the band removed and the sleeve done to prevent weight gain per my surgeons advice.

    Alone in TampaBAY

Hi, my name is Melinda and I live in Eugene, OR. I am 54 and would be delighted to be your cyber buddy. Hopefully my surgery will be in October also. I have struggled with my weight for the last twenty years and now have developed the usual co-morbidities; sleep apnea, HTN well controlled though, arthritis--already have had both knees replaced, prediabetic and have degenerative disc disease in my lower spine There is strong obesity on my mother's side--she struggled all of her life with her weight. I have a cousin who had a bypass four years ago and has done very well, Her sister weighs probably close to 350-400 and is slowly losing her life and her mobility. My cousin who had the bypass is an RN and she suggested that I consider the band several years ago. I began to research it seriously this year but did not attend a seminar until the end of April. I met with the surgeon on May 26th and started my dietary consultations in late June. I have to have three months but will go more if needed. The surgeon has had the surgery and has lost around 70 pounds over two years. I have also been attending the clinic's support group and have been following this website for about six weeks now. I feel so much better following the high Protein and ldow carb diet that they suggested that I follow. I still need to lose ten pounds before surgery. I am weak on exercise but am seriously trying to improve and have. I go to the gym at least twice a week but need to make it four to five. They offer Water aerobics and I am going to attempt that.. I just started on the treadmill but have been riding a stationary bike for several years now. I like to walk when the weather allows and have purchased a raincoat for this next rainy season. I was on prednisone for too many years and thus the weight gain. But I have to take ownership and admit that I eat for comfort and out of boredom.. If I had known what I know now, I would have starved myself while on prednisone. It makes me so ravenous. I probably would have said to my rheumatologist maybe I have been on it too long. They finally discontinued it in 2008 after I had a psychotic reaction. Since then I have been in a world of hurt and I can't take anti inflammatory drugs anymore after I developed ulcers. They have since healed. I am just not able to lose weight anymore. I have done WW every year since 2008 but without much success. I would love to be of support to you. I hope I haven't made this too long. Please write back when you can. All the best to you, Melinda Hohenberger Email me at mhohenberger@gmail.com Thanks

    Day after surgery

Today I had a one pound weight gain. Fortunately, I knew that I would have a gain right after surgery because of the fluids they pump in you and the swelling at the surgery site. I felt pretty miserable last night and took a narcotic tablet that we had leftover from some back pain awhile back. My doctor doesn't prescribe narcotics...just an NSAID and I'm already on some of those (Voltarin) for my rheumatoid arthritis. This morning, I took 1/2 tablet and feel a little better. I'm wondering how much weight I will have to lose to go down a size? I just bought (online) a shirt to wear for Thanksgiving that is in my current size (but tight right now). I hope it literally hangs on me! We'll see...

    No Smoking = More Eating

I just wanted to say that about 3 years ago I quit smoking and, without changing my eating habits, I gained weight...weight gain is very common when you quit smoking...hang in there you'll be okay!!! Try a hobby if you feel the need to munch on something...I took up crocheting and painting...anytime I feel hungry for a snack I start crocheting and then I don't want to stop Good luck
