    Hi everyone

Yes, it is. It’s one of the benefits of the surgery though not every experiences a lack or hunger &/or disinterest in eating/food. I didn’t feel hungry or interested in eating for months. My real hunger didn’t truely start to come back until into my second year. I found I had to eat to a schedule to ensure I ate & got in good nutrition & met my goals. Some days I couldn’t eat everything I was supposed to but other days it was a struggle but it seems to balance out. It did help change how I looked at food & eating though - eat to live not live to eat - which was a big win. PS - Congrats on your weight loss so far.
  2. I don’t think I will ever lose enough weight to make my cushion go away there. they do make butt pads though. They are like shorts with pads sewn in. 😂
  3. I believe these types of opinions should be kept private. However, this remark motivated me to buy a smart scale weight. I had a simple one in my house. However, the one I bought had so many functions like full-body measurements or how much water I should drink during the day. Before that, I was very ignorant about my health, and I ate whatever I found in my pantry. Because of that scale, my body and life changed in the best way possible. Even with everything that happened after one remark, I still think it's impolite to call someone fat or chubby.
  4. It was very hard at first. Especially post op when I couldn’t cook and they got takeout. When I felt up to cooking again, I first cooked only meals that I could eat, too. Our whole family could stand to eat healthier, and if they didn’t like it, they could make something on their own. Turns out my husband has also lost weight and his bloodwork is better, so he credits me. Our children are growing up with healthier food choices, so it’s a win-win! Now, I sometimes cook meals that I can’t eat, and it doesn’t bother me, but only if there are leftovers that I can eat.

    Hi everyone

Hello and welcome in the forum, Congrats on your weight loss so far. Yes its very normal to not feel hungry. The part of your stomach that sends the hungry signals has been cut away. Until it heals and knits together we are in happy land. I am 2 weeks shy of six months out and I still never feel hungry. We are the lucky ones. It must feel awful to be hungry and only eat tiny amounts or have to suffer shakes that go straight out of the stomach.

    Hi everyone

Yes it is normal for some to not feel hungry at all and there isn’t really anything you can do about it. As someone who is over a year out and the hunger hormones have returned though, I say enjoy it while it lasts. It will never be easier to lose weight than it is for you right now. Of course you have to be sure to take care of yourself and get in your requirements which isn’t much fun when you aren’t hungry but as the pounds continue to shed that should motivate you to keep up with the plan.

Tendonitis, Rotator Cuffs, and Changed Physiology

I just found this topic and I can relate. I have had frozen shoulder in both left and right in the past 2 years. I am coming up on my 5 year surgery anniversary this month and never connected the problem. My doctor told me this is a fairly common issue if you have type 2 diabetes and hashimoto thyroid. Thankfully both shoulders are better now but it sure was painful and limited my range of motion. I wonder if it is related to losing weight?

Water Retention on Pre Op Liquid Diet

The liver reducing diet is not really designed to make us lose weight anyways. Some people (especially those who were already on another diet) do not lose much at all and The doctors don’t seem concerned with that. The size of the liver is all that they care about in terms of a safe surgery which is the reason for that diet.

    Can't Decide!

This was my reasoning for choosing the sleeve as well, even though I have significant GERD and am aware the sleeve can make this worse. I take several medications that are extended release formulations and my doctor said that the pouch formed with the RNY really couldn't metabolize XR formulations correctly, and these aren't medicines I'm likely to stop taking with weight loss. So it was simple in that regard. Sometimes making a pros and cons list helps @Veritas34! It sounds simple but that also helped me see that the slightly higher weight loss percentage wasn't enough of a reason for me to go ahead with the RNY. But everyone's reasons will be different. Listing may help you come up with some questions for your surgeon! Best of luck!
  10. I was revised January 2021, and 1 year out I had lost 105 lbs. Revision weight was 295, high weight (pre-sleeve) 365. I am currently 195. I just finished treatment for uterine/ovarian cancer and oncologist told me to not actively try to lose weight, but I have lost over 30 pounds since the diagnosis.

Water Retention on Pre Op Liquid Diet

You’ll probably pee out your PMT water retention in a couple of days so it won’t have any real impact on your weight when you have your surgery. Plus, your medical team understand how our bodies work. All the best with your surgery.

    Can't Decide!

I believe the average weight loss for bypass is 65% & sleeve is 60% of the weight you were to lose at the 3year mark. Which is a pretty negligible difference. Bypassers tend to lose more quickly at the beginning but that is no guarantee of how fast you will lose at first as we all lose at our own rate & everyone’s rate of loss slows as you get closer to your goal. You can have a bypass & still be a slow loser & vice versa. My surgeon went through each surgery, pros & cons, but recommended the sleeve based upon my weight loss & gain history, my basic diet & eating habits, & general health which is where I was leaning anyway. You’ll lose weight regardless of the surgery you chose if you work the program. I exceeded my goal with a sleeve but there are factors beyond your control, like genetics, which play a big part in where you’ll end up. Like you will lose more & faster simply because of your gender.
  13. I totally feel your pain. I weighed 194 pounds when I had the sleeve done in May 2017. I lost all my extra weight within the first year and kept it off until Covid. I have regained all that I lost and then some. I weigh 225 pounds now. I have gained 100 pounds! I am so embarrassed by it that I refuse to visit family or friends.
  14. I had the same symptoms as ms.sss. At 3 & 1/2 months on Thanksgiving, I tried Ben and Jerry’s lactose free ice cream. I had 1/4 cup and it hit me half an hour later, maybe less. I’m finding any sugar/carby food can trigger it, or sometimes it’s a reactive sugar drop a few hours later. Air popped light salt popcorn triggered it last time. I was never diabetic. I find dumping does keep me on the straight and narrow which is good! If you do want to try new foods, it helps to be at home with a time block of a few hours and a protein shake to counter the sugar lows. For those who think dumping is a get out of jail free card; there’s no weight loss. There may be a slight loss sometimes, but it’s water from the both ends pushing it all out. Mostly I find I still gain weight and trigger an asthma attack from all the inflammation. I have even measured my ankles and found them to be 2-3 centimeters bigger the day after a carb incident.
  15. I’m remembering what it felt like when I miscarried. I felt like it was my fault. I felt like my body betrayed me. I felt alone because it wasn’t something you could talk about. I’m glad you said something, and I’m sorry for your loss. It wasn’t your fault, medically the offspring wasn’t viable, usually it’s chromosomal. Your body didn’t betray you, it was telling you something was wrong. As you move through your grief, I hope it brings you and your husband and family together. Treat yourself well and don’t be afraid of taking a deep reflection of your life choices. I found making small healthy goals to be helpful like brushing my teeth more, going to sleep earlier, and training for a 5k, then half marathon. Use all the healthy ritualistic habits in your back pocket, like drinking water all day or, regular prayer/meditation whatever that looks like for you. Eventually you will feel ready to tackle bigger goals like weight loss, a new career, to give meaning to the “why” of your loss. My deepest sympathies-Meg

    Psychology appt anxious

I got more questions doing a survey from my bank. I answered some basic questions. Family history etc My expectations for the weight loss. My concerns or fears of surgery or not being able to eat. If had support system and other surgeries etc that was that. 45 min of small talk. Don’t worry - they are more concerned of your attitude about a major surgery. Everyone is nervous.

    Food Before and After Photos

Ordered pizza for the kids after having a Mother’s Day photo shoot with my mom and siblings and giving her the ring my dad ordered for her before he passed away. Still managed a whopping 400 (approximate) calories for what I ate. However, I’m more shocked at the nearly 1300 calories my 7yr old (he’s below weight for his height because he never stops moving!)
  18. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss Gretchel, that's so sad for you and your husband. It sounds like you did really well after your surgery and you can definitely do that again now. When you say eating healthy do you mean that you are tracking all your macros/everything you eat? Are you eating protein first at all meals, followed by veg and then if you have room a small amount of carbs? Are you avoiding drinking for half an hour before eating and at least half an hour afterwards? If not it might be worth going back to absolute basics. If you've been in maintenance for a long time you might have got used to eating differently. Some people here have got back on track after much bigger gains than 30lbs @GradyCat and others - good on you for nipping this in the bud. You have done so well before, you can SO do that again. Best of luck.
  19. I did not but I was a lower BMI to start and was worried I would lose Just enough to not qualify for surgery and then gain it all back like I always do. Many people do though. Anything you lose now is just less you have to lose later. Plus it is a good chance to start practicing what you will be doing post surgery.
  20. : 3 I appreciate it. I'm still dealing with a lot of body dysmorphia. I def have weight to lose still but I carry most of it in my hips and lower stomach.

    Dr Sanborn - Chattanooga TN

Hi everyone. Hope you all are doing well! I complete my post op next month and hope to get insurance approval and survey date. There is a lot of turnover at Dr. Sanborn’s office so having difficulty getting responses and calls returned from my coordinator. Any suggestions? Oh - I decided to have a bypass as it will allow me to loose the most weight and I’ve been feeling some reflux. Thanks again!
  22. I am scheduled for lap band removal/DS surgery on 5/23. Starting the pre-op diet on Monday. Eeeeek!! I was banded back in 2008. I'm 5'4" and my weight before surgery was 290-something. I lost about 130 lbs in the first year, and maintained at around 165-175 (for me this weight equated to around a size 10, which I was fairly pleased with) for almost 10 years. I had a Tummy Tuck in 2016 and believe that my band was nicked when the plastic surgeon moved my port. In any case i suffered a 'slow leak' in the band that my surgeon Dr. Elariny could not pinpont, even under fluoroscopy, and have not really had any restriction for the last 5 years. I have sloooowwwwlly gained back up to 215 lbs during that time. I'm scared to death and simultaneously super excited for the DS surgery.
  23. Hi everybody! I had my surgery (Gastric sleeve) on 01/08/18. Everything went well, I was 245 lb and i went down to 128 lb. I was feeling so good, so healthy, so happy.... I got married and my life was perfectly fine! Last year, in October I found out I was pregnant... Unfortunately on December i had a miscarriage. During my short pregnancy I had to be fully in bed. I gained 30 pounds! and now I can't go back to my normal weight. I am feeling so depressed, my doctor said that he can't help me because he only help with surgeries. so, I don't know what I can do! I am eating healthy, working out... drinking water.... Can someone help me? I am so depressed.... sad... without help :(

    May 2022 surgery?

Welcome. One of my daughters (who is a doctor) freaked out months ago when I told her I was ‘merely’ thinking of this. I’m not in the mood for confrontational conversations about this. I then was diagnosed with a very large hiatal hernia. I brought up that I would be having that repaired, and I’m not mentioning the GP. She is pleased with the fact that the hernia was diagnosed and will be repaired. That’s good enough for me. I could eat nothing and walk 5 miles or more a day, and I’d probably gain weight. My son was not happy about it, researched on his own, and was very impressed with the number of years this could add to my life expectancy. His findings mirrored what my cardiologist had told me. Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted.

    Liver shrinking DIET pre-RNY

I asked the surgery coordinator the same thing when we set up the 5/16 appointment? “You want me to start now? I could be 6-7 weeks out from surgery.” She replied: “Let’s see. Your BMI really isn’t that high, you could start it after you see him on 5/16 if you want. BUT, some of our patients like to start it as far in advance as they can.” 🤷🏻‍♀️I decided to start it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It gave me a chance to find a protein drink I really like. And, truthfully, I think my surgeon things I’ll opt for a surgery date like 5/20 if it’s available. But, I’m committed to staying in school till the students are finished which is 6/8. I’m not scheduling a date prior to that. I’m fine with it. It’s been good for me to see that the numbers on the scale are going in the correct direction, and I haven’t eaten my arms off yet. 🤣😂 It’s giving me time to develop coping strategies…I’m not an emotional eater, but I will pop something into my mouth simply because it’s there for the taking. I wasn’t always like that, but when the lbs started coming in, I figured what the heck…might as well enjoy it. This week was Teacher Appreciation Week and every.single.day thete was food EVERYWHERE: candy apples 😳, burgers and fries, bagels and cream cheese, donuts, you name it. I stayed away from the myriad of places where food was spread out and kept busy and focused. My assistant is a *itch who never eats anything and this week she kept bringing plates of food into our room. I ignored her. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess I started early more for me than anything else. I’m thrilled to see I’m losing on this plan, because in the past, I could cut back, walk incessantly and actually gain a pound after a month. 🤦🏻‍♀️ This has been good for me. 🤗
