    A little sugar that bad?

I still have 1 teaspoon of sugar in my coffee every day. I couldn't find a sweetener that I liked so I've been drinking it this way since day 1 post op & my NUT is fine with that. I'm 18 weeks post op & I've lost 58 lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fish out of water

Congratulations. I had mine on Feb. 10th, so that was 3 weeks yesterday. Wow the changes in 3 weeks are unbelievable. How are you feeling? It gets better every day so hang in there. Can't wait to hear about your experience.
  4. Sighhh lord help me.. my surgeon is good looking, making me have a crush! Not married lol. Ok I need to focus. Just finished my pre-op appointment! I have to be on their diet food for 4 weeks before my surgery. I will need to lose 14lbs which should be fairly easy on this diet ha. Getting very excited for this journey!!!
  5. I was sleeved 4/26/2013 and I've been at a stall for 3 months. What's really discouraging is that the doctor told me 2 months ago that she thought I would have lost more weight by now, which is even more discouraging! I have been exercising. I have started Zumba, kickboxing, and walking. Any suggestions on how to speed up my weight loss. I'm looking good but the weight is not falling off as I expected.
  6. I am scheduled to have my surgery on the 16th! I just got approval from my insurance this past Monday, so I'm excited it's actually going to happen! But now I'm starting to get worried about after my surgery. I have a son who just turned one. I'm his primary caretaker until I start work again on July 23rd (I'm a teacher). My mom will help me the first few days during the day, and my husband will help in the evenings and on the weekend. But I'm still nervous about managing a rambunctious, newly-walking one-year-old. Advice? Suggestions? Also, am I crazy for going back to work a week after surgery? It'll just be orientation (i.e. meetings) the first week and a half.

    Surgery with a one-year-old

Congratulations on your decision and all the best to you in your procedure and recovery! I was just banded yesterday and I have a 3 year old She is VERY active and seemingly all she wants to do is attempt to ram into me head first into my tummy. My mother in law and my husband have helped greatly. They keep her busy, entertain her or just keep watchful eye over her when we're both interacting so I don't pick her up or let her lay on my tummy. It's hard. I miss the bonding already and I think she's taking it personal. :-( But i just keep reminding myself that it's temporary. I'm going back to work in 1 week. If things keep progressing the way they are now - I should be in good shape to do so. Good Luck!

    Travel for a living and?

I travel to for a living. I am taking 6 weeks off. My concern is eating out with clients. Also being in a foreign country if I get ill. The hotels are good but it is a mental thing to. I am hoping that after surgery I get much needed mental health as well as nutritional help. I worry about the small stuff like getting my suitcase off the carousel. I hope I don't tear my newly mended stomach! I hope it doesn't affect my work...

Anyone have any advice - I'm new

Well it was kind of a fast paced deal. Everything seems to be going well. They said I would probably only be on the pre-op diet for a week. They will only do blood work and a EKG. They said that is very normal if you are self pay. They don't have to do all the testing that they have to do for insurance companies. I have talked to several people who have used this company and they seem very content with it and very happy with the way things went.

    How Much Do Eat?

I'm six weeks out and eat 3 oz of food..2 times a day, is that to much??

    discouraged

Yes, if you are going to use the scale then only once a week, at the same time and place... good luck...the newer exercise is probably building your muscle and diminishing your fat, but when the scale doesn't reflect it, it can be discouraging

    2 months out

I had my surgery when my baby was 6 weeks old! It feels great! I am just a little over 6 months out. The first few months weight came off easier. I went on birth control in July and it has slowed. I still average about 11 to 16 pounds a month, but usually only lose weight about a week and a half out of the month. Yay for new moms and getting healthy!

Just Say "you Can Do This."

Keep telling yourself that this is a finite period of time, two weeks and then surgery and you won't feel hungry again. The yucky, head ache feelings go away after a few days. I think that's your body saying goodbye to the sugar and carbs. I know I was miserable, tired and my head killed me. For me, after the first three days, I no longer craved carbs or sugar and it did get much easier. Just try to stay busy with other things, drink lots of water and keep reminding yourself that this is NOT FOREVER, just two weeks. Also, when you are tempted to cheat, remind yourself that you are doing this for a safe and healthy surgery. The other big motivator will be that your scale will start to go down! That helps A LOT when you are feeling deprived. Hang in there! YOU'VE GOT THIS!!

    Wine and Sleeve

I drink wine regularly. I certainly can't drink as much as I used to but a couple days a week I will have a couple glasses of wine. Drinking and eating at the same time is still tough for me so I don't really risk overeating due to bad decisions after wine and just monitor calories.

  17. Jazelle..I had the exact same fears aboutthe liquid phase and mine was for 3 weeks. I thought there would be no way that I could accomplish that..but guess what..I DID..WE ALL DID!! You will be amazed at how food will not even sound tempting the first week or two as you are healing. I had so much gas and swelling in my tummy that hunger & food were not even issues. You will get through it!

    Start to surgery...

I made the call on a Monday and booked my flight and was on the table 2 weeks later on a Friday.
  19. Had my sleeve done two days ago. Finished up two nights in hospital and have been discharged. Learnt that I have diabetes and being sent home with insulin. Lots to take in and get my head around. I can drink quite a bit of water but still feel so thirsty with a dry mouth. Looking forward to seeing what the coming days and weeks bring.

    Eating my head off!

I went through the same phase. It was actually nice to get that out of my system. A few days before the surgery, I happened upon a bunch of free KitKat bars and was so sick of sweets, I didn't even want them anymore. I did pack on another 5-8 lbs thanks to my eating in the 2 months preceding the surgery, but that added maybe another week to my weightloss journey, at the most. The first 20 lbs came off extremely fast. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet as I had a lower BMI, so I didn't beat myself up about it too much.
  22. Go on vacation 2 weeks after getting the VSG? I'm planning to go to Hawaii 2 weeks after surgery for my friend's wedding. It's a 15+hr flight duration from the East Coast! Any survival tips? How did you feel 2 weeks after surgery?

    drinking again

I am almost 2 weeks out from surgery. I was doing the little sips at first until a few days post-op I gulped by accident and noticed that it didn't bother me in any way. I can drink anything totally normally now. Water, protein shakes, soup. I got lucky I guess.

    Eating my head off!

I am kind of going through the same thing. I found out my surgery is on November 12th and my pre-op visit with the surgeon is November 9th. I will have to be on a no/very low (less than 20 grams) carb diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Well, this past week and weekend, I kind of went nuts, mostly with Mexican fajita nachos and some Chinese food. I had been on a three-month diet and lost 12 pounds. Once that was officially over, I relaxed a bit and had already put on 5 pounds before the weekend. Then, much to my horror, when I got on the scales this morning, I found that I had gained 14 pounds since my last doctor's visit!!! (Note - this is a 9 pound gain within 4 days!) He is very very strict about not gaining any weight before surgery and will even postpone it if you do. I am praying that the low carb diet will take this weight off of me in time. Another thing I am stressing about is the fact that my primary physician just changed my blood pressure meds, taking away the diuretic. That means that I am about to puff up like a frog, on top of the weight gain I have already had. If I gain weight from that, I don't think it should be held against me, but I don't know what will happen. I can't believe that my surgery will be in 20 days! (Well, if I can get this stupid weight off again, that is.) Worse part of it is - there is a pizza shop across from where I work that keeps calling my name. I know that, once I have the surgery, I will be fine. It's just that there are a couple of things that I feel like I am really going to grieve over if I don't get it out of my system beforehand. I feel like a little kid in a candy shop who is being pulled out by the arm screaming! :pizza: :hurt:
  25. I've been walking all along, about 2-4 15-30 minutes a day. I have a 90 retriever cross. The first week and a half someone had to walk him. I know out his gentle leader on him and I walk. Him. He hates when it pulls his head if he tries to go against me, good luck.
