  1. I feel like I am the first Gastric Bypass failure. I lost weight before I could eat solid food and I have gained back 2 pounds since. I rarely feel full...I know I have to work at losing weight but I was hoping the sleeve would be a tool that helped. Honestly I sometimes think I am the placebo test patient, they removed my lapband but did they forget I wanted the sleeve when they were in there? Being able to eat as much as I did before ( and some days I do) makes me feel horrible. I know "hunger" is in my head but I was hoping the sleeve would make it easier for me to feel full. Every time I read that people can consume a cup of food at some meals ( like that is a lot) makes me nuts, I can easily eat 2 - 3 cups at a meal ( if not more!) Am I the ONLY one?

I was surprised as well. My list from my doctor is: Clear Liquid Diet in hospital (day of surgery + next day) Full Liquid Diet, 1-day post-op - 1-week post-op. Chopped Diet, 1-week post-op - 1-month post-op. Avoid foods with more than 2gm sugar alcohol 8 cups of fluid between meals Take multi-vitamins Exercise - No lifting over 10lbs first eight weeks after surgery. I do have the Premier Protein shakes, which I liked before the surgery, but after the only one I can tolerate is the chocolate one. I do like the clear one, but it is only 20g, but it also counts as a liquid, so that is a win-win. I was all prepared with caffeine-free coffee and everything, but I was told coffee is fine, so happy dance. I do like seaweed, so I am going to get some of those for snacks and just add protein powders to everything I can since 92 grams seems like a lot.
  3. Hi everyone! I just started back at work. My work generally required me to travel 4 days a week and typically work very long hours. This makes eating right and exercising more of a challenge. Yesterday as I was on my way back home, I was feeling great. My project is interesting and going great! I worked out everyday - found a yoga and spinning studio that I could drop in at. I ate well - with one not so fantastic, but not horrible meal out with the client and supplier. So I was just feeling like I had this - I could do it. This morning when I weight myself, I was up 1.2 lbs. It is so frustrating! The weight loss had already been slowing down, so I was hoping for a good drop. Could this be Water retention from the airline travel? I know this is normal and if I keep doing everything I should then things will move. But ahh! It is a mind f*!k. I hope everyone has a great Friday. thanks for listening.

Wow I’m impressed with your diet. I’m 9 days out and still need to be on liquids another week. I cannot drink the protein drinks at all they sicken me. You seem to be doing great. I’d say keep working up to it and get your fluids. Sorry I’m not really helping but I’m so impressed by what your already doing

I'm 5 weeks out and I still use Genepro protein powder at least once a day. It's a tiny scoop of flavorless, fully dissolvable protein. I put it in water and mix it with some crystal light drops. One scoop is 30g. I will also mix it into other recipes (you can bake with it up to 400 degrees). So when I make ricotta bites I add a scoop or two. It helps just boost all the things I eat with extra protein.
  7. It's not the insurance company, it's your doctor. They want the procedure to be safer by shrinking your liver. My doctor told me the same thing. I knew i would be put on a two week liquid diet before surgery so i started on my own. I drank slim fast twice a day and something light for dinner. I lost 5 pounds the first week. But my doctor had me drink 5 shakes a day, and sugar free jello. I was told to lose 20 pounds within the two weeks but only lost 13. They just want to see your that trying. I had surgery last Tuesday December 3

    Help me!

Plain and BamBam.... Hi Guys! Thank you for your advice...I was getting pretty desperate as almost every meal for about 6 months has been uncomfortable. I has a fill of 2 ml, but had 0.5 ml taken out...twice. That leaves a fill of only 1 ml. It doesn't seem like that would make the band too tight, but, Plain you do have a point. I think I will follow BamBam's advice for a couple weeks. If I get no relief, I will go back to my doctor and follow Plain's advice and have another 0.5 ml removed. Both of you gave me some sound advice to go on and I thank you. Many thanks, : ) gini
  9. Yes it was before 8 months. I would say for me personally I felt much better by 4-6 weeks post op. I never had any issues major issues other than eating felt uncomfortable at first and having to remember to take my time and adjust my eating to how I was feeling. If it didn't sit well, I found something else and came back to it. I started solids at 10wks and I would say I was eating normally by 12-13 weeks.

Feeling like I will never eat again

Take smaller sips and smaller bites. I had this same issue, my Doctor found a hiatal hernia that was repaired and I can say in the first week when I would take a sip too large, it was friggin murder going down. Also, be sure to wait a few seconds between sips/bites, so the liquid/food has time to funnel through. For soups or thicker substances, I would dip my spoon and just lick off what was left on it, it took longer to get in the ounces, but it kept the pain away. Take it slow, I know you are probably thirsty or even a bit hungry, but don't rush, because rushing means pain. Good Luck.

    A Day Off?

Really it is a matter of personal taste and your goals. My wife and I try to work out every day, and then we skip as exceptions are needed -- which is more often lately with our schedules. When I started getting serious, I was shooting for 3-4 days a week. That's what many medical and fitness advocates recommend. I think, though, that this is partially to avoid turning off inactive people completely: to go from 0 to 60 is daunting; it is much more palatable to ease into a more active lifestyle. So when my wife and I work out 7 days a week, that isn't to say we're busting our butts. For us, it's just a matter of routine. When we were less consistent, we were SUPER inconsistent. If we make it a habit, we're much better about keeping it up. It's like brushing our teeth. Regarding recovery, super athletic people I work with don't really struggle with this. There are a couple ways to recover. Over time your body will repair itself. That's a given. But the other option is to lessen the recovery time needed, almost to the point of being negligible -- depending on the scenario -- by giving your body extra vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and -- most significantly -- protein to rebuild muscle tissue. It's like a brick house. If you demolish it, you can rebuild it by making more bricks yourself and repairing the structure; or you can stockpile bricks ahead of time and then move them into place as needed. It isn't 'no recovery' exactly, but it really makes a huge difference.
  12. Billie, I am just about a three minute drive up the hill from downtown Kittanning. Am going to Butler Hospital for my support group meetings, my surgeon has his patients organized into one there monthly, although I stressed that I would prefer they be more often and the nurses are trying to take him into doing that. I think it would be good for us all to meet at least twice a month there to share stories and experiences and support. The first meeting went wonderfully, although hubby and I showed up about fifteen minutes late due to doc's office being confused about start times. So are you near to the Cook Forest area at all? We were just up that way recently and we had such a nice time, hadn't been there in about two years so it was nice to take an afternoon and drive around and because it is off season now, there weren't a whole lot of people around, bonus! I did experience my first bout of some serious post op all day nausea that day, due to my own foolishness with the amount of food I ate but we still had a nice time. It was cold that day though so we did just about all of our wandering around from behind the warmth of the car. We went spotting deer up in the woods, drove along the creek, drove up to the Water Tower and back down. Wish we had left earlier to be able to spend more hours but we will be heading back up that way soon, I'd like to go before the serious snow season sets in. Isn't a whole lot to tell about myself I suppose. I have been married for over 20 years, no children but we do share our home with our cats Keeley and Kelsey and they get treated like children anyway. I also have two wonderful little nieces who mean the world to me and I shower the attention on them that I would have liked to have given my own children if I had been so blessed. I am into Photography, photo and graphic editing, computer games, Wii, primitive decorating, saltbox houses, wicker baskets, swimming, time with family. :crying: And can you tell me more about yourself? If you would like, you can message me privately and we can carry on our conversation there. :w00t:

  14. Recently I have been reflecting on my present and future progress with weight loss. From this reflection I have come to the conclusion. When I have the feeling that I do not want to exercise, that is just a superficial manifestation of what is really going on. The real issue, when I do not feel like exercising, is that I have fear that I will never reach my goal and I am giving up. Now, so of you just read that and have your fingers ready to type something to me before you do let me say this these moments are brief, but they must be dealt with. Please do not give me advice about the above I am trying to make a bigger point. Once I realized that fear was the motivating factor in the I-don't-want-to-work-out-syndrome. I was able to fight back this week. If I continue the course I will have worked out six days this week. Take that despair! The other thing that happen this week as I shared the above with my prayer partner is a statement she made to me, "You suffered an injury as a child and now you are finally in rehab to recover from that injury." In essence she was encouraging me to see my weight loss journey as rehab. What she says is true. I am the adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse and parental neglect. Throw some time periods of poverty into the mix well you have a recipe for childhood and adult obesity and here I am. Losing the weight is part of the process of healing that very old wound. To me that is more important than smaller clothes sizes, appearance, and so on. My weight is a physical manifestation of childhood trauma. My question to you is this-- how to you view your weight loss journey? Is just about having a smaller body? Is it about healing wounds from the past? I am interested in your thoughts. How does the way in which you view your process affecting you?
  15. I had a revision from Lapband to gastric bypass on Nov 11. I’m on liquids for two weeks but I’m so hungry and advice?

    Really need some advice--Fill

It depends on how much she "thought" she put in, but I would say you should have felt SOMETHING. I was restricted just drinking water when I sat up, so the PA took half of mine out. I have heard of not feeling much restriction until maybe a weeks later, but I would think you should be at least able to tell you had one. I would probably go on and call and go back in.
  18. Since I was self paying my surgery came up pretty quickly after my initial consultation, about a month later. I admit to pigging out the last week or two before surgery. Last mcdonalds, last mexican et.. However, since you are already in weight loss mode, I would continue on that path. Just think, every pound you loose prior to surgery, is one less pound you need to loose after. You are doing a great job! Keep it up!

Six Weeks PO and Second Adjustment

I just want to say that I am so very very lucky to have the Doctor that I do here in So. California! His name is Michael Feiz and he loves what he does and be believes in each one of us that he does surgery on. It does not make any difference what type of bariatric surgery you have he is your greatest Cheerleader! I have read so many blogs and comments on all the different ways that Doctors have each one of us do before and after surgery, I am not sure why some LBers have to go on liquid diets 6 weeks or more before surgery and I am really not sure why other Doctors keep certain people on only Liquids for who knows how long after LB. I really hope that for those after LB who still are not taking in at least 60 mg of protein a day and are only on clear liquids that your body does not starve itself and go into the starvation mode which will cause you to not loose any weight or inches. When I spoke to my nutritionist, she really pushed the fact that after one week of PO or less I needed to get those protein shakes in me regularly it was really important to my weight loss. I was able to start eating mushies after 8 days PO then I was able to start eating food as I could tolerate but eating very slowly. I am very in touch with my body and I was able to tell after 3 weeks that I needed an adjustment. No problem I had one and now after six weeks PO I have had my second adjustment because again I was able to eat more then I should. My Doc told me that I would more then likely be back in another 3 weeks for the third adjustment and this is how it will be until I get to the place where I am not eating more then I should be. I have tried drinking a soda and I really did not like the feeling it gave me so back to Ice Tea for my caffeine! I always eat protein first if I am full then nothing more will pass my lips. I have allowed myself to have a glass or two of wine a couple of times and one of those times I drank the whole bottle, but I am not making a habit of that because I do realize that those are truly empty calories which I do not need. I do have to walk more and I am going to start that today. My Doc again says to not focus on the pounds gone, focus on the inches lost and the way my clothes are starting to just fall off me! I LIKE IT! Here is to all of our success! No Failures!

    Not fair!

men metabolize different than women so they tend to lose faster and also the heavier a person is the first to go is always water so the weight loss at first can go faster then it slows when you are working off the fat. I lost 40lbs first month at 10 lbs a week first month then it slowed to about 2 lbs a week.
  21. By 5 weeks I was only at around 400 I am 9 months out and only now hitting 1000 slow and steady wins this race

7 weeks post op and risking it

It is not that salad is bad... my stomach just wasn't digesting it well at the time I replied to this. But... in the last week I HAVE been able to eat it just fine! Still smaller amounts... but it goes down easier. It is easier to start with soft veggies (steamed) and add more firm veggies as you tolerate them. And I think everyone has different tolerances for lettuces.

    Caffeine?

Caffeine is also an appetite stimulant. Again, all docs have different guidelines. I was told that you don't have to give it up forever, just for awhile until you can get at least 64 oz of fluid in a day easily. I'm not a big caffeine drinker but I do enjoy a 1/2 cup of hot tea a few times a week, and a low caffeine tea at that. I only started that a week ago though and I am now 7 weeks out tomorrow.

    Caffeine?

Had my first cup of coffee in two weeks. I was nodding off on a 3 hr drive. It tasted great and I don't feel guilty, but I'm going to try to get in some extra liquids today.

    frustrating

I know this is a common topic, but I have stop losing weight. I had my surgery Dec 1st, and I was doing well with the weight loss. I lost close to 66 pounds. Then about a month ago I stopped loosing weight. I have been staying within a 3 pound range. It's frustrating and kind of heart breaking. I was steadily losing weight, then boom nothing. I feel like all the hard work i have been doing is for nothing. I am trying to stay positive. I know stalls happen. I just didn't know they would last this long.
