    Devastated

Same issue. Esophagus dilated and band slipped. Revision surgery to correct slip on June 26th. Been tightened to capacity and no restriction. Surgeon says it should be removed and I should try the sleeve. Need opinions. Can you reset your band to work with your body again????? Also, Same spouse issue. They do have a right to have an opinion and be upset though. Major surgery and expense. As well as the fact that, if they aren't as concerned with our weight as we are, they don't feel the risk of surgery is worth potentially losing their loved one.

    Gained weight on purpose?

I was around 36 or 37 BMI when my primary care doctor suggested I gain weight to get to 40 BMI to have a revision from band to RNY. When I first weighed in I was instructed not to gain any more weight- but also not to lose any! It's HARD to stay at 40 legitimately. Weighing down your pockets... That's a dangerous game to play.

    Cough cough cough

Coughing is a sign of acid reflux.I had the sleeve surgery in 2011.Last year I started coughing and having terrible reflux.I had to have a revision to bypass on Nov.22,2016.It has really helped.I went back to my weight loss Dr and he did upper GI and endoscope.I was turned downed at first because insurance thought it was about weight loss. Then sent my other Drs records for acid reflux and my Dr did a Peer to Peer.I say this only to warn people who had the lapband or sleeve that this can happen.Be Aware.
  4. I'm not sure it's a "one time chance". That is a very disheartening thought. And we do see people lose their regain, so that makes me think it's not quite accurate. However, I do think it's harder for people like us to lose weight than the general population, and I do agree it is wise to take advantage of the first year or so. It's imperative to learn how to manage our weight and make some permanent life style changes. Man I wish we could sticky this. People need to understand that the losing phase post-op I'd a one time chance. Go as low as possible as fast as possible while still being healthy. This is the only time it is going to be this "easy" later you have to fight like everyone else. All the band revision people pretty much prove this theory.

I had a revision from band to MGB - glad I did it.

    Day 4 Post-Op - Is This Normal?

I'm a revision patient. When I had lapband, I was able to find a child's cup that was insulated and I took the "sippy" valve out so that I didn't have to suck to get a drink. It was perfect. Now, I have my own child so there are plenty of cups around. Anything that doesn't require you to make suction should be fine, but if the cup is spill proof, it's probably going to give us some gas. Gas x strips are great!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  7. EXACTLY!!! I had a Surgeon who has the BARIATRIC EXCELLENCE AWARD as does the Hospital that he practices in. When I first started going to him he wants his patients to sign a contract to follow your weight loss success for 5 years. As long as you made him look good all was GREAT!!! My hubby had his failed revision from the Band to a RNY. He had abscesses and our EXCELLENCE Dr dropped him like a HOT POTATOE!!! Told him to go to the ER or our PCP. Neither could help him at all. Myself I had Strictures and had to have 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. He referred to us as PROBLEM CHILDREN!!! We made him look bad!!! I eventually fired him and went to another BARIATRIC CENTER OF EXCELLENCE!!! Who has been wonderful!!! Hubby went to Mexico and eventually got his Sleeve done. My point is even tho we thought that he would be great, he must be to have the EXCELLENCE reward by his name, you just never know how they will be as your DR.

  10. I have battled with my weight since I was young but pretty much kept it under control with working out and diet. Late 2009 I started having issues with my hips and was unable to walk more then just a few feet, so the weight just piled on was at my heaviest 312 I'm 5"7. My doctor recommended I have a bariatric consultant. At the time the way things went with the bariatric doctor it seemed like the magic pill we al dream of. Just one consult and I was underway to my upcoming surgery I had to lose 10% of my weight. Took me about 3 months and had my surgery January of 2011. I was outpatient surgery and was home by dinner. I have to say it was fairly easy very little pain, some shoulder gas pain I walked off. Being on the liquid diet the weight came off quick and I followed the liquid diet to a T. No issues weight came off and I was back to my normal activity within 2 weeks. Solid foods in the beginning where great small portions and chewed everything very carefully. Fast forward to 2014 I am down to 220 total weight loss 92 pounds feeling and looking great. Went from size 24 to 16. I had to watch everything I ate because the weight was creeping back so I went on weight watchers at this time I had put on about 25 pounds but back down to around 220. I never lost anymore weight. When I went back to my bariatric doctor for fills I was almost full...that's when things went down hill...after that I threw up every day every meal and still not weight loss but weight gain, then came the reflux...so bad I was taking medicine and eating bottles of tums every day, had to sleep with a wedge..but worse then that was my asthma was so bad, I was taking tons of prednisone my immunity was going down, I had thrush for five weeks...I was a mess, not to mention my weight was up to 263. My bariatric doctor said just go back on liquids I did but who can live on liquid for ever...finally my primary doctor got me a consultation with a different bariatric doctor and he was amazing ran test found out I had an ulcer around my band. I will not even do bands do to 50 % of patients having issues, I am no awaiting my insurance to authorize a band removal and revision to full gastric bypass...the band was a nightmare for me.., my band is open all the way now, my reflux and asthma is great! I've lost 8 pounds and going to meet with the nutritionist next month.... Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. Yep. I haven't had major problems and i havent had sucess. Its largely like nothing happened except i can't eat so much and carbonated beverages kill me. But That's right about where I'm at now. Going through the process to revise to the bypass. Which I wanted in the first place, but everyone said I was too young at the time (21). My doctor wants me to have this done-->help...questions

I am a sleever. I would need to loose 200 pounds to lose all my excess weight. At almost 1.5 years I have lost 175 pounds. I look solidly 10 to 14 years younger than my age. The men that approach me in public and ask me out are 26 to 30. I had a pretty face before I lost weight and I still have a pretty face. I think how you eat post op determines if you look healthy or not. A lot of WLS patients stay on low calories forever, slowing down their metabolism and denying themselves essential fats. I eat keto, and the few other sleevers I know that eat Keto all look younger than their age. Most people that lose weight with keto even without surgery don't age by dropping a lot of weight they look younger. The fat helps with that. Also upping you calories and keeping them up helps. Calories and Protein should be pegged to your lean muscle mass. People who have been super morbidly obese for a long time have more muscle and denser bones because carrying all that weight changes your body. I have between 100 and 130 grams of protein a day. Also what is 100% of excess weight for a morbidly obese person is will be different than a person that was never morbidly obese. I am probably pretty close to 100% right now with my extra muscle and loose skin. Again on the aging, I never had the huge fat neck that some people have I always had a neck and could wear regular chokers even at 370 pounds. People that have a ton of neck and face fat do usually age terrible if they drop a ton of weight because they have loose skin in their face. That is just genetics and weak jaw lines. If my doctor would have suggested the DS I would have considered. It is extreme but it does work THE BEST. Still I wouldn't want the malabsorption issues, which is why I have worked so hard on my food and eating right. Eating correctly on keto in a way that sustainable to me, that does not feel like a diet has been the key to my weight loss. After 9 months I feel like my weight loss was due to my food and lifestyle, not my sleeve. I decided when I had the sleeve, if I didn't get to a certain weight with it, I would get a revision to the DS. I have been very successful with the sleeve, and no further surgery is needed, except plastics to remove the skin. If your health is in bad condition and you need to lose weight fast, I wouldn't hesitate to have the DS.

    Pre-op diet over the holidays...

We are superheroes!!! My mom said I was the strongest woman she knows lol I do have classic binge eating disorder and since I am a revision patient, I've decided to see a psychiatrist after my surgery to help work through those issues. Part of realizing surgery will be a tool, not a magical cure all. I'm still on five shakes a day, but I've been drinking Powerade zero which has no calories or sugar. It's the best thing in my day lol 2 more sleeps till surgery! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve Regrets?

I just had a band removal/sleeve revision on 12/20. My band was placed in 2012, then a huge hernia formed, revised in 2013, stomach prolapsed in 2016. The band was stuck to my liver. The band never did anything for weight loss unless I was throwing up what I ate. I am looking forward to having a somewhat normal eating pattern. I think my family is also glad as I was no fun to go out to dinner with!
  18. I am in the process of trying to get my lap band removed and revised to the sleeve. My insurance company was agreeable and said that I needed to have another psyche eval and 3 mos of nutritional counseling, with which I did comply. My insurance company is First Choice through the ILWU... which is fantastic insurance, but they referred this claim out to Innovation Care Management for review. I have had my band for 6 years and I initially lost 70 lbs. and pretty much stayed at about a 60 lb loss until about a year ago. I had only a little over 3cc of Fluid in my band and could barely eat any solid food.... mostly Soups, shakes... nothing with any substance. My reflux is off the charts, having to sleep propped and taking the strongest dosage of meds twice daily. I can't eat much of any solid food without it coming back up. I had pretty much had convinced myself that this was the way my life was going to be , but after a conversation with dr. he came to the conclusion that my band had failed. After my consideration, I have chosen to have the sleeve, however my BMI is just at 35. While waiting for my approval, all of the fluid was removed from my band to help me heal before surgery. I have been able to eat a little better, but still not a lot of solid food. My reflux is pretty much the same.... I have gained 20 pounds and my blood pressure is vasilating and my BMI is rising . I was anxiously waiting to get my approval for surgery. The ICM doctor said since I was managing with the unfilled band, its better for me to just live with it like it is! My doctor had a peer to peer conversation with him and I still was denied! I need to file an appeal.... I read on here where someone had some info regarding appeals... letters, etc. Can you help a girl out? What a way to spend the holidays! Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

After the Honeymoon Phase is Over...

Man I wish we could sticky this. People need to understand that the losing phase post-op I'd a one time chance. Go as low as possible as fast as possible while still being healthy. 20. Revision went well. I'm a little over two months post op and learning to live a healthy life with the sleeve. I'm down 34 pounds since pre op diet started and 27 since surgery. I feel good! Still thrilled that I made the switch!!! No more stuck episodes and I'm almost to the lowest weight I ever reached with the band. I joke with my family that I'm entering uncharted weight territory and I'm going to run out of clothes to wear shortly. There is a big difference with full with the sleeve-I can't take one bite past the full sensation or I will be uncomfortable for hours. Haven't gone off the program at all at this point. No thanksgiving treats and no Christmas goodies but it's all good. Still amazed at how quickly I get full-there just isn't room in my tiny new stomach for non Protein. Nymphs Weight Loss To Date

Hey November Nymphs, Anyone still around? We're at nine years now. How is everyone? Long story short: I'm looking at revision surgery possibly by March 2017. I'm back up to my original weight & can no longer be filled due to scar tissue. Hope to hear how each of you are doing. Happy Holidays! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. NeeNee717, I'm sorry you've had the difficult fill & flipped port - that's awful! I also totally understand the defeat of regain after taking control for so long. Please keep me up to date on your process towards revision. Merry Christmas!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    incision pain!

I had the band in 2013 and had a bad rash around each incision and the same thing happened this time after my revision from band to sleeve in Nov. Since they are completely closed and healed on the outside I've been using Mederma Ointment to try and help fade them. Ps If they are still healing maybe you can put Neosporin on them. And don't scratch when they start itching, instead just run lightly, that helped to soothe mines Hope This Help Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  24. May42012Yes I have seen a great improvement in acid reflux,I did have my other Dr send his records just for the acid reflux and then my Dr did Peer to peer and it was approved.
