  1. A perfect fill is so personal. I had a 2nd fill but when I asked the doctor if I was too tight he said I was trying to eat too much and needed to keep it under 600 calories. When I kept it small is was a lot better and I started to feel like the fill was good. Now a slice of bacon can come back on me. So I started eating soft food more and more. So now I think it is too tight because I am still Pb'ing when I never did before this fill. I even tried to drink fluids in case I was swollen so now I am calling to have it reduced. I think a perfect fill is when you can actually eat what is expected even though the weight loss has been nice I am eagar to have it fixed. I am tired and hungry and am interested in feeling better and less run down. I used vit's and protien drinks but it is not enough. SO everyone can handle things differently. At least that is what I think. <a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/3;10731;125;0;0/c/-50/t/-82/k/e2a1/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/3;10731;125;0;0/c/-50/t/-82/k/e2a1/weight.png"></a>
  2. porclndoll, From my experience this is restriction!!! I get the same dull ache, but mine usually only lasts between 2 and 10 minutes long. I have only slimed and vomited twice after these ache moments. I am trying to get better at finding the soft stopping point before the dull pain starts.....It's a big learning process though...My fill took a few weeks to really kick in, now I feel like I'm in a good spot (for now!!) Good Luck, Monica Banded March 2, 2005 Dr. Ortiz/Martinez 185 at surgery, 166 today (Average monthly loss=6lbs./mo)
  3. ragdollx19

Amount of food tolerated after 6 months

I have had 3 fills and have always been able to eat more than 1/2 a cup of food. I can probably eat about a cup but still have been losing 2-3 lbs a week. My doctor never told me I should focus on only eating 1/2 a cup. He said eat until you are full then stop, if your weight loss slows down from the 1-2 lbs a week and you are eating healthy and working out then go get a fill.
  4. I'm 5 weeks out. And personally, a new band every 10 years would be worth it to me. I guess I was wondering what your immediate impressions are of the band post op? I was frustrated immediately following the surgery. You don't have restriction at that point... you still get hungry (or at least I did). I had swelling for 2 weeks, so wasn't starving, but after that I could have eaten a horse! Thank goodness for fills! People warn you that the first 6 weeks is for healing & that any weight you lose during that time is from will-power & is a gift... but you don't realize it until you're in it. It's a long time! And of course everyone you've told is looking for your weight loss, lol, and you're sitting still. Irritating. Are you amazed? I am amazed at how quickly the pain faded. At the time, it seemed unending, but it really was gone quickly. I wasn't this far along this quickly after knee surgery! Currently, after my first fill, I'm amazed at not being hungry. I know I'm still able to eat more then I "should", but it's SO much less then I used to eat. I can be patient & wait for my fills to limit my eating further. What a tool! Are you disappointed? I was disappointed with myself & my will power during the healing period (I didn't limit my calories at ALL, lol). I'm not disappointed with the band at all. It's too early to tell, but it seems to be working amazingly! Are you tickled pink? Maybe light pink, lol. I am excited & thrilled to think that this is actually going to work. That even if I cheat... even if I binge... the band will limit how much damage I can do. What a blessing! Are you mourning food? Yes. I don't think I was really prepared mentally. I'm not sure there is a way to GET prepared. You don't know how you'll react until it's gone. I can actually eat anything I want -- bread, Pasta, rice, steak, you name it. But I can't eat as MUCH as I want, lol. It irritates me, lol. I'm sure I'll get over it in time... I'm working on it!
  5. Wheetsin

    Sunta, and others recently banded...

Are you amazed? I'm amazed at how easy the transition was for me. I assumed I had restriction from day 1 and have eaten accordingly, even now into my 4th week of being banded. I'm also amazed by how little food I need to be OK if I really take the time to eat slowly and listen to what my body is telling me, in terms of hunger queues. I have no fil and my swelling has subsided but on my biggest eating day so far I still only needed about a cup of food (and that was my biggest meal of the day) to feel that I was no longer hungry. Part of what helps, I think, is that my Protein shakes fill me up. Are you disappointed? I have no reason to be disappointed in the band. I never thought going into this that the band would do it for me. I knew about 70% or more of it was on my shoulders. I also would never have expected significant results without so much as a fill. I mean -- a soggy cast doesn't help mend broken bones, so why would an unfilled band lead to weightloss? In terms of personal disappointment, my biggest challenge is the drinking -- not drinking after meals. I can do this about 70% of the time. The other 30% I just can't stand it, so I put enouogh Water on my tongue to get the sensation of drinking, but hopefully little enough that it is absorbed in my throat before it gets to my esophagus. I wish I was better about this aspect. Are you tickled pink? I'm thrilled so far. Like I said - IMO - it's unrealistic to expect weightloss from the band before you have any fill, let alone the right fill. My scale shows a 45 lb loss it's also that time of the month for me to be retaining water, so the loss-on-scale could be accurate, or it could be about 8 lbs low. I know that whatever percentage of that number can be equated to fat loss is mostly my doing through making good choices, telling myself to stop eating, joining the gym, etc. Almost 50 lbs in less than a month - I'm thrilled! Are you mourning food? No, but I think emotional eaters are the most prone to do this. My overeating was behavioral, so for me it was more a matter of breaking habits (e.g. eating when I do this, getting fast food for convenience during business travel, eating late at night, etc.) I never saw food as a friend, or a crutch to get me through a situation, so it had no presence in my life to "mourn", so to speak. There are things I know I will eventually crave, but right now the only thing I'm craving is carbonation. Not soda, just the carbonation itself... weird!
  6. hi All had my surgery 11th of august. gained 6 pounds right after surgery.. lost that weight afer 2 -3 days. weight loss after that was gradual. but since the last week, right after i started pureed food, no weight loss, actually gained 3 lbs. swollen ankles and abdomen. anything that i doing wrong ? please help me with your suggestions.
  7. I went to my Pre-Op appointments yesterday and learned that the VA no longer covers cosmetic plastic surgery. Because I scheduled my surgery previously, I am still in, but they will not do a fat transfer to the breast because it is purely cosmetic. I have loose skin and need muscle repair (the Dr. said my separation isn't that bad) and they justified the thigh liposuction by documenting chaffing. The Dr. was like "your thighs rub together and get irritated right?" On the plus side they are going to liposuction inner and outer thigh, which according to my DEXA scan is where I carry the majority of my fat. My weight has maintained between 140-145. I also learned that I will have 3 surgeons and an attending, I met 2 of them, but the 3rd was with another patient and I had another appointment I had to get to. The whole thing will be same day surgery, I will have drains. I guess if I end up with a lot of loose skin on my thighs I can always pay to have it removed later if I choose. Or maybe the pendulum will shift and the VA will cover it again. They did not cover my gastric sleeve surgery, but they did cover it for some VA patients. It is a weird system, I am a little disappointed about not getting some fluff in my breast, but I am going to make sure they cut off the teeny tiny skin tag I have growing on my rib cage so I can get my monies worth (haha). Getting this much done is an unexpected blessing. I still can't believe this opportunity arose because I injured my knee when I was fat. No one wanted to take the cyst out that formed around the bone fragment (orthopedics said I was born with it). When I lost the weight it really stuck out and I kept bumping it on things, my Doctor sent me to dermatology who then sent me to plastic surgery. This is when I learned that because of my weight loss I could get surgery. I am also thankful for all the input on this site and others who have shared their stories and given some much needed advice. I will post some before and after pics, but I don't own a bathing suit, so I am going to have to think about what to wear...

    Need this scale to MOVE!

At about that 3 week mark, my weight loss changed from a downward slope to stairs - hold for a while, big drop, hold, drop, etc. It's been that way ever since. But I also have noticed my body reshaping. When you're working so hard, it's frustrating to not see something change in the scale every day, but keep the big picture in mind. It will come off!
  11. Hey, @@Joey Jackson. Here's the stuff I wish someone had told me: That it hurts like hell when you first wake up! But the improvement starts almost immediately and after 2 weeks you'll feel pretty decent. That the first few trips around the floor are really hard, but after that walking actually starts to feel pretty good. That they would transition me from IV pain meds to pills during the night in the hospital. And yes, you can swallow a small pill. That the pain meds are only needed for 3 or 4 days. That Water is even more important than Protein during the first week or two. That if you don't get enough fluids, the constipation is gonna really suck! That you should have some kind of laxative or stool softener ready. (Miralax is pretty good.) That food and drink are going to get stuck at various points in your esophagus at various times in the first few weeks, and make weird noises going down. This is normal, and due to swelling, and it improves pretty quickly. That tons of fluids (eventually) are the best way to keep your skin elastic, which might help down the road. That tons of protein (eventually) plus Biotin is the best way to try and keep your hair. That Vitamin B-12 is a happy pill. (I prefer timed-release to sub-lingual.) That around week 3 after surgery, all weight loss may stop for 2-3 weeks! This is completely normal and here's why. good article That if I follow ALL the rules about what and when to eat and drink, never eat starches or sweets (or drink alcohol), and get regular exercise, I could lose 111 pounds and reach my goal weight in 7 1/2 months. And.... that if I did all of that, I would actually enjoy the journey... and I have! Good luck! I wish you all the success in the world!!!
  12. @@Keralian thanks doll! This is weird to me because this is crazy to me. Lol. I cant wait to go back to weight training, that will really spike the weight loss! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Out of CONTROL!!

Kim, I just now read your post and it sounds like you have been living with me and watching me on one of my bad days. I have done the exact same thing before and beat myself up over it 1000 times for doing it. I think we ALL slip up and eat stuff we don't need and that just proves you are human and normal. When I read your post I thought back to this past weekend, I bought hershey kisses to give to our kids at church in sunday school, well I thought, I will have a couple of those and before the day was over the entire bag was gone, inside me making me feel like such a loser and failure and feeling as big as I ever was. I know we can do this and overcome these binges. It don't happen often to me but it does happen. My new rules are I don't even let myself purchase those things and if I do it to give to someone else I make a big deal out of telling my husband there is candy in the house and to be my candy police!! He don't have a problem at all, he is diabetic and lucky for him he has never been a big sweets eater. So, stop beating yourself up and move on...today is a new day.....even if you slip once today, don't let it turn you into the candymonster all day, just throw the candy away or give it to someone else. I know it sounds crazy but get it out of your site however you can. I will pray for you as you deal with these demons everyday and I want you to pray for me. I am just vowing to not even have it in my presence and not purchase it at all. I cannot be trusted with it!! heck, I cannot even be trusted with the sugarfree chocolate either, same thing happens if I have it. What I started doing after my last "binge" was not allowing me to have any chocolate or treat until once on the weekend in the presence of someone else, as I feel guilty if I eat more than I should in the presence of someone else. Especially since everyone knows I have lost 140 pounds and I feel like they are "watching" me to see if I mess up. That is the safest answer to my problem, wait till weekend to treat myself and then only with one serving of the treat. Well, wake up now, I know I put you to sleep with such a long post, but I know where you are coming from....take it a day at a time.... you can do it you have not come this far to fail now! You have done a great job with your band on your wt loss. Take care.....
  15. 53 pounds in 5 months is a very decent loss, so don't panic too much about the time its taking... after all, I'm sure it took you years to put on the weight (just like most of us on here) so taking a year or so to get it off isn't terrible! Without knowing what exactly you're eating and whether you're hitting all of your daily requirements, we can't help you much tho. Are you eating healthy foods - Protein first, veggies next and complex carbs in moderation after that? Are you tracking your calories, carbs and fat - every bite of food that goes into your mouth - to really know how much you are eating? Are you getting your recommended levels of protein and Water daily? Are you doing moderate exercise? Can you clarify what you mean by eating all "the stuff I want" - meaning stuff that is bad for you (sugars, simple carbs, high fat, or heaven forbid junk food or fast food restaurants and crap in a box type prepackaged meals from the grocery)? (goodness I do hope not!!) You will lose some weight in the beginning even if you are eating absolute crap due to the restriction and the loss of appetite. But if you haven't thrown out all the crap food habits and taught yourself how to eat healthy, whole foods during the year or so you have before your body adjusts to the sleeve... then you will regain the weight. The sleeve is not a magical fix that means you don't have hard work ahead of you. It is a tool. It won't do all the work for you, you have to use it correctly and work HARD at it if you want to succeed. That being said, you are losing weight, and sometimes it just goes slowly. If you are tracking your food, eating healthy, and getting all of your daily requirements in, then you just get to be one of the "lucky" ones that will take longer to get the weight off - and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But yeah, it sucks just the same to not be one of those types that gets to drop 100 pounds in 3 months and be at goal weight in a year. So do give us more details to work with and I'm sure there are many others here that can give you more ideas on things to look at and try.
  16. I'm down 30 lbs. since surgery. I never had to go on a preop diet, so all of my weight loss has been post op. Yes, the snow has been a serious pain! Glad it's finally getting to be Spring now. Hopefully your process will go much faster than mine.

    Pcos And The Sleeve

I know this is a really stupid question but I had PCOS prior to having a complete hysterectomy in 2009. I am still a hairy beast, still get acne and my hair is still thinning. I am thinking that this should have resolved itself after my hysterectomy. I wonder if having the sleeve will help any of that. I also wonder if I will be a slow loser because of PCOS. Are you still PCOS if you no longer have your overies?

    Protein - I'm at a loss...

A memory from back in the old days that may help you....I used to go to Physician's weight loss and also LA weight loss (anyone surprised?). Anyway, they had these protein drinks that you mixed with water. They tasted like kool-aid, and were really good. Cranberry Grape was my favorite. Unfortunately, I don't have a box left that has the nutrition info, but I bet you could google it and find out how much is in it. I hope this helps!
  20. As long as you're following the rules, you're doing fine! I'm not even a year out yet and have lost a significant amount of weight...especially considering they told me to expect only about a 40lb loss the first year. Enjoy it while it's falling off, the weightloss will slow down, I promise!

    Exercise w/Wii

Hey Cajun! I am getting the sleeve here in Nicaragua by Dr. Jorge Gutierrez and his team of 2 other surgeons. It's cheaper than the U.S. or Mexico. I believe he is a good doctor, I hope I'm right. I haven't been able to find anything online about him, but he has been doing weight loss surgery for years. He's did a couple of people from the states, but most of the people he works with or from Central or South America. He's going to give me some references I can call.

    Stall For 2 Weeks

I agree with other posts that this is totally normal. I had almost a month of little or no weight loss and then I changed from working out in evening to morning, added more "real food" like fish and veggies, and began tracking EVERYTHING on MyNetDiary. Then yesterday, BOOM, lost 3lbs. I have lost 30lbs since surgery on July 11 but this surgery is definitely not the easy way out, I think more and work harder on myself since this surgery then any other program I have attempted. Stay strong and just shake up your routine, you have to outsmart your body! Good Luck!

    Wondering About Body Parts Sagging.

To the OP question Yes the girly parts can be saggy. I guess it depends on how much fat you have in that area. I actually had mine "lifted" after a previous weight loss. Now I find that the girly parts now are more loose and flabby if you know what I mean, but it does seem like some of the fat is shrinking from this area. I still have some weight to lose so hopefully it will continue to improve. I do notice too that my fat is squishy, I think as the fat goes the skin is trying to shrink up to keep up but in the interim your fat is a little squishy, this too I hope will improve. I still will be going for a thigh/arm lift they have no hope at this point.

    Wondering About Body Parts Sagging.

Yes, I do feel they are working for me and plan on using them throughout the weight loss. I refuse to have plastic surgery done once I reach my goal so the It Works products, along with exercise, will be the only things I have to help with this saggy process. My age and genetic makeup are not in my favor, plus the fact that I've been obese for more than half my life, let me know that I will not have a rock hard bod when all is said and done but I'm okay with that.
