Milk issues anyone? I'm a RnYer.
Diva Taunia replied to bellalulu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost nine years out and I have an odd relationship with dairy products. Things I don't do well with: Regular Milk Ice Cream Frozen Yogurt (Gives me the shakes, almost like a pre-dumping syndrome type of situation.) Lactaid is better, but not great. I tend to avoid these things all-together. Things I do just fine with: Cottage cheese Greek yogurt (love!) Regular cheeses (double love!) I just make sure I get enough Calcium in my diet and with my supplements. I thought my life would be over without ice cream, but I actually don't even really miss it. I miss Cereal and milk more than I miss ice cream! -
I am going on a business trip to London for 8 weeks and leave tonight. I'm 10 weeks post-op. I plan to bring my GENEPRO with me but assume I can get things like Greek yogurt as easily as here? I will be in an apartment with a full kitchen so am confident I will stay on track but am looking for some reassurance that my whole world won't be turned upside down by not being able to find the staples I have relied on so far. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have been having the same issue. Most days, I eat several very small meals. At first, I was only able to eat 4 or 5 bites, but as I progress (I am almost 6 wks out) the amount I can eat increases. Don't panic and just try to make up the difference with Protein shakes. If they get hard to drink, try mixing them with, pudding, yogurt, coffee (decaf if your plan does not condone it), etc. or get unflavored protein and mix into warm broth or other Soups. I think this is pretty normal and part of the process. Good luck!

What is the reason you're not eating, appetite, discomfort, fear.... Have you tried greek yogurt which has protein, or greek yogurt smoothie. Flavored Ricotta cheese. Sorry I'm not being much help.

Do you count carbs?
spunkyheather replied to spunkyheather's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He didn't tell me anything about carbs at all. He just focused on Protein. But yet at my early stages, I could have yogurt and creamed Soups, they have carbs. My net carbs are very low. I was wondering if thats the norm. Thanks so much for your info! -

At 4 weeks post-op I was on soft foods, so in addition to rote in shakes I ate cottage cheese, geek yogurt, turkey, tuna, salmon, protein Soup, etc. -
Chicken, fish, eggs, beans, cheese, nuts, cottage cheese, yogurt, veggies, protein shakes, beef... Look for high protein low carb. I don't think you have had a slow loss but it's not healthy to remain at such low calories (and assuming low protein).

Clammy and dizzy 3 weeks post op
Browneyedgirl41 replied to Browneyedgirl41's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My original thought was that it was the sugar in the yogurt. It could have been caused by a few different factors, or a combo. This is all such a new experience. -

10 months post-op, need help with diet
Bufflehead replied to TobysMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At ten months, I was still in weight loss mode and a typical day might look like: Breakfast: 2 oz spicy turkey sausage + 1 oz refried Beans Lunch: 2 oz chopped chicken breast + 1 oz chopped green veggies + 1/2 T. salad dressing Dinner: 2 oz tuna salad + 1 shirred egg Another day might be: Breakfast: 2.5 ounces Greek yogurt with 1/2 ounce almond butter stirred in Lunch: 1/2 turkey spinach feta burger patty Dinner: 2 oz lamb chop, 1 oz oven roasted broccoli And another day: Breakfast: 3 oz sirloin steak rolled with dabs of mustard inside romaine lettuce leaves Lunch: 1/2 can sardines + 1 oz chopped grilled asparagus Dinner: 1 egg + 1 egg white scrambled with curry sauce & 1 T. cheddar cheese Snacks on all days: Protein shakes only My basic rules were: 3 meals per day of 3 ounces per meal (at a year out I went up to 4-5 ounces per meal), no snacks other than Protein Shakes At least 2 oz of each meal must be high protein food (meat, fish, eggs, beans) No grains, starchy veggies, sweets, tropical fruits, or liquid calories other than protein shakes I leaned heavily -- and still do -- on frozen and prepared food from Trader Joe's and my local food coop. -
Throwing up bile after each meal
RJ'S/beginning replied to jurisjitsu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually it is very normal. Try just snacking a little bit at a time. Trust me if you had a leak there would be a lot more then just bile coming up. You would have a temp. And feeling quite dizzy and sick just to say a bit. Keep the Protein going in yogurt and Protein drinks for now. when you start to feel your heart beat under the food stop eating. It will ease up with time. Look for high protein and low fat foods. There are so many choices out now. -
Clammy and dizzy 3 weeks post op
Browneyedgirl41 replied to Browneyedgirl41's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm supposed to get at least 48 ounces. Not sure if I got all that in, but I must be close. I'm still on liquids (puréed Soup, Protein shakes, drinks of yogurt, sugar free Popsicles). Kind of wondering if the sugar in the yogurt was too much for me. ??? From what I have learned sometimes post op, our bodies don't handle sugar as well as before. The good news is that it was short lived and I feel better now, but I just felt overall yucky when it was happening. I was dripping in a cold, clammy sweat. It sucked! Thanks for replying. I appreciate your concern/caring! -
I feel the same way. It is so weird. The only thing i really enjoy is Water. I've always been a water drinker so that's not any different. I did just have some plain ff Greek yogurt with a tbs of PB2 and that was Ok. I just don't know how to get the calories in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I did really well today with my eating, or so I thought- Protein shake, Soup, some yogurt, some hot tea, frankly Water (not all at the same time of course). At around 6 pm I sat down to help/supervise my 3rd grader with his homework. We needed to go over spelling and vocab words, things like that. I developed a headache/migraine and took generic sumatriptan to get rid of it. I felt clammy and kind or disoriented and irritable. I had eaten at about 4pm and now at nearly 7pm, am not hungry at all but I will have some "dinner" anyway soon. I googled symptoms and it sounds like maybe some hypoglycemia. Not sure. My stomach does not hurt at all. No nausea or diahrrea- just the clammy and kind of dizzy feeling. Anyone else have experience with this? Blah.

Puréed Food Stage
lizardqueen replied to leese1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would also recommend 1% cottage cheese and plain Greek yogurt. I add a teaspoon of Polaner's no sugar added jelly. It comes in a few flavors, adds sweetness to cottage cheese or plain Greek yogurt with very little calories and carbs. I also have tuna salad made with low fat mayonnaise and egg salad as well. Polly-O cheese sticks are great too and no carbs. Just chew them well. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Ricotta Bake (google it - Bariatric ricotta bake) No sugar added applesauce Cottage cheese Scrambled eggs Greek Yogurt Real Fruit and vegetable smoothies Tuna (From a can -- it's typically chopped small enough for puree stage) pureed Veggies (steam them first...then they're easy to puree) Refried Beans oatmeal Sweet Potato (mashed) Mashed Cauliflower There's a lot more but that's off the top of my head remembering what I ate at that stage. You can look on this forum and find many more recipes by stage that will be helpful also. Just make sure you meet your liquid and Protein goals every day!! Best of luck!

QueenOfTheTamazons replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try it in yogurt! !! Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App I like it in noosa yogurt. I had a full scoop in the pumpkin flavor (42g - i did add an addition tbs of pumpkin i had on hand) yesterday and half in the key lime today (27g). I think half a scoop in yogurt is a good goal. With a full scoop i can taste the protein a bit. No horrible but not just yogurt. Brand names? -

How does the sleeve help you to change habits ?
Candygyrl replied to lowbmi65's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is up to you. The sleeve is a tool but the choice of what you will put in your mouth is yours. Were we all perfect no. You have to make up in your mind that you want to live a healthier life period. Will you still be able to have a piece of chocolate from time to time yes eventually-- but hopefully you willing to find your way to chocolate in other ways. A chocolate Protein shake or Protein Bar, a piece of 70% Cacao dark chocolate, chocolate flavored greek yogurt. I felt the same about bread and since surgery I have not had a piece of bread nor do I want to. Does that mean I never will NO, its just right now it does not have any nutritional value to me and I would much rather focus on eating things that give me what I need. My plan allows me at this stage to have bread but in limited amounts. My continued weight loss helps drive it home that I don't really need it. When the time is right (maybe thanksgiving) I will have a 1 inch slice of cheesecake or chocolate cake I will savor and enjoy it, and move on with my life and If I think that might be a trigger food for me I'll steer clear. I never had a issue with sweets but carbs (bread of any kind) is my weakness, So I try not to eat things that I feel might trigger my cravings or desire for these foods like crackers, biscuits, croissants, English muffins and things like that. The sleeve definitely helps with reducing hunger in turn helping you to make healthier choices but some people still complain of having been hungry or dealing with head hunger which is where your willpower to be successful and following your surgeons guidelines is essential. Good Luck to you!
