    September surgery buddies!!

Those are some amazing ideas! Some I haven't even heard of so I'm looking forward to looking them up. I am such a boring basic cook and just get stuck in a rut, so these ideas will help a ton! Thank you so much! I did get some shrimp to make shrimp cocktail with sugar free cocktail sauce and I bought button mushrooms I can add to everything lol but also going to try adding low fat cheese and broil them to make stuffed mushrooms. Those were my ideas for the week lol.

    SO SCARED

I lost very little hair. I barely noticed it, let alone anyone else. a lot of pre-ops and post-ops worry incessantly about hair loss (and loose skin, too). I was one of them. But i think I can speak on behalf of most - if not all - of us who are more than a year out. Hair loss is but a blip on the screen - a minor inconvenience - if we're even affected by it much at all. I'm pretty sure all of us would take the temporary hair loss any day of the week over being morbidly obese again ANY DAY!!

    Blood Pressure down

I went through a spell of having low blood pressure and the doctor told me that there is no minimum low blood pressure, if you're asymptomatic. There's a "normal" range, but if you're not having symptoms, then there is no dangerous low level. I had surgery several years ago. Every time I laid down, my BP would drop to 80/40, or something like that, and it would make the alarm go off. The nurse kept rushing in, but I was just fine. After 3 or 4 times of reducing the alarm threshold, she finally just turned it off. LOL! So, as long as you feel fine, you're good.

Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.

Maybe chew gum? I've been an ex-smoker, for years and I've got quite the gum habit. I've been told that once I'm 6 weeks out, I can have gum again.

    1 year post-sleeve -- no regrets!

Wow that’s amazing! You look great! I’m one year out post sleeve on the 11 october 22 I’ve lost 94lbs and have only lost a pound a month for the last 3 months or so, I want to lose more though so I’m not accepting this is it. I know I won’t be in the normal range ever but to be out of the obese range will be enough for me. I’d like to lose another 30lbs fingers crossed. I’m grateful for my restriction, I do eat bad things occasionally but just a bite of my husbands not the whole thing that way I’m not restricting myself completely. I walk 5 /6 days a week in the evenings, 5/7 miles. I can eat more than the start now but still only a child’s plate size and I don’t eat all of that if that makes sense. I do get frustrated that o don’t see losses that often now but even if I maintain I am grateful.
  6. 1. You can get a sleeve if you want to, but it's not necessary. I've had my left arm amputated twice before and have been able to live a normal life without any problems. I don't think it's necessary to have a sleeve. If you do choose to have a sleeve, make sure you're getting one that fits properly. There are some sleeves out there that are way too big and cause a lot of pain. Also, make sure you're having it done by someone who knows what they're doing. 2. You'll need to learn how to use prosthetics. You'll need to learn how your prosthetic works and how to care for it. Make sure you know how to clean it, oil it, and adjust it. You'll also need to learn how to put it on and take it off. 3. You'll need to find a good prosthetist. Make sure you find a good prosthetists who specializes in amputees. Most people who have a limb removed end up going to a doctor who does general orthopedics. These doctors aren't trained to work with prosthetics. A good prosthetist should be able to help you figure out what size socket you need and where to place it. 4. You'll need to buy new clothes. If you decide to go ahead with a sleeve, you'll probably need to buy new clothes since you won't be able to wear your old ones anymore. 5. You'll need to get fitted for a new prosthesis. This means finding a prosthetist who specializes in amputee prosthetics. Once you find him/her, make sure you tell them about your situation and ask them questions about your options. 6. You'll need to start taking medication again. When you have a sleeve, you'll need to start taking medications again. Your doctor may prescribe you different types of drugs depending on what kind of amputation you had. 7. You'll need to deal with depression. Depression is something that many people struggle with after losing a limb. Make sure you talk to your doctor about ways to combat this problem.

    Smelly farts

Lol! Wet or liquid farts. Yep some do experience them. My friend’s surgeon suggested disposable underwear for the first week or so until everything settled. She told me it was the best advice. I think the smell, diarrhoea & wet farts are from all the blood, debris & stomach acid from the surgery working there way out of your body. That first hideous & very sudden diarrhoea I had in hospital was very dark & smelly. Wish I had the disposable knickers that day. 😁
  8. Hey! I'm getting sick of my usual and looking for some new meal idea and snacks. I'm dealing a lot with craving carbohydrates and salt. I'd like to only eat whole foods and complex carbohydrates if I decide to eat them but stick mostly to protein and veggies. I'm a vegetarian but feel free to share with my your meaty meals because I can always modify them and make them veg with tofu and other plant based proteins. I usually eat eggs or a protein shake for breakfast, salads, cheese, crackers and soy products like tofu or Tempeh for dinners and lunch. I ate a lot of chips and barely drank any water this week because of my environment (which I'm about to leave thank god) but in general dont feel that great after eating things like that. I tried having oatmeal for breakfast the other day and found it really gross. I don't like sweet things or fruit but I feel like eating a half serving of fruit will help manage my carbohydrate cravings. And when I say carbs I mean like breads and chips. So i'm curious if you want to just drop your typical meal plan in the replies. I'd love to steal some ideas! I'm eating about 1200-1300 calories a day at the moment and aim for 60 grams of protein. A pretty good day for me looks like a protein shake, a snack, and a meal. Hbu? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Smelly farts

Yes I admit my farts are definitely different smelling. Extra stinky and I had diarrhea for the first week. I stopped with the senokot laxative I was prescribed at night. I helped solidify my poops. Remember your gut and intestines are in a changing faze. It will get better. If you have extreme pain then please call your dietitian and let them know or call your doctor. Wishing good health on your weight-loss journey. Remember we are here for you!

    4 weeks post op

One of my friends who had sleeve surgery years ago had the same symptoms( she's here and read with me because I was showing her this app lol) but she had that issue about 2 months after her surgery and they took out her gallbladder and she said with in 2 weeks she felt 100x better, so she hopes it gos as well for you.... also her doc prescribed her a 3 day neasua patch (4pk) that she used to help her with her intake until her gallbladder surgery so maybe ask about that to help, and do not be afraid to ask for IV fluids to help, they can give you 2 bags at a time without having to worry about electrolyte dilution Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Now looking at sugery in November and was wondering about the 1st 2 weeks of post-op fluid diet. Was it easier to sip room-temp liquids, warm, cold, or cool? Did the fluid temp affect how your recovering pouch reacted? Could you sip more of one temp over another? Did the warmed fluids like broth fill you up faster? Did you you include milk in your protein shakes or just go with water? Thanks in advance!
  13. I’m 4 weeks post op and I have been nauseous since I had my surgery. It’s too the point I can’t eat or drink. Water makes me the most nauseous with or without crystal light. It feels like the water gets stuck. My surgeon did an ultrasound last week and said I need my gallbladder removed. I’m hoping this fixes the nausea. Anyone else had these symptoms ?

    Weight loss goals

Mine were much like yours. I wanted to fit in a bath tub. With my spouse; There were a couple other things to do with my spouse, but I won't go into detail. Stop asking ; I wanted to be able to ride the rides; Rode every coaster in Orlando, had a blast; I wanted to be able to sit anywhere worry free; This is amazing when I realize what I am doing. Kayaking, which I've done on vacation several times now; Horseback riding, which is something my spouse wanted to do together, which we have done several times; Running, just a 30 minute run. I did 5 marathons and got to run across the Golden Gate bridge; I wanted rolling over in bed not to be a huge 3 stage production that required planning and cleverly arranged ropes and pullies, or at least it seemed that way. Not even a thought now; I wanted to be able to go out in public and be anonymous, People used to run into things staring at me. Crowds of people would naturally part to get out of my way. Now I have to wade through crowds like everyone else. No one pays be any special attention anymore. The clothes thing has been amazing. I bought a lot of stuff just because I could. I had quite a list of 50 things I wanted to do after surgery. about 15-20 were related to weight and clothing size milestones, the rest were life things like the above. There were a couple things I realized I wasn't actually interested in doing when I got to the appropriate weight. Go figure. All these years later a lot of things are so normal for so long that I don't think about them. Occasionally, out of the blue, I realize I'm doing something that was once impossible. It's still cool. Good luck, Tek
  15. I also work at a (mostly) desk job. The week after surgery, I returned to work for about 20-25 hours from home. Most days weren't too bad, but I did find myself getting very tired early afternoon, and having to call it a day. As the weeks went on and my strength returned, so did my endurance. By the third-week post-op, I returned to the office full time.
  16. Ok guys I swore to share the good the bad and the ugly so here goes… I have not been active in here much lately because I have been absolutely exhausted with work. I left work early to visit an iv bar yesterday! If you are weak and exhausted from lack of vitamins just go do it trust me!!! It makes a huge difference! On top of that I have never been regular with the potty and that has gotten worse since surgery. So tonight I took it upon myself to take something to help out in that area. For the love of all things holy if you feel the need to go this route DO NOT TAKE THE DOSE RECOMMENDED ON THE BOX!!!! There are approximately 10 steps between my bed and my bathroom if in a hurry and I promise you I made it about 3 of those steps… I have managed to clean myself out and also managed to have the rest of the medication my stomach couldn’t handle come out the top side. So now I am laying in my bed contemplating my life choices and exactly how I might go about recovering from this horrific night… it is well past my bed time and I am terrified to go to sleep!!! Send prayers for my dumb self please!!!

    September surgery buddies!!

For everyone on real food, how’s it going? I just started this week and it’s been interesting. I still find myself gravitating to soft foods but I definitely am careful about speed. I ate breakfast too fast the other day and I had a vomit moment before taking my daughter to school. The amount of food actually eaten is a ridiculously small amount - it’s so bizarre! My plan is not specific at all on what to eat so it’s a lot of trial and error….what are some of your meals like?

    Fitness watch.

I have a Fitbit charge 5. It's been reliable with my calories in and out as far as weight loss. Been trying the maintenance program the past month. So far so good. It helps with my sleep patterns and tells me how long I am in each of the sleep stages for the night, week, month. Also my heart rate variability, skin temperature...Etc. I like the ecg scan too. The battery lasts a week or more. I also like that I can set goals for steps or whatever. I don't have any other experience with any other watches but I am very happy with this one.

Back to work after one week??

I don't think I could have done it. I'm a little over 2 weeks out and I went back to work part time the last 2 days. I found it very taxing. It partly how tired I feel, but maybe even more so that I'm mentally drained. I work from home, but have a mentally challenging job, so I have to have a clear head. Now that I'm actually starting real food, it's getting better every day. The other challenge early on was just how much of my energy and thought went in to keeping up with my liquid and protein intake. I'm afraid that if I was trying to work as well, I likely would have ended up dehydrated or worse.

    Food Before and After Photos

Made a pot roast from part of that brisket I bought a couple weeks ago (Also broke it down into 5.5lbs of ground beef/ stew meat and a corned beef for next week.). I actually spit out the last piece of roast I was chewing because I felt full. It was also onions and potatoes.
  21. Did anyone go back to work after one week of surgery? Office desk job. How was it with sitting? Was it hard to stay on track with sips and walking? Did you have belching or Nausea?

Tips on what to expect first few weeks

My only real advise for anyone having surgery is to just stick to your plan and TRUST the process. Especially for the first month post op your weight may do weird thing (stall or even go up) but this process does work. Just trust it and the weight will come off.
  23. Desire I feel the same!! Yesterday was 6 weeks, I’m in a stall at 25 pounds and I know I shouldn’t compare but we’re humans and it’s what we do. I am following to a T as well and I’m seeing others at 6 weeks or less eating sooo much more or such different things than what I’m eating, nearly same starting weight, and losing much more. Right now I can’t have any fruits, veggies, carbs, etc. I keep hearing to eat more calories but I guess diet culture has taught me against that for so many years it’s a hard concept. I’m doubting myself a lot which I know I should be proud of 25 pounds but I get in my own head. You’re not alone, and now either am I and there’s some comfort in that so thank you!

    October 2022 surgery support

Congratulations to all of us October surgery buddies!!! 🥳🎉 I just want to encourage everyone that you will all do just fine! It is a mind thing so think positive throughout the pre-op phase and your post-op phase should be just fine. I am on day 9/21 of my liquid diet and will be getting the DS on October 19th. I am overly excited to continue my journey & so far day 3 & 6 were the days I craved the most. I keep a journal of how I feel on each day & if there has been any changes to my body. When I do get cravings I tend to drink a bottle of water first to see if that helps & if it doesn’t I grab a protein shake or my low sodium chicken broth & pretend I’m eating whatever I was craving LOL
  25. Hi! Excited...nervous....scared. I'm sure all the normal emotions pre surgery. Looking for advice on what to expect in hospital immediately after surgery and the weeks after. Any "wish someone had told me this" type of advice???
