  1. I had my pre-op testing today!!! Everything went great!!! GO ME!! Should be all set for surgery for Thursday!! I was told the testing would take 3-4 hours, but it went by really fast and I was only there about 1 1/2 hours. Here's the rundown incase anyone was interested. Arrived at 9:45 Checked in and paid my deductible first off. Then I was sent to the testing area and was seen very quickly by a nurse that weighed me. Down 15 lbs since my pre-op diet!! GOOO MEEE!!! Then she took my blood pressure 128/76. Next she asked all the basic questions...do you drink, do drugs, have you had any previous surgeries....blah..blah..blah. Then I was asked to pee in a cup. Yippee, so far so good!!! Got back to the room and she stuck a long Q-tip up my nostrils to check for MRSA. It made my nose itch, but didn't hurt at all. Next was the not so fun part. She just comes out and says, "Ok, please remove your shirt and lay on the bed." WHAT??? Noone told be about this!!!! Get half naked infront of a sweet innocent Granny!!!?? I was strong.... I sucked it up and removed my shirt!!! (Thinking why wasn't I told about this part. lol) She then started placing little sticky things all over me..10 total. Then she hooked up the EKG machine to those. Let it run for not even a minute and that was it. She removed the sticky stuff and I QUICKLY put my shirt back on!!! Next phase was X-rays. I went back to the main waiting area until they called me back. Only took maybe 10 minutes. Greeted by a skinny little nurse that asked me to remove my shirt AND bra!!!! WHAT?? AGAIN??? AND THIS TIME YOU WANT MORE??? Geezzzz, yet again I was forced to unrobe myself and place a gown on. (She did let me put my shirt back on under the robe, but no bra) I was then told to stand facing the chest x-ray machine and lean forward onto it a bit. Hold breath..click...click...next position. Turn to your left and hold onto this bar (over my head) and hold your breath...click ...click....DONE!! Again I QUICKLY got dressed and went back to the testing area to await the dietician. She went over all the basics, which I already knew and said that was it. I was free to go!! Left at 11:15! That's all there was to it! Nothing big. Now I'm officially ready for surgery on Thursday!! Yippiee!!!

  4. drinks can be a little tricky post op. The biggest thing is to stay away from any caloric drinks. You want your nutrition to come from good food and you only have so much room in the budget. I will say that figuring out what works best for you can be tricky. I only drink room temp Water and hot tea. The reason for the room temp thing is because anything icy cold actually causes my pouch to seize. I know, that sounds horrible but it's simply uncomfortable. This is really at its worst in the am, I could probably tolerate icy cold later in the day but I simply have learned over 19 months to drink my water that way. I am highly sensitive to any artificial sweeteners, they cause severe migraines so that is why I stick to water. Hot tea is also very soothing. Occasionally I will have my chocolate chai tea with hot milk as a treat but that adds carbs so I budget for it. There is 0 sugar in it but the milk adds carbs. I promise you will figure out what works for you and you will be fine with it.

    Post Op Hell

You are likely dehydrated already, are you peeing darker urine or peeing much at all? Call the bariatric team asap, they can get another physician to call in a scrip for meds. Try lukewarm tea w a little ginger root. Try diluted broths, sip a teaspoon, then wait 5-10 minutes, try another. Stand up to sip.

    Day 2 post-op

Hey guys I just had my gastric sleeve done on the 21/10 and I'm able to walk around, go toilet, etc. I barely had any pain (around 2/10 max). The nurses say I need to drink at least 1 litre of water. They also gave me some soup and yoghurt, which was fine for me to eat. However it only hurts when I'm drinking water. I can keep it down but there's just slight pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, can anyone give me any tips/advice on what to expect when I go home? Thanks
  7. You might try gargling with salt water before taking any cold meds, Zicam or anything else without checking with your surgeon. Many products will cause you not to be eligible for surgery if taken within 10 days of the surgery. Hope you feel better soon!
  8. I joined Planet Fitness about 1.5 years ago. I did the ten dollar a month basic membership; and there is no cancellation fee fee for my plan. Planet Fitness is more of a beginner's health club. There are a lot of basic machines and treadmills, but NO free style weight lifting. Many franchises do NOT allow weight belts, or exposed midriffs. The regulations are usually clearly posted. As a beginner, I feel very comfortable in my local PF facility. I have read complaints about various other locations, and I suspect the overall rating of a particular PF depends on the local franchise owner, and in some regards, the location. I try and go at least 5 or 6 times a week; for at least a 60 minute visit. That's about 40 cents a day. You can try a trial day membership, or do the 10 dollar a month plan to try it out. If you don't like it, or outgrow it, than switch to a more advanced gym. I feel very comfortable at my local PF... it is kept clean, the equipment is maintained, and I see a lot of older out of shape individuals who are regulars. I don't feel like I am competing with Charles Atlas types. Why would PF want to cancel your membership? And why would you worry if they do? There are other gyms out there. There is usually a reason why someone lost a membership in a PF location.

    Slow (maybe sore?) Loser

most people see the biggest drops during the first month or two after surgery. After that, it does slow down to about 2-3 lbs a week (maybe a bit higher for those with a higher starting BMI). So your rate of loss is pretty normal. I'm not sure where you started, but I was well over 300 lbs. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and then 10-12 lbs a month for the next six months or so. Then it dropped down to about 6-8 lbs a month....and gradually went down from there (by the end, it was like two lbs a month - UGH!). As long as you're trending down, you're good! and to reiterate, yes, your rate of loss is completely normal. Just follow your plan. If you cut back too much from your plan, you risk getting sick or having deficiencies. So I would not worry about "moving the needle faster". Massive weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint, as they say...

Day 2 And I'm So Hungry

IDK about others, but for me I had a few cravings the first 7-10 days then it just went away. Now my biggest problem is remembering to eat. I often miss meals because eating is not something I look forward to anymore. It's become a burden, kinda like fueling the car, or washing it. It needs to be done, but I wish I could pay someone else to do it for me. I've actually gotten to the point where I'd really rather just have meal replacement shakes. Just because I can drink them faster and be done with it.

    Burning Questions

    1. This procedure is relatively new so long-term data is hard to find, but check out the pinned topic "Weight Gained Since Being Sleeved." A lot of long-termers talk about their success on that thread. 2. I'm not super awesome about taking my Vitamins. I take them a couple times a week, when I remember. I spent a lot of money at first trying to find vitamins I liked. I bought a few different B Complex ones until I found ones that didn't smell horrible, and I had to buy different Calcium chews because I bought the wrong kind. I don't even notice it in my budget anymore. 3. I'm 10 months out. No psychological issues so far. Nothing but joy, really. I check myself out in the mirror, a lot. 4. I think I got lucky here too. I love shopping now, but my budget helps keep that in check. I enjoy cooking a lot more now, and making "normal" (protein-rich) recipes instead of the low-cal/low-fat/low-flavor crap I was cooking while dieting. I do drink, but no more often than before, and less volume because I get tipsy faster. Hope this helps.
  12. Lmao! You're not alone. I'm 10 days post op and also very hungry!! What the hell?! I mean after I eat several bites I get full faster but man I would kill to be off liquids and eating real good again. Nothing bad I just want some salmon and veggies!! Just something dear lord!! Haha just had to say that aloud for once.

    Banned 11/25 and ouch

yea, sounds like gas pains in the shoulder. try rocking back and forth, have someone pat your back, or move your upper body around in bed. I was banded 11/23 and had some major gas pains. my theory is because i had a single incision. the gas gets trapped more. the girl next to me had traditional 5 incision and didn't have as much pain. who knows.. but i am now realizing that most of us go through the same feelings after surgery... and i feel like anesthesia plays a major role in it as well..it seemed to mess with my emotion because i also felt like "did i make the right decision?" in some ways i still feel that way.. but because i am dealing with my "head" cravings.. i am not hungry like i used to be, but i definitely miss some things right now. BUT, as i stepped on the scale and saw i was 10 lbs down... i felt great!!! but these emotional feelings i rarely read about on this forum.. or atleast i never caught a thread. all in all, i keep reminding myself of whats to come in the future... stay positive..
  14. Hi everyone! I'm from NJ and have AmeriHeath PPO … my doc said that according to my BMI of 36 and the fact that I have been on Glucophage w/ a diagnosis of PCOS for nearly 10 years, that I am a good candidate for Lap Band. I have met w/ the nutritionalist and have 2 1/2 months to go before I meet the 3 month requirement by AmeriHealth. In that time, I am also scheduled to see the Dietitian two more times, have an upper GI, see a therapist, attend a support group meeting, and meet w/ a cardiologist … all for clearance and validation of attendance. Whew!! LOL! Soooo my question is this … after I go through all of this, can insurance deny me?? I know my BMI and medical condition just inches me over the 'what qualifies you' mark … my fear is that in the end I won't get approved by the insurance, even though the doc gave me the thumbs up. I'd love your feedback on this!!! Thanks!!!!

    scared to eat

As long as you practice the rules you should be fine. Dime sized bites and chew chew chew! I was banded 7/14/10 and I wasn't afraid of eating but I had to learn what I COULD eat. eggs and lettuce and bread and Pasta were all no no's for me... Tried to eat a raw baby carrot on Thanksgiving an dthe pain was indescribale. So I adjusted and stuck with meat and veggies only! It has worked well for me as of today I am 191 down from 273 on surgery day no pre-op diet for me... Good luck on your journey!

    FYI...allergies and hunger

That is awesome you mentioned that!! I was having awful nausea even after a week post op. I went into the doctors concerned about that and something unrelated. At the end of my appt. I asked when I was allowed to go back on my Allegra and my other allergy meds. My PA looked at me and said "Take them and see how you feel tomorrow. I bet your nausea is being caused by post nasal drip." She was totally right. Now, it's been about 10 days and I've been getting hunger pangs and wondering why. I just realized today it's been a few days since I've taken my Allegra!! That's great. First thing in the a.m. I'll be taking it
  18. New to the board, but I'm looking for some experienced folks who can help me out. My surgery date was 11/20, and things have actually been going pretty well until now. Then yesterday, when I stepped on the scale, I'm actually UP almost 2.5 lbs!! How does that happen? After a day of monitoring my intake fastidiously, I'm back down .5 pounds. This is the kind of progress I would expect from a regular "diet", and not after major surgery to enable weight LOSS!! Obviously, I'm a little frustrated and more than a little confused. I realize I probably shouldn't be weighing myself daily, but I'm glad I did so I could see this. Today I am following the menu/schedule to the letter, and I sure hope something happens to the scale tomorrow, or I might cry. Yes, I'm over-dramatizing (but not by much). Thanks for any input, CB

    Boohoo!!!

Ok, so this morning wasnt what I expected....I was expecting to lose another 2 lbs and be at a loss of 13 lbs by this morning for my 1 week anniversary, but alas I gained 1 lb...So here I am at 10 lb loss, I ought to celebrate that 10 lbs cuz without the bad I wouldnt have even lost that...But in hopes of having a good loss for tomorrow I pushed myself this morning and went all the way with my workout...Did my entire 30 minutes on the gazzelle, it wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be...And I am going to push push push that water today...I dont like having a gain, but I know they are expected every once in a while but that doesnt mean that I have to like them...Ok, so lets just see how my plan works for me when I weigh in tomorrow morning, hopefully I will be smiling!!
  20. January 15, 2007 is the big day. Everything finally seems to be coming together. I have my psy eval on Monday 10/23 and have dates for my nutritional and behavior modification class, to meet with my doc and to complete pre-labwork and physical. Now I am just waiting for get these things done. I have had insurance approval since 9/20 and I probably could have scheduled my surgery sooner but mid January is the best time for me to be away from work. I am happy, anxious and nervous. I have never been in the hospital for an overnight stay or been under anethesia. So I am very nervous about that. Any words of wisdom from anyone who has had the same experience with your lap band surgery being the first time that you were under anethesia or just being in the hospital?

    Oh No I'm Really Hungry

I'm 5'6" 64 years old and weight on surgery day was 201. Five weeks post op and I'm only down 10 lbs. I just weighed and am 191. So you should be very happy with you 20 lbs.

Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?

I thought I was losing slow too, till my doctor told me I lost 10 more pounds than my predicted weight loss. He said at this rate I will reach goal weight sooner than expected Sent from my SM-N950F using BariatricPal mobile app

Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?

I am down 118 total since my surgery on May 10. I’ve had zero issues since surgery minus the inability to eat scrambled eggs and lunch meat. Both things make me vomit every time I try them. Outside of that, no issues. I have been working out with weights since mid June when I was cleared to start lifting. I’ve been walking 5+ miles a day for the last few months. I started with half a mile, then a mile and very quickly jumped to 5 miles. Once you get past the first six weeks of walking it becomes so easy. Something I never would have said presurgery where my weight on my joints made small walks a chore. Now instead of adding miles to my walks I add speed. I just walk faster because I don’t have time to walk for hours on end. This past week I added some hills to my walks by doing different more hilly routes.
