    Any July buddies?

Hello! Im scheduled for July 21st! Excited, nervous and scared!! Once I get past this 2 week liquid diet.. 🙄This part stinks!! I wish everyone success and a speedy recovery! Just think of all the new clothes we can buy!! 😍
  2. I’m on day three from having a revision surgery to take out my lapband, fix a hiatal hernia, and have a gastric bypass. I’m doing decently except for when I try to stand up from my bed or my sofa, the big incision on the right middle of my torso hurts like crazy. Burns, stings, sharp pain — more than just “sore” like the other incisions. It takes my breath away. I’m guessing this big incision is where my surgeon took out the port from the lapband and did most of the work, since it’s the biggest and most painful one by far. I don’t remember having one incision be this painful after my two other laparoscopic surgeries (appendectomy and lap band). Anyone else have something like this post surgery where one incision is far, far more painful than the others? If so, how long until the intense pain went away for you?

Day 11 PO and so tired

Yep, the first couple of weeks I was completely exhausted and had to take naps every day. Once I moved to purees and was able to get closer to my protein goal it started to get better. Give yourself lots of grace and hang in there!

    Surgery today

I’m good but I still lower right pain…I guess the incisions are still healing? I’m still not able to bend down fully. My surgery was on June 29. I have started pureed foods/soft foods as that is part of my week 2 plan. I had 2 oz of tilapia yesterday for lunch and dinner and experience any issues. Im just worried about the lower right stomach pain….I don’t know if it’s muscles or incisions but it hurts like crazy when I try to bend down. When will the pain go away? Thanks. Armpit smell?

Yeah, I remember i was pretty stinky (or at least stinkier than normal, lol) for a few weeks in the beginning. If i recall correctly, it came about sometime in the first month, and went away sometime in the third (not 100% sure on that though, its been over 3.5 yrs). The good news though is that it DID go away AND never came back!! Pre-op i wore deodorant every day cuz i was a sweater. After the weight loss my pits are bone dry and no longer stink, yay. I hardly ever use deodorant now. Goof Luck! ❤️

    Lost about revision

I worked with both my PCP and endocrinologist when looking into bariatrics. They were both onboard and worked together for my referral. I agree not to worry about looking like you are doctor shopping and think it’s important to understand why the other dr said no. If it’s something they don’t do - find one who does, if it’s a specific reason it could help when looking for a different practice who might be able to offer a different approach who has experience with whatever that issue is. I went through a different program at first… had my surgery date scheduled and canceled 2 weeks before my surgery because I wasn’t comfortable with the program. They didn’t seem to be listening to me, addressing my concerns - it seemed more like they were only worried about pushing me through their program and checking off the insurance boxes. I was worried about how my leaving that program to find another would look going into a new program - but i was open and honest with them explaining why I didn’t think the other program was a right fit and my situation … they were very supportive and reassuring at the new program every step of the way. Having my PCP and Endocrinologist work with me through this has been really helpful… they were both a sounding board for my concerns with my first program and helpful in getting the ball rolling when selecting a new program to work with. Good luck with everything and hope you feel better soon. Let us know how things are going.

    Stop loosing WAY too early

Same! Surgery on June 6th. Lost 32lbs first two weeks. Stalled every since. I'm just still plugging away following the plan. I admit I felt a little depressed about it this morning, but I know it has to start moving again at some point when I'm only eating 600 calories Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: It's been a while since I've been on and posted so I figured I'd so so quick. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed for me!!! Still stuck at 235-ish (and have been since the end of last Oct) and can't seem to lose anymore no matter what the hell I do!! I did start Rybelsus a few months ago and made it through a month of the 3mg dose and a month through the 7mg does. Then, when my doc put me on the final dose of 14mg a few weeks ago, my insurance suddenly decided it was no longer gonna cover it!! Not sure why the allowed the other doses/months and not the new one. Doc and I are trying to appeal it (cause it costs about $1300 out of pocket a month without insurance and has no generic). Their one reason was that I was NOT a uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetic. They also said I needed to be in a weigh loss program or seeing a weight loss doctor in order to have it approved for weight loss reasons. I asked my family doc if my surgeon qualifies as that and so he sent him a messaged asking the same thing. Just wondering if it is a matter of the surgeon prescribing it vs. my family doc. Who knows. Anyway, just waiting on hearing back about that. Not even sure that will help me either. Don't know what else to do and just trying to accept the fact that I most likely will be at this weight forever. Which SUCKS!!! I wanted to get down to at least 180. I'm swimming damn near 4 hours every day or walking for at least an hour and of course depending on who, doc wise, I speak to they each have something different to say. Walk less, walk more, walk slow, walk fast, do weights, don't do weights......UUUUUgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! I've tried it all. Upped water, lowered water, ate more protein, ate less protein, ate more food, ate less food, just don't know what else to do so pretty much just been living my life doing whatever. Haven't been logging my food for months but not doing anything really different food wise than I was when I was logging. Just wondered if being so strict and regimented was maybe causing the stall so I stopped but I guess that wasn't the case either. Anyway, that's that.
  14. I do love me some meal prep! Things I’ve learned- individual Greek yogurts while more expensive are easier for “no spoon” days. I usually add homemade granola or a 100 calorie pack of nuts and fruit for a quick protein packed meal. cooking a protein bland for the first cook makes customized meals easier later. A beef roast in beef broth can later be made into shredded beef for tacos, BBQ beef, or korean beef bowls. I love soup! I’ll usually make a batch on my meal prep days and either put it in the fridge or freeze it. Scrambled eggs (so they’re still glossy and not rubbery- most people overcook scrambled eggs) are great to put into meal prep containers with a couple sausage links or patties and microwaved later in the week. Hard boiled eggs are another great option. Just peel and store in the fridge for up to a week. They’re good as egg salad or on salads. Use a lettuce knife- it’s a special knife made of nylon with serrated edges that cuts lettuce so it doesn’t oxidize. This keeps lettuce longer over the week after you prep it so it doesn’t get brown and yucky.

    Pills

I was told I could swallow everything the size of pencil eraser (and smaller) as soon as I got home from the hospital. That was all except two pills. I had to wait about three weeks before I could tackle those - fortunately, they were ones I was told would be safe to wait on. So I never had to crush anything.

    Pills

It sounds like you did but just in case for you or for others reading this, make sure to check with the pharmacy before opening or crushing anything. With some medications this can actually be harmful. Now to answer your question. I did not have anything as big as a capsule but I did have three pills I needed to take and I took them the next day after surgery (as in swallows them whole) without any issues. Some people do have more swelling though and pills can be hard for a few days. If so, most can be opened or crushed and taken with a bit of applesauce.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Yay! I had my 2-week post op today too. Doctor and Nutritionist were both happy with my progress (30 lbs down including pre-op) and moved me to soft foods for two weeks.
  18. I was taken off one of my psychiatric meds by my family doctor - she felt i didn't need it. I went into a downward spiral for 6 weeks - it was awful, awful, awful. When i finally told my psychiatrist, she immediately admitted me into their hospital and put me back on my original meds. I was so much better within 36 hours. She said that my family dr should never have taken me off that particular med. I was in a serotonin withdrawal. So, i hope you are able to get the meds figured out. I think much of what you are feeling is due to your lack of medication. Good luck & sending lots of love to you
  19. Two weeks - July 21st … I’m so excited! I’ll meet with the surgeon, decide on the best surgery (I have reflux which is currently under control with medication so I’m leaning toward RNY to avoid that getting worse … but want to go over my other medical issues with her and see what she recommends) and pray we can schedule a time that allows me to have the surgery and heal some before school starts. I did ask to be put on a cancelation list just incase an earlier time opens up - but she only has clinics on Thursday so it’s not likely to be earlier. My pre-op diet is 8 days so the earliest it can be scheduled is July 28th. I highly doubt that her schedule will allow for that, so we are just hoping that we can get scheduled before Aug 12, so hubby won’t need to take any time off work. Anyone have any “I wish I had asked that” questions that you didn’t know to ask or think about when you met with the surgeon? I have my list of questions That we have started about medication and my medical concerns - but from anyone who’s been there before … is there something that you recommend asking that you either didn’t know to ask or didn’t think to ask? Either about the recovery - surgery or anything?

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Just had my two week post-op appointment. Doctor is very happy with everything. I've now been cleared for soft foods - yaaaaaaayyy! I thought I'd be on soft foods for 1-2 months, but doctor said do it for 2 weeks then I can move on to the final rest-of-my-life stage. Very happy with how things are going.

    Final Weigh-in

Had my final weigh-in today, lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks. (My only requirement was to not gain weight from the initial weigh in). That brings me to 50 pounds down since June 2021. I’m happy about that (and eager for that progress to continue). Appointment went well, however I had a slight disappointment. I was told if I had everything done by this appointment I would schedule with the surgeon, for their consult, when I check out. When I checked out I was told the coordinator hadn’t reviewed my final test from July 1st yet. Once she does that - THEN they will call to schedule with me. I’m trying to take a deep breath and be patient, but it’s hard. This is a big difference from last year when I was going through another program and I canceled my surgery two weeks before it was scheduled (I was not confident in the team or program I was dealing with). It’s a little frustrating that if I had stayed with that original program - I’d be 5 months post op by now… but then again, both my husband and I were not confident I would have the support and guidance needed to be successful in the other program. So for now I’ll try to be patient for that next phone call to come in.

    Iced Coffee

I use a cold brew concentrate, a little fat free half and half, and a splash of sugar free syrup (Torani, Jordan's, etc.). I make my hot coffee the same way. I get the syrups at Home Goods or TJMaxx, as they tend to be cheapest there, but you can also find them in grocery stores and online. My plan restricted caffeine until 2 weeks post-op, which is the only time in my life I've ever drank decaf.
  24. I had my band removed in 6/21 but didn’t have that experience. Are you still feeling that or has it gone away? I know it’s been weeks since you posted. I hope you’re doing better. When is you VSG scheduled for?
  25. Thank you everyone. Just feeling a little down and defeated, I guess. I know I'll get through it because I have to in order to better my life and hopefully get rid of this awful Diabetes and excessive insulin (two of three main goals behind doing this, the other of course is losing weight). Also, I tried to update my profile to include all the stuff you all have under your names like weight, surgery date, etc, and I couldn't figure out where to do it. I'll check some of the help boards now.
